Not a ton of seats and certainly busier on the weekends given the central downtown location, but I like it here. I wa shocked walking into this place at 730pm on a Wednesday to find it totally empty. The inside was so cool and speakeasy vibe. Dark couches, mood lighting, candles: it was intimate and cozy yet fancy and fun. The service was quick and thorough and we felt thoroughly tended to in the bar. Bar Chloe is an insider's place for locals because it's a tiny place with no sign and no windows. Old Timers remember when it was a vodka bar called Voda, which I have heard had an idyllic charm. It's the perfect place for clandestine secret gatherings because the only people who know how to get there are people who have been there before. The inside is old avant-garde Hollywood meets vintage chaise lounge, complete with the most narrow tables I have seen. Happy Hour is the best time to go because there are $4 Stella's and $5 appetizers (risotto balls, grilled cheese, mac & cheese etc.) I had heard of the bacon-wrapped dates were the best but they were ok. Chicken satays were terrible but they were nice enough to take them off the bill. Service is unparallelled and they seemed to have figured out to be attentive without being obtrusive. They also have the BEST BARTENDER in the world who actually knows how to make French Martini's correct (they really will open a bottle of champagne for you!!!) and he has concocted a fancy elderberry drink with fresh juice....He's also cute and charming if you're into that curly haired fresh college boy look.... Used to come here a lot and loved it before Covid. Went last night again and sad to say I will never be coming back. Drinks starts from $14 and they now include a 20% tips in the bill and still have the tips section so people who don't look at their bills closely can tip on top of that. This is straight up greedy and super shady. Also the waiter pretty much threw us out by doing a last call 20 min after we ordered our first drink (almost two hours before their closing time just because there were only two tables). Had a fabulous experience celebrating my birthday here. Laurie , the coordinator was great about timely emails regarding reservations and what I wanted to host as appetizers and dessert. I was on the fence about what exactly I was going to rate this, because I know that people work hard to keep places running. I also know that like myself, I want to go to spend my hard earned cash at a place that's worth it. In reality, they have such an amazing happy hour that's hard to beat, that's not even considering that this is the touristy area of Santa Monica, where almost everything is overpriced. So as mentioned, the prices are good during happy hour. The drinks arent the best, as I felt both drinks I tried were a bit diluted. The zesty smell of the drinks though was on another level, a good one. It's not very spacious, even though I like that casual ambiance. Had a great experience here the other night. A nice lounge that is great to have conversations in. No need to speak up or yell. Can sit either at the bar or there is a good amount of couches you can lounge around on. The selection on whiskey is great. Went with Knob Creek. Bar tenders are very attentive. They also gave me some good recommendations on what to mix my choice of whiskey with. We ended up here because all the other bars in the area were super packed. We parked in the parking lot by the mall. Paid about 5$ for about 3 hours. Do keep in mind that last call is at 11pm. They close up the bar at midnight so make sure to get there early. Being a student at UCLA it's hard to find a nice bar. I don't always want to go mingle with students at pint night or go to some trashy place. A classy, intimate space not too far from the Third Street Promenade, but far enough to be less busy. I showed up half-way through happy hour (which runs 6-8 pm; M-F) on a Monday evening and there were just a few patrons and the bartender. I sat at the bar and ordered the special happy hour cocktail. Not sure how often it changes, but it's $8 as opposed to their regular $12 cocktails. That evening it was a COFFEE MCKAY, made with vodka, a housemade coffee-infused simple syrup, creme de cacao and a lemon twist. I subbed in gin instead and it was such an amazing drink. I highly recommend it for those who love coffee. My friend arrived a bit later and we split some munchies. The happy hour menu features three $5 food options: FRIES, GRILLED CHEESE and CALAMARI. We ordered one of each to start. The fries came in a tin with some malt vinegar and ketchup on the side. They were good and I was sure I was going to get another until I poured out the remaining fries onto a plate and a pool of oil came out. Buzz kill. The oil almost overflowed the plate and I was a bit mortified at how much oil had not drained before the fries were poured into the tin. Really, I can wait a few seconds for you to drain those fries. But damn they were good. The grilled cheese was simple. You get two halves grilled with gooey melted English cheddar. The calamari was also good, but could be a bit crunchier. There were two sauces on the side: cocktail sauce and a citrus aioli. Still hungry we added a few items from the regular menu: * CHEESE BOARD - We did the three and it came with humbolt fog, cabot cheddar and brillat savarin. I like that they include honey without asking. * PROSCIUTTO - For the charcuterie, we only had one meat. It comes with dijon mustard, toast points and cornichons. The prosciutto was alright. * TUNA TARTARE - Probably the most disappointing of the dishes. It just didn't taste all that fresh. So, definitely come for the cocktails and maybe nibble on some fries (make sure they're drained!) and a grilled cheese. I wonder if the burger's any good? read more

AMAZING SERVICE! My friend and I entered Bar Chloe to discover zero seating. Immediately we were approached with drink menus and the assurance that some seats would open up. Once they did, we were guided to our seats. Newer patrons hovered over the vacant space, but the staff sent them away since we were there 15 minutes prior. I was floored at how much respect and service I was getting. That alone makes me want to come back and bring friends. Thank you Bar Chloe for hiring a great staff. The Crisp had some pepper which numbed my lips. That's the sort of kick I was looking for in my drink. We asked for specialties that weren't on the menu and we were promptly accommodated. This place is just as delicate and pretty as it's name--elegant, gold accents, private tables and plush couches. There are lounge furniture inside if you choose to sit. Since this place is small, there is limited standing room. Drinks are more expensive, but also stronger than most bars. As I was leaving, some guy in a suit grabs my arm (seriously) and asks me if I've paid. Um yeah, like 30 minutes ago when the bartender brought my drink to me. We ordered food and drinks at around 7:50 p.m. and it didn't come out until 8:40 p.m. It seemed as if they were understaffed because our waitress also played the role of hostess and assisted at the bar. So Jake Gyllenhaal's old brother works here. Or lost twin. He makes a mean strong drink too. Before the yelp screen check, it is hard to understand the lay out. It's like walking into someone's swanky living room. Bar counter with 7-8 seats. 2 sectional couches that stretch along the other wall. Huge empty space that is neither here nor there in between that. Throw in a rug and it's a living room. If there are no seats available on the couches next to complete strangers, and no seats at the bar, you are stuck awkwardly standing in the center space which I call the twilight zone. After the yelp screen check, it's no wonder the space is so awkward. It's a hotel lounge!! Not built for crowds and large parties. Not intimate enough to be cozy but not well seated enough to accommodate several groups. The menu has food, snacks, and a drink menu all in one. The big black board towards the back has the features - which currently is the Melonade. It was refreshing and stiff. Every other drink was stiff, I guess they only do stiff which makes up for the drink sizes being tiny. Would I come again? On a quiet night maybe.
