What a gem this place is for an enjoyable breakfast experience to start your weekend. Friendly staff welcome you to this small comfortable location where a tasty breakfast awaits you. I had breakfast burrito that included three fresh scrambled eggs, cheese, and some crispy hashbrowns. It was the best breakfast burrito I have ever had. The side of sausage patties was also a winner. We sat inside but had a window to look out on water where a small group of seals played. Others in my group had pancakes, croissant sandwich, French toast, and some beautiful avocado toast. They have some wonderful looking baked goods, mimosas, and a lunch/dinner menu as well. We live just down the beach, so this is more than convenient. We try to go every weekend to have breakfast together and check out the sea life. With the start of cooler weather, you need to bring two things to the cafe. One is a warm coat, the door to the outside dining area is left open so the indoor temperature is the same as the outside. Second is a magnifying glass so you can read the menu. The font size on the menu is so small as to be unreadable to aging eyes. I ordered the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were light and fluffy but the gravy was a bland flavorless mushroom gravy without a hint of seasoning. The operating hours are limited to weekends (Friday to Sunday) . There were four staff behind the counter yet ordering is left to walking up to the counter and silverware and coffee is self serve. This business needs to reassess its staffing and what that staff is supposed to do. so I can't see the long term viability of this business. read more

First of all, this cafe is BACK open (July 20, 2025) and we had REALLY high hopes for it to be like the old Barbies. Folks, it wasn't. Not even close. Terrible service, very mediocre food and wait times were over 1 hour and 15 minutes to get very simple breakfast items. I ended up not eating until 12:15 when we arrived at 11. It wasn't very good. Let me explain. I used to come to this place for the awesome food and old town vibes it had circa 2011. It was so quaint, sitting behind the general store through a narrow opening. It had outdoor seating too and still does. It had this awesome thrift-store, home town charm to it. floors weren't level, old furniture, etc. What it had was GREAT biscuits and gravy. The kind you go back for over and over. Now it's a sterile, remodeled (live laugh love) vibe with zero charm or homie comfort. The main problem is the food just isn't that great and the wait is totally ridiculous as well. If I'm gonna wait for over an hour for food, it better be damn good, homemade food. Like it used to be. I was excited to order the biscuits and gravy, big mistake. The "biscuits" were actually not biscuits at all but some kind of sheet pan cake. Just awful. Light and fluffy, kind of sweet. Literally the opposite of a biscuit. Biscuits are supposed to be dense, salty and buttery. This had almost no flavor to speak of. Not off to good start but read on. Do you like Sysco, industrial, canned gravy? I hope you do if you eat at this place because that's what you're going to get. Flavorless, gelatinous, gray goop that had some sort of vaguely meat-like specks in it covered my sheet-pan "biscuits". I had to douse it with salt and the only hot sauce available, Tabasco, which is arguable the worst of all possible hot sauces to put into a modern restaurant. Is it 1990 again? I wish it were because I could probably get an old fashioned biscuit like I could in 1990. I'm not sure Tabasco helped but I ate it anyway because after waiting over an hour, I was starving and so were my kids. (don't take kids here, they won't like it) Rapid Fire points: Bacon: small and anemic. Pretty awful TBH. Costco pre-cooked is better. Eggs Benedict: Basically it was similar to what you can get at Denny's but had better ham and plenty of it. It just wasn't good. Everything seemed like something trying to be good that kind of looked good on the outside but just not cutting it on any level as far as flavor. Pricing was just OK but for the money I will just go literally anywhere else and eat better for less, faster. Pancake House has it dialed in pretty well. Go there. Folks, it's diner food. I'm not very sophisticated. Save your money. One more thing, though. We waited so long we ordered mimosas. They were VERY tiny pours. About 4oz and measured out with some device. Look, if you're not going to offer to comp me for anything in my meal, at least you can apologize with a heavy pour. Or even an adult-sized pour. Literally everything about this experience ticked me off to the extent that I had to sit down and write this. I predict this place will close again. Why? All of this, but there was something more. My wife walked up to the counter to meekly whisper "When do you think we will be served?" (this was about an hour and 5 mins in). The woman behind the counter was apologetic but my wife asked how much longer. She said something like "It will be up very soon" "You're next" so I piped in, again, politely. "How much longer as far as time? Like how many minutes? We need to get going soon because we are expecting someone at our house". The lady who I now recognize as Barbie herself shot a look at the counter lady of irritation. "It's up now, on the grill", she hissed. I felt sorry for the lady so I sat back down and waited. Our food arrived about 5 minutes later. Not even piping hot. The restaurant business is like any other business, it's a three-legged stool. Service, value, cost. Some sort of combination of similar values. If it's cheap, someone will forgive you the service or the quality or value. If the service is incredible and fun, someone will forgive you for being slow or expensive. If the food is fantastic and you warn the customers it's gonna be over an hour but you literally can't get this food anywhere else, they're gonna forgive you because it's THAT GOOD. But if your stool has none of these legs, you better get busy building them or warning your customers because once word gets out, it won't be long before nobody shows up. read more

Very good food. Smoked salmon eggs bene was very delicious, as was the croissant breakfast sandwich. Would like to return for their lemon ricotta pancakes and several of their lunch items. Service was great and location is unbelievable...right on the water. It's the kind of location nobody can beat. That said, drink options are probably the worst I've ever seen in a restaurant with such delicious food. If you aren't into booze like mimosas or wine, then drip coffee or cans in a cooler are all you get AND no ice. We, along with many others, were drinking very warm water from a nice container that just sits out on counter. Now, I know the pop is cold from the fridge, but that gets warm and yucky quickly and it's not like this place is super fast---how could it be, it's all fresh made. If I slowly enjoyed my beverage at all while I waited the 20+ min for food, the drink would be gross by mealtime. I understand this place is small, but cold drinks (with ice) in regular glasses is very important to me. I know management knows this to some extent because the mimosas and other boozy options are all served in beautiful glassware (none requiring ice, though, lol. I can't stand it when my pop goes warm, especially in a can. I generally won't finish it and throw it away. That's why we didn't bother with the cans. Of the seven of us in our family, I'm only semi-opinionated on this subject, too. There are people in my circle that would not eat there because of the poor non-alcoholic drink options. We would all gladly pay plenty more for a self-serve soda fountain or fresh brewed ICED tea. We spent like $45 on breakfast for two with only warm water to drink. With the quality of the food and the proximity to our home, we would have paid another more for a refillable cold ICED soda or fresh ICED tea option. If that isn't possible, at least an ice machine and glasses for the canned soda. That fridge is taking up some space that could be used iced beverages in some way. Bottom line, Barbie's main food is absolutely first rate, service and location are awesome!! Drinks options are unworthy of this gem and need to be addressed. As I said, they are losing locals here because warm water was the logical choice for everyone in our party. I don't think I know anyone who particularly likes warm water, do you? I went to the place after hearing about it so much from the other people I know - went with a group of fellow Navy wives during lunchtime. The place was so homely and the waitresses were so nice! I had a seafood salad and it was amazing! Lots of crab meat and yummy shrimp along with this awesome raspberry vinaigrette - and this is coming from a girl who really doesn't eat salads that often....and don't get me started about the pies! They're to die for! I had an apple pie a-la-mode, I tried some of the other pies the other ladies had (like the Kahlua pie and the peanut butter creme...OMG YUM!!!) - took a piece of the peanut butter creme home for an after-dinner dessert. Update (8/22/12) - I went a second time a while back for breakfast with a fellow Navy wife and had their crab eggs benedict. Lots of crab meat, eggs cooked perfectly...the Hollandaise sauce was rather bland and that made me kinda sad. That still won't stop me from coming here! There's still lots to try! xD read more

I didn't actually eat here, but loved the friendly and helpful attitude of a gal working here this past Saturday afternoon. We came over to Seabeck for a barbecue and because I was in dire need of caffeine and the espresso shop next to Barbie's had just closed, I walked into Barbie's (which is in back of the General Store) and asked if they served to-go coffee. While the gal apologetically indicated they didn't have any coffee, because they had actually closed at three that afternoon, she walked me up to the front of the General Store to where they normally have coffee (and that I had overlooked when I entered the store). The gal consulted with the store cashier to ensure that the coffee was fresh (it was indeed fresh) and that creamer and sweetener were available. I like that kind of service! FYI - this was my first time on the Hood Canal, and I was very impressed with the scenery. But I would not want to have to take the commute from here to Seattle like many people do (this involves driving and a ferry, and getting up at 3:30am). read more

Barbie is now just a mean old Barb. She was in her closed down cafe making sandwiches over Memorial Day weekend. I popped my head in from the store just to say hi as I felt I knew her. My husband and I used to eat there often before he died. I said hi, she turned around and blasted "what do you want?" all nasty and growly. I said "nothing, just to say hi." She pointed at the door and snapped "get the Hell out of here!" Shocked, I apologized and all she could spew from her mouth was "I'm having a bad day. Now get out of here." We have really wanted to try Barbie's for some time, and finally had the chance today. We were greeted immediately and seated. My husband and I both chose their club sandwich, I ordered mine without mayonnaise. And, then the wait began. They really weren't that busy, just three or four tables with two already eating their food. We waited forever....25 minutes....for cold sandwiches and potato chips. The food finally came, and it looked great, but they put mayonnaise on mine. Afraid that it would take another 25 minutes to fix, I decided to suck it up. The sandwich was actually very good, aside from the mayo slathered throughout. The waitress apologized for the mayonnaise, and offered us a dessert. This was really nice of her, and we accepted. We tried their apple dumpling, which was good. The price for two club sandwiches and two drinks came to $30.00....that is really expensive for sandwiches! This wonderful, local bite of Seabeck flavor has REOPENED, Wednesday-Sunday, lunch only, 11am-2pm. We are singing for joy. Something to know: they are CASH ONLY. There is an ATM in the store. Sandwiches and their terrific soups are back, and all those crazy good desserts. Barbie's beautiful face behind the counter, along with cute, bubbly new servers. I've been cruising by Barbies for years and never tried it. Since I was visiting last week, I picked up my sister and headed over. It's a great little place on a small pier next to a general store and a small pizza shack. There's one other art/nick-knack store...and that's Seabeck! It's beautiful. Barbie's is small, but the food was outstanding. The clam chowder was suspiciously similar to Ivar's....which I love! (It's not Ivar's, it's home made) Their sandwiches were made with care, unique and delicious. The view from the table was spectacular. There's an old floating dock out in the water, and seals were sunning themselves on it! They have binoculars sitting on the window seal so you can watch the wildlife on the bay. The service is outstanding, very friendly. They take their time to make it right. Barbie's is a must do from now on. read more

I continue to consider Barbie's my favorite local place to eat on the Kitsap Peninsula. I absolutely LOVE their kickin' krab chowder - it's like crab and corn chowder with a little jalapeno in it. I also love their cole slaw here that has some bits of pineapple and candied pecans in it. Several times we have gone to Barbie's and seen bald eagles soaring around the docks outside the restaurant. Cute little place to eat in Seabeck...wait, where the hell is Seabeck??? Came here for lunch and it was really good. It's on the water and has the country/nautical decor going on. I ordered a bowl of the special jalepeno/crab chowder...BOMB! It was served with 2 huge pieces of toast and it was delicious. I also ordered the yellow fin sandwich and it was really good. It was a little on the messy side because the bun got soggy but tasty overall. I think next time I will try something different like a chili burger or salmon club. The side of macaroni salad was also a nice surprise. After stuffing my face I had enough room to plow down a piece of homemade chocolate cake. It was moist and VERY good. They make all of the pies/cakes in house and all of them looked good. I'm a chocoholic so... Servers were friendly and nice. This cafe deserves 6 stars. I live on the road with a virtually limitless expense account. My wife and I love to explore unknown areas and decided to check out more of the hood canal. In our wander we came across Seabeck about lunch time so we stopped in this quaint little cafe. I didn't expect much as we are rarely impressed by the small town restaurants in washington but I have to say we were not only impressed by the food but the service was great and friendly. I ordered Tuna Melt (not on the menu) and it was the BEST I have had! I have one thing to say... Barbie has to name it Todd's Tuna Melt or I'm not coming back... Jk All in all this is a well kept, very clean cafe with good food and great service. Check it out for yourself. Btw. The view is awesome and leave room for pie. read more

The setting here can't be beat. Barbie is friendly, welcoming and engaging and the scenery of the Olympics is breathtaking. This restaurant appears to be a great find - a small diner looking like something out straight out of the 1960's. We start to salivate. We are greeted by someone whom we assume is Barbie. It is later confirmed that this is the matriarch of this popular establishment. We ask to sit on the deck, as it is a glorious sunny day, and we are offered a spot on a bench although the deck is filled with customers. Barbie is very accommodating. We are served water and soft drinks as we peruse the menu. We chose a menu item, relay this to the staff and sit back in the sun and relax and wait for the fantastic menu item to be delivered. And we relax. We take in the great view. Our drinks are refilled and we soak up the sun. And we relax. And our water is refilled again and our diet coke is refilled and we love the refilling of liquids...in this beautiful setting. We sip the cool, crisp water in these magnificent surroundings. And we relax. But our food does not come and we question this, but it is busy and the first nice day in months and so we are still happy. And we relax. And we are happy to soak up the sun and feel our necks sunburn, the necks without sunscreen. We are only here for lunch and you do not need sunscreen for a lunch...only a day in the sun needs sunscreen. But, the food does not come. We are not relaxing. Now our stomachs start to rumble and we start to grumble. And we are hungry but this is a NICE place and the staff is nice also, so we smile. But we are not relaxing. And mommy, next to us, tends to her three hungry children and feeds them candy and rocks them on her knee. And daddy takes them to the nice beach by the nice restaurant. But they are hungry and they want to eat and they are screaming as they don't have their hot dogs and they don't have their grilled cheese. And now mother, father and children are all unhappy and now WE are unhappy. We finally get our long awaited for lunch - a tasty tuna sandwich and decent, not fantastic, potato salad. We can't remember the second order as we have been waiting and "relaxing". And the homemade chocolate cream (mousse?) pie that looks beautiful, alas, seems to be made using cool whip. We had such HIGH hopes. If you want to have an incredible view with a wait time that gives you enough time to pen your first novel, this is the place. I really love this place and eat here often. I love the homemade food. The only item I've had that was not as expected was the grilled salmon sandwhich. It was really dry with no seasoning (but I also had them hold the mayo...). Other than that I love the food here. The service can be hit and miss (I ate here 2 weeks ago with a friend and we were practically ignored by our server, I had to ask the other server for everything)! So it was reflected in my tip. I don't understand all of the great reviews! I've been here 4 or 5 times and left irritated each time. The food is so-so, burgers clearly prepared and frozen ahead of time and then heated up. The desserts are the only exceptional thing on the menu. I've also waited INSANE amounts of time on Sundays to eat here, only to get stuck in the weird "store seating" literally in a convenience store up front. So bizarre. THE BEST HASH BROWNS IN THE WORLD! Whenever I make the trip "home", this place is a MUST on my list for breakfast. From the down-home feel of the dining room with the gorgeous view, to the friendly, courteous staff, and most importantly - the food - I am never disappointed. I almost always order one of the numbered breakfasts, usually two eggs, hash browns, two slices of bacon and sourdough toast. I swear, these are the best hash browns I have ever eaten, and I'll be going back for them as long as Barbie keeps on making them! I used to work here, and rather enjoyed it. But the owner/manager of the restaurant, Barbie Miller, had no problems out of me until she became hostile toward a co worker. Barbie had threatened to harm and kill said co worker and I was involuntarily terminated when she confronted me when she noticed I was not accepting it. I politely responded saying that I will not accept it, and if any attempts of carrying out the threats were to happen in my presence, they would be stopped by me. She did not pay over time, when some of us worked 42-47+ hours, and she fired the other co worker that was being threatened even though they had already put in their two weeks. Barbie's Cafe was supposed to work them for the rest of the two weeks, not fire them off the spot. Barbie is rude, inconsiderate, disrespectful and fake. There's a reason Barbie's Cafe is the best restaurant in Seabeck, it's the ONLY restaurant in Seabeck. About the food, though, I actually enjoyed it. They have a burger that has jalapenos, and wasabi mayo and their potato salad is good. Shea, the cook, is an amazing lady and she made some of the best burgers. Their pies are not all home made, as they claim to be. Their cream pies are made in the kitchen, but the apple, bumbleberry, cherry, all those pies are bought, maybe from Costco in Silverdale. Their ice cream is pretty good, I loved scooping it for the kids who dropped by. read more

Dropped in to Barbies around 11:40 AM for a burger only to find they serve breakfast ONLY until noon!! The waitress asked if they could start early but you could tell from the body language of the staff that wasn't going to happen! Personally, I think 12:00 noon is a bit late for a breakfast to lunch changeover (especially when you've been since 5:00 AM to go fishing) but I guess when you're the only dance in town/area you can call the shots. I go to Barbies when in the Seabeck area but this sorta took the shine off the place. Rigid inflexibility and weird, in my opinion, operating hours. The ambiance is cute, and the view is superb. However, the service is hit or miss. Sometimes cheerful, sometimes surly, but always slow. The food is medicore at best. We had wanted to try Barbie's since we moved up here last year. It was a perfect day to sit on the deck and enjoy a late lunch. Our waiter brought us water and my drink and then disappeared. A couple seated after us ordered their meal which is the only way we knew there were specials as when he finally returned to our table he said nothing. Ordered a hot dog, the special and a 2nd ice tea. 20 minutes later after no contact from the wait staff we had to ask for our tea. Still no meal and no contact from the staff. No "sorry for the delay, can I refill your tea"? In the meantime the couple who came in after us had been served, finished, paid and left Finally got up and chased down the waiter and asked how much longer. His response was " you came after the end of the lunch rush".
