I was told by a few other Jamaicans that this place had the best curried goat in town. So, we decided to try it. The restaurant is in a small shopping plaza with lots of parking. It is plain and clean with seats for dining in. But it seems popular for take-out meals (which is what we did). Servers were friendly. But at 5 p.m. on a Saturday they were out of boiled yams, bananas, and dumplings, as well as fried bammy. And they didn't have any steamed cabbage nor plantains. These are staple side dishes. And none were available early on a weekend night? One server told me to come at 11 a.m. to make sure I got what I wanted. Say what? Anyway, we got an order of curried goat (only one size available at $16), a side of jerk chicken, and a side of fried chicken. The jerk was nicely seasoned but did not come with any additional jerk sauce. The fried chicken was good and was accompanied by a sweetish sauce on the side. The goat was tender and seasoned nicely but a bit too salty for my taste, and definitely not the best in the area. (Though, no one can compete with my mother's curried goat. But since her stroke last year, she is not doing any cooking.) And we got enough salad (lettuce and such) and pigeon peas and rice with the curried goat that we did not need another side to accompany all the meats we bought. My go too for Jamaican style fried chicken. I got mine with white rice and there mac salad. The fried chicken is always fresh and well seasoned. Sometimes there mac salad is a hit for miss but today it was great. Barbican has good food but they don't share a lot. If you were to compare barbican with other Jamaican restaurants, you would get more from the other restaurants. I went from bragging about this place to wondering should I ever return back here. I left here very disappointed. I came here for a lunch to get their jerk chicken lunch special. I arrived way before lunch ends at 2 o'clock. When I tried to order the lunch special the girl told me that they are out of jerk lunch special. I didn't get such a thing since she offered me the dinner price jerk. I could've understood if they were out completely but it seem to me that she wanted me to pay dinner price instead of lunch price which isn't fair. I told her that I am here way before lunch end why I cannot get it but she persist that they are out. The only different between lunch and dinner is the portion so why I couldn't get the a few pieces of jerk for lunch. Then when I asked for brown stew gravy on my rice she said that they don't have enough. Luckily, the other worker asked for the brown stew so I was able to see for myself that they had gravy but she refuse to give it to me. But I am the paying customer give me what I am requesting. Delicious Jamaican food! My family got the oxtail, brown stew chicken and jerk chicken. The oxtail is super fatty but tender and very flavorful. The meat basically falls off the bone. The brown stew chicken is a little sweet but very savory. The meat is juicy and also easily falls off the bone. I didn't get a chance to taste the jerk chicken but seeing how it was devoured, I figured it was good, so you can't go wrong with that either. In addition, you get a big portion for what you pay for so totally worth it. The only downfall, in my opinion, is that the rice and peas was a little dry. This spot has become my family's go-to. I went to the restaurant Saturday (11/11/2023) and because i told her no tip she just walked off which forced me to reach in and take my receipt and my food. I was totlly taken back . I was going to tip in cash but never had the opportunity to tell her . That is my last time visiting that place. To many ja restaurants around for me to be treated that way. So overall I think the food here is good. I had to come twice in order to get a good fee for the place. I'd first found out about this place when I participated in an event at the smoothie shop next door and told myself that eventually I'd come back. For my first visit, I got the jerk wings and red beans and rice. I'd gotten there at about 2 and they were already out of cabbage and plantains. Since they were out of sides (they had salad but that is one thing I do not get from these types of restaurants), they didn't even offer a substitute. I saw this because they had macaroni salad but still wanted me to pay extra for it. While the red beans and rice was good, the jerk chicken was not; to me. I could tell that they put sugar (or too much of it) in the marinade/dry rub. There was no spice to it at all and when I did add hot sauce it only seemed to heighten it. Perhaps this was just an off day. I am very particular about things being sweet that are supposed to be savory. And jerk wings are not supposed to be sweet. They should be spicy. Now my second visit was way better. For one, I got there at about 11:30 and they had cabbage. Two, I'd learned the day before that they serve fried dumpling on Sunday's and they still had some when I got there. And lastly, the curry chicken was not sweet! I got the large and was able to eat off it that day, take some for lunch on Monday and on Tuesday. The fried dumpling was gone the same day and cooked to perfection. I will certainly come here again if for nothing more than the dumpling and/or curry chicken. I'd much rather to try something else though. Certainly won't be the jerk wings! read more

This place is good, it's not much to look at and there is definitely limited seating but what separates this place from the rest is the great Jerk Chicken and Curry Chicken. Now, during lunch this place has a long line that at times wraps around outside, but they are fairly quick getting people in and out. As stated, the Jerk Chicken and Curry Chicken is delish and is basically what I come for. The cabbage is ok, not the worst nor the best, sometimes it seems the cabbage isn't as fresh as it should but again, bearable. I do wish they sold beef patties, but they do not. I am a regular customer but was very turn off on 12/17/21 I watched a server shared lots of customer without wearing a mask and talking over the food. I spoke to her and she said I am sorry and continued sharing and talking without a mask. Everyone who entered the restaurant had their mask on and also the other servers. A Jaimaican friend recommend this place as having real Jaimaican food. Lunch had a line of 12 people, so that's a good sign. I'm not sure what's up with the A/C but it felt like it wasn't on, they have like 6 wall mounted fans mounted on the wall, which tells me the a/c is probably is always off. So takeout is recommended, no biggie. So I love some good jerk chicken, I had the lunch portion special that was $5.95. Basically it was like 2 drumsticks and 2 misc chicken pieces, nice portion for the price. You can order large size as well. It comes w peas and rice, cabbage or small salad and a drink. The chicken was really good, more like a stewed jerk. It had lots of seasoning which I like, you find it tucked under skin and stuff. Nice spice as well, not over heated. Some places do a light rub which defeats the purpose of jerk. Peas and rice were good, it's hard to mess that up. Tip.....Add jerk sauce to rice!! I also had a large beef soup which was good and hearty. It had dumplings, potato, carrot, yucca and some other unknown veggies and stuff. It was like stewed beef or maybe oxtail.
