Came here for my husband's special birthday and it was a great pick. Service: 5 star. Our server was amazing, great mix of professional and friendly. Made us feel like we were in a fancy restaurant even though it's in a strip mall - you forget that when you're in the restaurant. Ambiance: Dark decor, definitely not strip mall vibes, more toward fine dining. Small - so definitely make a reservation or get there really early. The food: The so-so: Brussel Sprouts from the happy hour menu - meh - I don't think I could get this again, it was heavy and lacked complexity in flavor. The good: Pork Belly Nachos - love the pork belly twist on this dish - my son really liked it. Avocado rice - I wish I would have ordered the regular rice. It's not that this wasn't good, but it was almost a side dish as opposed to a canvas for the other dishes. Gochujang Chicken Wings - These were good - pretty standard, sticky, heavy - but they are supposed to be overloaded with flavor - I would get this again. The amazing: Coconut Honey Walnut Prawns - this was the surprise winner for the day. Yes, it's pricy, but worth every cent. So light and crispy, flavorful - this is not the traditional Chinese restaurant Honey Walnut Prawns doused in mayo - NO, this is a masterpiece of plating and flavor and texture!!! Short Ribs on sizzling platter: This was on the menu for the day so I don't know what it was called, but it was Korean flavored - loved it - would order this again. Recommendation: Definitely go, lots of great options on the menu - take a stab in the dark - you'l probably land on something good, but definitely order the Coconut Prawns - you won't regret it! read more

Went on a whim and decided to try this "Asian Fusion" restaurant on the cozy block of the 5 corners in Edmonds. It was surprisingly good. We went in on a week night, and unfortunately did not have reservations so we had to sit on the bar top. Their cocktails were very good, which I would expect from a place that had a "date night" vibe. When our food arrived, we were met with amazing presentation, and very fair portion sizes. There was lots of flavor and spice in the food, and could not complain for food that I would consider elevated versions of their Asian cuisine counterparts. I would say pricewise, it seems fair with the type of food and presentation you are getting. Will definitely be coming back. read more

Wonderful little restaurant in Edmonds. Relaxing ambiance. Fresh flowers and real candles on every table. We even got a bowl of edamame as soon as we sat down. Our server was friendly and used our name- I think she knew because we'd had a reservation. They have a whole plant based menu, even a plant based dessert. We got the crispy tofu which was so uniquely crunchy and delicious that I forgot to get a picture until there was only one left. We also got the tofu poke nachos which was also incredibly unique and so so tasty! I've never had anything like poke nachos but wow! Had the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful restaurant for the first time. Small clean environment with excellent service and incredibly creative. Excellent food quality. We had the buffalo artichoke nuggets that were amazing. We also had a mushroom vegan bowl and the Bulgogi beef bowl, both of which were outstanding and definitely worth a repeat visit. What a fantastic neighborhood spot! I'm rarely in Edmonds since I've moved to the East side, but I was working in the area and looking for some food to grub! Lo and behold, my trusty Yelp app led me to Bar Dojo! From the outside it doesn't look like much, it's in a strip mall with a Thai and Mexican restaurant nearby. But you walk in and it can be a cool, intimate dinner spot; or a great place for a large party; or just swing by for happy hour; or grab a night cap. As usual, my hubs and I decided to grab a seat at the bar, which by the way is a full service bar. Although it was Seattle Restaurant Week, we opted to order off the regular menu and share the bites. We had the Sriracha wings (delicious, we would order this again), half order of dumplings (this was the least favorite of our order), broccolini (also delicious, but we could have used more of it for the price), coconut red curry (we should not have shared this, we should have gotten each our own), and since we hit HH, we got the edamame popcorn (a great bar grub). We were really disappointed in our last visit to Bar Dojo. My wife ordered her favorite, the Pork Belly Bowl. The recipe has changed, as it is now incredibly spicy and the ingredients did not seem to be what they were over the last few years. I was happy to see that Grandma's Braised Beef had returned to the menu after many months. Unfortunately, it was also very different from its original version and was also really spiced up. First time here for Seattle Restaurant Week tonight and it did not disappoint! I live over an hour away and it was worth the drive! The service right when you walk in the door was absolutely fantastic. Chef came to our table multiple times to make sure we were happy. You can tell he cares so much about the guests and puts love and passion into his food. Same with everyone else that works there. The wings and ahi poke nachos were out of this world! The ramen had the perfect amount of spice AND the homemade chili oil, you have to try it! Creme Brulee is my all time favorite, but adding lemongrass to it took it to a whole other level! FINALLY I was able to try this place that a co worker recommended not too long ago and I finally had the time to try it. First thing when arriving to the area, there is a parking lot but super limited on parking. First thing I notice that was great about Bar Dojo was the service here, customer service was excellent. Our server, he was friendly, super efficient and always checked up on us and made sure we were doing good. But let's get to the food review!! The menu had a lot of things that sounded delicious and their menu is a perfect size to choose what you want to eat. Also they have a happy hour menu that starts at 4pm. The appetizer we decided to try were the truffle fries,salt and pepper chicken wings and their calamari.The fries were delicious and crispy but I wasn't a big fan of the wings, they were too salty for salt and pepper wings but the texture of the wings was crispy and the inside was cooked perfectly because the meat was tender and not dry at all. On the other hand, the calamari was the big hit out of the three appetizer we ordered, the calamari tasted super fresh and the batter was crispy and had perfect flavor. For our entree dish, my girlfriend ordered the Garlic Shrimp Bowl and I decided to try their Dungeness Okonomiyaki Fried Rice, yes it's a little bit pricey but you get for what you pay for. There was plenty of crab meat in the fried rice and the sautéed mushrooms, carrots, edamame, bean sprouts and scallions ties everything together perfectly with drizzle of kewpie mayo and bonito flakes to top it off. The rice bowl was delicious too, the rice was buttery and there were parts that were crispy! Which who doesn't like crispy rice?! And the shrimps were a decent size too! Overall, Bar Dojo was delicious and I would come back to try their other selection too because they do a separate menu for their weekend special! Also portion at this restaurant is big!! My husband and family have always been fans of Bar Dojo. However, what makes it more special now is one of their servers, Chad Hofland. Chad used to work at Salt & Iron and we honestly frequented that restaurant regularly just to be served by Chad. He is by far, the best server we have ever known - we are big foodies. His customer service is impeccable and he remembers everything, what your likes and dislikes are down to what my particular drink is! He left S @ I and we lost touch for a while and lo and behold, I went to Bar Dojo for a business dinner and boom, there was Chad! Thank goodness, my hubby and I are back in "The Chad Zone" again and will make Bar Dojo a more frequent hang out. Food is always amazing and now they have a top notch sever on their staff. Food was delicious. The current menu is has a nice Mexican flavor with the Birria eggrolls with the "consommé" hit every flavor profile imaginable. Crunchy (I know texture not a flavor but sue me), savory, salty, sweet, rich, acid from the pickled shallots and lime, dang now I want another round. One of the best bites I have had this year. The bulgolgi fries were a surprise too. Next time I am buying beer to go with them because there is a lot of sodium with that dish. For dessert I had an exquisite guava cheese cake. They have a side, avocado rice that was so good I could have just eaten a plate of that. Chill ambience and flavorful food. For appetizers tried the chicken yakitori skewers and their complementary garlic edamame. The chicken was cooked well. For the main, had the miso salmon kasuzuki. Incredible flavors, worked very well together! The kabocha karoke it comes with does have bacon in it, as an FYI if you don't eat it. Finally, for dessert, we tried the red miso affogato, which was such a harmonious mix of flavors! It's red miso ice cream, with a excellent sesame brittle and French press. We like supporting our local restaurants in Edmonds. We haven't tried this one yet and since we were in the area we decided it was time to try it. We generally share our food with each other especially when we are trying a new place. Husband ordered a curry dish with chicken & noodles. I'm not much of a meat eater so I went with the Impossible Burger. I also got a specialty drink called The Empress - Empress Gin with lychee fruit & juice. Not only delicious, but they put an orchid in it! So it was delicious and pretty too! My Impossible Burger was good. The shoestring fries made it even better! Husband's curry was okay. It would have been better with rice. I'm Asian. Curry needs to be over rice. Some chili would have been nice too. I would go back. Not sure the husband would, but maybe next time he should ask for rice on the side and sriracha or Panang curry. read more

Tried Bar Dojo for SRW. I knew coming that it was a fusion restaurant. But wow, I wasn't ready for their take on the dishes. There's a lot of mixtures of Southeast dishes to East dishes and it was not a good fusion. Papaya salad was sweet; the chicken skewers weren't bad but it was just okay; the ramen was the kind of noodles you'd get in ramen packaging at the grocery store (the cheap kind) - it was dressed with random toppings and lot of it at that; the galbi rice dish was okay as well - too sweet for my liking, they drenched with too much sauce; the lemongrass creme brûlée tasted like regular creme brûlée - where was the lemongrass at?!!; the mochi tasted like store bought mochi. Always a favorite spot. Friendly service, small dining room, so it's always busy. Even on a Monday night it filled up. Make sure you have a reservation! Although we actually quite like sitting at the bar too. We always leave stuffed because we can never decide on just one dish, so we end up ordering 3-5 and can barely move when we're done, lol! I greatly appreciated the newer inflections of Mexican fusion into several dishes. The menu changes seasonally, and is on trend. I would say the one bad thing about that; is our favorite way of them making their Korean chicken wings is now gone. Still chicken wings, but prepared slightly different and we like them less now. But they do still have some of their more popular items, and one of our favorites - the spicy pork noodles. Overall we do really like this place, their cocktails are always good too. I was visiting from California. I must say that the menu was so amazing, that it was hard to decide what to order. We had the lychee cosmos, along with avocado salad, avocado rice, ahi tacos and beef ribs. I love the food so much, that I decided we should get a to go order for the next day. I took home the Brussels sprouts and the pork belly rice bowl. I can't wait to try them too! This place is a MUST! If I lived in Seattle, this would be my "go to" restaurant. After a few years and one other successful visit, I mistakenly decided to dine here for our wedding anniversary - I indicated this on my Opentable reservation. I was not expecting mention of it, but why ask if the information is not actionable - no mention of it? Knowing this place is on the pricey side, I decided to dine here expecting some level of service. We ordered three small plates to share - poke tacos, calamari, walnut prawns, and those were the highlights of the meal. After 40 minutes of enjoying the appetizers, our waiter takes our main order and that is when I am informed that my choice of black cod (off the fresh sheet) is not available. I've been to enough restaurants to know that is what the server's job is when you sit down aside from taking orders - to inform you what is not available. He seemed really blase about it - I was furious - I've been sitting here for 40+ minutes and NOW you tell me that the only thing I want to order is sold out. I hesitatingly selected the Thai papaya shrimp salad off the fresh sheet as a replacement. What I got was so unexpectedly disappointing - five grilled shrimp on top of a bowl full of bland bland bland shredded papaya with nary a hint of fish sauce, salt, nothing. This was seriously so bad that I sent it back and didn't order anything else, already the waiter and his laid back vibe, combined with this disappointment of a dish was enough. I told him exactly why I sent it back and he agreed. In retrospect, I could have ordered this dish for almost half the price from any Thai place and it have been 1000% better. It makes me angry they try to pass this dish off as Thai papaya salad (and he said a lot of customers like it) - it is an insult to Thai food. I should have stopped and asked for the bill but I ordered the guava cheesecake for dessert and it was ok - not the level of pastry I expect for a $12 dessert and this level of menu prices. It had too thick of a thick layer of graham crust and the guava was blended into the cheesecake but it had no guava flavor - just a pink round puck with a graham crust and odd caramel drizzle on it. Pink sweet dessert. My companions' pork noodle bowl was good, and beef noodle bowl was good, but the sneaky upcharge of "do you want avocado rice with that" should have came with the information that there is a $5 upcharge. The service was disappointing considering I'm paying to eat at a full service restaurant - our apps plates were done and should have been cleared well before our mains arrived. Either they were short staffed or ? I told a few friends we were coming here for our anniversary dinner and I don't look forward to informing them of the disappointing experience we had as I should have known better... Whatever the case, this will be the last time I dine here, no more chances. There are so many other places to eat without coming home sorely disappointed by the food and the service. read more

Bar Dojo is the type of restaurant that likes to leave its doors unlocked ten minutes before they open, and act 'surprised Pikachu' when people walk into their restaurant. My partner and I arrived to the restaurant ten minutes before opening, and politely stood outside until 4 PM assuming that the front door was locked. An elderly white woman got out of her car and barged into the restaurant and we both looked at each other confused, wondering if she would be told to wait. Again, wanting to be polite, we waited outside until two more people walked into the restaurant. It was 3:58 PM so we went inside, thinking we were good to go. We immediately felt that wasn't the case when a white gentleman with blue eyes and a goatee huffed past us to turn on the open sign, while mumbling "how can I help you". He didn't look at us once but his blatant frustration to our presence was SUPER off-putting. So three white people walk in no problem, but the second a Latino couple come in we are treated with annoyance? I told him I didn't like how his attitude was setting the tone for a bad meal and we left. I do not recommend this restaurant for how rude the staff is. Lock your doors if you don't want guests walking in, and don't be surprised that a couple who was trying to be polite and wait decide to walk in to the restaurant two minutes before open when you already let in three other guests. Went here with some friends for dinner the other weekend because it had one of the higher ratings on yelp for the restaurants in the area. We don't live nearby but it was where we could all centrally meet up for a meal. I ordered the Asian Pear cocktail to start. It was a well put together drink and I would definitely recommend if you like fruity and whiskey. It was sweet but not too sweet. It had a good balance of all the ingredients. You would probably drink a few and not get tired of it. For food, I got the Grandma's Braised Beef. I am a fan of Braised Beef noodle soup at other restaurants so I thought it would be an easy choice. Wrong, the broth was way too salty to enjoy. I guess you could say this soup is generally on the salty side but this was to another level. It was not unbearable but enough to make me not want to continue eating. If I were at home, I would have watered it down. The noodles were good, homemade chewy texture that you would expect. The rest of the table ordered various different dishes that looked good. After the meal, the consensus was that it was too high priced for the quality of the food and we were expecting better. If you are going on the weekend, they highly recommend reservations. When you walk in, it looks like a nice small place to eat where people are out on date night, nice family dinners or celebrations. They also have a somewhat medium sized parking lot with lots of spaces. If I am ever in the area and needing somewhere nice to eat, I would debate going here for a second time. read more

Artichoke "wings", two kinds of dumplings, avocado salad, spicy pork bowls - could have been a bit more spicy, but still wonderful. Our guest had the black cod / risotto and she loved it! If you like tequila, the Dragon Claw was a great way to start the meal! Service was excellent! For a smaller restaurant, is was not too noisy which they can sometimes be. The ceviche was tart and bright; the bisque was thick and delicious, the salmon was perfectly cooked and the risotto was very delicious! The dessert was meh.. raspberry cheesecake. The bulgogi fries were to die for!! So freaking good!! The pork belly ramen was meh....very little broth. The pork belly was tasty but the dish was just so so..I think it was the broth. It sounded good on the menu, but was a disaster in the bowl. The presentation was on-point and I was exited to eat it. Until I did. The main issue is that the ramen was imbalanced. Also, alot of the noodles were in clumps and I had to remove them from the broth. The fried karage immediately got soggy in the broth so I recommend that you take it out as soon as it gets to the table. The worst part of the ramen was the ridiculous amount of jalapeno peppers. At first glance, it appears that there are just a few on the top. But beneath the top are loads more. I picked out about 20 little slices with seeds. Because there were so many slices, the spice from the jalapenos took over. It was extremely hot and I could not taste anything else in the soup. In the end, it was inedible so I did not finish.
