    Baguette with salted butter

Good, but needs service improvement. My party of five went to brunch today and had to wait almost fifteen minutes to be greeted by our server, to get water and our menus. It wasn't busy only five tables including ours. There were plenty of other people working that would just look at our table. I have no ideas why no one would get us started. Our server did apologize for the wait, but again, it wasn't busy. He also seemed surprise no one gave us menus or water. They also need to update their online menu. I was very looking forward to trying their French onion soup that was on their online menu. However, when we got our menus the French onion soup was nowhere to be found. Instead a tomato bisque was added in its place. The server said they took it off the menu. I have no idea why a French cafe would take their French onion soup off the menu. That was a huge let disappointment . Our table of five tried a few different crepes; crepe suzette, mushroom and leak - added bacon, ham - added egg, roasted chicken and potato - add bacon. I think my mushroom and leek was the best out of them all. We also had a starter of baguette, which came with salted butter. I also had an espresso martini which was delicious. I hope they can dial in the service and get that figured out.

Beet risotto with seafood of the day added.

Another delicious meal at Bar C'est L'eau! Great food, great vibes. And the service this evening was the best yet!

I love that the menu constantly evolves with the seasons. Every time there's something new I can try. Today's stand out at lunch was the heirloom tomato and stone fruit salad. I paired it with a grilled summer squash sandwich and a latte. It was perfect for this rainy August afternoon. This place just opened a few months ago and they're still learning what works and trying things out. There's a passionate, kind, and dedicated team working here. I look forward to seeing them grow as they are one of the few restaurants in the Olympia area that I keep coming back to. If you're lucky enough to be served by Carlo ask him for a wine recommendation. He won't let you down!

Duck cassoulet - my mouth was burning from the intensity of the salt.

Cozy atmosphere. There were 3 employees that night, the woman who initially waited on us actually appeared to roll her eyes when we ordered. She seemed pretty rushed and just didn't want to work that night or something. The bartender was friendly and came for our second round and he actually seemed more welcoming and friendly. The drinks menu is a bit small (compared to other nearby bars). We got 5 drinks, one espresso one which wasn't great and the rest were alright. Nothing that made us go "Oh man, try that!" but they weren't bad either. The food, looks better than normal bar food, which I loved. We ordered "Balls of Gibralter" - North African meatballs, which were *SO GOOD*, so delicious EXCEPT the texture. The flavors were all amazing, but it was as if there was too much egg and not enough breadcrumbs because it gave the impression of being wildly undercooked, even though you could see no pink. If they were firmer, they would've been perfect. They seem to have a rotating grilled cheese special I wouldn't mind checking out next time. The ambiance-lovely. The service - meh The drinks - average The food - has a lot of potential

Next best was the bread - it was perfectly soft inside with a crispy crust. Between how oily the dish was and my nose running from the increased spice as I continued eating, I wouldn't return for this dish. The eggs weren't noticeable in appearance or taste- I had to search for them. The "creamy grits" were creamy, but the black pepper taste was STRONG. Definitely ordered the side for the "creamy" factor, hoping when the server said harissa in the eggs would have a mild spice, that the grits would calm my mouth. The amount of pepper made this unsuccessful. But if you like black pepper a lot then you'll enjoy them. My son enjoyed the beignet's. The server was also the host and he was kind. It was easy to get his attention when needed. I didn't see anyone with a grin on their face after taking bites of their food. I looked around quite a bit out of curiosity. So for ambiance, kind and prompt service, and the possibilities of the menu I gave it 4 stars. We only tried the few things I mentioned. I did also appreciate the bottle of water ready on every table. Note that there is no kids menu and it's mostly table seating. So maybe try on your own or with other adults, and leave the kids at home?

I ended up calling (twice - nobody answered the first time) and got an order over the phone. I headed down there and the first thing I noticed is that the building needs work. There is a tin roof siding kind of thing along the entire front of the restaurant. It is old. Paint coming off. Not a good sign. Went into the bar as I didn't realize there was a separate bar and restaurant. I didn't see any signs showing that. I was directed by a bartender to go to the other side to get my order. A very nice blonde girl was there and went to bagging my order getting my chowder and everything else which took 5 to 6 minutes. It was over $64 with the tip. Got back to my hotel room to try my french dip. Problem is, they forgot the dip - no au jus. It is just warm roast beef in a bun. No flavor. Nothing to it. I couldn't even finish a half of it. The tater tots were bad. Half were soggy. No seasoning. No flavor. Not worth eating. The pickle was good, but wrapped in a napkin kind of thing that made my hands messy trying to unwrap it to eat it. Next up was the clam chowder. It was yellow, so I assumed it was a corn chowder. It is neither. It smells like a ham chowder and tastes like a vegetable/potato soup. It is very watery and had big pieces of celery and other veggies. I have no idea what this is supposed to be, but it is not a clam chowder. Finally, I got chipotle wings. They appear to have been a dry rub. I had hoped they either would come with a chipotle sauce to dip them in or they would be sauced wings. They were neither. Being a dry rub, they had a hint of chipotle flavor, but basically tasted like bare wings. My wife got a pasta bread thing of some kind. She had 4 bites and that was it. $64 fo about 10 total bites of food. I hate to waste that money and throw away so much food, but I'd be doing homeless people a disservice by giving it away. To recp, building is old looking. Forgot an important part of one of the dishes. Soggy, unseasoned tots. Watery, "clam" chowder that that is really a potato/veggie soup, wings with almost no flavor - may as well have just asked for bare, unseasoned wings. Wasted $64.
