Stopped by for lunch today and found the place very inviting with a cool vibe. We had the pulled pork, chicken and brisket with side of potato salad, coleslaw and smack and cheese, along with a massive slice of carrot cake. Team was friendly as well. Food was good, but had to ask for my cake 3x to get finally get it.

I had been wanting to try Bar-Q Food Truck for a while since I had seen them pop up locally and they were also in our sweet treats passport book. I finally caught them when they were parked at CoVa and decided to give them a try. One thing that stood out immediately was the ordering setup. Instead of ordering directly from the truck, everything is done through a kiosk/iPad ordering system set up in front. There wasn't a menu posted on the truck itself, so you have to walk up to the screen just to see what's available. It felt a little awkward because if someone is ordering you can't really browse the menu without standing there behind them. There also wasn't really any interaction with staff. The truck windows were closed and the ordering process is completely through the kiosk, so there wasn't an opportunity to ask questions about the food or the menu. For a small food truck, I personally enjoy a little more interaction with the people behind the food. I ended up ordering the beef brisket, which came sliced with sauce on the side along with a couple small containers of what appeared to be barbecue sauce and a pickle/onion relish. I had originally expected more of a traditional shredded barbecue style brisket, so that may have just been my assumption going in. Since I ordered it to go, I was also a little surprised that the bag didn't include napkins or utensils, which can be helpful when you're eating on the go. Overall, I'm glad I finally had the chance to try them, but I do wish there had been a bit more interaction and explanation of the menu items. With food trucks, the personal interaction and experience are often part of what makes them fun.

Highly recommend. I got the Ranchzilla burrito and OMG. One of the best things I've had the pleasure of eating in Richmond. I ordered mine without bacon and it was still to die for! Mac and cheese was cheesin! The chicken was smoked, buffalo sauce was mild, and the ranch was creamy and so good. I loved the restaurant, the decor, and the food. Customer service was a C-. Unfortunately this was my first time stopping in and I couldn't remember the type of chicken sandwich I wanted. They have machines (think Shake Shack) where you can place the order yourself. The big lady with the red Yaser Zeelool glasses (yes I'm calling you out) who worked the other register wasn't friendly and snapped at me because I was taking a minute to make sure I was ordering the right chicken sandwich. Nonetheless her attitude didn't stop me from ordering my food and recommending this place to friends and family. Seriously, support this business. Maybe she will be fired by the time you guys visit! Yes, I will be returning.

Bar-Q has been on my list for a while, so we finally stopped in for lunch around 12:30 the on a Sunday. First impression was the space. It's clean, open, and spacious. We ordered a little bit of everything. The brisket was the highlight for me. It was tender, flavorful, and honestly just as good as ZZQ in my opinion. That says a lot because ZZQ has been a local favorite for years. The brisket had great smoke and didn't need any sauce. I prefer tasting the meat on its own, and this definitely stood up without being drenched. The spare ribs were very good. The sausage was solid, not my favorite on the table because I don't enjoy sausage that's ground too fine on the inside but it had good snap and still enjoyable. The buffalo ranch fried chicken sandwich was surprisingly a strong contender for a BBQ spot. We also tried the burrito, which ended up being very good and massive. For sides, the collard greens were awesome and full of flavor. The cornbread was also excellent and paired perfectly with the meats. The potato salad was okay. It wasn't bad, it just didn't stand out compared to everything else. We were a little disappointed that the pork belly was not ready yet, especially since we were there at 12:30. I was looking forward to trying it. There also were no desserts on the menu that day, which felt like a bit of a missed opportunity after a heavy BBQ meal. The sauces were pretty good, but I didn't use much since I like to enjoy the natural flavor of the barbecue itself. Overall, it was a really solid experience. Great brisket, strong sides, and a comfortable space. I will definitely be back, especially to try the pork belly next time.

Pork belly and pulled pork platters

Amazing!! If you love good southern food you will for sure enjoy Bar-Q! The customer service was great, and the restaurant is set up like an out door cookout feel, with long tables for a family dinner or smaller tables for smaller groups. They also have a bar! I had the pork belly platter with Mac n cheese and collard greens, a coworker of mine had the pulled pork platter with candy yams and cornbread! I loved my platter everything was seasoned to perfection especially the collard greens, im really picky about two things: collard greens and Mac n cheese! And both didn't disappoint.

Delicious. Bar-Q(Bark) is a great spot for bbq and a beer! Family got the family platter with 3 meats and sides and we had plenty to pick from and even had some leftovers. Brisket, pulled pork and ribs made our plate and fried okra, Christmas beans and collard greens were our sides. Had to get a piece of cornbread to top it off. If I were to order again I would sub green beans for Christmas beans as there was just a bit too much nutmeg for me in the Beans. Great seating area and easy parking. It's one more spot you can add to get your BBQ fix.

Saw that Bar-Q's food truck would be at COVA Brewery & Coffeehouse over the weekend, and had to make an appearance! Haven't had them since they had their Norfolk location, but now they are just in Richmond and the food truck. First of all, major shoutout to Mamie and Alex working the truck. Both were incredibly friendly, quick, and excited about being their. Seriously, they made the whole ordering process a breeze, and helped me decide on what I wanted to eat. That kind of service honestly makes such a big difference! On to the food: I ordered the jalapeño cheddar sausage, smack & cheese, and green beans. I don't know what kind of magic is happening with those green beans, but they are hands down the best I've ever had. SO flavorful, and NOT the soggy, bland kind you find at most spots. The smack & cheese? Addictive. I could eat a bucket of it every single day. Wowwwwe. So creamy, cheesy, and full of that homestyle comfort food nostalgia but with a serious upgrade. Incredible. To top it off, Mamie and Alex threw in some wings, and they were crispy, juicy, and perfectly sauced. It honestly felt like I hit the jackpot with the food here. Left so full, and so satisfied. Now I'm absolutely planning a trip to check out their Richmond location because if the food and hospitality are this good from a truck, I can only imagine what it's like in their full restaurant! If you're in Norfolk and see that Bar-Q truck at COVA, do yourself a favor and order everything! Seriously.

Bar Que did not disappoint. The ribs fell off the bone. The Mac n cheese was creamy and tasty and the collard greens definitely hit the spot! Mamie & Sophia took care of me like two aunties. Stop on in and get you some, you'll be delighted!!!

Had a craving for brisket, sister and I decided to pop in for lunch. We may have been the first customers of the day. No hello just grouchy acknowledgment. Mentioned that I saw a tic Toc personality show there fare and said it was our first time there. The counter person was an older lady no smile, dismissive didn't offer and suggestions and when asked a few questions about the menu a few eye rolls as if we took too much of her time. Two other guest came in who looked like regulars got the orders in a few minutes. Yes we ordered a variation of items including the item that was suggested by the tic tok personality. We finally got our food and it was cold the brisket bowl was small mostly dry unflavored Mac n cheese and some shaved brisket pieces. We ordered the corn and it too needed some kind of creaminess. I was topped with crush hot Cheetos and that was the only thing that stood out on the flavor profile. They bbq burrito could have been the Hero, but that fell short as well. The 12 inch tortilla was stuffed with what felt like scraps of all the above but dry and old brisket scraps. The highlight unfortunately was the pickled onions served on the side. It took so long getting our meal I really thought we were in for a hot incredible treat. What we got was a cold effort equally cold hospitality. All at a cost of 45$ Do yourself a favor and go to Scott's Addition and get yourself some really great brisket and great service from ZZQue. We left and went there spent less money and were extremely happy. Won't be coming back

Bone fragment found in pulled pork

Pork tastes fine but I found a huge bone fragment in my scoop of meat. I can only imagine what might've happened if this made it into someone's sandwich or onto a child's plate... The burger and the ribs are absolutely worth returning for. Brisket flat not the most tender in town, but decent. Chicken was a little dry.Pork tastes fine but I found a huge bone fragment in my scoop of meat. I can only imagine what might've happened if they scooped this onto someone's sandwich or a child's plate... I won't be back for any pork. The burger and the ribs are absolutely worth returning for. Brisket flat not the most tender in town, but still good. Chicken was a little dry. Food is 4 stars. -1 star for the safety issue.

I love the corner location with opened windows, the weather was perfect for it. They had tables for small groups and large groups. There is an order pad to place your order but there is also an order hostess to take orders. We got to meet the owner and he is super nice!!! We got 3 of the special burritos (2 of the Renzoeats 1 2 3 Attack and another that had chicken that I can't remember). These burritos are huge and made for sharing!!! They had smack & cheese in the burritos...mmmm. I could have used something spicy to kick mine up..jalapenos or so type of hot sauce. Or maybe some pickled onions. We did get a whiff of collard greens before we left and I wish we would have ordered them!! I'll be back to try something else for sure. !

Bar-Q is a solid fast-casual BBQ restaurant. They have a wide array of options for both mains and sides. They do run out of popular items on busy days so be aware to have backup choices! The staff is very kind and hardworking. I got the brisket with green beans and candied yams, pictured below. I'd recommend this spot!

Are the green beans and collard greens just veggie, or do they have pork/fat in them?

There isn't any pork in the greens. The beans are Bushs so there may be a pork fat cube in there.

The next family in line included 2 elderly women and a baby all dressed gorgeous, they also were told they had to wait outside in 105 weather. After about 20 minutes of waiting, (I was just going to tell them to forget it) they said our table was ready. By this time we were so desperate for cool, we didn't argue that we had requested INSIDE not whatever this room was. It ended up being like sitting in a tuna can. So uncomfortable, my husband and bro in law just went and sat in the car with the AC blasting. Waitress was sporadic to put it nicely. Best place to get fresh, succulent deep fried oysters in a flash!…read more I treat myself to their dinner plate with bettered fried okra as a side. It's a bit of an investment, but the freshness and food quality is excellent. The wait staff and window folks are courteous and very competent. I've never been disappointed. I wholeheartedly recommend Sugar's Crab Shack for a delicious meal you'll be sure to remember fondly!

I ordered the just fish that comes with ten (10) pieces. Yes count them 1, 2,3,...10. Just like the Count on Sesame Street. Everyone is locked on right. I paid the money and the guy at the counter charged me for how many? Ten (10) fish pieces. After my short wait, my order was ready. The guy at the window showed me the fish looking golden brown and delicious. Hot piping hot. I said they looked good and ready for liftoff. Got to the car and my wife and I were happy at the time. After several hours and other stops we made it home. We live in Baltimore Md. A short 4 hour ride away. When my wife had unpacked the food and she asked me did I eat any fish? I said No? If I had she would have killed me before the plate got cold. She said that then they (Sugar's) did not give us piece number 10. The Boss was not happy and neither was I. Now I don't mind paying for delicious food and will do again. What I do mind is paying for fish that does not appear on my plate. I felt RIPPED OFF! If someone in the back of the house can't count to ten (10) and your employing someone who doesn't know how to count to 10, I am wondering what else is going on in the back of the house. Advise 1) Moving forward I will ask them to count them before accepting the finished product 2) Don't buy the Onion Rings. My wife does not care for them and she is an Onion ring person. Let's do this again but I'm bring the Count with me and the number 10 JUST TO MAKE SURE WERE CLEAR!

We were seated at a wonderful spot right at the front window facing Grace Street, ideal for people watching and a nice setting overall. Our server, Jennifer was quick to approach and offer drinks and menu suggestions. I had the scallops accompanied by a very tasty potato rosti, fennel/apple salad and fried pork belly bits. It was absolutely delicious - one of the best meals I've had in a while. I was drinking iced tea, which came with a little mint kick to it - I no longer drink alcohol with meals, but they appear to have quite a few creative cocktails as well. While this is likely a higher end restaurant for the area, I found the price averaging about $70 per person all in, including drinks, tip and tax to be quite a reasonable value overall. With wonderful service, incredible food, reasonable prices, and a beautiful dining room, this is certainly a place that I'd revisit again when traveling through or to Richmond.

I had a delicious birthday dinner at Julep's! It came recommended by my brother and sister in law…read moreand I'm so glad my fiancé and I tried it. It's a mix of elevated Southern cuisine with some French influences. It was my birthday. They were even sweet enough to give me one of their special birthday, menus. The restaurant is very classy and mostly wooden with lots of candles everywhere, so it's perfect for a formal dinner or a date night. We were treated to some free gazpacho, which was light and refreshing. Each table also gets complimentary cornbread muffins and butter, absolutely delicious! I ordered the She Crab Soup and a side brussel sprouts. I really enjoyed both, the Brussels were extremely crispy, so I'd recommend telling them not to cook them as much if that's not your preference. The soup was very creamy and flavorful, I like the southern ham that they added. My fiancé ordered the duck and we both really enjoyed it! I highly suggest you give Julep's a try!
