Fun wine bar. Located next to piazza Italia this place used to be a convenience store The inside is your standard pearl district bar. Music pumping. Candlelight. Concrete floors. They have wine by the glass on the chalkboard and a good cocktail selection. I had a Prosecco cocktail and my friend had a glass of wine. Ordered the combo meat and cheese plate. It was a lot of food for 14 bucks. Bread was fine - asked for extra and they gave me a small dish with three slices. Would I come here again? Sure if I needed a table at the restaurant. A small and quiet cocktail bar, I'm glad I discovered Bar Rione in my attempt to find some nice cocktails post dinner. A friend and I stopped in to meet another friend for some drinks and were very happy with all of our drinks. I started with a chins cup and felt the botanicals in the gin perfectly balanced the sweetness of the watermelon. The cucumber added a nice crisp to the drink without being overpowering. My second selection was the Russian Doll which was equally as delicious. The ginger added a nice punch to sweetness of the honey and peach bitters. They are typical pearl district bar with decent food and selections of drinks. They have a huge menu of Negroni if you are in to cocktails. I had a glass of Chianti which was decent along with combo board of cheese and cured meats. The server didn't tell me what kind of meats and cheese but there were a couple of different salamis, prosciutto, pancetta, goat cheese and some hard and soft cheeses. If you are a little bit hungry, Lasagna would be a nice dish to add. It's nice place to stop by before or after the dinner and also a casual night out. read more

What a great wine and cocktail spot! They also have food but we went for pre dinner drinks but we were pleasantly surprised when they came out with complementary snacks! More to come on that. This space seemed like a decent size with multiple tables and a bar but it fills up rather quick as this is a popular spot! We sat at the bar and had great conversation with the bartender. We ordered an aperol spritz and old fashioned and were happy with our drinks. Then to our surprise a bowl of tasty chips were placed in front of us to munch on. As we were enjoying our drinks and snacks, a delicious slice of pizza was brought out for us as well! It had a wonderful tomato sauce base, ham and cheese. It was a perfect snack prior to dinner and totally unexpected. They also have a wonderful wine menu and a great selection of wines by the glass. I usually wouldn't leave a review , but this was such horrible service I re downloaded yelp to leave this review . I wish I could give it less than 1 star. I asked the bartender what is a semi sweet white wine you have, he proceeded to tell me "it's not chocolate chips here" and give us terrible service. We then asked later on for an appetizer, when the bar was dead with only 6 people there, and the bartender dismissed my friend telling her to go on the website THAT DIDNT WORK. My fiancé and I wanted to grab a couple drinks one night, but the original bar we had intended on going to had a long wait time. We decided to drive home, but found Bar Rione on our route back. They had some tables with umbrellas set outside, and a few tables underneath a covered area. The bartender that night was super friendly, sweet, and helpful! Luckily for us, there was one table available. It was raining earlier that night, so the seats were wet, but they came outside and quickly wiped them dry. They even offered us hand warmers, which helped us a ton LOL First round: I got the Passion & Spice Margarita. I liked this one SO much. The sweetness and spiciness were nicely balanced, and you could definitely feel the spice infused in the tequila. I'm not sure what tequila they used, but it was really good! Second (and last) round: I got the Pear Brandy Sidecar, and my fiancé got the Mexican Coffee. The Pear Brandy felt very light, which was a nice surprise, since it has Hennessy in it. I was worried the drink would taste too much like the Henney and come off too strong. The warmth of the Mexican Coffee was perfect for the chilly, windy weather, and it was tasty too! Piazza Italia's sister bar, we had to check it out. Casual ambiance with a cool looking bar. There is a nice cocktail list for happy hour which is 3-6pm, Monday-Friday. We tried the basil gimlet off happy hour and it came with potato chips and 2 antipasti skewers. Off the regular menu we tried the Bella cocktail and the Rusticini puff pastries. The food bites were good but the cocktails were not too exciting. The service was ok. She was friendly and available but didn't seem very knowledgeable when we asked questions about the menu and then rang us up incorrectly. The system is new so she was still trying to figure things out but I didn't get a receipt via anything and the experience didn't leave me wanting to return anytime soon. I was so excited for Bar Rione to open as I adore Piazza Italia and I couldn't wait to try their bar. I've had a wonderful evening here with my girlfriends, a charcuterie board, and several bottles of wine, but after my last visit it's unlikely that I'll return again. It was my birthday and I was trying to think of a place in the Pearl to meet my mom for happy hour. Bar Rione came to mind, so I headed over. I let the bartender (Lucy) know that it was my birthday and I'd like a glass of something nice, and she suggested a Barolo she'd just opened. She let me try it, I liked it, so I ordered a glass. She didn't offer anything special for my birthday - it's certainly not expected, but it would have been appreciated. I slowly sipped on my wine as I waited for my mom, who was stuck in traffic. Happy hour wound down to its close, so I asked the bartender if I could order a couple more drinks for myself and my mom before happy hour ended. This, in my experience, is a fairly standard practice and never have I been rejected when placing a last order in for happy hour, even if my previous drink wasn't completely empty. Well, because I hadn't slammed my glass of fancy wine and still had about half a glass left, the bartender refused to serve me. She claimed that the practice, "stacking", was illegal in the state of Oregon. Which it isn't. It's a suggested policy to help bars serve responsibly, but it is not a law. It's also the first I've ever heard of it after drinking in the state of Oregon for over a decade. I have never been refused a drink because I hadn't finished my previous one. Quite frankly, I was shocked. Happy hour ended, my mom finally arrived, I finished my glass of wine, paid (after being charged full price for the glass despite it being happy hour and having to ask for it to be corrected) and we left. Having had such great experiences at both Piazza and Rione, I was surprised and saddened by how unwelcome I'd felt. I'm pretty bummed and see no reason to return to Bar Rione. read more

As if we weren't blessed enough with Piazza Italia, now we have their newest creation, this sweet and cozy new spot with the undisputed most delicious cocktails and bar bites. We stumbled in on a cold Sunday night with a few friends and found ourselves warmly welcomed and feeling as if in a friend's living room. The vibe is dark and funky with good beats and awesome lighting. The service is warm as if we were all friends and the drinks are seriously worth spending some serious lounge time at this spot. This is not your average cocktail bar because the genius behind the cocktails is Lucy Brennan. The entire team knows their stuff and is bringing it. The homemade limoncello is liquid sunshine. It's not overly sweet nor tart, just a smooth concoction of Italian countryside and balance. It is made in house. If you are a fan of this digestif, get yourself over there for glass. The old fashioned is anything but old fashioned with the sweet tartness of roasted oranges. There are negronis. Spritzers, coffee drinks and wines, you just can't go wrong. Rounding it out is a generous bar menu. We went with the mixed cheese platter and I don't think there could be a better way to round out the weekend than cheese and cocktails. I loved the seating options. You can chill alone at the bar, share an intimate drink at a small Table, watch the street scene as a window bar or enjoy with friends at a communal table. It's pretty much like a ball with the outside shell being mozzarellaand the inside being soft and creamy cheese. This is delicious with the bread, preserved veggies, and meat plate. This place is so cute! Apparently, it used to be a convenience store - an upgrade, if I do say so myself! A girlfriend and I came in here for dinner/drinks and the only negative thing I have to say about the place is that the service can be kind of slow. However on a Friday night with no reservation and being relatively new, I'm not holding it against them too much. The wine was delicious, the ambiance cozy, and everything we ordered was delicious. MAJOR shotout to the poached pear with provolone cheese. Get it - TRUST ME, you won't regret it! We have been to Piazza Italia quite a few times and love them and so , decided to try Bar Rione because it's the same people. Needless to say the service was friendly and great as is the norm in the restaurant next door. We were fortunate enough to get seated immediately even though it was Friday night. I got the Italian which was just a tad bit too sour for my taste and the hubby got a Pineapple mezcal which he loved and ordered another one of , they also served us complimentary potato chips with our drinks while we waited for our food . We ordered the Rusticini and the Meet and cheese board. I did not like the selection of cheeses as they did not compliment the choice of meat on the platter . I asked my server for her recommendation for my next drink and she got me the Barrel aged Alaska , which again unfortunately did not sit well with my taste buds but my husband ended up loving it so no harm done there. It's a good date night spot and more appropriate for small parties because I did not see any big tables in there . I needed a cool place for a nightcap and choose this place based on other yelpers reviews. It was a short walk from my hotel, which helped introduce me to the area. The setting is quiet and intimate. The service was fast and friendly. On to the drinks...I am a big negroni fan and this bar had about 10 negroni variations. As a negroni purist, I was a little unsure of veering away from the classic recipe. Being late at night, I tried the version that had infused coffee into the vermouth. I was blown away by how good this drink was. The infusion was perfect and gave a great coffee flavor while still maintaining the integrity of the drink. I talked to the bartender to provide my complements and she was nice enough to even provide the secret. Overall, I loved this place and when I return to Portland, I will be sure to visit. read more

After spending time and way too much money at Blick's Art Supplies on NW Glisan, I wandered back to the car & and saw that I had a shocking 45m left on the meter.... And thats how I found this adorable little place, Bar Rione. Not wanting to waste parking minutes in the Pearl. It was empty when I got there as this was a chilly late afternoon on the weekend.). The 2 women staff, told me that the bar was very new, as in a few weeks.( Rione,btw, means district or neighborhood in Italian) The place has a sleek, well considered vibe. Nice touches, such as the ecru waxed walls and tiny turquoise vases with rustic minuture orange roses. And a gorgeously lit bar highlighting the sparkly bottles. It could be a set for a La Dolce Vita remake. I was ready to order a glass of an Italian white from the board, however heeded the advice of the server and tried something called the Hugo Spritzer, which was Prosecco, Elderflower Liquer, soda and mint. Its been a while since I had a spritzer. This was delicious, unique and the light touch of fresh mint gives a refreshing finish. The bar tender, Lucy who actually created the drink menu told me that she went Rome for the inspiration. She sampled me a couple of the liqueurs she had discovered. My 4 stars rather than 5 is because the spritzer was all I ordered. And that, alas! Is only because I dreaded another parking ticket. It is a welcoming place for solo diners, but not a place to get work done if you need wifi. They had wifi, but didn't have guest access. We love that restaurants and bars are slowly opening so we went to one of our favorites pre covid to help support our neighborhood. I respectfully waited mask on. Completely ignored by staff who served everyone around us, cleaned tables and entertained wine distributors talking endlessly about the wines we were there to try. This is a fantastic find in the pearl! This warm spot combines the great cocktails of Lucy Brennan (Mint), with a nice wine program and consistently tasty small bites.
