MULBERRY - LOTS OF HYPE, LACKING REAL KOREAN FLAVOR AND -  EXPENSIVE I make my own reservations and pay my own bills when I dine out.  PROS: The patio is the place to dine, Service was excellent, two dishes were worth the visit CONS: The food lacks authentic Korean flavor, it's expensive, and there's no regular bar--only fancy organic alcohol with unfamiliar names. PROTIP: Study the menu beforehand, eat on the Patio, order the Wngs and Short Rib and Try Son Nong Dan across the street. SUMMARY: Go to Koreatown and get better food for less I finally visited the much hyped Mulberry the other night, expecting a fantastic experience based on all the hype and social media.What I got was an overpriced meal on Sawtelle that watered down what should have been a showcase for excellent Korean food.  Mulberry is cramped and dark on the inside and excellent on the patio. There are some interesting tables inside near the back, but the Patio is where the action is, especially when the sun is out.It has shades of Hatchet Hall's ambiance and a great vibe. Service comes fast and is very good. They do know what they are doing from a service perspective. Drink orders arrive quickly, and food is served fairly fast. We knew what we wanted before going. Korean Pancake, Wings, Dumplings, Acorn Noodles and Short Ribs.  Korean Pancake - small and just ok flavor. The sauce was good, but for $17, you could get a giant, better tasting pancake almost anywhere else. Fried Chicken Wings - probably one of the two stars of the night--had a fantastic crust and were very plump and juicy. Sauce and pickles were excellent and you get two types of wings with each order, both were excellent.  Acorn Noodles - a very good mix of flavors, good nori, the hard-boiled egg (a surprise) was good--expensive for $22Steamed Dumplings - well made and cooked well, but the lackluster sauce served with them didn't help. A well-crafted dumpling that needs a much more flavorful sauce to accompany it.  Beef Short Ribs - The other star on the menu, along with the wings. Very tender and great taste. Use the salt! We ordered the extras which you don't have to do. Small piece for $49. It's a No Tip restaurant so you get the automatic 20% charge - which I did not mind. Pay the help. Our bill came to $200 for a meal that was probably worth $100.You can go to some of the AYCE Korean BBQ places and get better quality, more food and be happier. The hype for this place will die down. If you like Sawtelle go to Son Nong Dan across the street for an overall better experience and better pricing. read more

Pretty good meal overall!! The chicken wings had a really crisp exterior and a great crunch, but they did lean a little dry - but honestly felt like the trade off for getting them that crispy! The sauce helped bring some juiciness back and balanced it out. The bluefin tuna bibimbap was pretty enjoyable. The tuna tasted fresh and the textures worked well together, but the dish could have used a little more seasoning to make the flavors pop. The perilla was a great touch though. It added a slightly minty flavor that complemented the tuna without taking over the dish. The beef short rib was easily the standout. PERFECTLY cooked, incredibly tender, and seasoned just right. The richness of the meat paired so well with the lettuce wraps that it almost feels like they should automatically come with the dish. Service was good and everything came out smoothly. I've wanted to try this place for a while and finally convinced my husband to go with me. Cocktails were twists on classics, but with Asian/korean liquor. I got a pink lady which was tasty. The bartender recommended the hen of the woods rice cakes. I love rice cakes so this was a highlight. We also had the short ribs with the ssam/lettuce side. The short ribs came with a delicious tangy dipping sauce. We had wanted to get the wagyu burger but they were sold out. Apparently only make 8 a night. I will need to come back to try this. Instead, we tried the acorn noodles. The noodles were bouncy. I thought that there was too much seaweed with the dish tho and it was a bit salty. Trendy vibes with pretty pricey Korean food. Went for a weekend dinner. Had a reservation and was sat immediately. The restaurant was very busy and had pretty nice decor - could see people liking the spot for brunch vibes. Ordered their banana milk cocktail, an old fashioned, and Manhattan. The drinks were all very solid, not too sweet but not super boozy either. Ordered the following: - kimchi pancake (pretty solid, definitely on the thicker side) - acorn noodle (pretty good, can definitely taste the perilla oil) - tofu stew (your standard soon tofu soup) - beef short rib (a bit too fatty, a quarter of the dish was cut up fat) - hotteok (had a weird after taste and was not sweet at all) I was really disappointed with the hotteok, I've read others praising it but it wasn't sweet and had a bitter taste at the end of each bite. There was ice cream paired with it, but was not looking to mask the flavor of the hotteok. Additionally, although this a no-tipping establishment, there is a 20% "fee" on what you order. This money does not necessarily go to the wait staff. Although it's on the bottom of the menu, it's pretty poor form - prices of the dishes should be fully transparent to the customer. Each dish's price should basically be 20% higher. Overall, the quality of the cocktails couldn't make up for the pricing of the food. There are plenty of Korean establishments in Koreatown with similar quality food at half the price. The hotteok was also a big miss. Unfortunately overhyped restaurants seem to be a trend in Sawtelle - will be giving this place a pass next time around. read more

I got the beef tofu soup, a bit different from the traditional one, still good - it was pricey compared to tofu soup at other places. My friend got the cream chicken broth and fresh noddles, no chicken just chicken broth. We also got the grapefruit sorbet and it was tart. Parking: street parking can be rough to find during peak dinner time on weekends but not bad early evening on weekdays Reservations: Limited availability on Resy makes it seem harder to get though we were able to make one. Tables looked available around 5pm though so walk-ins could be possible. Ambiance: Outside was nice and inside looked dimly lit and romantic. We were seated promptly and service was good. Food: Rice slushy had a strangely strong cinnamon-like taste to it that traditional rice punch doesn't have which was so overpowering, it made it difficult to go back for more sips. Oysters - good though small, enjoyed the kelp mignonette Korean Aguachile - Delicate tilefish completely overwhelmed by cold kimchi broth with actual icy slush in it and small amounts of fish Steak Tartare - The hot stone bowl seemed to defeat the purpose of a tartare, as it cooked the steak once mixed. The perilla leaves were also cut in large strips relative to the beef. Chilled Acorn Noodle - The perilla oil was nonexistent in flavor though the dish didn't need it and was good without. Overall, portions were small for the price and dishes weren't well-executed so despite being excited for more Korean options in West LA, I'd much rather make the drive to Koreatown for better portions, prices, and flavors. read more

Got to try a relatively new restaurant (opened Nov '25) in Sawtelle the other night, and it turned into a delightful dinner. The kitchen is led by Curtis Park, a former chef from the three-Michelin-starred Benu in San Francisco. The concept is to bring modern Korean bistro-style offerings to the Sawtelle district. The space has a laid-back vibe with a variety of seating options--bar, community table, and booths. There's also a covered outdoor seating area in the back. We tried a few items, but the highlights were the acorn noodles (salted cucumber, toasted nori, perilla oil) and the short rib. The noodles had a great chewy texture with a refreshing flavor profile. The beef short rib was incredibly tender, rich, and savory--definitely reinforcing my belief that meat closest to the bone tastes the best. The bluefin tuna bibimbap (trout roe, crisp vegetables, rice) tasted fresh, with a well-balanced ratio of ingredients that made it a solid dish. The fried chicken wings (half plain, half soy garlic + sweet chili sauce) are their highly rated Korean-American take on crispy wings. I'd come back just for these--they're easy to get hooked on. One dish we didn't order but will try next time is the soy-marinated blue prawns with pollock roe, barley rice, and dried seaweed. It sounded intriguing, but with a party of three... decisions, decisions. Parking in Sawtelle is tough, so be careful with street parking--some spots are residents-only. Absolutely LOVE this place. The Mulberry is a very warm and intimate place where you can enjoy modern Korean comfort food. All dishes are carefully crafted with its colorful details, and its simple but bold flavors prepared for you through an open kitchen. This place gets busy the minute they open their doors so make reservations prior. 1. Korean Aguachile: fresh tilefish sashimi with finely sliced cucumber and white floral decor simmered in ice cold kimchee broth they pour at the table. Soooo good. Must order. 2. Soy Marinade Blue Prawn: My favorite dish of the night. Huge raw blue prawns (head attached) marinaded with soy sauce. Served with barley rice topped with Ssam jang (type of bean paste sauce), and seaweed paper. You wrap all ingredients in the seaweed paper to make a hand roll. Soooooo delicious. Can't walk out without trying this. 3. Beef short ribs: good but nothing unique in its flavoring . Beef steak(medium rare and super tender) that's lightly marinaded/glazed (so not overly sweet) with kbbq/short rib sauce. This is one of their fan favorites so I suggest you try it.. 4. Chilled Acorn Noodles: chewy cOLD noodles made with acorn (just like the acorn jelly side dish we eat). The noodles are seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu-jang (Gochujang paste), crispy cucumber slices, loads of dried seaweed flakes, and perilla oil. And you just mix them all together. Sooo good and paired well with the short ribs. Incredible. 5. Bluefin tuna and trout Bibimbop: like a poke bowl but so much better. Rice at the bottom with loads of lettuce strips, bluefin tuna sashimi, radish slices, and cavier. Seasoned with Korean Cho-go-chu jang (Gochujang paste with a twist of vinegar). Very good as well. For drinks we tried the shikhye slush (shikhye is a Korean sweet rice drink dessert). They used a slushy shikhye base with warm cinnamon and ginger spices and pisco for a kick. Also tried the Sujinggwa manhattan which is sujunggwa (traditional Korean cinnamon ginger dessert tea served cold) and a single malt. This was fabulous. Overall fantastic experience. Beautiful interior and ambiance, paired with truly great service. I especially appreciated how attentive the staff was, they offered to replace plates before we even had to ask, which made the whole experience feel seamless and thoughttul. We ordered quite a variety marinated blue prawn, kimchi pancake, steamed dumplings, fried chicken, tofu soup, beef short rib, acorn noodles, beef tartare hot stone, and pork ribs. Almost everything was excellent. The only slight letdown was the pork ribs they were good, but not amazing, a bit on the fatty and sweeter side than expectea. The Mulberry is one of LA's extra trendy modern Korean food joints, and I was lucky enough to snag a coveted reservation. With a chic saloon vibe and very attentive service, you just know you're going to be in for a treat from the moment you enter. So did the food live up to the hype? Pretty much! Everything was presented beautifully, which, you know... the eyes eat first. But the range of flavors went from "nice" to "oh my gawd". My favorite, by far, was the short rib ("oh my gawd"). Perfectly tender, with a slight chew, and a very subtle sweetness that elevated the meat. I'm drooling just thinking about it. My table was having a hard time being polite over that last bite, but I was lucky enough to snag it because we all ate too much, and I was willing to go over that edge. Other standouts included the steak tartare bibimbap (don't mix the meat in), the exceptionally crisp and savory Korean fried chicken, the puchy and texturally divine kimchi pancake, and the acorn noodles with its refreshing, umami and heat union. Also, the cheesecake was so creamy and kind of blew my mind. Definitely my favorite dessert. The hotteok was crispy and tasty but not as memorable in this case (more filling would make a difference). The virgin sikhe slushie was also incredibly refreshing. While I enjoyed everything I ate, I'd focus on these favorites for my next visit. The cherry on top though was our amazing server! I was so excited when I finally got a dinner reservation at The Mulberry on Sawtelle It's at the very end in a couple blocks further than the main row of restaurants but this new gym in the heart of this amazing Asian culinary neighborhood, is such a great spot for an intimate meal with friends or date night Everything we ordered was a complete 10 out of 10.. from presentation, flavor, and quality of ingredients. For me the stellar items for the short rib main dish, the corn noodles and the most surprising dish marinated prawn starter. It was my friend's birthday and so I arranged for them to surprise her with one of their desserts in a candle which was such a nice touch to our meal. Delicious menu and beautiful ambiance in this restaurant. A few flaws: The inside of the restaurant was too hot for the night that we had the heatwave and it seemed like there was no AC on. So I'd book outdoor seatings next time to avoid the stuffiness inside. They said they were fully booked on a Thursday night so we sat at the bar but there was a table for 2 empty the WHOLE TIME we were there. Maybe they needed to do better with managing tables and bookings? Food highlights were the acorn noodles and the beef tartar bibimbap. Both were delicious and cooked perfectly (10/10). The Caesar's salad has very hard to chew pieces of rice in it which threw me off. The dumplings were also pretty good but I've def had better ones elsewhere. What an amazing experience at The Mulberry. I'll be the first to admit that Korean fine dining usually isn't my go to for the Korean experience. Mainly because Korean food is predominately street food. But wow did Mulberry knock my socks off. We started off with the kimchi pancake and the fluffy egg. Immaculate. The flavors and the textures of the two dishes were phenomenal. For the mains we had the spicy black cod as well as the short rib. The cod was a nice homage to braised cod which is typically a stew. Slight heat but on the sweet side as well. The steak was cooked to perfection. I'm assuming it was sous vide and then finished off on the grill. The glaze they had on the steak was sweet and savory. Perfection. For dessert we had the sorbet and the hotteok. Both desserts made for an amazing end to an amazing meal. If you decide to stop by, definitely try to book a reservation a few days in advance. We came right when it opened and got extremely lucky and was able to get a table. The staff were amazing and the owner of the restaurant made his rounds to all his guests that evening. He made sure everything was perfect. read more

I came here for dinner because I heard lots of positive things. Unfortunately the food was mid. We got the oysters to start and these were probably the smallest oysters I have ever seen in my life. And for that price point? Absurd. Then we got the chilled acorn noodles. These were decent. We also got two mains: fried chicken and the short rib. The short rib had fantastic flavor but it was more fat than meat. Literally half of each piece was inedible because it was just fat. The fried chicken was probably my favorite dish. Where do I begin? The Mulberry is INCREDIBLE and needs to be added to your list of places to try immediately! We walked in on a Saturday night around 7pm and while we were estimated a 45-60 minute wait, it really only ended up being about 30 which was awesome! The decor inside is beautiful, and the vibes and ambiance were just perfect. We were seated at the bar, but on the end which was more of a low chef's table with bench seating and it was perfect. I honestly think I'd prefer that over the main seating or regular bar. We had a view of the kitchen and could see all the action, and had our own little private table feeling even though we were sitting at the bar. Truly everything we ordered was amazing. We started with the caesar salad which was one of the best I've had. We also got a side of the kimchi which was delicious. The kimchi pancake was really good, but compared to everything else, was the least exciting of what we ordered. The dumplings were perfect, and the steak tartare was amazing. I loved that the longer it was in the dish, the rice got crispy and the steak tartare almost cooked itself. It was DELICIOUS. The star of the show, however, was the short rib. This was truly one of the best things I've ever had. I will be dreaming about that dish and can't wait to come back! Overall 5 stars and absolutely perfect. I went to this place because my friends saw overhyped reels about it. I looked at the menu and omg the food sounds so ordinary. Kimchi pancakes, chicken wings, I could get these anywhere else. We booked from Resy and the booking was hard to get. I don't know why. Free parking could easily be found one block each way at the freeway or the school. Do not waste your $12 to park here. What I like is the nice, romantic and cute atmosphere but that's it. Server spilled radish water on my friend's shirt when took the dish away. My friend thought she'd come back with a towel or so but nothing. I was gonna give this place 3 stars but my friend said they deserve 2 stars. Now for the food: Aguachile 2/5. It is so tiny. It comes with 6 tiny pieces of fish (1x1in^2 max). Chilled Acorn Noodle 2/5. According to my friend who is from South Korea, the perilla oil is supposed to hit super strongly. But we couldn't taste the oil at all. My friend knew it was hard to find perilla oil so she was skeptical to begin with. But I went ahead and order so she shared with me. Steak tartare 1/5. Steak tartare is supposed to be raw. But when it comes in a hot stone to mix as bibimbap, the steak got cooked quickly and became well done the moment it touched the hot stone. No more steak tartare. Who designed this dish? Because it is just beef bibimbap at this point. We weren't supposed to mix it but it comes as a bibimbap. Rice tea slushy 1/5. Struggling to even make the reservation, it felt so satisfying finally able to try The Mulberry! We've been so intrigued knowing they're serving Korean fusion dishes. Still on soft opening, the menu selection was indeed bit limited but still decent list to choose from. The venue itself was more into classic elegant theme with covered patio by the side. Smaller group certainly worked better here knowing how new it's and obviously everyone's racing to try so it's busy even on weekdays. We had our reservation and still had to wait for roughly 10 minutes past our reservation time before we got seated. The server was fortunately friendly and accommodating. Just heads up, they're no-tipping policy but you'd be directly charged 18% on the bill. We tried their popular beef ribs along with souffle egg and got extra veggies and rice on the side just like how you typically went for kbbq (we knew this wasn't exactly same but don't judge us! LOL). The souffle egg was honestly okay to skip, nothing in particular to highlight and price was certainly steep for what you got. The ribs were must-try though, just like what everyone's raving about. It's balanced between lean meat and fat, cooked medium, serving tender and succulent beef slices that the picture didn't justify. Enjoying it with the salad side was surely perfect pairing. If you're into alcohol pairing and wanna go more Korean themed, you could try their soju and makgeolli selections. I've been trying to get a reservation here since it opened so I was excited to finally get to try it! The Mulberry is a cozy, intimate restaurant with limited seating. Great Korean-inspired dishes. My favorite was definitely the acorn noodle - loved the chewy texture of the noodle, and the perilla oil and seaweed gave the dish a clean, refreshing flavor. As people who grew up eating Korean food, the dishes at Mulberry are ostracizing. At exorbitant pricing, it tastes like the owners of this restaurant are targeting the wallets of west-side residents unfamiliar with "Asian" cuisine. Theres the obvious scam of charging +$4 for tofu soup in their tasting set when it isn't even $4 more than the other soup options. And $23 for 8 pieces of fried chicken? Really? The bibimbap was definitely the worst part of the meal. Unlike any bibimbap we've ever had before, a taste unlike home and one we never wanted to try again. It was flavorless, we were shocked to have to ask for sauce and what arrived was ambiguously seasoned soy sauce. The measly pieces of tuna barely lasted a few bites and were as good as AYCE sushi. Everything else was just... fine. A west side restaurant disguised as "Korean fine-dining" to attract guests located next to Sun Nong Dan... theres no way the facade will last for long. I'd rather they just stick to their caesar salads, fries and burgers and call it a day. Save your stomach and money, just eat real Korean food in Koreatown. read more

Disappointing Value and Small Portions: As a fellow Korean, I truly wanted to support this business, but I need to leave a genuine and honest review. My party ordered two spicy braised cods, the beef short ribs, acorn noodle salad, steamed dumplings, and two cocktails (the Banana Milk and Flower Sour). Food & Presentation: The portions here are incredibly small. The entrees looked and felt like the size of appetizers. While the food tasted okay, it was nothing special and lacked the depth you can easily find at any standard K-town restaurant. For example, the cod tasted different from a traditional preparation, but not in a spectacular or memorable way. The overall presentation was also very low-key and plain. Drinks: The cocktails were highly disappointing. The Banana Milk drink was served in a standard, 8-ounce water glass filled halfway with ice. Service: The waitress was not particularly friendly, though she was attentive about regularly refilling our water. However, our hotteok (sweet pancake) dessert took an eternity to arrive. After being told it would be out "soon," another 15 minutes passed. I had to ask again, and it took another 5 minutes to finally arrive. To her credit, the waitress did kindly remove it from our bill due to the long wait. Value & Service Fee: The restaurant claims to have a "no tip" policy, but they automatically add a mandatory 20% charge to your bill. It feels deceptive, as it is essentially a forced 20% tip reworded under a different name.We left the restaurant still feeling hungry after paying a $272 tab. Good variety of food including different proteins, veggies, noodles, rice, soups, desserts, and large drink menu. Dishes are relatively small. For our group of 4, we got 8 dishes and a dessert. This was slightly over-ordering for us, but we wanted to try so much. Kimchi pancake: this was okay. What made it good was the herbs and sauce. Could have gone without this one. Chicken wings: solid. Enjoyed it. Liked that half were original and half were like glazed and had sesame seeds. Comes with sauces. I believe we got 8 total pieces. The crunch was nice and not oily. Chicken noodle soup: this was a simple, clean bowl of noodles in a clear-ish broth. Came with chicken slices and wood ear mushroom. Can add gochujang. I wasn't wowed, personally but I appreciate the quality of ingredients. Comes with pickled radish. I wouldn't get again, personally. Beef tartar bowl: basically a bimbimbap. This was solid and substantial. The crispy rice that the stone pot creates is great, and adds good texture. Also comes with an egg yolk on top which looked like a good quality egg. Pork spare rib: tender and flavorful. This was good and went well with the bimbinbap. Came with a small side salad which was great. Beef: so good. Cooked perfectly. Melt in your mouth. Comes with the same salad as the pork spare rib, as well as extra sauce that it was marinated in. Ssam: veggie platter that the waitress recommended to eat with the beef. Comes with iceberg lettuce, perilla, endive, cucumber, and ssam dip. The ssam is so salty, so a little goes a long way. We could have gone without this, personally. But veggies were in general crisp and refreshing. Egg soufflé: sooooo puffy. I see this as a take on the typical steamed egg that you see at Korean restaurants. Flavorful. Solid. Each dish came with something paired with it like a sauce or white kimchi or pickled radish or jalapeno. Grapefruit nonalcoholic soda was refreshing and tasty. Hoettok: like a pancake filled with cinnamon and sugar, then pan fried. Came with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle. This was nice but the pancake needed to be filled more. It could be waaay better if it had like 25-50% more filling. Service: excellent. No complaints. Note the gratuity is automatically included. Check the fine print of the receipt/menu. Seating: indoor had bar seating, booths, tables. I think a party of 4 is optimal but I could see the accommodating 6 alright. Larger parties will be harder. There's also outside patio seating, which is where we sat. Ambiance: cozy, book-ish, low lights, intimate. Loved it. Overall: tbh the food is a 3. Very very mid. Like don't go in with high expectations for the food. But between the experience, service, ambiance, the whole package, I can give it a 4. Like, it's enjoyable and nothing was bad. Every dish came out suuuper fresh, like steaming hot. They bring out at a gradual pace too, so they'll clear dishes and then serve the next order. Such a fun & sexy new spot! If you can get a resy you must go. They are still in soft opening stages since they are only a month old but keep the bar open for walk ins. Drinks were the Negroni & which was unique - fresh and light. I would order this again. Also the Cabernet by the glass was solid & went well with the food. The food is a perfect balance between traditional Korean cuisine and toned down enough for all folks to enjoy. I loved walking in to see the crowded restaurant full of possible first timers. I've been thinking about the Korean aguachile nonstop. Never tasted anything like it. Absolute perfection. The other dishes we ordered, the steak tartar stone pot and acorn noodles were fine, nothing really stood out. Even though we waited a few minutes to mix the contents of the steak tartar bibimbop, all the meat just ended up cooking.. I really wasn't a fan of that. It felt like eating a normal ground beef bibimbop. The vibes were pretty and warm. I'd definitely like to come back next time to try the other dishes off the menu. Ps. I had really high hopes for the sujunggwa manhattan because I love sujungwa, but I was a little disappointed as the flavors were lacking. I was very excited to try this new Korean place in Sawtelle, we waited for about an hour on a Friday night and got a walk in. The highlight was the ambiance and moody feel. However, the food was extremely disappointing and the service was not so great. We talked to our waiter maybe one time before he disappeared for the rest of the night, and we were not checked on at all. The place needs to work out some kinks to run smoother. The food itself was very bland, tasteless, or was confusing. For example the crudo appetizer had pieces of seasoned ice that were far too big for the piece of fish, and the cod just tastes like gochujang and not very well balanced. read more

My friends and I had a delicious dinner here after managing to snag a reservation. It's very cozy inside and our server had great recommendations. We ordered - Crispy Kimchi Pancake: delicious, especially with the greens it comes with - Silken Tofu Stew: it wasn't spicy at all (I have 0 tolerance!) but still very flavorful - Stir-fried Hen of the Woods Mushroom: we felt there were too many rice cakes in comparison to the amount of mushrooms - Beef Short Rib: my favorite savory dish of the night! It comes with a savory dip and a spicy dip, and the meat was so tender and flavorful - Pear Sorbet: it comes with a delicious lemon olive oil sauce and was so unique and refreshing - Hotteok (Korean pancake): Warm and delicious with vanilla ice cream and caramel - definitely leave room for this! We also all enjoyed our drinks, especially the penicillin cocktail and the warm pear toddy! My friend's Mulberry tea was also very comforting. The Mulberry has listened to everything I have ever said about restaurants and taken the advice to heart--it's a fever dream of all of my favorite things about dining. From the incredible design of the space, to the variety and range of food offered, to the attention to detail, decor, and balance of flavors, textures, and so much more. Where to begin? We saw it's booked out for the full range on Resy so we planned to walk in and grab a seat at the bar and were successful! The four of us opted for the set menu and picked one of each from the starters and the mains. The Caesar salad was packed with flavor, the chicken wings were crispy and I love that you can choose how much of the sauce to add! The dumplings were so cute and plump too! As for the mains, it seems every dish was the star of the show. The tofu soup had so many rich and wonderful bites while also maintaining a light and refreshing broth! The crispy rice af the bottom of the stone bowl with the tartare really rounded out the dish. The fresh fish on greens on rice with gochujang beneath was such a delicious way to balance the dish, and wow they were extremely generous with the ikura on top! The beef with lettuce wraps were so light and not overpowering at all but each bite packed so much great flavor! I love the variety of leaves for different textures and flavors and everyone can choose how much sauce they use. The cod really stood out to me, as I'm in a cod phase really enjoying cod everywhere I go but I found the cod to be perfectly flaky and tender, with a great balance of flavor and textures. I keep saying that but each dish is really so thoughtful and executed very well! Finally, the pear ice cream at the end was just exquisite. Light, fresh, sweet, but "not too sweet"! The plates and decor are so cute, the staff is very sweet and charming, the idea and the menu work really well together, each time a dish was delivered you could tell the care that went into it and although they are new and are still working out some details operationally, everything worked so marvelously together. What reservation page am I going to need to stalk to get a table? It's clear The Mulberry is a rising star and will soon be known far and wide--I'm so glad we came by to see it and we will be celebrating their success as they win awards, garner more attention, and continue to innovate! read more

Fantastic new spot at the former Plan Check on Sawtelle. It's across the street from the also new Sun Nong Dan. All of a sudden we have awesome new school and old school Korean restaurants in Little Osaka! The Mulberry has been described as a modern Korean American bistro. They offer modern takes on classic Korean dishes. They have a Tasting Set where you can select 3 dishes from different sections of the menu for $49. I chose the crispy kimchi pancake, spicy silken tofu stew and the beef short rib. They were all good, my fave was the stew which had wagyu sirloin, Meiji tofu and a soft poached egg. You won't get the slew of banchan like you do at other Korean restaurants. However, they have a short selection of sides, including Napa cabbage kimchi in collaboration with the talented Perilla LA. It's a smallish restaurant and reservations can be tough to get. There are five seats at the bar for walk-ins if the restaurant is full. Service from the bar staff is great. Cocktails are fine too, I enjoyed the Baesuk White Negroni and the Burdock Penicillin. The hosts are very courteous as they handle dozens of folks in a cramped entryway. Seems like half the people in line across the street at Sun Nong Dan are folks that couldn't wait for a table here. Condolences to the couple that paid $20 ($7 if validated) for valet parking but couldn't get a seat. Definitely worth the effort to get in, the food and cocktails are excellent! read more

Food we ordered, in the ordered of what we liked most: - Beef short ribs were the highlight of the night--they were so juicy and cooked to a perfect medium-rare!! I just wish the portion were bigger because they were so GOOD - Chilled acorn noodle reminded me of cold soba noodles it was very flavorful and refreshing - Kimchi pancake had nicely crunchy edges, but the inner filling was a little thick, so it wasn't as crispy as the edge - Waygu burger a classic couldn't go wrong with this - French fries were a little too salty for me Drinks we ordered in the order we liked most: - Sikhye slushie tasted like a frozen chai - Banana milk tasted just like the banana milk from the Asian store--you couldn't even taste the alcohol, which is so dangerous! - Baesuk white Negroni--I was quite disappointed; it straight-up tasted like an Old Fashioned. Was hoping the prove the other negative reviews wrong but left disappointed (should have been a sign seeing no Asians at this restaurant when we went lol). The food was mediocre and really missed the mark to be labeled as Korean cuisine, totally lacked the flavor you'd expect from any Korean dish. We got the Korean aguachile ("kimchi broth" had no kimchi flavor), mulberry caesar salad (average), tuna bibimbap (very light flavors, the "white cabbage kimchi" it came with tasted like it was only marinated for two minutes), tofu stew (recommended by our waiter but you can get a better one at literally any other korean restaurant probably), and the acorn noodle (too much seaweed, not enough sauce, and only half an egg?). Don't get me wrong, the restaurant is beautiful but if you're thinking of making the drive over for the food, should reconsider. Definitely a place you go just for the vibes. I tried booking a reservation online a month or so ago when Mulberry first opened, but was shocked when I saw that it was booked way out. So I decided to walk in and book our reservation instead since I live in the neighborhood. Decor was intimate, great date spot. We were seated outside on the patio, and we came hungry, so we basically ordered a bunch of food on the menu with 1 order of the Tasting Set (I forget which were part of the Tasting Set) and a couple extra mains. My husband had a couple of comments: - He wished they didn't space out the dishes; it took a bit longer wait between dishes. He wanted all the mains to come out together.
