After a weekend trip, we went to pick up our dog up from the in-laws. To thank them, we told them we'd bring dinner and picked up some delicious burrito bowls from Barberitos. This is a large location with plenty of indoor seating. We were greeted by the staff as soon as we walked in, and they were very friendly helping down the line build 4 different bowls, exactly how we wanted them. Our meal was great. The bowls were made exactly as we wanted, and we had plenty of food left for lunch the next day. I'd definitely recommend this spot. Staff is friendly, and plenty of room for to dine or take your food to go!

Tacos- 1 spicy chicken and 1 ground beef

Very similar to other Tex-mex quick food chains but I do love that they offer ground turkey and their spicy chicken is always good with just the right amount of heat. Great flavorful salsa on the salsa bar and good tortilla chips. The tacos are a great dine in option but don't always travel well. The ground beef tasted slightly burnt when I got it. Service is good nothing special. the team is usually patient as people do build your own menu options. A great addition for casual dining at thruway.

We recently learned about Barberitos opening their first location in Winston and decided to stop in. Located in the same shopping center as Harris Teeter near the hospital, it is easily accessible from highway 421. We were immediately impressed with the overall look of the restaurant. It's obviously brand new, and appeared very clean and comfortable. There is a large menu board on the wall to the left that is clear and easy to read. There are also two kiosks just as you walk in where you can create and customize your order, as well as pay for your order. We enjoyed looking over the options and creating our order. We believe you can also place your order at the counter but didn't see anyone doing that, so we are unable to confirm. Between the two of us, we ordered a steak salad and a create your own burrito, both customized to our liking. We stopped at the drink station and grabbed extra napkins and a fork for the salad. We also stopped at the salsa bar and appreciate the varieties available. We tried several varieties including the green tomatillo which is typically a favorite of ours. Our orders were brought to us at our table and looked really yummy. My wife thought the salad ingredients were fresh and well prepared. She did enjoy it but also couldn't help but to compare her salad to another fast casual Mexican restaurant that we enjoy. She feels the overall value and size of the salad at the other place is better than our experience at Barberitos. We do enjoy creating our own burritos and salads at these types of restaurants, but felt the overall size of our entrées were smaller than other local favorites and we also appreciate getting items like guacamole included built in the price and not an additional charge. We will likely return but still have a preference for another business.

First time at any Barberitos location. If you've never been, it's basically like the other chain restaurants, which I tend to avoid. It was fine, but they offer free kids meal with adult entree and drink purchase on Tuesdays and Sundays, with entertainment for the kids on Tuesdays 6-8. So we came for that. There was a comedy magician who was friendly. My kids are shy, but they enjoyed. He wasn't too intrusive, but he was still setting up from like 6-6:30ish, so I wouldn't show up at 6 if you're going specifically for the entertainment. It was empty when we went, one or two other tables had people. The restaurant was pretty clean, and staff I found to be friendlier than some of the competitors. The food was on par with the competition as well, but the prices are rather expensive for what you get. I enjoyed the salsa options and some of the juices at the fountain area. Can't say I'll be a regular, just because I try not to support chains, but I'll be fair and say this was a good experience for a chain. Edit: updating this to correct myself that this is locally owned and operated franchise. I maintain there's plenty of other Mexican options in the area that I would probably gravitate to before returning, but I'll sooner go here for counter service than the competition in all likelihood because it is locally owned and operated.

Chicken Salad with a side of Chips & Queso

This is a fairly new restaurant that serves Southwestern style food . They offer fresh burritos, tacos, and nachos and more. The service is always great and the staff is so friendly. My absolute favorite dish from here is the Chicken Salad it comes in a Crispy tortilla shell and you get to pick whatever type of toppings you'd like to add. Each meal comes with a side of chips and they offer an endless salsa bar.

We came on a Tuesday where kids can eat free with a paid adult meal. We were greeted with kindness as we placed our order. I ordered the chicken burrito bowl and they had an array of toppings you could choose from. There was adequate seating and very clean. While we were there they had a magician who also did balloon animals, hats and swords. Great place and family friendly.

    So much sauce!!

I decided to wait on Barberitos until they had been open awhile, after hearing mixed reports. I'm very happy that I finally went. They gave a ton of food, and it was delicious. They have the self-order kiosks, which is really nice if you get anxious when having to make rapid choices while someone is staring into your eyes. Word to the wise though, that sauces section at the bottom refers to the sauces that will be added on top of your food (not on the side). So if you order the spicy chicken and then add haberano sauce... it's going to be too spicy to eat. Lesson learned, but entirely my fault.

Not quite sure this is a come back to place for me .... Wanted to check it out as it was new to the area and a chain I hadn't seen before. Got here for lunch around 12pm, maybe a couple of tables were occupied. Service was good . You order at a kiosk or at the counter. Usual mix of Burritos, bowls, salads, nachos etc. I got the burrito bowl with rice, beans, grilled chicken and all veggie fixings . Honestly the tortillas on display looked impressive so many varieties but one of them had mold on it in plain sight. So glad I didn't choose that. Also the greens were kinda wilted and browned and not fresh looking. So I kinda skipped those. My bowl was still pretty full . They have a salsa bar which had some nice fresh tasting verde, and red salsas. Drink station also nicely set up with plenty of variety. My friend also got a bowl and skipped the veggies and went with just sour cream and cheese, rice and chicken. Food was fine nothing crazy to write home about. Salsas made it tasty. You also get free chips with orders but they tasted of old oil. My friend said the tea was super sweet even when she mixed it with unsweetened. They do have that nice little pebble ice though! They had a few people come in while we were there. Not super busy though for lunch time. Not sure all the food prep is fresh, I had a stomach ache later in the day... hopefully wasn't the food. Was a nice clean place though and plenty of seating inside. Bathrooms were clean too. Nice bright decor. Return trip ? Maybe if someone asks me to go. Not sure though.

They have recently added American food to the mix as well. My favorites are the chicken empanadas, sopes, and Gorditas! I must say that the small empanadas have become my absolute favorite here! They are always fried to perfection with fresh chicken and cheese and I always ask them to add refried beans inside as well. They also put sour cream on top which I don't prefer but have gotten before, and it doesn't harm the taste at all. I just don't prefer the extra calories that the sour cream adds as the taste benefit is not worth it to me. There's always salad which consists of onions, shredded lettuce, and tomatoes as well. I have also gotten their pupusas. That come with special salsa and the coleslaw that is always delicious as well. The salsa and the pupusas are such a good marriage with The coleslaw that is vinegar based. They are served fresh and delicious with the freshest ingredients! The prices are relatively reasonable and the service is always friendly and quick. They also serve Aguas Frescas that are pineapple and Agua de Jamaica. My favorite is the Jamaica, which is just iced hibiscus tea, but it is so delicious! It's never overly sweet at all which I love. While not all of our local options are great, we have a reasonably large number of options that are good enough to make them regular stops for me. Taco Mama is not going to be on that list, I'm afraid, based on my experience thus far. The facility itself seems fine, though the ambient noise level was rather loud (likely influenced by all the metal and concrete). But the food, the feel, the service and the value just don't compete well with all those other places we have to choose from. The unhelpful attitude of the clerk taking my order didn't start things out well; she seemed genuinely annoyed about being there, and that attitude carried over into her tone when answering my questions or prompting me for info she needed. Also on the service side of things, I had to stop the waitress from throwing away my food -- a plate over half full -- after I'd walked not more than ten steps away to refill my drink. [She apologized, but only after I had to confront her twice; still don't understand why "don't throw that away!" could have been confusing.] The burrito and beans I ordered were edible, but so bland that I might as well have been eating packing materials. The accompanying chips were warm, but the cup of salsa was quite possibly the least appealing salsa I've ever been served in a restaurant. I've had Taco Bell food I've enjoyed more than this. And yet I had forked over almost $20 for such a disappointment. Maybe it was an off-day. Maybe the tacos are the way to go here instead. But I don't think they offered even a hint of a reason for me to try Taco Mama again any time soon.

They came out with crema on it when I ordered it on the side, but it was quickly rectified. The portion was good. I was full by the end. The flavor was okay. Chicken cooked fine. But it didn't have much of a sweet heat kick to it without the jalapeños added. Overall, I wouldn't necessarily get it again when we go back. My fiancé ordered the Houston beef puffy taco. He thought the taco was very filling. It had meat falling out of it, which was good. It tasted like a typical ground beef taco. He hoped the chorizo would elevate it, but it didn't.
