We had a cider and a glass of rose - both perfectly ok, but nothing special (Bellingham dry cider, San Marzano Tramari rose). We had two salads: the Italian chopped salad, which was delicious, and a daily special salad (a watermelon salad) which was bland (basically feta chunks, lots of arugula, and chunks of watermelon which was curiously lacking in flavor). The staff was friendly and helpful, unobtrusive but available. The net of it - a wonderful atmosphere, a choice of things to drink, and one great salad, one bland salad ... I'd go back - it's only a block from the Mount Baker Theater where we went for a live music performance -- but I'd choose what to order carefully. read more

Most of the food I've eaten here has been amazing! Love the sourdough with burrata and truffle honey! Didn't love the artichoke dip as it really didn't have any artichoke flavor. Service was ok, took a long time to be seated even though we had reservations. To be fair we did book the dining room, but opted to be seated outside because the weather was nice. While on jury duty, ran into an old neighbor (!) Also on jury duty. Both of us unfamiliar with the downtown area. In search of a warm, safe place to have a bite,we stumbled upon Bar Cicotti . Officially it's a wine and coffee bar but on Their menu we found some pasta dishes, sandwiches and even soup. Asher was our charming waiter. Even though we ultimately only ordered one sandwich to share and coffees, he treated us regally. It was so quaint and cozy.. so many details in the decorations. We always love our time at Bar Cicotti, and last night was particularly wonderful. It's always easy to rave about wonderful food, yet often it is the serving staff who make an experience what it is. Victoria, Meg and Asher--in order of appearance--were incredible! My guy has some physical challenges. With hardly a word, Victoria set about hoisting (heavy) chairs to ensure his comfort. It would have been easy to send us to that particular table where the chairs were, but the original one she chose for us had lovely greenery (Ginko Biloba tree!) and pleasant ambience, so she truly went above and beyond. Meg materialized next, and we started peppering her with questions. She confessed she was new--and she was determined to help us and gave us wonderful advice, as did Asher who was helpful to us in a special way as well. When we ordered the linguine al limone, he apologized that they had served the last helping. As we were reconsidering our options, he jetted to the kitchen and returned. "If you don't mind waiting thirty minutes..." he said. We did and, as it turned out, he knew this would be of some cost to him as he was delayed being able to clock out which he had been eager to do. He also did us a second special kindness. So we could have eaten porridge with sticks in it--the staff made our evening! And fortunately, we had much, much better than porridge and sticks! We, though only two, sampled a huge number of dishes--each five stars and beyond: Italian deviled eggs; stuffed mushrooms with pesto and a lovely, flavorful arugula salad; the aforementioned linguine al limone which was to die for; margherita flatbread which was to my liking--not too much of anything, but perfect amount for maximal flavor; Italian roasted shrimp in olive oil and seasonings that was so delicious that I asked for a spoon to get it all; and, lovely olive oil cake. My understanding is that Chef Aeyre was on. The staff clearly loved and praised her. We were so fortunately to be the lucky recipients of her talents. The wines were lovely; the atmosphere too. Second impression-- lots of wine bottles to try. Ordered their meatball subs ($7) with an order of their apple pudding and a cannoli. The sandwich was delicious but my favorite would be the dessert. Will definitely have to go back for another cannoli and this time with a cup of their roasted coffee. Would also love to check out a few of their wine by the glass selection. My girlfriend and I came the other night for drinks and some small bites, and this adorable spot was just up our alley! This small spot in the Whatcom Museum building has been transformed into an upscale eatery, without the upscale price tag. They do carry nicer wines if you are looking for this as well, but they had a very nice selection of wines at each price point. The waitress (dark hair, very sweet) had good recommendations off of the menu and was very helpful. We got the formaggio platter with 3 large slabs of cheese, dark bread and some nuts and honey which paired well with the wine. I cannot wait to come back and try more of the menu! read more

Had the pleasure of trying several food choices here and all were absolutely delicious! My favorite was the meatball sandwich. It looked a bit small but it actually was super filling. Highly recommend! I also tried the deviled eggs and a cannoli and both were very tasty. I'm definitely excited to go back and try more food items, especially their coffee! The place is a bit tight. It's more of a quick bite vibe than a dinner sit down. Only disappointment was when I walked in I stood at the door for a minute confused as to where to pick up an order. As you walk in there is a sign to wait to be seated, so I waited. After a minute of realizing I wasn't getting acknowledged I had to ask where to pick up my food even though there were 2 gentleman standing behind the counter that clearly saw me. Their were also 2 gals yet they were exceptionally attentive and sweet. No complaints there! Stopped in for a quick lunch before we hit the border to head home. This place is truly a hidden gem next to / kind of in the same building as the Bellingham Museum. I had the gnocchietti (I've probably spelled it wrong) and it was absolute bliss. The serving sizes were fairly large too, so I have lunch for the next day! Hubs had the Italian meatball sandwich & said it didn't disappoint. The bun was crispy on the outside & soft and chewy on the inside. The Italian meatballs were spiced to perfection. I didn't have the best experience here. We were excited about certain dishes, and each time we ordered them we got the okay. I would say our server came back no less than 4 times to say "I'm sorry but we don't have that". It wasn't an issue of selling out because it was a Tuesday and the place was relatively slow. Our server said they were out of things we wanted so often that I think it would have been way more appropriate to approach the table initially and just say "hey we don't have half the menu or specials." At least then we could have decided to stay or go elsewhere. We also saw our server sparingly, and never got a water refill even when she was there. I love Storia Cucina, so I am quite disappointed at this "sister" establishment being so lack luster in comparison. read more

This amazing little cafe is hidden inside the Lightcatcher building. It faces the courtyard next to the beautiful glass wall and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We came after visiting the FIG with our kiddos. No high chairs but we made do. Our daughter loved the Bombolini and running around the courtyard! The food was excellent - I would expect nothing less from the same owners as Storia Cucina. Pick from sandwiches, salads, pastas, meat and cheese platters, and other snacks. I love Bar Cicotti, I want it to thrive and be great. The menu and concept are phenomenal. However, the service has been pretty lackluster our last few times in. It can take a long time to be acknowledged when you walk in the door, even when it's slow. We've been mostly forgotten about on more than one occasion when we were interested in ordering more food/drinks, but eventually just kinda' gave up. We've even just left because no one ever came back to take our order. It can be disheartening with so many employees behind the counter and not many occupied tables--I'm not talking about a packed house. Maybe it's more of a self-service bar and I've got the concept wrong? Either way, a little confusing. I'd like to give you my money! :) read more

A cozy space created by the owner of Storia Cucina, where you can have a glass of wine, a cup of coffee and any number of small plates (variety of cheeses, etc); to pasta offerings. The risotto was light a creamy, and the rigatoni with a dollop of ricotta ( loved that bit of extra) was excellent. The caprese sandwich was very good as well. I want to start by saying our waiter was great and provided great service. We were told there was one cook in the kitchen who I am sure was working hard but obviously need some additional assistance. We were behind a group of 17 which were seated despite the cafe being a small establishment. We were told this is a newer restaurant so we hoping this review helps to set the cafe in the future up for success. We were excited to see this cute little cafe but were disappointed that our food took over two hours to come out on in addition to the fact that over half the menu was unavailable. We sat outside and were chilly and had to wait a while to get a heater working. We received our appetizer but were not impressed with a kinda strange single burrata that took about an hour to come out. We then were told our pasta that we ordered was out so they changed our order and brought it to us after 2 hours- a weird combination of two pastas covered in oil with old basil. The flavors were strange and not good. Our friend ordered pizza which was obviously pre-made, barely heated with burned toppings and quite small. We had to ask it to be reheated after it took over 2 hours to arrive. . We were offered a 10% discount for the inconveniences but still ended up paying $50 per person for a lacklustre meal. This is an expensive place. I give 2 stars for the waitstaff and the cute location of the cafe. read more
