Of the many meals we enjoyed on island, this may have been the most enjoyable. The location is cozy, waterfront and comfortable. Not nearly as stuffy as other options in the area. The service was prompt and kind, helpful and responsive without being overbearing. The bar manager (Conrad) was kind enough to bring us a sample of their house daiquiri; DELISH!!! We enjoyed a few ice cold Grippah IPA's from the nearby Cisco brewery which complimented the cool, fresh seafood well. We started with the seaweed salad which was garnished with micro-greens and edible flowers. We both love seaweed salad and this offering was exceptionally fresh and the garnish furthered the refreshing nature of the dish. Definitely order this as a compliment to almost any other dish on the menu. With the seaweed salad, we had 4 oysters and 8 clams. All were very good and tasted fresh, though I wish the cocktail has a bit more horseradish for some kick! Overall, very good raw dishes. I would also order the tuna carpaccio/crudo next time, it looked awesome. After our initial orderings, we added 3 sushi rolls and 2 skewers of yakitori. All three rolls were outstanding. The tuna scallion was a notch above the standard tuna roll, a nice though minor improvement to a classic roll. I'd like to think the tuna was at least regionally sourced if not local to the island, however I did not verify the source of the tuna with any of the staff. It was delicious all the same. The Nantucket salmon roll was also very good, it was as fresh as salmon can be on the east coast. The dynamite roll was awesome. The best of the 3 rolls, topped with a spicy sauce. Would highly recommend any of these rolls, others on the menu looked good too. The yakitori was terrific. Both chicken and beef were well cooked with nice texture on the outside and moist, juicy on the inside. We didn't try the shrimp yakitori but I'm sure it's delicious, as well. I will undoubtedly return to Yoshi on future visits to Nantucket and hope them all the best! read more

Worst dinner experience on Nantucket. Measly, yet incredibly expensive, bland sushi rolls. The sliced fish was paper thin and translucent. Do not get the rainbow roll, it was absolutely pathetic. And $30. But what made the dinner 1-star (zero stars) was the terrible service we received at the bar. The bartender was rude, aloof, inattentive and dismissive of our concerns. Want some water? Overall our experience at Bar Yoshi was great! The service was good as well as the ambiance. For our appetizers we ordered the crab rangoons and steamed pork dumplings and overall they were good appetizers but the crab rangoons could use more crab filling. For our entrees we ordered the rainbow roll, tempura shrimp and avocado roll, dynamite roll and ichiban roll. The fish was fresh and every roll was tasty. Worst place ever. We wanted to have a nice sushi dinner at our house on a Friday night. First off, they stop doing takeout at 5 PM and it's only by phone and "limited, first come first serve" So we drove 20 minutes and sat at the bar to make an order and asked to have it boxed up. The bartender told us they wouldn't do takeout and to ask the host stand for a takeout order. The host said sorry we don't do takeout after 5 pm. Unfortunately this place will never receive a dime from me for the rest of my life because they don't care about the customer experience. Not everyone has time to sit at your stupid restaurant and call in an order before 5 pm on a Friday. Terrible customer experience, terrible. read more

Nantucket has two main sushi places. Let's call this the no frills option. Sushi by Yoshi is about as down to earth as a Nantucket sit down place can be. Prices aren't crazy, portions are normal and the food is good. Sushi by yoshi was a great escape from the Nantucket scene. The best roll I had was a sweet potato roll that the waitress recommended we try. Drinks here were beer and wine. Most reasonably priced. read more

One of the most spectacular meals I have had on island. Second time I have been to this establishment and I will definitely be going again before I leave. We went around lunchtime during the dead period so the service was quick and the place was not relatively busy. Our server, Conrad (who I believe is the manager) was excellent and was very welcoming and accommodating to any questions. The space inside is beautifully decorated and had great natural lighting. On the day we went, the specials were a scallion pancake topped with smoked salmon and calamari, both of which we got. We also ordered a shrimp tempura avocado roll and a salmon poke bowl. Scallion pancake (9/10) - Not sure the smoked salmon paired perfectly, but it was fantastic nonetheless. Not quite as good as Nautilus' scallion pancakes if you are looking for something truly amazing. Calamari (11/10) - Now, I am not sure if they offer this every day but if they don't, they should. This has got to be the best calamari I have had in my whole life. When it came, it looked a little inconspicuous and not like your typical calamari you would get - but boy was it good. My sister and I both looked at each other with wide eyes after trying it because it was just that good. This is a must have if it is available the day you go. Shrimp avo roll (7/10) - A little bland and pricy but I think the same can be said for everything on Nantucket... Liked the sauce on top Poke bowl (7.5/10) - Best (and basically only) place to get poke on island. The rice was well seasoned and the bowl had a good amount of toppings. Wide variety in choices for proteins. Salmon was great. Additionally, they timed the courses very well. A lot of time on island there will be a large lapse between the starters and the main course but the staff did a great job firing the main course after we finished the starters. We stopped in during COVID on a sunny Sunday afternoon in early September. We were immediately greeted by a young man and seated for lunch outdoors. The server was very polite and nice and took our order right away. We ordered the edamame, shrimp shumai, tuna ceviche, tuna and scallion roll and the tuna tempura roll. The food was delicious! We loved the sushi and everything seemed very fresh. My only note would be that the ceviche was served with a side of what looked like supermarket cheap tortilla chips, which seemed odd and kind of ruined the presentation. Other than that, everything was very good. I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about the service and ownership; we did not encounter any issues at all in that area. People said in some of their reviews that this place was a 1-star restaurant because of a rude manager and poor performance in the food department, but actually it's not that bad. There wasn't even a rude manager... Our waiter was a really nice young man who checked on us often about the food and more water. For the food, I didn't mind at all! It wasn't low-cooked or over-cooked. It tasted pretty good for a Japanese Restaurant on an island. I gave it a 4-star only because the food was expensive. The young professional hostesses knew exactly how to manage my seating with the addition of my dog and make sure we were comfortable and the other guests were comfortable as well. We recently traveled to the Island of Nantucket and upon leaving the ferry, we we're walking towards town and spotted a Sushi Restaurant call Bar Yoshi. We decided to stop in and we were so glad we did. Since Sushi and Sashimi dishes are one of our favorite foods, we know quality when we see and taste it. Bar Yoshi delivered above and beyond what we expected. Great dishes, fresh and tasty with their own take on flavor. Servers were friendly and accommodating and the decor was exactly what you'd expect for a dockside restaurant, comfortable seating with an outstanding view of the boats I also found out later that their Sushi chef was the old Miya's Sushi Chef. Anyone who has eaten at Miya's in the past will absolutely love Bar Yoshi. I have only one regret, which is I didn't have time to have a drink at their new Raw Bar, O Bar, which is directly across from Bar Yoshi. Overall disappointing. The restaurant is not adequately staffed leaving literally 24 dining patrons to one server. In addition the server is also working the take out counter. So don't expect any service aside from the bare minimum. The sashimi was of poor quality and the cut was even worse. These were not sashimi cuts - let's be clear. Thin, flavorless fish - some pieces still inter-connecting leading me to believe "Yoshi" wasn't in he kitchen as these knife skills were non existent. The shrimp tempura roll was easily 7:1 rice to shrimp and also lacked any real flavor. Lastly and I credit the lack of staffing, the cleanliness has a lot to be desired. Your soy sauce on the table will have a residual stain on the top - it likely hasn't been cleaned this summer. read more

For some reason, whenever I'm near the water and amidst a sea (no pun intended) of lobster/mussel/oyster spots, I've never really stopped to consider sushi. Sushi by Yoshi is a nice, cozy restaurant near the docks, and their fish was fresh an generously cut. Specialty rolls weren't really that creative compared to spots I frequent in NY, but I guess they're going for the "purist" clientele. Seating is limited (expect a wait during peak season/times) and it's BYOB, so if you're drinking, put your name in and then grab some cold ones to bring back! Food was good, and this place is definitely worth your time if you're in Nantucket and want a change of pace from all of the New England lobster bakes! read more
