NOT a Barbecue place. (even though the sign says barbecue) Ordered the meat and three items on the menu. Pulled pork, mac and cheese, broccoli and rice casserole and sweet potato souffle. It just wasn't good. Yelp really lead me astray on this one. The pork tasted ok, but it was dry. Which I am guessing they knew because it was smothered in sauce. Then they brought me MORE sauce. Anyway, the mac and cheese, as described by other reviewers was literally mushy macaroni noodles and slabs of hard, unmelted cheese. The broccoli and rice casserole had a slimy texture to it and wasn't good at all. The sweet potato souffle was actually kinda good, but piping hot when it came out (so microwaved). All in all, like what one of the tippers said, should have gone to Waffle House next door, which speaks volumes!! I was not surprised that the cashier DIDN'T ask me how everything was. I go to turn around and I look up and boom.., I'm here, just like that! *lies, all lies* You can get a home cooked/ mama put her whole foot in it meal with meat & three veggies for $10. The portions are monstrous flint stone size portions. This is comfort back-home kinda food. You can't eat this everyday, but when you do eat it... It's worth it. It'll feed your soul. This place has been around since the airport had one terminal. Well not quite that long but close. Went on a Sunday and sat down at a freshly wiped, but not clean table. Our waitress was nice, but definitely was not on her game. Our table and others around us were asking her for things that didn't come out with the order. Order were coming out wrong. She was full of excuses, like the kitchen didn't know how to cook ,"that is why the plate was missing the eggs" What does that even mean? Salad dressing never came. She brought the jelly we asked for more or less wit the check. The food that came out was decent. There are better more organized places int eh area. Long story short: good food at great prices. The brisket, smoked chicken, fried chicken, and catfish are very...very good. Above average actually. The sides are also pretty good. The sweet potato soufflé is good, but very sweet. The collard greens are good. The fried okra is decent, but not great. The mashed potatoes and gravy are also pretty good...just be sure to add some salt. What to drink...sweet tea or lemonade. The food is good...it's just not great food when compared to some of the other BBQ joints around Atlanta. However...the prices...come on...you cannot beat the prices. Chicken Platter The fried chicken was off the chain!! Flavorful, crispy, golden brown and juicy. Absolutely delicious. Sweet potato soufflé was light and good. The raisins I could've done without, wasn't too bothersome though. Collard greens were delicious. Cooked well and good seasoning. Traditional southern flare that is always one of my favorites. Mac and cheese needed some help. The sharp cheddar slice on top wasn't melted. :( The sauce base for the noodles wasn't creamy/cheesy enough. Creamed corn was just okay. Bland and lacked flavor, nothing exciting here. The ribs were pretty good. Tender enough, just not fall off the bone tender. The homemade BBQ sauce was great. I took the hot sauce they had on the table and mixed that with the BBQ sauce. It jazzed it up, giving it a little heat with the sweet BBQ sauce. I visited tonight with my family, from Cincinnati. I'm a huge BBQ aficionado, and take great pleasure in the talents of pit masters, and try to seek them out on my travels across the country. As much as I love great BBQ, I despise those who bastardize the art. "Barbecue Kitchen," sadly trades on the term "barbecue" without honoring a single requisite principle. First, a highlight. I liked the cornbread. It was moist, with a bit too much baking soda (a flavor which I don't mind tasting in cornbread). I ordered the chopped brisket, mashed potatoes and gravy, mac and cheese, and peach cobbler. What I got was soupy overcooked pot roast, flavorless potatoes covered in a tablespoon of gravy from a can, way overcooked mushy macaroni noodles with (literally) a thin strip of cheese-colored something, and a cobbler concocted from canned peaches. My wife got the pulled pork, which was pork that had been pulled, but obviously crocked and broiled. This is not an exaggeration. That's precisely what they served. Not a hint of smoke in the meat. These people don't know barbecue from bubblegum. The only reason they can get away with calling it barbecue is the huge sauce bottles adorning every table. Take away the cheap tang of their supply-house vinegar-and-tomato facade, and you're left with the crap we were served, which is a far cry from even mediocre barbecue. That they serve cheap roast beef and call it brisket is criminal. That they use the word "barbecue" in their name just might be a sin. Peace, and may you find good BBQ elsewhere. read more

What happened to this place?? Dried fried chicken with cardboard crust, tastleless dry cornbread muffins, huge slimy beige things that were supposed to be lima beans, bland sweet potato souffle. The collards were the only thing edible. I've been going here all my life. This place was where my family ate when we wanted "good food" - code for not fancy Southern food including vegetables cooked the right way. Our staples weren't barbecue but fried chicken, baked chicken, pot roast, etc. Reliable meat and three, we'd always see a neighbor, and we were rarely disappointed. Now I know I'll never go again. Loved this place! Came here for lunch today and I'm so glad I did. I was promptly seated and the waitress was quick to greet me. She recommended a meat plate for me and she couldn't have picked a more perfect plate. I had the half pork half chicken plate and it was amazing! Perfectly cooked meat with a 3 sides and cornbread. This place was a few minutes walk from my hotel, and I decided to give it a try. It was a really pretty day in ATL, not too hot (surprisingly), so I enjoyed the walk. When I got there it was no surprise that it was an older, kind of worn down establishment. I went to the takeout closet (for lack of better words. The takeout order area is tiny!), and asked a local gentleman if it was good food and he said "meh". He had the smoked ribs and had been plenty of times. I ended up getting the brisket which was a very generous helping, broccoli casserole, Mexican corn bread, fried okra, and mashed potatoes. The "vegetables" (sides) as they cakes them were pretty mediocre, and you could tell they had been in a heating lamp or tray for a while as they were not crisp, the mash potatoes were a tad dry, and the broccoli was yellowish. It was still okay especially since I was very hungry. The sauce was pretty good, and the meat wasn't as bland as some reviews have led on. The corn bread had some pretty good jalapeños that definitely brought a little heat that was much appreciated! Overall this place isn't bad, especially if you're in a pinch for dinner or really hungry because the portions were surprisingly large for the cost. Just don't expect great customer service, and check your order before you leave. They're not the type to make sure you got a special request or even earring utensils for a to go order. read more

This place USED to be awesome. The last few years, with the help of COVID, it has descended into a haze from which only disappointed customers exit. The server today with his 'man bun' couldn't remember to bring tarter sauce with the fish, butter with the bread, and a mere glass of water when I asked. Not only poor service, but small portions, no refills on the vegetables, food that is TOOOOOO SALTY, and just the lack of care for the customer that used to exist. It's sad really. Brisket, greasy, no smokiness, cut wrong so that you ended up with long strands of muscle...made it tough instead of tender. Little to no bark and little to no flavor. Sauce helped, but only a bit. Sweet potato soufflé has raisins in it which I found off putting. It had so much nutmeg in it that that's all I tasted. Overly sweet. The Mac and cheese, packed so densely in the dish they made it that it comes out as a solid cake more than individual elbows. No flavor except for the few bites with actual cheese in them, had to use way too much salt and pepper to make it palatable. Had several flies buzzing my head and food the entire meal. Salt/pepper shakers and bbq sauce bottle taken off of a dirty table that just got up and put straight on to mine with no effort to prevent COVID transmission. Service: down to earth, to the point and leisurely. This isn't a 5 course meal so don't come in with high expectations of 5 star service. This folks have been doing this for a long time and know how to do it right. Food: So damn good. Its comfort food. I haven't had a bad meal here yet. This is a very simple place. I wouldn't really consider it bbq, more like southern home style cooking. It's quiet, fairly consistent and pretty decent. I've been here a couple times and I'm pretty sure Ive had the meatloaf at least twice so I'd recommend getting that. Last time I went, the squash casserole and the Mac n cheese weren't as good as they usually are. The apple cobbler is good and the sweet tea is sweet. We went for lunch on Sunday and the reseats busy. We ordered 1/2 ribs with 2 side order of vegetables- collard green and tomatoes. It was a healthy portion for us to share.
