I went to Bar Bura yesterday (2/21/23) for lunch and we had a magical experience! My reservation was supposed to be LAST YEAR on 2/22/22. My original reservation was unfortunately cancelled due to weather. I did pre pay and was informed via email my money would be credited toward a future visit within one year. As the date approached I decided to reach out and make a reservation to use my credit! They happily obliged and got me in for lunch the next day. Upon entry all my information was there with my previous credit, it was so easy! They give you a gratis welcome beverage before you head up the big hill in the shuttle. We were seated at an amazing table, had wonderful service, drinks, and such delicious food! I am grateful we didn't end up going last year, it would have been a much different experience in the wind and rain, you want to be here when it's sunny! Bar Bura is the rustic cliffside bar located on the Cuatro Cuatros property. Its location overlooking the coast and Pacific Ocean makes it ideal for that perfect Instagram shot, *especially* if you manage to visit it during sunset. 90 minutes from San Diego and 30 minutes from Ensenada and the Valle de Guadalupe, I was introduced to this bar via my wine tour taken with Boca Roja Wine Adventures. Apparently this makes a perfect nightcap to a day of wine tasting. Normally to access the property one would have to take a shuttle to the bar but since the tour group has a friendly business relationship the bar they were able to take the van directly so no unloading of people required. The ride to the bar is part of the fun. Once you arrive you can seat yourself in tables or covered bales of hay. The best seats are in the barrels of hay despite the comfort. Our group staked out a corner and we literally watched the sun go down at around 5:00PST. One of the more pleasant surprises is to go to the bathroom. It is the most pleasant bathroom experience I've ever encountered. Not only is the view beautiful with no glass barrier, the bathroom itself is very clean. My Yelp friend (and bathroom critiquer) Jen G would give it her seal of approval. Luckily the view is only in one direction. The scenery alone would make this 5 stars, but I did have a pretty good mezcal margarita costing $200MXN, about $10 US. This is an average price for a craft cocktail in general, but a steal considering the view. In comparison I've paid twice the amount equivalent in euro and yen when enjoying a cocktail in a scenic rooftop bar in Venice and Tokyo, respectively. Feskeli aka Pam was very generous in letting our group share some ceviche. It was delicious especially with the taco shells. I'm a HUGE sucker for bars with a view and craft cocktail. Bar Bura is easily in my top 3 experiences for "craft cocktail with a view", beating out my rooftop experience in *Venice* and second to only the most picturesque view of the Tokyo skyline at the Mandarin Oriental. read more

Don't think I've ever taken a more picturesque pee in my entire life than at Cuatro Cuatros. The bathrooms basically sit on a cliff that overlooks the ocean and there's no windows so yeah, it's probably the most beautiful bathroom break I've ever taken. The actual seating is definitely not going to wow you. It's no joke, haystacks dressed up in some linens and the bar is pretty basic as well. Nothing else matters here though. It's easily one of the best sunsets I've ever taken in, and I can't imagine anyone who's ever been to this bar would disagree with me. read more

This place is AMAZING. The ambiance and service are incredible. I also really enjoyed their food. My husband got the costilla enchiladas in salsa verde. They were spectacular. I got the salmon scrambled and that was pretty good too. We had micheladas and they were tasty. Don't be discouraged if you didn't make reservations. My husband and I got there on a Monday at 1pm without reservations and they were able to take us in. I'm not into Instagraming my life and food, but if that's your thing, make sure you bring your good outfit because this place is picture worth it. Lastly, food portions are large. read more

I went to Valle de Guadalupe with three of my girlfriends this past weekend, and Cuatro Cuatros was the first winery we visited, on Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful place to drink some wine and catch the sunset, which was pretty much all we wanted to accomplish that day. I called ahead to see about making a reservation for either Saturday or Sunday, and was told I had to book at least three days in advance. The woman on the phone said we could try our luck walking in, but she couldn't even say how busy they were, as the phone wasn't near the tasting area (once I got there, this made sense, sort of, but it seemed pretty dumb at the time). We headed over in an Uber at around 3:00 in the afternoon. Our car was stopped at the gate, and we were asked if we had reservations, and all but told to turn around and not bother trying to walk in, as the place was full. We said we'd called ahead, and I started second guessing my Spanish comprehension, which is admittedly not amazing. Eventually, the guard or bouncer or whatever he was let us through, and we were able to check in at a reception area at what must have been the bottom of the Cuatro Cuatros property. The host (who was probably the woman on the phone) said there would be a wait, but that we could hang out and drink wine in the calm, attractive bar set-up behind her. It was an ideal waiting area, one that could've passed for its own tasting room. The view wasn't as good as the one up the hill, but it was all very pretty and pleasant. We initially wanted to do a tasting, but they seemed like kind of a bad deal--$20 for two pours, $30 for three--so we just split a bottle of white wine. I forget what kind it was, but it was solid enough. It didn't really feel like a winery experience, but I don't think that's what Cuatro Cuatros is quite going for anyway. After about twenty minutes, we were told we could make our way to one of the little buses to go up to the main bar area. The host neglected to tell us that we had to buy tickets to board, so we walked all the way to where the bus was, only to be turned away and sent back to the host stand, where she then sold us our tickets. We missed the bus and lost about ten more minutes because of what seemed like an incredibly stupid, avoidable delay. The tickets were $5, and included a beverage, to be consumed on the ride up. I picked the mini bottle of Pacifico, but there was also water and soda, I think. The bus ride was kind of nice, up a winding road with lovely views. We were with a very loud birthday party, which wasn't my favorite (it's only fun to be with loud drunk people when you're already drunk). We lost them once we got up to the main area, where we were led to a table with hay bales for seating. I was surprised at how hard and uncomfortable these were. I wasn't mad about it, but I always thought hay bales would be softer. Table service was prompt and polite. Again, there was really no wine tasting situation. I think Cuatro Cuatros is just a place to drink with a view, which, you know, nothing wrong with that. The views were spectacular. We were high up, overlooking the ocean. Even the bathrooms had a full view of the water. Everyone was taking pictures (I get the sense that this place lives by the Gram), and we got some cute ones before and during the sunset. At one point, we were told we couldn't stand in one area because the empty table nearby was reserved. That felt dumb and pointless and added to my suspicion that the management here is just not the best. We drank more wine (I think I had a cabernet franc) and Aperol spritzes and snacked on a plate of warm cheese with sausage, salad, and bread. I wasn't blown away by the food or drink, but we had a good time hanging out on our hay bales and enjoying the gorgeous views. I'd recommend Cuatro Cuatros if you're looking for a lively scene and a place to take some nice pictures. Just be prepared for minor annoyances here and there. read more

Probably the most amazing view from a urinal I've ever had. You'll have to see the attached picture. That having been said let's get on with the rest of the review. They decided (correctly) to perch a small but usable edifice atop a hill overlooking a panoramic and somewhat magnificent view of the Pacific Ocean. You'll need to take and small van/bus to get there once you've parked. For starters, get a reservation because the best tables are reserved. Several Of the non reserved tables are on the pathway to the bathrooms so you'll likely have to deal with a lot of transient foot traffic. The Sangria is good stuff so I'd suggest that path in lieu of the red wine. Not trying to be negative but the red wine is no bueno. Just being honest on this one. The white wine was definitely better than the red if that's your thing. A fairly constant flow of people come and go to enjoy this slice of heaven. When you get back to the bottom of the hill there are a couple of land boats that serve as bars and have a great crew of young people working there. So walk on up the gang plank and enjoy. $10 per person shuttle ride and a $35 minimum of food/drink purchase. Drinks were 50/50 hit and miss. I ordered the chimichurri Shrimp that was cooked from frozen so the shells could not be peeled. Since the shrimp was cooked with its shell the chimichurri came right off leaving a bland tasting shrimp. Expensive for what and how it's served. Honest review, you're paying for the views and not the food. This is one of those amazing places that has begun to lose its magic as its popularity increases. Another reviewer said that this place lives by the gram, and that is the truth; the views are magnificent and the sunsets can be epic, but unfortunately the food and wine are neither, so just be ready for that (the ceviche is pretty solid though). Also, be ready to wait. One of the reasons that the magic is being lost is that what used to feel like a rootsy experience where you could drive your own car to the top of the hill for free, has now turned into a $5 charge to wait in line for the shuttle. Granted, you do get a baby Pacifico, but the process sucks and you may miss the sunset. Pro tips: Show up Early (at least an hour before sunset). Try to make a reservation days in advance. There is no debate. The view is phenomenal. However, the overall package made this place just OK for us. We had a reservation for 4:30, which was the perfect time since we were able to catch the sunset. NOTE: get to the Cuatro Cuatros property with plenty of time to spare. You have to take a shuttle to the top of the cliffs, where the bar is located. This is a bit of a production, in that you have to walk through the parking lot and small vineyard to get to the host/ess desk where they initially check you in. The cost for the shuttle is $8 USD and that includes a small beverage (coke, water, beer). Then you take the short, bumpy ride up the hill to the bar. Check in a second time at the reception at Bar Bura. They sat us in one of the booths, not quite at the edge overlooking the cliffs, but still a very nice location with a great view of the ocean. First off, they do have a full bar so for those of you who aren't into wines, don't fear. Our cocktails were good, but one of my friends ordered the sangria, and it was pretty terrible. Second, the food was completely underwhelming. We ordered the octopus tacos first. The come 3 to an order. They had decent flavor, but the octopus was overdone and tough, and the tortillas for the tacos were a bit stale. Next was the birria taco. Just 1 to an order and served cold, we weren't excited. Flavor was bland and definitely needed the pickled onions for taste. We also ordered the grilled cheese and soup. The sandwich was completely flavorless and again cold and the soup was tiny and flavorless as well. Next was the lengua tacos which were ok, but again, only with the added pickled veggies. The meat was at least tender. Lastly, we had the crab arancini, which was probably one of the better of all the dishes. It was freshly fried, and had great crunch. Just needed a bit more kick to the sauce. After the sun set, it get really cold. We should've known it when we first got the the hostess and she and all the hosts had full on Northface puffer coats on. Our service was great. Seemed like we didn't wait too long for either our drinks or food. We waited the longest for our check. Go figure. read more

This place is spectacular. You drive up on what you think is a view point. You are perfectly happy to see the view/and or sunset from this spot. Then a bus shows up and takes you to a bar settled into the cliff. There are bales of hay covered in cloth around small little tables and seating areas. They have a full bar here and also serve food. We didn't partake in the food but the cocktails were on the higher end but not at tourist prices. I would have never discovered this place if it wasn't for Boca Raja - Baja Wine Adventures. What a gem. I felt like I belonged to a secret society. There was a lively crowd all waiting for the sunset. You cannot beat this view. Even the bathrooms have a spectacular view. I'm not sure how you would find this place but I would say you should book a tour with Boca Roja - Baja Wine Adventures because this alone was pretty much worth the price. read more

I was looking forward to this place for about a year, especially because of the bar and vineyard. I loved the idea of having wine or cocktails while catching that gorgeous sunset I grew up with. We got in the shuttle, the ride took about 7 minutes and cost $8/person which included beer (Victoria), water, soda or seltzer water. We grabbed a table and my husband walked over to the bar to order cocktails, service was a little slow. He ordered an Old Fashioned and a Bee's Knees (my husband told them what went in it, gin, simple syrup & lemon juice). The server brought our drinks, they were good, nothing extraordinary. As soon as the sun went down, it got cold so we decided to close our tab. I kept looking at the amount thinking it was a mistake. $34.72 for two cocktails??? We like going out for cocktails and will pay more for a well crafted cocktail but this was too much for what we got. I asked the waiter if this was a normal price and he said it was normal for this place and apologized. I think they saw this "white boy/gavacho" and decided to increase their bottom line but little did they know he is Mexican. Gracias raza! We were visiting Valle for the weekend and made reservations for this beautiful place for last November but we had to change our date and the staff made it really easy to change dates. First time we decided to go to the tiny restaurant which had the smallest menu EVER and just okay drinks. The food was nothing special and I tried to at least order fries and they did not want to sell me just fries! When it came to the reservation first time they didn't even answer the phone and their excuse was that they have bad reception but some how the phone still rang. So that makes no sense to me! We were a group of 12 that prepaid for this experience. The views were breathtaking and a gorgeous day out. With a group that big we were ready to order everything on the menu. There was plenty of times our waiter didn't come around and offer us more drinks or more food. We had to ask for drink and napkins 4 times till we finally had any. We all have worked in the service industry and our waiter was not coming over to our table enough. It's not a huge place... The buss boy was better with his friendly service. We would see our waiter hanging around the bar and talking when we had empty glasses. After one person paid the whole bill and tipped the waiter came back to one of us and asked us if the service was ok because we tipped less than 20%. My friend was too stunned to speak. He gave the guy another $20 and then told us all afterwards. I wish he told us sooner so we could speak to the manager about the terrible service we had with that waiter. What an amazing experience, I mean amazing! The entire property between the winery, tasting room, bar, cabana restaurant and cabanas, was beautiful! Our experience at the tasting room was outstanding, Valeria was just the best host and was fabulous at explaining all the wines and their characteristics in an interesting and easy to understand way. She showed us the proper way to taste a wine which was a great refresher and improved our experience greatly. The decor and tasting room was lovely, with a rustic patio and a nice view of the vineyards. The absolute best part of the tasting room is the restrooms which are a short walk down a path, to the most amazing and enchanting water garden inside of the bathroom , it sounds sort of weird but it was just amazing! After the tasting room we had lunch at the Cabanas Restaurant and it was lovely meal, with so many fun and interesting dishes on the menu. First time I have ever had "worm" salt with tequila, it was so good, a sort of umami flavor I wish we had it for all the other times we had tequila on the trip, so unique! The staff at the restaurant were all super friendly and knowledgeable about the ingredients and food. Our favorite was the chili marmalade that came with the cheese plate, truly amazing!!!! We were so happy to find out they had it for sale , best souvenir ever! After seeing a million pictures online, I finally had a chance to try this spot and its pretty darn good. I happen to surf just down the way pretty frequently, knew this place was nearby, but never ventured towards it and this trip included my wife and a few friends, so it was the perfect opportunity to finally see what all the fuss was about. It's pretty easy to find, follow the signs off the 1 past the last toll before Ensenada, pay $5 a car to enter, drive through the vineyard, up the hill and you'll be directed to park. Then jump on a shuttle down to the bar//overlook//photo opportunity extravaganza. This gets pretty annoying after a while, but I guess thats the world we live in. It was pretty packed on a Saturday, we didn't have reservations, but apparently you can make them and we were seated right away in a nice corner shared, high-top table with an amazing view of the Ensenada Bay. We ordered margaritas, which were fantastic by the way, which is also surprisingly hard to find these days and we laughed the afternoon away. Plenty of nice looking plates passed us and we finally decided to order a charcuterie plate with meats, cheeses, bread, crackers, olives, etc. It was great and I look forward to going back and trying some other things. The bathrooms have one of the greatest views around, so check them out and don't be scared, but you might see some field mice running around the hay bails. That's normal, however, I did see some people get freaked out, but you are on a bluff, overlooking the ocean, on a side of the cliff, in the desert off Mexico. I saw that you could order bottles of wine, but didn't see them by the glass, or on any menu for that matter. After plenty of margaritas, a few Victoria's, and our food sampling, we were off, feeling great and it was time for some Tacos from the best stand around, EL Trailero. Okay, dry white wine- only one white on the menu at $12 a glass. Last year it was a short van ride from the parking area, now it is twice as far- so once you are at the bar, you have to wait for a van to take you back. We got here at 12:30 and the staff was not prepared to serve until about 1:00 so meanwhile we enjoyed the view, and what a view! The scenery is amazing overlooking the ocean and uplifts. We had a bottle of wine (good) a cheese plate (good) and octopus tacos (very good). I would come again perhaps to enjoy a sunset and drinks. read more

Would love to post pictures, but.... First the good. Service was excellent and food and drink were good. Definitely a bit of an operation as others have mentioned but the views are quite impressive. Now to the not so good. We paid for the gold level seating and were treated to a front rail view that was truly elegant for our "sunset" seating. Unfortunately, we were not able to get any shots of the sunset as we were bum-rushed by a non-stop stream of insta-douches chronicling their lives on social as if they were the stars of their own sad dreams. Literally missed the the sunset as we did see many a moon rise as the self-appointed paparazzi did their thing. DO NOT pay the extra for gold seating as sitting in the back still affords great views without feeling cheated. Hopefully the word gets out so the management can deal with this and help the poor, misguided souls to actually live their lives instead of trying to look like they are. Bottom line, good, but not the best food and drink and worth a visit as long as your expectations are appropriately set. read more

Wow the view is spectacular if you're drinking food is ok to snack on. Definitely go to the restroom what a view even from there.

One of the cutest setups in Ensenada. The view was amazing, food was delicious and our server was sweet and attentive. Didn't stay in the cabañas but would love to next time. The perfect weekend getaway. read more
