I've never been to Atelier Crenn but I'm definitely planning on it now after coming here! Both the drinks and food were delicious and I loved the aesthetic of the place. The super tinted windows and vintage but chic furniture gave the vibes of speakeasy mixed with record store. The prices were also pretty reasonable, at par with other bars in the SF area. Tips are already baked into the menu prices which I love, so it's not as pricey as it seems. All of the drinks we ordered were beautiful and delicious. I love whiskey sours and espresso martinis so my favorite drinks were the Arlequin and the Gospel. The Arlequin had a perfectly smooth picturesque egg white foam tinted pink with huckleberries. It was a great balance of tart and sweet, and the berry notes complemented the light oak flavors of the scotch. The Gospel was like a classic espresso martini but with more complexities. The orange and ginger added floral notes and the drink was super smooth. The food was also amazing. We didn't order much since we were planning to eat dinner elsewhere, but I wish we ordered more. The stroop waffles were insanely good. It's a savory stroop waffle filled with tuna tartare that was deeply savory with sesame and chive flavor. The smoked crème fraiche emphasized the savoriness and added a richness. The yuzu glaze tied everything together with a light sweet and tart flavor. read more

Came here for a few rounds of drinks, partially, well ok, fine, yes, entirely because it has the name Crenn on the wall. I admit it whole-heartedly. But it's fine! The environment and mood was incredible, and probably worth the trek over alone. I loved that the place wasn't super crowded or super loud, and the vintage record listening bar decor was a pleasant backdrop to everything to come. The drinks themselves were tasty and a nice twist as well. The espresso martinis, in the pictures below, were great and arrived in wine glasses. Sure, why not? Maybe it was just a charmed night. Ambiance: The chairs are very wide and comfortable. The inside doesn't have much seating and you can only stay for 90 minutes per seating, but we didn't stay long at all. Noise levels are pretty low - perfect for a date night or a chance to catch up with friends. The bathroom is one stall and the hand soap smells really nice. They also have lotion for us dry handed people! Service: Offered zero water throughout the whole meal and drinks. By the time I was pretty thirsty and wanted water, it was near the time we wanted to leave and it started picking up, so getting the attention of someone to get water was challenging. Considering there's an automatic 20% service charge, the service is really lacking. Food/Drinks: It's like they have the drink shelves for show. All their drinks come pre-mixed and if you look carefully, they just pull it out of the fridge and pour the booze into it and shake it up. They pour it into a glass and add whatever oils and garnishes on top. It hardly feels "crafted" and doesn't warrant the $20+ price tag. They also heavily push their "signature drinks" maybe because they don't know how to make other cocktails? We asked to make a cucumber gimlet, since they have cucumber drinks, and that's when we realized their drinks were premade. Blush - refreshing, but a bit on the sweet side. My friend didn't finish it, but didn't want to ask for another, since they couldn't make the drink she wanted and didn't want another drink that was too sweet Mizuwari - The drink wasn't too whisky forward, but Japanese whiskys tend to be on the lighter side. Also a bit sweeter than I expected in a highball, but it was still pretty good Crispy Potato - Nothing more than a glorified tater tot. It tasted basically like any tater tot you would get in a freezer bag, air fried. It wasn't really greasy, so that was one in their favor. The sauce on the side was pretty good and the saving grace for the potatoes. 2.5/5 rating. Stroop Waffle - the waffle part was light and airy and fairly flavorless. The tuna mix inside was flavorful and fresh and paired well with the waffle. I enjoyed the presentation. 4/5 rating Lobster Rolls - The toast was dry and even the bearnaise sauce didn't save it. The actual lobster filling was pretty good, but the cut to the toast to stuff it was pretty shallow, but not terrible for the $32 price tag. And would have been nice if I had water to wash it down! 3/5 rating Overall super disappointing to pay $150 for 3 small bites and 2 drinks. I would not recommend the food here. Perhaps previous menus of different seasons were better, but this was disappointing for both of us. read more

Loved Bar Crenn! What a great atmosphere- very chic! Loved the music, the vibe, and the service. The drinks were amazing! The Gospel was the best espresso martini I've ever had with hints of orange. The food was pricey and small portions, but excellent! You pay more for the quality ingredients used in each dish. We enjoyed the caviar service -caviar and a green onion crème fraiche served with chips. The fried potatoes were wedges of crispy goodness and with creamy centers. It was like the best tater tot of your life served with a yummy sauce. The lobster rolls were to die for. Small but filling, and packed with lobster and flavor in the most delicious bun. My friend made reservations for my birthday on a Monday at Bar Crenn for 7pm, we arrived and were greeted by the host who sat us at the bar. Space is beautiful, low lights, wood paneling, velvet seats, a very relaxing but elegant design. Drinks: Mizuwari - good, this is prebatched and carbonated upon service, nice light fruity flavors with a light sparkling effervescence, whisky definitely more in the background, didn't pick up much floral in this one either but enjoyed it Arlequin - good, nice creamy foamy texture from the egg white, nice acidity, with subtle berry notes, and a whisper of scotch in the finish, a very unique take on a whisky sour Baxter - boozy and on the sweeter side, with a strong cognac flavor in the finish, fruity upfront, a slow sipper Food: Nori Rolls: great, loved the fresh Dungeness crab within the crispy nori shell almost like a wafer texture with just a little bit of rice to hold it together, grab was sweet with a subtle saltiness, chives added a burst of light delicate onion flavor, came with two small pieces per order Scallop Tacos: good, thin slices of raw scallops topped with mildly spiced xo sauce, on a very crispy chip like textured shell, the citrus added a burst of freshness, good but was expecting more of a traditional taco with a tortilla, this was a canape sized bite Pretzel Bread with Mornay sauce - pretzel i believe was a buckwheat base so a bit more dense than i was expecting, nice salty crust, mornay sauce was very tart and acidic with a thin runny texture, mustard forward as well, had higher hopes for this wouldn't recommend if you are expecting a classic pretzel Lobster Roll - served in a brioche bun that was a bit dense and lacked the airiness I was expecting, lobster was also a tad tough and chewy, loaded with bearnaise which was creamy and rich with a subtle saltiness but overpowered by the hot sauce served ontop Paris Breast: highlight of the night, really light airy choux with a slight crisp exterior filled with a delicious lightly sweetened vanilla cream, passionfruit orange and guava in the curd and filling was also excellent and made for an exciting end to the meal. Service was solid fairly attentive, plates and serviceware and water refilled and refreshed throughout. Food was well paced. Drinks took a little time to order but understandable given there were only two bartenders for the evening. Overall Bar Crenn was a little disappointing, other than dessert nothing was particularly note worthy. Pretty cool bar in the Marina district. I've never dined at Atelier Crenn before but am aware that this is their sister bar by Dominique Crenn. I booked a reservation for two people on a Saturday night at opening which wasn't difficult to snag. I made it a few days in advance. From beginning to end, service was very friendly and top notch. The ambiance is very cool and unique compared to other bars in SF. We ordered two rounds of drinks, and I forget exactly what the others were as I mainly only remember the Petal. It was a slight fizzy, yogurt based cocktail - simply delicious! The alcohol taste is very light as it's mostly covered by the yogurt taste. I could have had like ten of them lol if each cocktail wasn't almost $25. You're definitely paying for the name, atmosphere, and service which is fair. I think this is a good bar to bring friends who aren't based in the area! Next time, I'll have to try some of their small bites. read more

And yes, Bar Crenn and Atelier Crenn are in fact related. This was to my surprise since I have yet to dine at Atelier Crenn and knew very little of it, but our server told us about the whole back story. Also, I was very shocked at the location considering that right across the street is where people are getting sloshed. Inside is dimly light with tons of beautiful vinyl records displayed on the wall. Furniture is gorgeous - comfortable couches, standing tables, and a bar. My friend and I each ordered two rounds. You can taste the quality and fine details that went into preparing the cocktails. We both enjoyed the cocktails we chose. Amazing bar with delicious food and cocktails! We came here for a pop-up at the bar was having with a bar from Paris called Candelaria. They had a few of their house cocktails, but also some special cocktails inspired by the Paris bar. Honestly, all the cocktails we tried were so delicious. They were so unique and flavorful. There wasn't a single one that we disliked and I think we tried all of them. My favorite was the Patagonia which was a guava, fig leaf and pisco cocktail. We also tried all of the bites on the menu and loved them all. I think the standouts were the churros and the kampachi. We wished we could've stayed longer and ordered more food, but unfortunately, our time limit for our reservation was up so we had to leave. The drink I got was delicious and tasted like yogurt. It was very unique I've never had anything like it and I would get it again. For food I got the pretzel bread which came with cheese, and the ice cream sandwiches. The bread tasted off to me and the ice cream sandwiches had too strong of a flavor but you would like it if you love dark chocolate. It was super cute though and looked like a taco. This bar has been on my list for some time now and finally got a chance to go. Their menu is succinct with cocktails, wines, and beers. I want to say they also have spirits and sake. I went with a friend and we both got their sours, one of their classics and the other a variation on a sour with huckleberry! What made this place stand out was their service and atmosphere. I'm not particular to "the experience" but this felt natural, warm, and easy. They had old school rap in the background and records on the shelves. Bar area feels more casual, large living room like area has small tables and chairs, perfect for a date night. Drinks are so unique! I got one with yogurt and roses. It was excellent, I had to have another! We enjoyed the pretzel-bread and dip, so soft! Service is kind, prompt and very attentive! After a brief but delicious early dinner at Anchovy Bar, I decided to try and get a seat at Bar Crenn up Fillmore over in the Marina. The opaque black windows and unmarked facade looks similarly anonymous to its famous next door 3 Star Michelin restaurant, Atelier Crenn. Once I got to the door, I saw the fantastic remodeled interior and curved wooden backbar. The hostess seated me toward the end of the bar, a couple seats over from the center. There are nice arm chairs and corners for couples and groups near the front window. Marcos, the bartender was friendly and we chatted about cocktail bars and the bar program at Bar Crenn, which was innovated by Director of Mixology Florian Thireau, who has written two cocktail books and worked at Buddha Bar and The Cheval Blanc in Paris, Palmer & Co in Sydney, The Zetter TownHouse and The Peninsula in London. When I told him about the carbonated Margarita Ji Bol I had just had at the Daisy Margarita Bar in LA, Marcos recommended the Mizuwari, an interpretation of a Japanese Highball with elderflower, peach, olive oil, lemon, and Toki whisky. I was sublimely blended with a floral fruit essence reminiscent of champagne. Marcos said that the ingredients had to be clarified so that they blended into the carbonation without getting coagulated on the bubbles. An enjoyable and light drink. Having had a light dinner, I was still keen on ordering a choice appetizer. So I ordered the house-made pretzel with a side of mustard. The pretzel was extremely hot. I had to wait a bit before I could tear it apart. The server poured a light cheese fondue on the side of the mustard. It was tasty and baked with the quality you might get next door. For my second and final drink for the evening, I ordered their signature drink, the Gospel, an espresso martini containing salted coffee, orange, ginger, picon and St. George vodka. It had a burst of flavor between the ginger and orange atop the coffee elements and spirit. Creative approach to elevating an espresso martini. Everything about Bar Crenn exudes class but it is still approachable and somewhat casual which was not the case at Clemente Bar in NYC. The drinks were also superb. Le Comptoir Review (tasting menu): The vibes: They were immaculate. 10 course tasting menu at the bar. Limited seating. I think only ten seats are available each night. Perfect place for couples, not so much for larger groups. Tupac and Wutang along with French rappers playing in the background while you sit in the chicest bar. The vibe was just soo good! Service: The team was attentive, but in a chill/cool way. Not snotty at all. Thankful to experience this type of Michelin dining. I wasn't sure what we'd be walking into. I wasn't really sure about the menu. The information I received was that they wouldn't be accommodating any dietary restrictions and that it was a pescatarian menu. Thankfully, the hubs and I have no dietary restrictions :) We came with an open mind and blind trust that we were going to eat well. What could go wrong? Luckily for us, nothing :) I'm not going to bore you with all the courses, maybe just the hits: The first course was a banger. This is what set the tone of what was to come. They presented Gourgere and a Dungeness Crab roll. It was the Dungeness Crab roll for me!!! Wrapped on nori with caviar at each end! It was magnificent. The Tuna Tartare was absolutely beautifully plated and delicious. The Scallop was just drool worthy. The Hamachi is a dish that will start making you full. The Angolotti!! The bathroom was awesome too. Service: Incredible. It seems like everyone truly enjoys their jobs. They are super knowledgeable and I was able to learn a lot while drinking here. I always value when I learn something new when I'm eating out or at a top end bar. Drinks: I wish I just knew more. I had to do a lot of googling there. I didn't know what I was ordering half the time but it didn't really matter I was just trying things and almost everything was delicious. If it wasn't delicious it was because of my taste preference and the drink was still well made. Food: The only downside on my end is the food, and it was still INCREDIBLE. It is just super high priced for almost nothing (100% wanted more or was still hungry - a more simple super awesome bar option that fills you a little bit more would be great!), which is fine that's kind of what you get at a Michelin is the precision. The food was incredible - the scallop carpaccio was my personal favorite with the perfect hit of yuzu. Got the Greatest hits which I highly recommend - the beignet was so good: its sauce grabiche was exquisite, the Goughere had just the right amount of richness and creaminess, and the pickled pepper toast was unique with its anchovy flavor. All the cocktails were incredibly good - the Calabria was smooth, Tramonto's champagne wasn't overpowering, Arlequin's subtle yellow chartreuse, and the MIA's perfect balance of honey and aperol. We first order specially cocktails from their menu, and you can't go wrong.. As much as I love my whiskey cocktails, I wanted something more spirit forward and traditional. It was recommended I try their old fashioned.. And it was the cleanest old fashioned I've ever had. Just wow!! Food: At first I thought id leave hungry... Dishes seemed similar to that of a tasting menu... Just enough.. But seeing all the food go around, I think we almost ordered the entire menu. Fine, I may be exaggerating. Since my last visit in 2019, Bar Crenn underwent an interior makeover and earned its first Michelin star. Bar Crenn now mostly operates as a pre fixe experience at the bar, known as Le Comptoir Crenn. They offer two seatings per evening. The menu presented 8 pescatarian and dairy free dishes. We opted for the wine pairing as well, which made this experience even more expensive. We saw a guest received a non-alcoholic option which was comprised of zero-proof cocktails. They do take walk-ins to enjoy a light snacks and drinks at the lounge seating. The service was excellent. Friendly, not stuffy and very conversational. That is what they are aiming with the bar seating experience. They encourage conversation and questions during service. The dishes on our menu included: + Bleu Belle Farm tomato tar + Beet, caviar and seed cracker (this was one of my favorites. The beets were fermented and paired beautifully with the caviar and the wine) + Lobster mushroom bao bun +Crispy rice and poached uni + King Crab and Abalone XO sauce + Abalone Dry aged trout +Paradise spritz for dessert Chef Crenn's dedication to sustainably and ethically sourced ingredients means there is definitely of thought and consideration that goes into the menu. Overall, this was a lovely experience. The seamless service from the minute we walked through the very last dish was without a doubt 5-stars. Service is phenomenal at bar crenn! It's an elevated experience where they want to make sure you enjoy everything and it lives up to their highest standards. One of the best dirty martinis I have had. Crisp and cool with the perfect dirty ratio. The onion turnover was delicious. Any excuse to try Chef Crenn food! The pastry was flaky and buttery with a rich onion flavor balanced with a light perfectly ripe apple. Highly recommend making a reservation because it is small and intimate. read more

Very casual environment. Decent service, attentive wait staff. Extremely uninviting environment; noted quite a lot of judgement when walking in (my husband and I dressed up for the occasion!) very small room, oddly limited menu. If you know you want a specific drink and you only want max two drinks, ok. The space is absolutely tiny, very cold (door was open majority of time we were there, in February). We were not informed we were on a timer from entering and as I was about to order a third cocktail we were handed the check. It felt as though we were kicked out when we had ordered $300+ tab and were keeping to ourselves when others were DEFINITELY there before and after us. We will not be returning and likely will cross Atelier Crenn off our list too if this is any reflection. read more

A thoroughly disappointing meal from one of SF's most lauded chefs, Bar Crenn failed to dazzle us or impress on any level. There were a few good elements but it seldom came together on any dish. Flavours were lacking. We love tapas and bar food and Izakaya cuisine - but this had little to recommend. How do you make such a dull flavourless tuna tartar ? We tried it all and it failed. So happy with the decision to go here tonight! I was alone and lucked out in getting a seat at the bar. The aesthetic is very inviting and many well dressed people in the bar. The drinks ...Haro and Bowery were exceptional. Then had a wonderful Tuna Tartare and Pretzel Bites ...and splurged on the caviar. Finished with banana waffle and a splendid 1994 Madeira. Staff was very professional and so attentive and just made for a nice evening. Well worth the visit. read more
