I called him after waiting 40 minutes for him to show up, but he said he didn't have an appointment with me in his calendar. He offered to come out the next day, but I told him to forget it. In the last crazy windstorms that we had, unfortunately one of my palm trees snapped in half and was hanging over the sidewalk area. I called Barba Landscape and spoke with Jose. He told me that my palm tree was actually the city's tree since it was in the "parkway" area, the part between the sidewalk and the street. He gave me a number to call and said they would come out and remove the broken palm for free. Wow! He could have made money doing this himself, yet was super honest about how I could get it done for free. That says a ton about his integrity. Had Barba redo the watering system at my home from sprinklers to drip. The bid was fair, the work was done quickly...they double-checked everything and repaired at no additional cost a couple of pre-existing hookups. Everything works perfectly. And when the dog got into the garden and popped one of the connectors (discovered when water started spraying everywhere) Barba was there within an hour to fix the problem and get the system back to work. Adding to the chorus of people who have been ghosted by Jose. While he may be very friendly, make no mistake, Jose is a slippery guy, always needing to get off the phone a minute or two after picking up. I first spoke with him on a Friday and he set a date with me for Tuesday morning. He said he needed to go immediately so I wasn't able to tell him what work I needed to get done, which I thought fishy. We played phone tag a bit more, eventually he answered to tell me he wasn't available but he would call me at 4pm in the afternoon, then never called, and no response to my text asking if he still wants to talk. I was able to eke out a few texts from him when I followed up the next day where he confirmed for the second time that he would show up on Tuesday morning at the time we'd decided. I'd like to add interactions were perfectly pleasant, and he gave no indication he didn't want the job. He just was really hard to get a hold of and pretty vague about his work and showed oddly very little interest in knowing what work I was hiring him to do. Then Tuesday morning he just doesn't show. No response to text or call. The dude vanished. Definitely bummed I wasted 5 days playing phone tag with this goon. read more

Jose took over my monthly maintenance in Oct 2014 and demonstrated a high level of service at the outset. At the beginning he answered calls and sent workers who knew what they were doing. As time went on he became less and less responsive to the point of not returning calls. He also changed out the crew and sent less experienced people who did not perform quality work. I am disappointed because we really thought we had someone we could work with but over time the level of service just continued to decline. In July 2015 we finally moved on to someone else. read more

When we were left high and dry by a contractor who bailed in the middle of an extensive backyard renovation, Jose and his team came in to save the day. He was upfront about the job and presented workable options and suggestions for completion from the first meeting. His bid was reasonable, and, most importantly, he took on the job even though it required reworking the irrigation system and maneuvering around some pre-existing elements that couldn't be changed given our budget. We are especially pleased with the creative, ambient lighting he added throughout the yard and elements such as decorative potted plants and attention to detail on our outdoor fireplace. The landscaping is beautiful and should be easy to maintain, which was important to us. This rating isn't perfect mainly because the project took a few weeks longer than quoted.
