We had a great meal at Bar La Opera. The chicken fajitas and the steak milense were the standout dishes. It's very cool to see the old opera house and sit in a booth while you're eating. The waiters were very kind and helpful.

Decent, but pricey compared to other restaurants in the area. You get what you pay for though because it's absolutely stunning inside. I guess it's been around forever and Pancho Villa shot his pistol at the ceiling (lol) and the hole is still there. Compared to the food, the drinks are reasonably priced (around $110-$120 for cocktails). I had one of the daily specials which was the carne enchilada. Portion of meat was a bit skimpy but to be fair they were very generous with the tortillas and complimentary bread. Service was a little lacking. At one point a waiter banged into my chair and barely acknowledged it. Again, something I'd expect to adjust accordingly given that entrees are upwards of $300 pesos. It was a cool experience once but I wouldn't go back, just so many other places to explore and this one didn't stick out to me as being exceptional for the price.

I was part of a group of 20 and the service and food was excellent for our lunch. I had the best chicken molé I've ever had in my life. It was incredible. Their flan has a piece of chocolate with their name on it--such a classy touch! The flan was rich and decadent. I loved everything I ate!

Very European feel. If you teleported me here I'd probably guess I was in Vienna. The decor is old world and beautiful. I just popped by for a few drinks and to admire the inside. Definitely worth a visit. Service was quick and attentive but not overly friendly.

Food was very good. Service was good, although missed taking an order for one our party. The place is historic with a spot marked in the ceiling where Pancho Villa fired his pistol.

We came here for coffee and dessert after a nice meal in Cafe de Tacuba. The ambience is excellent, with gilded gold decorative ceiling. The price is very reasonable.

Everything about La Opera shouts the 1920s.

La Opera is a staple in Historico Centro. It's been here for decades. Close to the Palacio de Bellas Artes, it is always busy --especially on Sunday when most museums are free to Mexican nationals. We waited 20 minutes for a table, but once seated we were served promptly. I suspect most locals go here out of tradition. The interior probably hasn't changed much in the decades since it opened. The interior looks and feels like something out of the Roaring 20s. The food is nothing to write home about, so I won't. But it did feel good to honor the tradition of one of the oldest restaurants in Mexico City.

It is a very beautiful, yet cozy, place. The food is very good and the service is attentive. It can get quite busy and noisy (musicians), but that is Mexico City in general.

Great service, food, ambience and lovely music. Such an enjoyable experience and we felt far away from the outside hustle and bustle as if we were transported back in time and place. Another must stop like Cafe Tacuba.

I love the atmosphere of this place. It's almost like stepping back in time. I sat at the bar and we ordered just an appetizer but it was delicious and held us over til we got some tacos later. I ordered a mezcal and beer and it was priced very good. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to visit a piece of Mexican history and have a great drink.

    Tequila Sunrise. Mezcal. Tortilla chips.

A nice restaurant down the corner. Busy on Sunday. Service is pretty slow but reasonable. Gave us tortilla chips which we didn't order, 5 pesos. I mean it's super cheap. But still. Anyway the beans are delicious!

Delicious food, fantastic service, the best restaurant in our trip to Mexico City! It was a dream to go and sit in the best seat in the house, right under Pancho Villa's historical bullet hole! The service was so amazing and the food was honestly WOW! LOVED IT!

We love Mexico and really are falling in love with Mexico City. My wife found this place, as she always does, as a very unique and famous location in Central. We saddled up to the bar as usual, was greeted quickly, and had our first cocktails. The decor will take you back to the 1800's, the bar reminds me of any old western Brunswick bar you see in the western US. There was a mariachi band playing but not to distractive. The bathrooms were hidden and really kinda cool as well. All in all we had two house cocktails, a beer, a serving of bread/crackers and butter, and a plate of three huge chicken mole enchiladas with a side of beans... however considering this is a $$$ restaurant our bill with tip was $18... Another reason Mexico City kicks ass!!!

    The gilded interior.

Bland food with no taste. Served super fast and obviously heated. A terrible experience. We left the food basically untouched.

So Mexico City is a city that is truly a foodie's paradise-One can't throw a rock without hitting…read morea Michelin rated restaurant. Another thing this city has is very inexpensive spots you can eat, like pop ups or stands that serve such high quality food at very cheap prices. The third thing I found about this city is where this restaurant fits in-They have restaurants that are historic, that opened over 100 years ago-Cafe de Tacuba fits in that category, having opened in 1912. This restaurant is located in Centro Historico-just a few blocks from Zocalo. Its location is a very busy touristy part of Mexico City. When we arrived there was a 30 minute wait, but once we walked in it was obvious why as it was truly a work of art in there. The walls were adorned with amazing paintings and murals and interior designs elements that transported you back to Mexico in the 1950s and earlier. It was gorgeous. I don't want to call it a fancy place with all the stigma that sometimes represents but it was a fancy place without all the stuffiness of a fancy place. It was a very warm and welcoming place to dine at. There was a lady walking around with a platter full of conchas and churros that one could indulge in while waiting their main meal. I had to get a churro-it was so delicious. We also got chicken tortilla soup-it was so rich and tasty with the perfect blend of Mexican seasonings. I had a pretty good cafe con leche as well-you could really taste the high quality coffee beans they use in their coffees compared to what I'd been getting all trip in the streets. Now when you visit this restaurant and you could only try one dish-that dish begins and ends with Enchiladas Tacuba(355 pesos/$20.35) That's what I got and it was awesome. Its basically a chicken enchilada dish with a creamy spinach based sauce topped with cheese-flavor bomb to the fullest. 9.5/10 Item I wouldn't clarify this as an inexpensive meal compared to other places we visited in Mexico City, but I would call this place an incredible dining experience where one can just feel the importance of the building one is having this meal. Heck Diego Rivera had his wedding reception here in 1922. I for sure would recommend anyone who has the pleasure of visiting Mexico City, must add Cafe de Tacuba to their itinerary-it's such a rich experience.

The tamales and chilaquiles verdes con huevos y bistec were okay. The tamales were a little dry,…read morewhile the chilaquiles verdes con huevos y bistec were bland and could have used more seasoning. Customer service could be improved, as it was hard to get a hold of our waiter at times. All in all, worth visiting for the ambiance, but the food did not match the experience.
