MINI MEZZE SAMPLER VG

We had a great time for a weekday girls night out- we shared the Mezze platter, the stuffed phyllo dough, and a couple bottles of cote du Rhône. Service was great and even got to chat with Brandon, the manager. Can't wait to be back and try to catch happy hour

Impeccable dining and service with an unbeatable view. I had quite a few cocktails each one was handled with precision and care the taste quite amazing each ingredient complimenting the beverages. I tried 2 dishes the chicken and the potatoes. Both dishes were excellent and flavorful I left full. Very few places in Santa Monica offer such an amazing view. I would include it but I only took a video and not a photo. The service staff has tried many things on the menu drinks and food included enabling them to guide you to a proper choice. I met a few many people and dealt with so many names that I forgot the name of my bartender.I did ask for it and I thought I wrote it down. But I give the sole bartender carrying the bar from 5:00 PM to their departure my utmost praise.

Calabra is a rooftop bar in Proper, though at times it may feel like it's mainly for Proper guests. The walk into the lobby and elevator to the top floor was a nice experience. There was definitely a small sense of status when the host asked whether we were staying at the Proper, since there were different seating areas for guests vs non-guests. With regards to food, everything is definitely on the pricey end (think Erewhon). However, after ordering food for our party of three and trying each one, it's really hard to knock the price. We had: Mezze Sampler: Try all their dips (muhammara, hummus, baba ganoush, fava bean & pea dip... with naan and crudite. It's hard to get excited over dip, but this is one to get excited ove.r The fava bean & pea was a hit-miss, though not hateable - moreso dry and less preferred. Even a dip as regular as hummus was done well (though less exciting than their muhammara and baba ganoush). Green Shakshuka: Ever have regular (red) Shakshuka? This is its green cousin, best described as salsa verde is to regular red salsa. It definitely comes with a kick and tastes like it with except the toppings expected of a shakshuka. Fattoush: Even something as regular as a salad, Calabra chefs have found a way to make this exciting, too. The sumac pita croutons and vinaigrette were on the stronger side if you aren't expecting it or are not used to sumac. If you are, this is a great salad. If not, it will definitely come off a tad too sour, almost as if drinking lemon juice. Chicken Souvlaki: Nothing beats a good grilled chicken... Mint? Dill? Yes, please! By this point, we were stuffed, but we still kept because it was THAT good. Our server AJ was great at taking care of us during the entire dining experience, refilling our water multiple times. Though seating was very tight (one of us bunched up against their plants), we enjoyed the eats, the views, and the walk to the beach and and 3rd Street Promenade. After paying the bill, the correct final amount has still not been adjusted even after a week, but regardless, I'm looking forward to the next dining experience here already!

Love the vibes of this rooftop! Came here for Sunday brunch, street parked right in the front. Ordered salmon tartare, crab toast, French toast, green shakshuka. Everything was very tasty and good quality. It's just really expensive, like $25 for each item. Service was pretty slow. Our waiter didn't come back to our table a lot, but we were busy chatting so it wasn't a big issue. It looked like they allow dogs, so will come back for a brunch date with the dog!

Date night Girls night solo outing at the bar Family gathering Calabra is a perfect fit for all kinds of gatherings. Excellent service, and I love the presentation of the food. It's in a good location on top of a hotel with a great view. If you live in Santa Monica and have friends visiting out of town, this is where you wanna take them. The taste and the quality of the food are exactly what you get in other restaurants, but what stood out to me is the presentation of the food, which I loved. Also, if you want a nightcap after eating and dining at Calabra, you can go downstairs to the first floor of the proper hotel, where there is a beautiful bar area with couches and chairs. It's classy, intimate, and romantic.

Located on the 7th floor of the Proper Hotel, this place is a solid spot for a rooftop lunch. Our group of 4 had a great table near the bar with an awesome view of the city and ocean. Good service from start to finish and the food we ordered definitely hit the spot. I want to come back just to try more of the menu.

Finally! A restaurant and bar that knows great service. We had a platter to share and the naan bread was so soft and delicious. We then had the branzino which was made with a chimmichuri sauce. The General Manager Juan gave us some quality time by taking our picture at various spots from the roof top, which we really appreciated. I liked too that they had organic wine for us 50-something ladies that tend to wine headaches. We will be back!

I'm usually skeptical of restaurants with great ambience because more often than not, the food doesn't live up to the vibe. But Calabra in Santa Monica? Far from that. Surprisingly (and kind of hilariously), the food here is actually really good. I've been a few times now, including a special anniversary dinner with my girlfriend--and fellas, if you're looking for a solid date night spot, bring your girl here. The design and mood are perfect for a romantic evening. What impressed me most was how thoughtful the menu is. I've tried a few classics and also their Valentine's prix fixe course--everything was satisfying, both in flavor and presentation. You can tell they care about how their dishes look and taste. Also, shoutout to the staff. Super friendly, engaged, and on top of it.

We came here for drinks and apps before dinner. We weren't expecting the apps to be so big, so you definitely get what you paid for. The pita was fresh, hummus delicious! The fries were crispy and very seasoned, just how we like them. Fries also came with this green sauce that was delicious. The drinks were good as well. Overall we would come back for drinks and maybe a full dinner next time! It is a little expensive but what else would expect from a rooftop bar in Santa Monica?

This spot never disappoints. Everytime I stop by I have a the best experience with staff from the host to the waiters to the bar attendees to literally anyone working there. Food: Some big hitters on the menu Challah French Toast - this literally made me cry with joy when I bit into it.im a little embarrassed to say that but it made me so happy inside tears literally came out of my eyes. By far a must try on the menu. Greek Fries - the feta dill aioli is absolutely amazing. Crispy Latke - comes in 3 pieces but you can ask for extras. Steak & Eggs - this place makes one of the best steaks in L.A on a rooftop. Hands down. Service: What can I say! The staff is brilliant and amazing at how they work the space. Everyone is polite, attentive, professional, and that makes all the difference. When you have a great team like Calabras staff your experience is elevated to another level. Atmosphere: It doesn't get any better than a perfect spring day in Santa Monica at a beautiful rooftop restaurant. The layout is full of plants and small trees creating a relaxing and sociable atmosphere. Everyone is having a great time. Conversations and smiles all around. It's the perfect place to catch up with loved ones and friends. Price: Prices are great, the salads could get pricey if you add proteins. Other than that it's fair pricing. Location: It located on the rooftop of the Proper Hotel in Santa Monica. Once you walk onto the hotel go right to the elevators and hit level 7. Note: street Parking is paid meters and it's hard to find a parking spot. The hotel with allow valet parking for $20.

Is this place 21+ only or can I bring my 20 year old sister and 18 year old cousin?

You can definitely bring your sister and cousin. The table next to us were a couple with 2 young children.

Is this place good for young kids under 3?

No, definitely not. More geared towards adults

Why is there a $5 reservation fee per person?

As it is mentioned on the booking app, Open Table, this fee exists because of the many last minute cancelations and no shows. However, this fee should be put towards the bill. I still do not understand why each person is a $5 fee instead of just one… Read more

Greeted by our very kind waiter, we were served the most delicious toasted bread, butter(s) and rock salt from La Boulangerie. As a film nut, of course I ordered the Cinema Paradiso, this is a very imaginative cocktail recipe, like a an Old Fashioned but with a movie theater twist, kindly served with a pinch of candy kettle-corn at our table by the mixologist herself; what a playful and tasty delight! For starters, we are ordered the Mini-French-Onion Grilled Cheese and Hamachi Crudo. Both absolutely delicious. The Hamachi Crudo Leche de Tigre sauce is beyond perfect. The balance of flavors between charriness of the bread and melted cheeses, and tangy onion soup dip...just wow. Then the steak! Accompanied by a delicious Châteauneuf-du-Pape, we shared between two, a perfectly cooked (medium rare of course, don't be basic) N.Y. Strip (au poivre sauce on the side) with au gratin, and it came with nice little on the vine roasted tomatoes and a little leafy salad...like I told Chef when he came to our table post meal: "INCROYABLE!". Every-Single-Bite!! But, aside every dish being perfect and the service being above and beyond, what literally brought me to tears was the dessert. I haven't had "floating islands" since my mom used to make it many, many moons ago (unfortunately ma is now at early dementia), and when I tasted my first spoonful here, I couldn't hold back the tears, memories flooded and complimented by the preceding meal which was perfect...too many feels. Merci Beaucoup! For a VERY special culinary experience to all at La Monique. Please don't change a thing. I rarely ever make the effort to write a review, but this is very much worth every second. We'll be coming back for sure. Feel like I just discovered fire.

This is completely unacceptable and feels like fraud. To make things worse, the food was completely average -- nothing special at all and definitely not worth the prices they charge. I've never experienced anything like this, even at the most basic places. This is beyond unprofessional and extremely disappointing. I would strongly advise others to double-check their receipts and statements after visiting this restaurant.

The ambiance is beautifully done, modern coastal. Perfect for a comfortable but elevated dinner. We started with the bread service, chili wontons, and gem lettuce. The bread service was my favorite, warm, soft, and the miso butter was divine. The chili wontons were also a standout, especially if you enjoy dim sum. They had great flavor and balance. The gem lettuce was fresh and simple, reminiscent of Jon & Vinny's in the best way. For entrees we had the butter shrimp and Scottish salmon, both really good, no complaints. But honestly the appetizers stole the show for me. Would definitely come back just to try more of the starters. Such a good spot.

It was a Saturday night and pretty empty, but we did go on the earlier side. Our server was also really friendly and attentive, definitely a highlight. The food just didn't hit for us. The bread service was disappointing and looked nothing like the photos we saw. Not sure if we got the wrong thing, but it wasn't good. The shrimp toast was decent but super heavy. The Caesar was not great, and no one mentioned it comes with whole anchovies on top. I'm fine with anchovy in the dressing, but the actual pieces were a lot. The chicken karaage was okay, again really heavy, but the sauce was the best part. We also tried the taco special which was just alright, nothing memorable. Overall, the vibe and service were good, but the food didn't live up to it. Probably wouldn't come back.

Food: Rice slushy had a strangely strong cinnamon-like taste to it that traditional rice punch doesn't have which was so overpowering, it made it difficult to go back for more sips. Oysters - good though small, enjoyed the kelp mignonette Korean Aguachile - Delicate tilefish completely overwhelmed by cold kimchi broth with actual icy slush in it and small amounts of fish Steak Tartare - The hot stone bowl seemed to defeat the purpose of a tartare, as it cooked the steak once mixed. The perilla leaves were also cut in large strips relative to the beef. Chilled Acorn Noodle - The perilla oil was nonexistent in flavor though the dish didn't need it and was good without. Overall, portions were small for the price and dishes weren't well-executed so despite being excited for more Korean options in West LA, I'd much rather make the drive to Koreatown for better portions, prices, and flavors.

The "Misfit" Moment: The service can be a tiny bit slow when it's "rammed," and there's a 4% kitchen fee that feels a bit unnecessary, but they make up for it with those complimentary sea salt chocolate chip cookies at the end.
