I was craving some sushi and opted to order the poke bowl and I was really glad I did because it was amazing. Fresh tuna over a bed of brown rice and spring mix. It was fully loaded with edamame, cucumber, marinated cherry tomatoes, pickled onions, jalapeños. The bowl was huge and loaded with flavors. By far the best poke bowl I've ever had. We sat at the bar and the bartender was also our server. She was awesome, tentative, friendly, and efficient. Highly recommend this place for the fresh sushi and amazing seafood dishes. read more

Another gem on the island that has reviews that I don't quite understand! Everything we ordered here was perfect. We started with the scallion pancake with salmon and the shrimp Shumai. Both were special in their own ways and were very good. We then got the ichiban, California and dynamite roll. My personal fav was the ichiban. The fish was fresh and was presented perfectly. The amount we ordered was great for two people and will forever be a staple when visiting. Service was quick and ambiance was pretty being outside! Definitely recommend for some yum sushi! read more

Had the most amazing time at Bar Yoshi!! Started with a cocktail at O'Bar. The raw bar was sooo fresh. When our table was ready Amanda came over and got us. She was the best!!!! What began as a lovely evening quickly turned into one of the most unsettling restaurant experiences I've had. My friend and I came in hoping for a quiet night of good food and drinks--and at first, it was exactly that. The bartender/waiter serving us was warm, attentive, and genuinely brought joy to our table and those around us. With barely anyone else in the restaurant, his energy helped fill the space in the best way possible. Unfortunately, the evening took a very upsetting turn. The owner, Terry, suddenly walked in and publicly reprimanded this kind and professional server--right in front of us and other guests--for reasons that were baffling. He claimed the waiter wasn't doing his job, when in fact he was doing it beautifully. The tone Terry used was aggressive and humiliating. He went as far as sitting the server down outside and berating him to the point of tears. It was deeply uncomfortable to witness, and frankly, unacceptable. No one deserves to be treated that way--especially not in front of customers while doing their job well. We were so disturbed by the interaction that we looked up the owner afterward and were not surprised to find a trail of lawsuits and troubling reviews that reflect a pattern of unprofessional conduct. We won't be returning--not because of the food or the atmosphere, but because of the way this manager chooses to treat his staff. First of all this is for management to consider. Ambiance and service was fantastic. I'm sure the chefs are great as well. But whomever thinks the sushi and the sushi portion's are acceptable need to reconsider the head chef position. I have had better sushi at the local supermarket takeout. They could have just purchased takeout sushi and put it on a plate. They also sell sashimi, in 3 slices. Three slices? Who does 3 slices unless it's part of shrinkflation? And each sushi roll barely has any actual raw sushi in it that you need to really look hard to find it. Our group comes from California so maybe this is just the Nantucket over priced experience. My recommendation is the skip anything raw and go for the rest as all the other food was terrific. Skip the sushi. read more

I will never come back here. Went here with a group of friends and we were denied alcohol because the staff thought we were underage when we are all 23-25 years old. I have also fined here multiple times. Beyond rude. Handled so poorly. Staff was rude, besides our waiter Percy who was very nice. We had to have a police officer come and prove that we are of age in order to be served alcohol. It's a shame because the food is pretty good. I've never been treated like that at a place before. They gave us complimentary champagne to apologize but gave us a drop in each glass. Not cool. read more

This is absolutely one of my favorite restaurants on the island. I have never (not in four years) had a less than stellar meal here. The presentation and food = outstanding, but what really makes the place special = the staff. Attentive and knowledgeable, they will make you feel like you are the only table they are tending to. Two standouts are Vlad (request him!) and Amanda. Wow! We ate there twice during a four-night stay and both meals were exceptional. Amanda and Vlad contributed to such a great experience. We also tacked on a few drinks at the bar and an appetizer when we arrived. Bartenders are some of the best on the island. I love this place and we know good food coming from the DC restaurant scene. I don't entirely know how to review this place. It was once a tiny little hole in the wall located somewhere downtown; today, it's on a major pier in touristville central, and the new space is sleek, with truly beautiful design elements, a wonderful place to sit and catch the breeze on a hot summer afternoon. Service could not be kinder. We had the nicest server named Carlos, who kept tabs on a huge number of tables and whose gracious personality wholly made amends for a slow kitchen. (They were unexpectedly mobbed that day.) What I don't know how to review is the food because I have a fundamental dislike of sushi nouveaux -- and that is what Bar Yoshi largely serves. But Nantucket has few other options for sushi of any sort, nouveaux or traditional. So... just throwing out some observations: - Bar Yoshi doesn't use sushi rice, but rather a Calrose-type of medium-grain rice. It was well seasoned and well prepared (to a good texture), however. Given the hot weather, I personally prefer a touch more vinegar. - The fish was of good quality, although there were some overly fibrous cuts in some of the maki. - Gyoza (slightly thick-skinned) and wakame salad were standard fare and enjoyable to us. - Nigiri is made larger than is standard in Japan, with a higher rice to fish ratio. The fish was quite fresh, the rice a bit more compact than what we prefer. - Ceviche was wholly inauthentic and underwhelming on the spice, but the ripe avocado was quite nice. There was a mistake somewhere in the pipeline and we received vegetable spring rolls instead of vegetable maki rolls. Our kind server gave us the spring rolls on the house -- and our bunch ended up liking them quite well. (The filling included glass noodles, tiny pieces of I think wood ear mushrooms, with a touch of lemongrass.) When the actual vegetable maki came, they included avocado and cucumber, but not carrot, which our kids happen to like (and which I remember as being part of the vegetable roll, here, in the past). It's fairly spendy for what it is. If you're a sushi snob with access to authentic, excellent sushi where you are, you're advised to avoid. If you enjoy new-fangled sushi (the kind with tempura, mayonnaise and such things rolled into your maki), made with fairly high-quality fish, then this is your place. read more

There was a short 20 minute wait to eat inside, we mentioned that we would look around at other options and the host offered us a glass of complementary glass of champagne - nice touch and it was the start of a great dining experience. Of the many meals we enjoyed on island, this may have been the most enjoyable. The location is cozy, waterfront and comfortable. Not nearly as stuffy as other options in the area. The service was prompt and kind, helpful and responsive without being overbearing. The bar manager (Conrad) was kind enough to bring us a sample of their house daiquiri; DELISH!!! We enjoyed a few ice cold Grippah IPA's from the nearby Cisco brewery which complimented the cool, fresh seafood well. We started with the seaweed salad which was garnished with micro-greens and edible flowers. We both love seaweed salad and this offering was exceptionally fresh and the garnish furthered the refreshing nature of the dish. Definitely order this as a compliment to almost any other dish on the menu. With the seaweed salad, we had 4 oysters and 8 clams. All were very good and tasted fresh, though I wish the cocktail has a bit more horseradish for some kick! Overall, very good raw dishes. I would also order the tuna carpaccio/crudo next time, it looked awesome. After our initial orderings, we added 3 sushi rolls and 2 skewers of yakitori. All three rolls were outstanding. The tuna scallion was a notch above the standard tuna roll, a nice though minor improvement to a classic roll. I'd like to think the tuna was at least regionally sourced if not local to the island, however I did not verify the source of the tuna with any of the staff. It was delicious all the same. The Nantucket salmon roll was also very good, it was as fresh as salmon can be on the east coast. The dynamite roll was awesome. The best of the 3 rolls, topped with a spicy sauce. Would highly recommend any of these rolls, others on the menu looked good too. The yakitori was terrific. Both chicken and beef were well cooked with nice texture on the outside and moist, juicy on the inside. We didn't try the shrimp yakitori but I'm sure it's delicious, as well. I will undoubtedly return to Yoshi on future visits to Nantucket and hope them all the best! read more

Overall our experience at Bar Yoshi was great! The service was good as well as the ambiance. For our appetizers we ordered the crab rangoons and steamed pork dumplings and overall they were good appetizers but the crab rangoons could use more crab filling. For our entrees we ordered the rainbow roll, tempura shrimp and avocado roll, dynamite roll and ichiban roll. The fish was fresh and every roll was tasty. Where do I begin. My brother and I used to frequent this place when it was Sushi by Yoshi. Food was always good, but the service sucked and staff was typically rude. I've come to Bar Yoshi a few times now, and the food has actually gotten worse. For $3 for each piece of sushi(around $20-30 per roll)it's definitely not worth the price. The restaurant also throws on an additional gratuity fee, separate of the tip, without disclosing it to customers, in lieu of paying their employees. They simply slap on a fee at the end of each check, in the hopes their customers won't notice. It's not the cost of the fee that bothers me, but the fact that I am being charged for something that was not initially disclosed- that's simply unethical. Overall, considering food, service, hospitality, and prices, I wouldn't recommend coming to Bar Yoshi. read more

Worst place ever. We wanted to have a nice sushi dinner at our house on a Friday night. First off, they stop doing takeout at 5 PM and it's only by phone and "limited, first come first serve" So we drove 20 minutes and sat at the bar to make an order and asked to have it boxed up. The bartender told us they wouldn't do takeout and to ask the host stand for a takeout order. The host said sorry we don't do takeout after 5 pm. Unfortunately this place will never receive a dime from me for the rest of my life because they don't care about the customer experience.
