The decor inside is modern and nice. The service was prompt but kinda distracted. We ordered coffee and the order was messed up by assuming everyone wanted milk in their coffee. I went to Rebel Food & Drink a little while back to pick up a take out pizza!! While I was waiting, I had the opportunity to look around and enjoy the interior design, which was very creative and unique (on one of the walls, it is said: Serving Good Food All Day Every Day (the OO of food are actually the wheels of a bicycle), the music was good, there were high table and normal tables, booths. The restaurant did seem to attract a variety of customers as well. It did have the kind of ambiance for all kinds of people, it is the kind of place to go for a drink after work with friends or family. But you can also go there for foods!! And of course, there is take out. The food menu is quite diversified: you can get finger foods, pub-like foods, pasta and pizza, fish and meat, soups and salads. My wife and I took out pizzas on a couple of occasions: cheese and then pepperoni, and wow, them pizzas are gooooood. And if you have space, Rebel has a few dessert items. Order: Without a cause pizza: We had the pepperoni and sausage pizzas before but, this pizza had some kind of bitterness in it. Pizzas is meant to be tasty i believe. Finally got around to having lunch here over the weekend with a friend. I love this area of the city so much! The most attractive thing to us that day was definitely the patio. If you want to go sit on a cute patio in the Crestwood area please go check this out. We sat along the edge and had a good view of the street to people watch and enjoy. The most random part about this area is the IGA next door... talk about a blast from the past. We ordered the avocado hummus to start and it was really delicious. They give you a lime which I think is a nice touch because it's actually a lot sweeter than I expected it to be, so the sourness of the lime is a good balance. I liked the toast and veggies that it came with too. For my food I had the Blueberry and Brie sandwich because if you see that on the menu you must eat it. It had green apples in it as well and I definitely was a fan. It was sticky and messy and I needed to shove it in my face immediately upon sight. It's actually quite big as well so be prepared. We also tried the Gnocchi which was very good. My friend also had wings which he liked. So we really went ham on the food and enjoyed every bite. My only tiny tiny qualm is how slow the service was. I think we waited an hour for our appetizers, and then another hour after for our mains. I think we were there for about 2.5 hours total which is wild to me since it wasn't really that busy. That being said..I'll have to point out that our food took a very long time to make it to the table...even the appetizer (chips and dip) took a lot longer than it should have. Since opening, this has become one of our favourite places - we have gone for work lunches, happy hours, late nights, brunches, celebrations....it's definitely one of the best options in the west end and we are here probably once a week or two. I met up with a friend to catch up over brunch on a Saturday morning. My friend had called to make a reservation for us, but was told it was walk in only, but it was no problem as it was was pretty quiet at opening. Most people probably prefer to sleep in Saturday mornings :) Rebel has a hipsteresque kind of vibe to it. There was a nice range of items to choose from on the menu, including a few vegetarian and gluten free items, as well. I settled on the Vegetarian Benny and my friend ordered the Badass Scrambler! On this particular occasion, I was feeling like something lighter for brunch, so I opted for a non-meat option on the menu and settled on the vegetarian benny. The vegetarian benny came with a bowl of tater tots on the side and the portion was quite generous! I loved the tater tots! Normally, I'm not one for hashbrowns, but the tater tots were cook to just the right amount of crisp! They weren't overly seasoned or salty, but that was fine with me, as you can always easily add more salt, but if something is overly salty, it's not as easily remedied. Upon ordering, I was asked how I would like my egg cooked: soft, medium, or hard and was spot on to my preference! Just the right amount of yolk ooziness! I really liked that the english muffin was toasted so there was a slight crisp, but not so much that it was crusty and hard! The Badass Scrambler my friend ordered also was a decent sized portion. It was scrambled eggs served on a bed of tater tots. We both left with leftovers for lunch or the next days breakfast, so it felt like pretty decent value. The overall atmosphere was casual and quiet; there were plenty of tables and booth, making this a nice place to catch up with girlfriends or go for an early morning date! Ended up here last month for a work lunch. To be honest I had never heard of it, I think it's in the same spot that Piccolino's (sp?) used to be. Renovated, bright, busy and a tad cramped. Went here with a girlfriend this summer. The restaurant décor was unmemorable. Can't say anything about it except lots of windows made it light and airy. Our server was friendly and efficient. We were there during happy hour so we decided to split a bunch of things- the prawns and peaches, tuna tower, the honey haloumi, and the Rebel without a cause pizza. Everything came out promptly. My favourite was the honey haloumi, rich haloumi cheese pan fried with citrus honey and chimichurri. accompanied with bread, there is a great balance of flavours and textures. I would defiantly order this again. My friend's favourite was the prawns and peaches. It is a lighter version of what you can find in other restaurants. I happen to like this combination but it isn't for everyone. The tuna tower was fresh, but the flavours were not outstanding. The pizza was filling and cooked properly. Had a really delicious and enjoyable supper here. Everyone was very friendly and helpful! Very cool, lively atmosphere. If you're looking for a quiet place for a meal this might not be the place for you. Although we were only there the once and it was during the Eskimos/Stampeders Labour Day rematch. It wasn't bothersome, but just not quiet The drinks were okay, my strawberry lime drop was delicious, the dragon's breath mojito and Hartley's lemonade were good, but a bit underwhelming. We had the chips and dip to start and it was really effing good!! For entrees my boyfriend had the short ribs. He calls himself a rib connoisseur and usually will get them if they are on a menu so I am always worried they won't live up to his standards, but he loved them and all the sides that came with. I snuck some forkfuls and everything was delicious! I had the Rebel rigatoni which was so yummy, like lick-the-plate-clean yummy. It was on par with some of the best pasta I've had in Manhattan restaurants. To finish we had the confetti cake which in all honesty was the reason we chose to come here. It. Did. Not. Disappoint! It was super light and fluffy, just the right amount of icing and the froot loops really put it over the top. Pro tip: tip the cake over onto the froot loops so you get some in every bite. Way too much bread, 4 slices to be exact which tasted like Wonder bread. 4 slices of processed cheese which weren't even melted, followed up lettuce, tomato and hardly any bacon & eggs. I was here for media night and was thoroughly impressed by the menu items Chef Tony Le shared with us. As a celiac, I was given many options to try and everything was beautifully made. The Lamb Lollipops are a MUST, as are the Manila Clams. I think the appetizers were my favourite compared to the other courses, but I did really enjoy the Icelandic Cod as an entree. And the Candy Bar was an excellent gluten free dessert! Sweet and delicate without being too heavy or filling, this dessert was definitely one of the highlights of the night. Century Hospitality Group have always been very attentive to gluten intolerances and celiac disease, in my experience, and Rebel is no different. Very well done. I think Rebel is a great local casual fine dining concept to introduce to the west side of Edmonton. It's certainly not just a local pub, that's for sure. If you're in the neighbourhood, I recommend giving this new Century Hospitality property a try. A word of advice: it's not huge, so plan your dining experience in advance. read more

I enjoyed my visit to Rebel. Living in the neighbourhood for my entire life, it was a big deal getting a new place in our local little mall. Rebel fits the bill really well! The place is so much bigger and open than the previous. The decor is modern but a little "hipster" with an exposed brick wall and bike hanging. They have recently added a patio, which is a fab idea! I haven't been out but I wonder about the noise from 142nd street. The food was good! My chicken burger was moist but not soggy. The fries were delish, and we finished off the night with confetti cake with fruit loops! Don't eat the cake alone, it is one slice but that slice is the size of a face! It was worth it though. They have completely redone the interior after taking over the location from Piccolino's Bistro. As I do live in the area I wanted to love this restaurant as much as I love Delux, but I find it overrated and too expensive for the average dinner date. If you do end up here, try to go for the anarchy hour (happy hour) for $12 appetizers. I'd recommend the prawns and peaches, truffle honey wings or mommas got balls. This is the 3rd time I patron Rebel and as some know me here (sorry I have been away for while ;-) ), I typically wait and frequent a place a couple of times before I post a review (since all restaurants and their Staff can have an "off" night :-) ). This said, I can say that Rebel is a "neighbourhood gem" whereby you can always get a good, solid meal going solo or with a small group of people :-) I have ordered the Rebel Cheeseburger with fries, the Badass Scrambler and the Grilled Beet Salad. So, my review of 3 is not about the service--it is quite good-- My 3 is about the added salt that, with the exception of the Beet Salad, was way too much. So much so, that in the Scrambler (which unfortunately was also on the too much oily side) overwhelmed all the other wonderful flavours in it--honestly, less salt (and oil) would have made this a dream brunch meal for me :-) The same goes for the fries that I had with the Cheeseburger...the burger was really really good....however, when there is too much salt in one part of the meal, at least for me, it affects the rest. Second time at Rebel first time was lunch and it was ok. Last evening we went for dinner and we were extremely disappointed. I ordered the sangria which was described to have mixed berries, I got a juice glass heavy on ice no berries! I asked for my berries and got 4 berries in a cup. A bottle of wine was ordered brought to table full glass was poured without even being allowed a taste. Wine sent back. My spaghetti and meatballs appeared to have been sitting all evening waiting to be ordered ,very dry and congealed overly heavy in garlic only flavor detected. Salads warm and limp lacking said ingredients (4 chick peas in total).Pizza was just salty with no distinct flavor. On a positive note brie and blueberry sandwich got no complaints. Met up with some friends for brunch on a weekend. The only positive experience I had was our friendly server... and maybe the coffee. My tacos el brekky was bland and the waffles were soggy an tasted like Eggos. The serving was extremely small. My friends said the bennies were not bad but weren't particularly tasty nor filling in terms of the amount of food you get. As another reviewer stated, for $16-20 a plate I would expect a bit more food and definitely better quality and tasting food! Coffee was not free refill but you get a medium French press of coffee for I think it was $6-7, which I think it's fair. It's prepared when you order it and is better than getting unlimited drip coffee from a pot that could have been sitting there for a long time before being served, which probably would have been the case judging by how slow it was at the restaurant. Atmosphere was good. Wait staff was good. Main course food - Goombah sub was a very poorly done Boston brute from Boston pizza. Bread was just under toasted with zero flavour too it but lots of grease. The grilled cheese and blueberry was lacking also definitely need more cheese. Long rant.. TL;DR: Don't go to Rebel! Located at the old Picco Lino's Don't believe the 5 star reviews from the restaurant. They are more than likely reviews left by friends and family. First of all, I have no pictures to share because the light above our table was burnt out. The face lift was well done, and a much brighter and cleaner feeling dining room has emerged. Secondly, the food....terrible I ordered 3 starters and a pizza, and they were all mediocre at best Beef carpaccio: beef was acceptable, but the rest of the dish had me wanting. It lacked anything salty, like capers or even Parmesan cheese, and the plate itself looked like a buffet for the dead cow. Atleast 2 giant handfuls of arugula were added to the plate and hid the beauty of their waygu. But I did enjoy the grainy mustard, which was a nice touch. 1/5 - good for the cows Truffle wings: deep fried wings are fine with me...but when your flavorant is ANOTHER oil, it just doesnt work. All the truffle flavor was left on the plate. 1/5 - oil upon oil; pass! Lamb lollipops: Lamb...who doesn't like lamb? Well... everyone... when it is deep fried to a well done. Need i say more? 0/5 - WELL DONE LAMB.... Margarita pizza: This was the best part of the meal, but was not even close to being the best. A restaurant/bar in this location is exactly what the neighbourhood needs. There really aren't any casual dining restaurants within walking distance in the Parkview area. Rebel is casual but upscale (as a previous reviewer mentioned). Likely because it was so new, it was extremely crowded. The tables are rather close together, making walking to and from a bit awkward. As well, the high volume of music combined with the high level of ceiling made for a noisy experience. All of the drinks are on one side of the menu, with food on the other, and the type is small to read in the dark-ish light. That said, the service was great despite it being so busy. During "Anarchy Hour" (what the restaurant called Happy Hour), all shareables and pizzas are $10. This is an excellent value considering most of the entrees run in the $16-$30 range (some even higher). I had The Penelope pizza, with was 12 inches of mozzarella, smoked salmon, capers, red onion, and sprigs of dill. It was a white pizza with excellent flavour. We also had the fish and chips (it had some sort of cutesy name) which was listed as a shareable. The cod bites were simply adorable and delicious, with a good amount of fries and an aioli infused with malt vinegar.
