I do highly recommend to order ahead since they cook the griot to order so it could take longer the wait if there some orders ahead of yours. The griot itself was really good, well seasoned and with good amount of fatty parts. The black rice was delicious and had a hint of spice. Fried green bananas were fried to perfection. Had the Lambi and classic mushroom rice wi plantains on the side while my cousin had the Turkey with the mushroom rice and the plantains on the side. Very disappointed in this place. The new staff is horrible. Katia made me wait over 10 mins to place my order which was ok. What I did have a problem with is being told they have $35 $45 & $50 fish but couldn't tell me what size dish I'm getting. So basically I give you $35 $45 or $50 and my fish could be under 2lbs . I had the great pleasure of meeting the owner and would love to let her know that she has a GEM on her hands. The food was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is actually a gem! I love Haitian food (as I'm Haitian ^.^ ). It's hard to find a good Haitian restaurant in South Florida sometimes. One that had nice sit down area and is consistent. I can't attest to the consistency of this restaurant, as I've only been here once. But in that area I know there's not many. The decor of the restaurant is nice. I like the effort that is put into giving it the island feel. In the plaza, I wouldn't have expected to find something like this. I also can't attest too much to the service as I got my food to go. What did suck is that they were out of a lot by the time I got there, which sucked because I really wanted to try different things. I ordered the griot platter and fried chicken platter. The griot was good! Believe it or not some places actually do mess it up. It was seasoned just enough and was juicy. The rice was also really good! What I really did enjoy was their piklíz. Not many places make it that spicy, so I thought it was a treat and a tribute to the authenticity of it all. So I just came from a 5 days oversea trip with my nephew #BirthdayBehavior My cousin pick us up from the airport. We got off the plane and of course we were starving. He's driving and as he passed the regular street where our usual spot for Haitian food is located, I asked him if we were eating something else (we did just spent 5 days without Haitian food hello). He said there was a new spot closer to the house. Now I'll always check a new spot once but I'm very loyal to my old ones. So we're starving and he pulled into this familiar shopping plaza. We walked in and I instantly gave +++++ for décor and cleanliness. The decor immediately took me back to the Haiti (not the media version) I grew up in. The paintings and the artifacts were tastefully situated around the restaurant. The restaurant itself is not huge but it feels big and comfortable enough for about 25 people. The foods smell delicious but the aroma didn't overpower the place. One main complaint about Haitian restaurants is sometimes that you go in and walk out with more than the food in your bag. Your clothes and hair will smell like food for hours. For some unearthly reason I decided (yep Haitian born and breed chick) to become a vegetarian. I'm at the pescatarian stop so seafood is still good on this journey. Quick note about us Haitians if there's no meat or rice it's not a meal So here I am been very limited with my choices as to what I can eat out at a Haitian restaurant. Rice, beans and plantain are not so appetizing without the griot (fried pork), tassot (fried goat or fried turkey), legumes (vegetable stew but WE put meat in it) I know you're waiting for me to review the food... Well I just woke up from my nap (well rested) and still full from lunch so I feel a little chatty so keep reading My nephew got the white rice with black beans and poulet en sauce (stew chicken). He swallowed the food before I could take a pic but judging from the empty plate it was delicioso. I was about to order my plain white rice with black beans and fried plantain when somehow legumes got mentioned. I kinda rolled my eyes since I really would love some legumes but I already knew my peeps put meat in the VEGETABLE STEW #WhatsInAName To my delightful surprise the owner (Bernadette I think) said today's legumes was made with morue (cod fish) because it's Holy Week (well go Jesus go Jesus it's your week thank you) The food was delicious. The rice and beans was seasoned (Haitian style but not spicy hot) The legumes had a little extra oil (Haitians tend to over do it with oil at times) but overall it was great. The bannan peze (fried plantains) were crispy and tasteful (I only got two bannan though I'm used to getting three lol) I did mentioned to the owner (Bernadette I think) that although I'm loyal to my old spot she can easily steal me away if she includes more vegetarian dishes on her menu. She seems willing to explore the idea.. I snapped a few pics so check them out and visit the restaurant so we can compare notes. I'm sitting here writing this review thinking I should've gotten extra legumes for later this week since Holy Week ends tomorrow Hmmm I don't think my mother ate her legumes yet #MissionGoStealMyMamaLegumes SN: as I was leaving I noticed a 3 tables and chairs outside for possible outside sitting. The plaza (not inside the restaurant) can use a little TLC so outside sitting doesn't seem optimal at this time. There's also pedestrian traffic since there's a laundry in close proximity.
