Met up with some friends for a get together. Very convenient near Union Square. Happy hour is only if you sit at the bar. We opted just to sit at a table since it's easier to chat. It was close to last call when we came but made it to order. I got the lavender lemonade and shared the eggplant and falafel which came with bread. Lemonade was not overly sweet. Falafel and eggplant tasted very authentic and right amount to share if not too hungry. Service is fast and attentive. It is a beautiful restaurant!

I came here for a work dinner. I had to email them because there were more than 10 of us. If there are more than 10 people, you have to do a pre-fixe menu. It's 4 courses for $95 and you pick between lamb and steak. We chose steak menu. When I arrived, they had me confirm how many people were in the party. I had said 13 but it was actually only 12. The hostesses were being weird when they asked me to confirm because they hadn't set up our table yet. So I had to count each person with me since we were all there but they also could have helped me count.... Some of the standouts from the pre-fixe menu were: - bread: we loved the bread that came with the different dips - heirloom cauliflower: this was honestly one of the best things we ate!! - calamari: solid calamari We also got wine and cocktails: - Olympia: I love strawberry and prosecco so this was up my alley! - basilica: I loved how refreshing this was Service was great overall - other than the hostesses being weird when I was checking in. All around amazing meal and the vibes were great inside.

Fab as always, enjoyed the hummus and spicy feta. We also got the salmon, Israeli chopped salad and the tuna crudo. Salmon was perfectly cooked. Fresh, delicate flavors on the tuna. Overall fab meal again.

Was in the city for a comedy show at the Gramercy Theatre Friday night and wanted to have dinner after. We threw out a random search and stumbled upon Barbounia less than a 10 min drive away and we were SO happy we did. We were able to make a reservation for 15 mins later before we headed over. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. It was very busy and bustling and the music was loud. The ambiance in here is beautiful! The decor is very modern gives very European vibes and with fall colors on the floral decorations and they just mesh so well. Service: was really good. It seemed to be all hands on deck. Everyone was helping and checking in on each table. Prices are reasonable as well. Drinks: we only had 1 round because we were already drinking at the show. I had the "smoking fruit" cocktail and my date had the Sauvignon Blanc. The cocktail was pretty good. Food: we started with the grilled octopus, calamari, and spicy feta served with bread. Everything was amazing. The octopus was grilled perfectly and wasn't chewy at all. The calamari was fried perfect. The spicy feta was fresh but not spicy at all though, not even like black pepper level spicy so not sure why the name. For entrees we had the branzino and the chicken shish kebab with a size of grilled mushrooms. The entrees were really good but the mushrooms were amazing! We thoroughly enjoyed every single dish we had and enjoyed the service and atmosphere. Would definitely go back and would recommend.

Had lunch at Barbounia with my friend and we were able to snag a cozy corner table. Our server was super attentive without hovering -- water always filled, checked in the perfect amount. I ordered the chopped salad with added chicken, and it was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what I wanted in a mid-day meal. Definitely on the pricier side for what it is. Loved the ambiance and the service, but an additional $12 for grilled chicken on top of a $23 salad seems a bit steep, that being said the portions are large. Still, great spot for a catch-up lunch if you're in the area and don't mind spending a bit more for the atmosphere.

I'm not normally one for a highbrow dining, but this restaurant really hit the mark. Service is impeccable, we've been three times now and every waiter has been amazing. The food is delicious and the menu is thought out. The assortment of dips with bread is an amazing starter. We really enjoyed the duck, the lamb, and the vegetable dishes. The desserts are not to be missed. Definitely make the trek to NYC and give this a try for a fancy night out.

The cozy side walk seating at Barbounia caught my eye and I knew I wanted to make my way back on a day with good weather. The restaurant is designed nicely and the service was very prompt, especially as I got there just before dinner. I didn't get any food and just had a few drinks. Unfortunately, I could not justify paying the prices for the small portions of food I saw online. This place ropes itself off as a special occasion place, which is fine, because $20 for a non-alcoholic drink is crazy! You are definitely paying for the vibe, which might be more present at dinner time. I didn't feel compelled to have a $100 lunch on this day.

The ambiance is great, and good service as well! Food wise my lamb kofta was ok, nothing above average. The portion was large which was nice. The initial dips and bread were very good. We were with one vegetarian and it looked like there was only one option under their main dishes. Overall it was a good experience, but nothing stood out to come back

We had a wonderful experience here. From the service to the food, it was truly a terrific place to relax and enjoy. The appetizers, entrees and the desserts were delicious. I was so full I couldn't even eat anymore.

Very cool spot-stopped in with 6 others on a Monday afternoon during the winter holiday season-as they were not busy we were seated right away by a warm hostess. The place was decorated very nicely and appropriate for Christmas time. Waitstaff was excellent, as was the food. If you like Mediterranean food you can't go wrong here.

Great spot for Mediterranean in NYC. Had I not come here with a bunch of vegetarians, I wouldn't have had a good fortune of enjoying their homemade falafel. Hands down the best falafel I've had from any Mediterranean place in the US. Everyone was very professional and quick. It was an airy atmosphere and we were seated relatively quickly. Reservations helped of course. We were a party of 10, I believe. Everything was attended to without any awkward or prolonged waiting. Nice place for a lunch on a crisp fall day.

Amazing on every single level!! How the f does this place have a 3.7 rating. This has got to be some mistake. Food, service and atmosphere are all top notch and I'm speaking from experience because we've dined in some of the most popular highly rated restaurants in Manhatten. Yelp needs to do better lol. Look at Google and Open Table reviews because this website is way off as far as ratings go and it's not just this restaurant.

Has Barbounia discontinued daily Happy Hour w/the new dining restrictions? I live in neighborhood/am a 'regualar'- stopped by last wk to support & was surprised to discover no HH specials (neither food nor drinks)- disappointing, hope you reconsider!

I have been twice now, once on the East Side and again last night on the West Side, and I came away both times with the same impression: that some places are content to simply be good, over and over, without announcing it. The watermelon salad is sweet and hot at the same time, feta and mint against Italian chile, and it is the right thing to have first. The schnitzel is what it ought to be. The kebab, lamb and beef together, is the thing I would order if I were only allowed one thing. The knafeh cups are better on the East Side, where the crisp kataifi is laid over the cream rather than baked into a shell around it. On the West Side you have to break into the cup before you get anywhere. On the East Side the spoon goes straight down through the crunch and into the cream, and that is the whole difference. But it is the people I keep thinking about. They are kind without performing kindness, which is harder than it sounds. Last night I watched the room work, water poured, plates cleared, dishes set down, and it was never quite the same hand doing it, and never once the wrong one. A floor moves that way only when everyone on it is paying attention to everyone else. Two visits, two neighborhoods, one restaurant. I suspect that is the point.
