I love the vibe here. Came here to meet friends for a drink and it was so nice. I ordered a some vodka raspberry cocktail and m it was quite delicious. Very refreshing and presentation was nice. It was a Monday evening, so there wasn't a lot of people there, but I thought it was perfect. Charming little spot just off all the craziness of Santa Monica. Spending the weekend in my native LA (down from SF) for a celebration weekend in honor of my friend's birthday, I emailed my "go-to" LA friends asking them where I should host this small gathering. Three people responded Bar Chloe. I figured I didn't have to do any research from that point on, so I called and was told a couch area had been reserved for us. This is a very small bar/lounge of this hotel. I was there on a Thursday night and it was crowded. I liked the vibe, furniture, and the lighting. This place was really cool & the service was great! Bar Chloe has a very cool vibe to it with its dimmed lighting, couches, fully stocked bar & decor. We arrived during happy hour so we decided to go for the old fashioned & Moscow mule. Both were perfectly handcrafted by our bartender. I don't know how to review this place to be honest. First, I thought it was still Voda... the last time I came here, (happened across it), they said there was a private party. Ok, fair enough. The second time, last weekend, I told people to meet us there around 10PM. We got there a little early, about 9:30PM. The place is tiny but just enough people were in there to make it cozy. The music was good although the drinks were average and overpriced. The music was great and the people we talked to were down-to-earth and nice so it was perfect. However, two of my friends showed up around 10:30PM and they were told there was a private party. Ah... I was very suspicious now. I spoke to the bouncers- they weren't very friendly and told me I could go back inside (like it was a privilege or something) but no go to them. We waited 10 min, walking around asking anyone about a private party and no one knew anything. Then I saw a trendy dude walk in with a chick and asked him. He said it wasn't an issue to get in so I knew what this was all about. As an earlier review stated, if you want to get into places like this I guess you need to either be lucky or look "trendy". This is a perfect date spot. The bar/lounge is classy with dim lighting and Victorian decor. Nothing beats a cozy, plush couch and intimate conversations. The environment and noise level are ideal for those flirty whispering sweet nothings moments! Now, onto the food and drinks: The grilled cheese sandwich is amazing, we probably had 4 orders throughout the evening. Calamari was lightly fried, no excess grease and it was so tender with a hint of sweetness. Fries were good, not spectacular, we had only 1 order of it. I am a Cab Sauv gal, I find most Malbec too spicy and earthy for me. But my girlfriends highly recommended the happy hour Malbec and boy, I am glad I gave it a try. The Malbec has a smooth finish, very easy to drink with no hint of that herbal, licorice/anise taste typically found in Malbec. Happy Hour ends at 8pm! Service was superb and attentive. read more

Everything about this place is small. Small space, Small bar, Small tables Ambiance: Bar Chloe's decor gave off a vintage and classy vibe. The place had candles and dim lights. Ok this place was pretty odd to me. Initially It has a really cool vibe and I was impressed with it since it was in Santa Monica. After I sat for a while and looked around I realized it was tons of frat bros and sorority sisters trying REALLY hard to get into the craft cocktail/speakeasy scene. The drinks weren't terrible but I could also tell the bartenders maybe just googled "ingredients for a negroni" and then threw one together. It tries super hard to compete with other craft cocktail bars in LA but at the end of the day it felt like I was at a frat party with nicer shoes and less jungle juice. read more

I really like this bar! It is so quaint but classy, great ambiance and very nice, authentic staff. We went last night on New Years Eve and it wasn't busy at all. Not in a dead kind of way. There were enough people to make it feel like a really cool place to be, but not so many that it couldn't maintain a level of class and chill. At one point a big group of screaming, obnoxious guys came in and the manager/owner(?) very professionally escorted them out. She seemed very cool, greeting customers and tending the bar when she could. The bartenders were also very nice and cool, the guy working was very knowledgeable and excited when answering our amateur questions about their nice collection of Japanese whiskey ;). He also didn't judge our weird drink requests and was very hospitable and engaged. We also ordered the cheese plate and it was so good! My boyfriend and I love everything about this bar! Very cool little spot nestled in the midst of busy Downtown SM... Met up with some people here for an event/outing. They reserved a nice couch area that was more than enough to seat our party. Low lights--but still enough to see, low music--quiet enough to talk and good service. The drinks are average--beers$6, cocktails a little more. My only disappointment was the mac n cheese. Being a mac n cheese lover, and after reading a stellar review, I gave it a whirl. It was really bland. Kind of like alfredo dressing that doesn't taste like anything. Too bad. Very cool place overall, parking sucks so look for a spot in one of the nearby ramps--only$3 during weekdays but I'm guessing more on Fri/Sat. read more

The wedding party had a private open-bar event from 6pm-8pm, so it was just a bunch of Koreans in this chic little bar for 2 hours. And boy were we having a blast. The bartenders were nice and attentive and one complimented me on my jacket, which I was proud of because this jacket is pimp. I haven't gotten so many compliments on a piece of clothing ever. The newlyweds even provided bar food from their menu and it was fried deliciousness. They served these crispy fried artichokes. Dude, they were divine. Then came the fries and wow. The fries were HOT and just salty enough that the starch oozed goodness. After we had our fun the bar opened to the public at 8 and we had to buy our drinks, which were really pricey. But at that point people were so wasted that no one cared. The bride was hilariously celebrating and loving every moment, which was so worth the trip down. I went to Bar Chloe for Saturday night drinks a few weeks back. It was our last stop in Santa Monica, after happy hour and dinner nearby. We went just because it was in the area, so I wasn't expecting anything special. I was pleasantly surprised. The place was fantastic, particularly for a Westside bar in such a busy part of town. Calm and attractive, with excellent drinks. We walked in at around 8:30 and hung around for a couple of hours. We were a group of seven at one point, and there was plenty of room for us. We were even able to sit down, relaxing on the comfortable lounge banquette seating while we drank. It's possible Bar Chloe gets crowded later in the night, but it was still pretty manageable when we left after ten. This was great for our group, as we preferred being able to hear each other speak. Service was on point, too. The bartenders were attentive and quick, and they knew exactly what they were doing. My husband Matt B. and I had two rounds of cocktails, and every one we ordered was delicious. The Ramos Gin Fizz was superb, a frothy concoction of gin, lemon, lime, vanilla, orange flower water, egg white, cream, sugar, and club soda. A labor-intensive cocktail shaken halfway to milkshake. Refreshingly sweet and citrusy, a great first round cocktail. The 1449 was Bar Chloe's Penicillin, a smooth, smokey drink of scotch, ginger, lemon, honey, and sage. For our second round, we ordered the two cocktail specials written on the chalkboard, both of them heavy on the booze. The 23 Year Old Fashioned was a twist on the Old Fashioned made with 23-year-old Ron Zacapa rum. Lovely, balanced drink. The Coffee Negroni mixed gin, sweet vermouth, Cynar, and St. George coffee liqueur. This was maybe my favorite of the four. It just worked, the coffee and Cynar bringing the well-rounded bitterness of a great negroni. I like a raucous Saturday night as much as the next married woman in her thirties (even this may be a lie), but I really love a bar where I can get a fancy craft cocktail without having to deal with a crowd. LA deco meets Georgian Dublin bar. Fine cocktails and lovely lounges to lean back into. Once the door closes behind you, you might forget where you are entirely. The cocktails and bar service are superb. Never having been an adventurous drinker, sticking to what I know best, I've been enticed out of my shell by the gorgeous cocktails and glassware and into a new world of grown up drinks with cool names and deep tastes. Came here last night for my birthday celebration after my roommate read so many positive reviews on yelp. I was looking for a place that my group (about 15 people) and I could enjoy some great cocktails and each other's company in a stylish and comfortable environment. Bar Chloe totally delivered!! This is an amazing place for a big group. I emailed the owner, Laurie in advance to secure the reservation, and she gave us a huge spot with tufted velvet couches and and a long faint couch. I was able to pre-order a few bottles of delicious champagne, which Laurie had waiting on the table with glasses when my party arrived. We also ordered a couple things to eat: grilled cheese, mac and cheese with truffle and avocado crostinis. All were outstanding! The vibe is fun and trendy-casual. The music is an awesome and eclectic mix of yesterday's and today's popular music. Our waitress was extremely friendly and attentive, as were all of the bartenders we encountered - a rare find in LA! The space is quite small and we had about 20 people in our group but we were able to grab a corner of the room and it was perfect. Comfy couches, very nice decor and vibe. Low key and relaxing. And parking in the lot next door is super easy. I imagine that if it got crowded it might be a bit less fun if you end up standing the whole night. I mean, very pleasant waitress (short blond hair) - Delicious Rose Champagne served in adorable glasses - even the other guests were pleasant and friendly - maybe this place attracts nice people. No one tried to push us to leave or take over half our booth. It felt really comfortable - so not LA or bar-y. We walked in around 5pm on a Friday - plenty of seating. Around 6:30 the place was full, but not crazy packed. Noise level is perfect - never felt like I was screaming or couldn't hear my friends. If you're in Santa Monica - this is a great bar for you if you want to actually talk to your friends, eat great food (bar menu has items for $7 -- like the grilled cheese) and you don't want to feel like you're in a cheap bar. Great lowkey spot! Discovered this place on yelp and I was nearby in the area so I decided to come in for a quick drink. Great classy place. They have a nice list of craft cocktails that they make along with a great selection of liquors. The ambiance and environment in here was great. Would be a great date spot for some drinks. When the door is closed, it almost feels like you're walking into a hidden location. Given the proximity to 3rd street, that's a major plus! It's a very chic and intimate bar with limited seating. You might have to wait around a bit to get a seat or share with others. The drinks are all really good, I've never been disappointed. Personal faves include: the stilleto (vodka, raspberry, vanilla), rosemary gimlet, and the crisp (cucumber, Serrano pepper). Drinks are on the more expensive side (approx $15) and the food menu is limited, but all in all, it's a nice spot to grab a drink if you're in the area. read more

I went here last Saturday night. My brother is a local and we decided to have a pre-dinner cocktail. When we arrived, it was quiet and chill....maybe 10 others quietly sipping and talking in the lounge...despite it's proximity to the 3rd St Promenade (it was also the night before the LA Marathon, and spring break). The atmosphere at the time, was laid back with mostly 40-somethings, and couples. The decor is dark, soft, and old school lounge-y with a bit of modernism. The sofas looked lush and relaxing. We took a couple of stools at the bar and I had a Mezcal Old Fashioned, which was perfect. It is my new favourite. My brother was equally impressed with his drink, though I can't recall what he had. Service was great...not overly attentive, but there when you wanted it. My only complaint is that the 36" high bar stools don't have foot rests (nor does the bar-front). I'm 6' tall and it was a bit of pain...but manageable. We went elsewhere for a great dinner and decided to return for another drink later on (11:00pm). When we arrived, the place was packed with 20-somethings, and the music was blaring. We could not even get close to the bar. Obviously, it's a popular spot, but we were looking for something more chill so that we could talk. This was not what we were in the mood for (at the time)....so we moved on. The moral of the story: Chloe seems to be a great spot but it really depends on what you're looking for, and what time you get there. read more

"We'll have the first 5 items on your happy hour menu... thanks." This was a lot considering there were only 6 things on their happy hour menu... there were 3 of us, so we weren't being THAT bad. We had: Mac n Cheese - ooey gooey cheesey goodness with smoked gouda so it almost tasted as though there was bacon within. Good stuff! Grilled Cheese - Normal stuff on white bread. I make it better at home. But I can't ever pass up grilled cheese! If it's on the menu... odds are, I'm ordering it. Fried Artichokes - This was interesting... it's deep fried, so again, we couldn't pass this up either. Yum! Calamari - Greasy, oily calamari served with aoli. This was ok. Risotto Balls - Deep fried pasta served with aoli. Eh. Forgettable. We passed on the Chicken Satays... ya'll know I don't do the chicken. Happy Hour drinks only consist of Stella, House white or red wine and a Pimm's Cup... all for only $5 each. I had the latter which kinda tasted like what Pine Sol smells like, which consists of Gin, Gingerale and lemonade. Not doing that again. So although the food wasn't great, the place was really cute... looks like it could be the lounge area of a small, French boutique hotel. Tables and lounge chairs surround the small area and stools at the bar. Heard it gets crowded during the weekend, so I'd consider this place a pre-party hot spot to avoid the masses. . read more
