Salted cod with airy whipped potatoes
    Vivian Y.

If Paris had a secret bar hidden inside San Francisco, this would be it. Bar Crenn feels like a candlelit salon - intimate, old-world, and effortlessly elegant. And the service matches that energy perfectly: polished, warm, and present without hovering. And don't skip the cocktails. They're a core part of the experience. Their version of an Espresso Martini was my favorite of the night... and I'm not even a coffee drinker. Foodwise, everything was paced beautifully. We started with their playful "smoke break," a crunchy seaweed cigar stuffed with sweet Dungeness crab and caviar. The agnolotti was filled with ricotta and goat cheese, layered with Burgundy truffle and mushroom, and tied together with an aromatic onion porcini consommé. Warm malted pretzel bread came next with a silky Mornay sauce topped with caviar and mustard for dipping. The brandade of salted cod with light, airy whipped potatoes disappeared in a few spoonfuls, and the dry-aged kampachi mosaic, paired with truffle purée and finished with uni béarnaise and more truffle, was one of those bites you pause for. The highlight was the two-part course: matsutake chawanmushi with crab dashi and browned butter, paired with unbelievably tender abalone finished with a sauce made from its own liver. Closing: Bar Crenn isn't about big portions or spectacle. It's about intention, atmosphere, and a rare level of refinement that still feels welcoming. If you're looking for a special night that feels transportive from the moment you sit down, this is absolutely worth the reservation. 5 stars.

My friend made reservations for my birthday on a Monday at Bar Crenn for 7pm, we arrived and were greeted by the host who sat us at the bar. Space is beautiful, low lights, wood paneling, velvet seats, a very relaxing but elegant design. Drinks: Mizuwari - good, this is prebatched and carbonated upon service, nice light fruity flavors with a light sparkling effervescence, whisky definitely more in the background, didn't pick up much floral in this one either but enjoyed it Arlequin - good, nice creamy foamy texture from the egg white, nice acidity, with subtle berry notes, and a whisper of scotch in the finish, a very unique take on a whisky sour Baxter - boozy and on the sweeter side, with a strong cognac flavor in the finish, fruity upfront, a slow sipper Food: Nori Rolls: great, loved the fresh Dungeness crab within the crispy nori shell almost like a wafer texture with just a little bit of rice to hold it together, grab was sweet with a subtle saltiness, chives added a burst of light delicate onion flavor, came with two small pieces per order Scallop Tacos: good, thin slices of raw scallops topped with mildly spiced xo sauce, on a very crispy chip like textured shell, the citrus added a burst of freshness, good but was expecting more of a traditional taco with a tortilla, this was a canape sized bite Pretzel Bread with Mornay sauce - pretzel i believe was a buckwheat base so a bit more dense than i was expecting, nice salty crust, mornay sauce was very tart and acidic with a thin runny texture, mustard forward as well, had higher hopes for this wouldn't recommend if you are expecting a classic pretzel Lobster Roll - served in a brioche bun that was a bit dense and lacked the airiness I was expecting, lobster was also a tad tough and chewy, loaded with bearnaise which was creamy and rich with a subtle saltiness but overpowered by the hot sauce served ontop Paris Breast: highlight of the night, really light airy choux with a slight crisp exterior filled with a delicious lightly sweetened vanilla cream, passionfruit orange and guava in the curd and filling was also excellent and made for an exciting end to the meal. Service was solid fairly attentive, plates and serviceware and water refilled and refreshed throughout. Food was well paced. Drinks took a little time to order but understandable given there were only two bartenders for the evening. Overall Bar Crenn was a little disappointing, other than dessert nothing was particularly note worthy. Cocktails were good but not outstanding, small bites were pretty hit or miss with small portion sizes. Glad i got to try this spot but not likely to return.

Pretty cool bar in the Marina district. I've never dined at Atelier Crenn before but am aware that this is their sister bar by Dominique Crenn. I booked a reservation for two people on a Saturday night at opening which wasn't difficult to snag. I made it a few days in advance. From beginning to end, service was very friendly and top notch. The ambiance is very cool and unique compared to other bars in SF. We ordered two rounds of drinks, and I forget exactly what the others were as I mainly only remember the Petal. It was a slight fizzy, yogurt based cocktail - simply delicious! The alcohol taste is very light as it's mostly covered by the yogurt taste. I could have had like ten of them lol if each cocktail wasn't almost $25. You're definitely paying for the name, atmosphere, and service which is fair. I think this is a good bar to bring friends who aren't based in the area! Next time, I'll have to try some of their small bites.

Stumbled in here while walking around the Marina area because 1. The name made me wonder if it was connected to Atelier Crenn and 2. it was too early to go get wasted at the bars and dance like no ones watching. Luckily, we were seated without reservations. And yes, Bar Crenn and Atelier Crenn are in fact related. This was to my surprise since I have yet to dine at Atelier Crenn and knew very little of it, but our server told us about the whole back story. Also, I was very shocked at the location considering that right across the street is where people are getting sloshed. Inside is dimly light with tons of beautiful vinyl records displayed on the wall. Furniture is gorgeous - comfortable couches, standing tables, and a bar. My friend and I each ordered two rounds. You can taste the quality and fine details that went into preparing the cocktails. We both enjoyed the cocktails we chose. No food was ordered since we had just eaten before stumbling inside, but I am definitely coming back to check food out and try more cocktails!

Amazing bar with delicious food and cocktails! We came here for a pop-up at the bar was having with a bar from Paris called Candelaria. They had a few of their house cocktails, but also some special cocktails inspired by the Paris bar. Honestly, all the cocktails we tried were so delicious. They were so unique and flavorful. There wasn't a single one that we disliked and I think we tried all of them. My favorite was the Patagonia which was a guava, fig leaf and pisco cocktail. We also tried all of the bites on the menu and loved them all. I think the standouts were the churros and the kampachi. We wished we could've stayed longer and ordered more food, but unfortunately, our time limit for our reservation was up so we had to leave. I had such a lovely experience and I can't wait to come back here.

I went here exactly a year ago. It was the best bar we have been to in San Francisco! Honestly the drinks a 10, the food a 10, the vibes and service a 10. There was many interesting and special dishes, that vegetarians could enjoy too! I'm dying to come back!

This is a super cool and unique bar. The ambiance is so aesthetic and the music played was all good too. It's very picturesque and even the bathroom looks cool. The drink I got was delicious and tasted like yogurt. It was very unique I've never had anything like it and I would get it again. For food I got the pretzel bread which came with cheese, and the ice cream sandwiches. The bread tasted off to me and the ice cream sandwiches had too strong of a flavor but you would like it if you love dark chocolate. It was super cute though and looked like a taco. Bar crenn is great drinks wise and I'd come back for that but not sure I'd come back for the food. We made a reservation here on a Saturday and it fills up pretty fast. The service here was also amazing.

The one on the left (yellow) is their classic sour and the one on the right (pink) is their signature sour with huckleberry

This bar has been on my list for some time now and finally got a chance to go. Their menu is succinct with cocktails, wines, and beers. I want to say they also have spirits and sake. I went with a friend and we both got their sours, one of their classics and the other a variation on a sour with huckleberry! What made this place stand out was their service and atmosphere. I'm not particular to "the experience" but this felt natural, warm, and easy. They had old school rap in the background and records on the shelves. My friend accidentally spilled his cocktail and without hesitation or request, they made a new one for him. That was very notable.

Stopped by Bar Crenn for a quick drink before dinner. The vibes are chill, intimate and classy. Sat at the bar and was so impressed by the bartenders. They were friendly, attentive, and clearly masters of their craft. The cocktails were wonderful and the small bites were just as delicious. Perfect spot for a relaxed drink with friends or a low-key date night. Can't wait to come back for the full dinner experience next time!

Found our new FAVORITE BAR in SF! Upscale, classy ambiance. Everyone comes dressed up here. Bar area feels more casual, large living room like area has small tables and chairs, perfect for a date night. Drinks are so unique! I got one with yogurt and roses. It was excellent, I had to have another! We enjoyed the pretzel-bread and dip, so soft! Service is kind, prompt and very attentive! They let you know 10 minutes before the end of your reservation time to help wrap things up. Note: Reservations get you 70 minutes here. A bit tucked away location, have to pay attention to the sign on the door when looking for this bar. Can't wait to come back here the next I'm in the city! :)

Truly a 5 star experience and my favorite bar in SF. Easy to get reservations online. All 4 cocktails we tried were great and they do an amazing job on choosing which ingredients pair well with one another. The apps were good too, nothing stood out, but it was nice to try. The service was great, bartenders and servers were all super attentive.

    Gentleman ($21), Orangeade ($16)

Date: Friday, April 25th, 2015 Time: 9:15pm Party of: 2 Reservation Made: via Tock about 2 weeks prior *Gentleman ($21) *Orangeade ($16) *Crispy Nori King Crab Roll ($65) *Manhattan ($21) *SF Employer Mandate: 3% ($3.69) After dinner, a friend and I dropped by for drinks. We had a rezzie so no real wait. They put us at a table for two by the window. I believe my first drink was the gentleman. I honestly don't remember much about the beverage, but from the looks of it, I'm guessing it's a play on a whiskey sour? I do recall my 2nd drink which was a rye Manhattan. Nicely balanced. Even though we had just had dinner, we decided to try the Crispy King Crab Rolls - Nori, Wasabi, Osciètre Caviar. For the price, I thought this bite would blow me away. Don't get me wrong, the ingredients were good, but they didn't complement each other. It also wasn't particularly crabby or caviary. I think the seaweed may have overpowered everything. Our server was great. Friendly and attentive. He even helped me decide on my second drink. If I'm are feeling fancy, I wouldn't mind coming back for a round of cocktails REVIEW #3758

Popped by after dinner next door at Atelier Crenn. Loved the vibe, the music and the discussion of the drinks with the bartender. It gives expensive speakeasy vibes with the colors and textures but the flavor of the drinks were top notch. I had a seasonal drink (one that featured gin & Campari) then moved on to the Baxter. It was delicious. Get that one!

I found myself searching for a bit more dimension in the dishes, which were certainly not bad, but nothing I would personally rave about. The menu wasn't super unique and ultimately, while the food was good, it didn't stand out to me amongst the hundreds of other Italian spots in San Francisco.
