this is a nice special occasion place. We tried several menu items and cocktails, plus dessert! and everything was delicious. The staff was super friendly.

Overall, I really enjoyed the food, ambience, and service here. We ordered the Beef Wellington and Striploin. The Wellington was very tender and tasted good. The Striploin could have been a bit more tender but the sauce that came with it was very tasty. We also had the fries which were good and the rapinin which was ok. The service was quick and fairly good. We also enjoyed a bottle of French red to go with dinner which was great. The prices are on the high end. The ambience was nice and overall, a nice change up from our usually go-to of french bistros when we visit Montreal.

The architecture is old world craftsmanship at its best The service is perfect with each custom crafted cocktail The bass heavy dj does detract from what could be a more elegant experience

This was one of the best dinners we had in Montreal!!! It's located in a hotel so when we went looking for it, we had totally missed it and had to walk back. We got the: 1) beef Wellington: pastry-wrapped filet mignon, mushroom duxelles, prosciutto, parsnip purée, asparagus, Quebec gel, green peppercorn sauce 2) chicken roulade: truffle potato pavé, king oyster mushroom, creamy sauce Périgueux Both meals were phenomenal!! The beef Wellington was the best I've ever had. The chicken roulade was so tender. Service was amazing! Vibes were on point. As the night progressed we noticed it getting progressively busier with a bouncer at the door LOLL with that being said, make a resy!

We actually ate at Bar George 3 times during our stay at Le Mount Stephen. We already had dinner reservations, but we also had bar bites as our room was being prepared and breakfast the next morning before we headed out to Quebec City. All of the food and drinks we had were very good but my favorite dish was the chicken roulade. It was seasoned well and plated beautifully. The bar and restaurant are warm and inviting. Service is relaxed and on the slow side, so if you are in a hurry you might want to mention that to your server. We enjoyed the slow paced meals since we weren't on a specific time line.

Beef Wellington

Food amazing and very delicious, I mostly recommend the truffle pasta and the beef Wellington. The service is good but it could be better but didn't had any issues with it, I loved the concept it made me feel like in the 1950 gangster movie. Overall a bit pricey but very good

Came here for a work event and it did not disappoint. It was crazy $$$$ but likely due to F1 week. But staff was amazing at what they did and the place is like walking back in time to a super boutique hotel. The food was great and the finishes inside are amazing if u like old school decor. This place would be perfect for those special occasions as it's done up properly.

There are so many good things I have to say about this place. I will start with; there is a reason it's always full and it's worth the wait. The architecture of the building is timeless and beautiful - go to the bar and the restaurant and if you can take a look at the hotel. The ambiance is warm and inviting BUT Canadians and everything in Montreal just BE that way naturally - especially compared to New York...so let's skip the obvious and move to the important part... The drinks and food are simply stated; IMPECCABLE. Starting with the oysters, super fresh and incredible. There is fresh scotch bonnet sauce that was one of the highlights of my meal. It has a high Scoville score and isn't for the faint of heart. It's punchy and bright - with a colorful island forward flavor. I was literally pouring it on everything I could. Try it if you love spice. It's so amazing. The only reason I think the chef hasn't bottled it is because he hasn't fallen prey to American capitalism. That sauce would FLY OFF OF SHELVES. It needs to be on hot ones as one of sauces that kicks you in the ass but still has amazing flavor. The truffle gnocchi was artfully made; equally light and pretty filling without being heavy. I suggest getting the bread with it so you can soak up all of the sauce. I literally struggled to maintain composure and not lick the sauce off of the plate. The BG salad was perfectly dressed. The octopus is fresh and unexpected and the crudo has a coconut forward refreshing flavor. You can tell there is a Mauritian influence in the food that brightens everything up and gives the meal this unique tropical edge. Onto dress code...there technically is not one - but this is for the cute girlies with love. Don't wear anything tight. I inhaled this food and Unfortunately for me, I wore a corset to dinner which I almost busted open. For much of the dinner I was really focused on not actually exploding because I didn't want the constriction to stop my enjoyment. I even had to lean back in my chair like a 19th century Victorian monarch who couldn't breathe following tight lacing...think Bridgerton meets Kirby. I learned my lesson and will definitely be back with more food appropriate attire next time. Something flowy perhaps. Maybe even a bib... Thank you chef Kevin and team for an amazing experience!

As I was at O'Hare airport in Chicago, someone overheard me talking about going to Montreal and the told me they had a blast and gave me places I needed to check out. Bar George was the first thing that came out of his mouth as I mentioned I love carefully crafted cocktails. He also mentioned the burger was amazing. Made it to my hotel around 6pm so I dropped my bags and freshened up a bit. I checked OpenTable and they didnt have reservations available until 9pm. It was 6:30 and I was hungry and thirsty so I figured I would just show up. Once my Uber made it in front of the building, I was greeted by a doorman as I exited the car. I looked up and was like wow as its an old mansion transformed into a hotel/restaurant. The inside is pretty impressive! I had to wait about 10-15 mins to get a bar seat and it was worth the wait. I of course went with a mezcal cocktail known as The Last one which includes tequila Patrón reposado, mezcal Del Maguey, cordial bleuts & eucalyptus and lime. A very good cocktail and I had a couple. Crowd here was very vibrant as I saw groups, couples and singles enjoying themselves here. I took the guy at the airport's advice and ordered the burger in which the bartender told me eh its ok lol! He was right...was a good burger but nothing special. Should have gotten the Beef Wellington. Place is kinda sexy...I like it!

Everything we tried was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, with portions that are just right. The beef and mushroom tartare was a standout--rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced--and the braised lamb cavatelli was simply outstanding. The lemon tiramisu for dessert was the best ive ever had. I found myself in the area around Square Victoria metro recently and knew that there was a Brit &…read moreChips in the area (but wasn't sure where) on McGill Avenue but since I knew that there was also a Five Guys in the area, I felt that if I didn't find Brit & Chips, I would just go to Five Guys if I found it. I did find both Five Guys and Brit & Chips (they are on opposite sides of the street) on McGill Avenue south of St Jacques. I had eaten at a Brit & Chips location before when they had a restaurant near Guy-Concordia metro (maybe about ~10 years ago) when I worked in a building which was close to the Green line so convenient to go there for lunch since it was less than 10 minutes away from my place of work at the time whereas for me to get to this location from where I worked would have taken about twice as long since it would have meant transferring from the green line to the orange line. On the day that I went to that location back then, I did remember that it wasn't that busy and I was the only customer. Unfortunately, that Brit & Chips restaurant did not survive. I did remember that the fish was very good so decided to go to this Brit & Chips since they had a lunch special. The staff were very friendly and greeted me in French and while I'm bilingual, I answered in English and the server replied to me in English. I was asked whether I was eating in or wanted something take out. I told the person that I was eating in and he told me that I could sit "anywhere" so I picked a seat in the back. I went to the washroom to wash my hands and then returned to my seat. I was asked whether I was ready to order and I mentioned that I was so the person motioned to the server and she asked me what I wanted. I asked her what I could get for their $19 lunch special and she told me that it was any of the 3 fish and chips dishes on the menu. I quickly looked at it and made my choice based on the server's recommendation (cod) and also decided to have a beer. The beer was brought immediately to my table and the food was put on my table a few minutes later (maybe 4 minutes later). The battered fish wasn't as good or prepared as well as I remember from the other location nor was it the best battered fish that I've had. The fries (chips) were good. The dipping sauce was also very good. What I didn't like about the way my battered fish was prepared was that when I cut into it, the hollow or "air pockets" of the fish/batter was dripping with oil. I know that the battered fish is deep fried so some oil is to be expected but I felt that it was "a lot" of oil that came out when I cut into my fish. The restaurant wasn't too busy at the time that I went (it wasn't empty nor was I the only customer there throughout my meal since as people left, others came in). I also didn't feel rushed. I showed up about 15 minutes before 2pm (their lunch special ends at 2pm... which I interpret to mean that the customer needs to enter and order before 2pm). In terms of whether I would return, I'm unsure since I'm rarely if ever at Square Victoria and for the orange line in downtown Montreal, I'm generally either at Place D'Armes or Bonaventure. If I exit Square Victoria metro, I would have no aversion to returning if I felt like fish & chips but would also just be as likely to try a different restaurant in the area. When downtown, I'm generally around the green line area. Yes, I know that in the underground city/tunnels you can get from McGill metro to Square Victoria metro without taking the metro but it is a very long walk indoors (from McGill metro station to Eaton Centre to the tunnel to Place Ville Maria to Central Station to the tunnel at Bonaventure station and a long walk indoors, one winds up in Square Victoria metro and exiting Square Victoria metro and going outside, walking a few blocks, less than 5 minutes or so away is Brit & Chips. Depending on the weather, if one didn't want to take the metro but was at McGill metro, it might be faster to just walk there directly above ground (outdoors) but then again with the traffic lights, it might not save that much time but would save a lot of walking (and perhaps going up a few flights of stairs since some escalators generally don't work). I would rate this place as 3.5 stars which I've rounded up to a 4 since I don't feel right lowering it to a 3.

The clientele is a cross section of the general population of Montreal. Young and old, families and couples. They have waiter service. The fish part of the "fish and chips"was not greasy or soggy. Which can often be the case if the oil is not hot enough. They have their own signature tartar sauce that comes with the meal. There are plenty of chips that come with the fish that are well seasoned and cooked to order. I didn't see any sitting in a stainless steel bin waiting to be delivered to the customer. The kitchen is partially open so you can see in and see what they're doing if that's your preference or if you're curious. As we were leaving, the cook was at one of the counters, eating his own food. We were already exploring the area so it seemed like a natural fit, so off we went. My general assessment of Else's is that it is more of a neighborhood spot than a destination eatery, which is totally fine because usually those are some of the best spots. Upon entry, we were greeted by a large open dining area with tables scattered throughout and a bar along one of the back walls. The decor is casual, with a dark color scheme to match the bar setting. Their drink menu is larger than their food menu, but despite that they have a nice variety. I didn't see any pattern with the food - there was a mix of plate sizes and types of cuisines. The pulled pork sliders looked good so I went with those; the dish came with two sliders and a side of coleslaw. I really enjoyed this - there was a generous helping of pork in each slider and the sauce had a nice tang to it. I'm normally not a fan of slaw since it is usually cream-based, but this one wasn't so it was quite refreshing and a good contrast to the pork. Service was great, the entire team was friendly. Overall, this was a really good find in Montreal - if you're looking for something low-key with solid food then this would be ideal.
