Eating at Shukette always fills me with such joy knowing that each time I eat here the cuisine will enthrall. After making the reservation, I peruse the menu picking the daisy deciding what to eat. On this visit, Chef Ayesha was here and I had the good fortune to speak to her and shake her hand. What a charming lady! I feasted on Labneh topped with strawberries, pickled fennel and herbs. Frena mopped up each morsel. Shukette Cherries was new on the menu and had oomph with a tangy marinade of lime, cilantro and serrano chili. The Pea Party 4.0 of snap peas, asparagus, pea shoots and snow peas was a bright chlorophyll color and tasted refreshing. Egyptian spiced chicken wings were simply mouthwatering. Dipped into a ramekin of white harissa flecked with sumac, this sauce is divine. I had a non alcoholic summer drink that Joseph had recommended. At Shukette, the server will tell you if one has ordered too much which Vladimir did. It's easy to get full quickly which happened to me and I could only manage three wings. When Vladimir came to ask if I wanted dessert, I requested a wheelbarrow instead. He giggled. My desire is to eat at Shukette once a month and so far it has been a dream come true. Came here after seeing the chef on the Food Network. Had high hopes for this meal but was very disappointed. The entrees were limited to 4 and the appetizers all had spices i dislike - harissa, garlic, cilantro, etc. Also when is a bread course $13? Also did not appreciate after leaving a nice tip the bottom of the check it was printed "would you like to leave a further tip?" Really, one and done for us. Such a delicious evening! Walked over on a Thursday evening without a reservation just to see if we could get on a list or if they had any cancellations and we lucked out! They had 2 seats ready to go at the bar. The hosts were super nice and sat us down and Joseph immediately came to get us started. (Super good looking guy, btw) We ordered the dipping bread with a dip that we asked to be surprised with. It was the green one and it was SO tasty!! Loved the atmosphere here. Lively, upbeat, upscale yet relaxed and casual all at the same time. Hip hop and RnB playing so the noise level is a little higher than some other restaurants. Staff was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and inventive and step away from traditional middle eastern cuisine. The Frena bread was delicious, the labneh was the perfect dip. If you can get the cherries while you are there, they are definitely worth trying. Everything I tasted was very good and I was pleased with amount of vegetarian options. We chose Shukette for our 14th wedding anniversary dinner - looking for something fun, delicious, and maybe a little splurgy.* Our server, who's name I can't remember, was outstanding. In general, the service was far above expectations for a "fun" restaurant. I dropped my napkin twice, and he was there to scoop it up and replace. My wife dropped her fork - same thing. Our extra plates were picked up quickly. Water carafe was filled regularly. We largely went with our server's recommendations for food, after starting with a Tangier drink for my wife and the heaviest red wine available for me - from Lebanon. We both thought the drinks were delicious and paired well with the food. For dips, we chose the Labneh and Smoked Arctic Char with Frena bread. Labneh and bread - some of the best things we have ever eaten. (I'd get the char again, because fish feels healthy.) When we finished the bread, server recommended we try the Lafa bread. Also fantastic, but I would choose 2 Frenas next time. For The Shuk category, we chose Glazed Sweet Potatoes (CAN'T MISS), Roasted Beets (would order again), Shrimp A La Plancha (wouldn't order again - tasty, but hard to eat grilled with shell on - didn't blow me away), and shawarma spiced fries. Fries were affordable and a nice "stuffer" if you had a table. Took away from the "healthy" feel of the meal for me, and weren't worth the space in my tummy that was mostly gone by that point in the meal. Went with the Joojeh chicken next, which was succulent and delicious. I would be happy to eat that again, or try the fish in a cage (which seemed like everyone ordered.) We also added Bang Bang Shata and White Harissa. The Bang Bang was insanely hot for us. We put tiny amounts on things - didn't have the heat strength to take care of much of it. The Harissa was a must if you choose the fries. We finished with The Swirl, which had a nice little candle in it with a "happy anniversary" wish from the person delivering it. Tasty, but we would choose The Mic Drop next time. *Splurgy in the sense that we tried many things - probably 2-3 more things than our stomachs were prepared to hold. Kids finished the leftover fries when we returned home. And one note about noise, since that seems to come up, we found Shukette to be as noisy as an average, lively NYC restaurant. It wasn't bothersome or too loud to hear one another. In summary, we had an amazing experience at Shukette. I'm excited to recommend it to friends and visit again sometime. read more

I'm so glad I found this restaurant! I came for a solo dinner and thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered. I was actually sad I couldn't eat it all myself! Everything you order will be delicious but I recommend the labneh and frena at the very least. I could have eaten just that and been happy. Fair warning: the wait is brutal. Even for just me without a reservation it was 40 minutes on a Tuesday night after 8:30pm. I was also sat outside and was freezing since the heaters didn't reach me. The food all came out quickly and the server constantly checked on me but I definitely felt rushed to eat before I froze to death or all the trains left. Had one of the best meals ever at Shukette. The menu is packed with bold, vibrant Middle Eastern flavors, and every dish we tried completely delivered. We started with the smoked arctic char dip, which was rich, smoky, and perfectly balanced, especially with the fresh frena bread. The broccolini di ciccio stood out with its herbed tahini, pickled shallots, and a great mix of texture and brightness. The shakshuka-style butter beans were incredibly comforting and flavorful, layered with garlic and herbs. The fish in a cage was a highlight. The whole black bass came out beautifully cooked with green charmoula, fennel, and potato, making it both impressive and deeply satisfying. We also loved the pickles, which added the perfect sharp contrast to the meal. Their signature bang bang shata hot sauce deserves a special mention. We had a reservation and were seated outside right in the front. I knew there could be a problem when we sat down and there were purple blankets on the chairs. Soft blankets, but still, I was worried Our menus flew away so I went inside and asked if we could sit somewhere else. They were able to sit us on the side of the restaurant outside under a plastic enclosure. Sitting down I was a little bit worried because the chairs at the table seemed really rickety until I met Juan. I forgot all about the rickety chairs and tables once Juan and the food entered my life. Juan is a bright shiny star so happy self friendly so warm and he told us everything to order. He didn't lead us astray once and we love that in a waiter. This time during our our New York visit we were not only discussing our food we are also our waiters. As the hummus was being served, I was telling my table that I don't eat hummus anymore. I found a reason to go back on that here. A must order would be the very first bread in the bread slices for handstands down. So I must've said that it was my birthday when I made the reservation which my birthday is this month and our dessert came with a candle and Juan sang happy birthday to me. It was so freaking cute. I was with two non-dessert eaters but they dove in and I seriously got no more than 1/3rd of it, not one slurp bite or morsel more. I wanted to order another. The only chains I'd make is that I wish there were more bathrooms. I felt bad for the waitstaff peeking at the line and choosing not to stand in it. I'm late to the party on this one, but I (finally) made it to Shukette and now I understand why reservations are still so hard to get. The menu is veggie forward, so there are plenty of (delicious) options for vegetarians and vegans. To start, we ordered the Frena bread, Labneh, and Beet Tzatziki. All three were excellent - no notes. The Frena bread is so good, it really deserves it's own post. We shared the Heirloom Carrots, Glazed Sweet Potatoes, and Charred Broccoli di Ciccio as our "mains" and WOW. Shukette knows how to make you eat your veggies. The carrots and sweet potatoes are melt in your mouth delicious. The broccoli is the only dish I wouldn't order again. To finish, we had the Mic Drop Tahini Soft Serve. It's huge (translation: easy to topple over), and the perfect, subtly sweet end to the meal. This is going straight to the top of my favorites list, and I can't wait to go back. read more

My wife and I went to Shukette for the first time last week with some friends. We had heard a lot about it. My wife and I had slightly different takes. We ordered the frena, hummus, roasted beets, bourekas, pickles, fries, steak kebab, and the tehina soft-serve. Eveyone really liked the frena, hummus, fries and steak. I don't like beets much, but the others in our group liked it a lot. I thought the sweet potato bourekas were both unusual and great. The selection of pickles was, in my view, a bit odd, and more hot than sour. My wife was very disappointed with the tehina softserve in part due to the pomegranate flavoring. The service was great. The place is busy and a cool venue. First and foremost the service is Impeccable. The food menu have many options. We tried: The hummus, the Frena (Moroccan bread) were terrific. Glazed sweet potatoes were tasty. The asparagus was good and didn't need the aleppo spice. The steak kabob was ok but my wife didn't like it. The shrimp plancha is grilled with the shell on that should be mentioned in menu. Not a fan. Jeweled rice was my least favorite by far. The back Home Beer 'persian Blue' was delicious. Lucked out and got a counter seat for 5 PM. Got there about 10 min early and to my surprise they were already open. Counter seats do have hooks to hang a coat or bag. The seats are also nailed down to the floor and can't be moved. A little hard to get on. Interesting view at counter since you're able to see all the chef action which I found fascinating Noise level is 10 on a scale of 1-10. Wait staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The star of the show seems to be The Shuk which is a large variety of small sharable plates. There's about 4 main entrees. The Moroccan bread (Frena) I had was to die from. You could smell the roasted garlic as it was being brought over. Labneh was delicious esp with strawberries which was new for me. Just a little too thick for my taste. The inside was also not too loud and had a great ambiance for friends to catch up or go on a date. We had to wait a bit even though we had made reservations but there was a small waiting area so it wasn't too bad. I would recommend sharing plates as everything on the menu sounds good! Was finally able to try this spot out and managed to get a reservation day of by the counter for a weekday dinner. Getting the counter seat was actually so much fun because you get to see the pass, the craziness of the dinner rush, and every dish made in front of you. We originally ordered the Lafa, but had to get the Frena after seeing it get ordered so often and it's literally the best bread ever - sooo fluffy and crispy on the bottom. Calamari dish was a miss for me, but my friend liked it. For entree, we got fish in a cage and chicken. The chicken was oh so moist and something I'd come back for (+ the frena). Fish in a cage came with zhoug and their hot sauce, the latter being my favorite I had to order another one. The fish was a bit overcooked and not flaky in texture, but flavor wise was good. We were told that the food would arrive as it is made, and not in the order it was ordered. Came here Valentine's weekend. The restaurant looks well decorated and has a covered patio. It was extremely hard to snag a reservation but managed to grab one for the outdoor patio. I highly recommend making a reservation for this spot. We saw people waiting a long time for tables to open up. We had reservations for the chef counter, which overlooks the kitchen. It was fascinating being able to watch the flow of the kitchen, seeing how each dish is made and who owns each step of the process. Our server was friendly and attentive. He provided insightful menu recommendations throughout the meal. We started with the Frena and Labneh. Both were fantastic. I see why people come here just for the Frena. The crunch is so satisfying. The Labneh is equally craveable. That hot honey adds the perfect hint of sweetness to break through the tart base. Next we ordered a selection of dishes from The Shuk section of the menu. We got the Charred Kale, Egyptian Spiced Grilled Wings, Shawarma Spiced Fries, and Shukette Pickles. All were wonderful. As a fry snob, my favorite bites were the Shawarma Fries. Highly recommend getting either the Toum or White Harissa sauce on the side to dip - preferably both! For the finale, we shared the Fish in a Cage. This was a super moist and flavorful dish. I don't eat whole fish frequently, but they make it easy to navigate. The head comes off easily and the body has already been filleted for you. There were a couple small bones throughout, so eat with caution. For dessert we shared The Swirl. I expected it to be very sweet, but it definitely leans more tart. Combined with the nuttiness of the tahini, you get a super craveable dessert which doesn't taste like it's packed full of sugar. Shukette screams fun date night or night out with friends. I can safely say that I had the best meal of 2025 here last night for my Birthday. Everything we ordered was beautifully plated, quickly made, and an absolute flavor bomb that left me making this face after every single bite: 8-O We ordered the frena bread, arctic char spread, and the labneh spread topped with pomegranate syrup. We also got the halloumi and the joojeh chicken. Everything was remarkable. The labneh spread was our favorite bite but--we'd order everything all over again. I love this restaurant - it's a go to when I have friends visiting! Definitely recommend making a reservation if you're going on the weekend and note that it is difficult to sit parties larger than 4 (unless previously reserved). They do have an outdoor area that is enclosed and heated in the winter. The dips and shuk are perfectly shareable - my favorite dips are the labneh and smoked arctic char, and my favorite shuks are the cauliflower, halloumi, and wings. They change the menu up pretty frequently, but a few of those are staples. For main sharing dish, I usually rotate between the fish and the chicken - both are good, I might like the chicken a little better. I think I prefer a more savory versus sweet dip Frena- this bread was delicious. It had a focaccia type taste and texture and tons of garlic... the best part. Just wish it came with the dip and wasn't so expensive. $15 for a small bread to share. Adana- beef and lamb, was perfectly cooked and spiced... but also didn't come with pita or any kind of bread so we ate it alone. Would have been nice to have it with something. Shawarma fries- a bit burnt in the sense that it was all crispy throughout instead of just the outside and none of the soft bite in the middle that I love with perfectly cooked French fries. Skip it. Tahini soft serve - it was good but a little disappointing but not enough pomegranate and sauce to cut through the soft serve. In Conclusion- I would 10/10 come back here just for the labneh and frena bread. Would still recommend to all my friends. I love middle eastern food so I got to try two new places while in New York for work. Skukette was the second place, and I got to share a meal with one of my friends! We came on a Monday and it was beyond packed! Luckily, we had a reservation, so make sure you do too! Things we ordered: *Char dip - this was really good *Frena - this was lovely and fluffy and I loved the big chunks of garlic! *Crispy eggplant - this was amazing and easily my absolute favorite thing we had! I would literally come back just for this! *Lamb kebab - perfectly cooked and I loved the figs it came with My friend and I sat at the bar, so we got to witness all the food get made and come out, so it was fun to see all the food and eyeball what we should order. That said, there were moments when it was really hot as they fired certain dishes. I will say that the service was meh in that our server wasn't exactly engaging and didn't make any recommendations in terms of number of plates or things that can't be missed. I will also add that the place was loud! We were seated right next to each other and between the talking/shouting out orders and the place being full, it was very very loud and somewhat overwhelming. read more

I know this hit a New York top 100 but I think on principle, I have to dock it not just on taste and experience, but how the menu is structured. The food was all good (about a 4/5). My highlights from the meal were the carrot dip. It was fresh and the nuts in it added a layer of complexity to it. The breads were also good, especially the Moroccan bread (better than what I had when I was in Morocco) and the bread with corn butter on it. The hummus was decent, the fries were abundant, and the cucumber peach salad was refreshing but too expensive for what it was. My issue with this place is that when you buy a dip, it doesn't come with any bread at all, forcing you to buy both. Each bread only comes with one piece and when a single pita is $7 (which definitely isn't enough for a dip), it becomes a little bit ridiculous. Server had great vibes though! read more

My last visit to Shukette was in 2023 and everything was flawless. Unfortunately, my second visit today was not as successful. The hummus and french fries were, as always, fantastic, as was the Frena. However, my lamb kebab entree was dry, small and one-note in flavor ($29 btw). Other duds were the Charred Broccoli and Pickles. For a $200+ meal, it was truly disappointing. Service was great once inside, but the check-in experience is a mess. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to come here, but Shukette might just be my new favorite Middle Eastern restaurant in NYC. I've been to Shuka, and this is even better. Our waiter, Vlad, gave great recommendations. We started with a floral gazoz, the frena and labneh, which was topped with strawberries and hazelnuts. OMG, I could have gone to heaven right there! Next we had tempura fried squash blossoms that were stuffed with a goat cheese and served with this incredible tomato dip. Then we shared a lamb skewer that was served on a bed of hummus and broccolini. The meat, which was marinated in ras al hanout, was perfectly spiced and cooked and every flavor on the plate only further enhanced it. Dessert was the only dish we didn't find a 10/10 but the tahini soft serve was still quite good. Very vibe-y restaurant with solid food and service. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Not sure if they also had it outside but I appreciated the coat racks inside by each table. There seemed to be a bit of a wait so I was glad we made a reservation ahead of time. We ordered 5 dishes to share between 4 people and were all satisifed at the end. A bit pricy overall but I liked it and would recommend trying at least once Labneh: 4/5. Pretty good and didn't have much to complain about it. I just don't love cream cheese in general so I probably wouldn't order a whole plate like this again Boureka: 4/5. I liked this but it wasn't my favorite compared to the frena Roasted corn: 5/5. I came here for a family style meal for my friend's birthday. She raves about her absolute favorite restaurant in the city and I'd previously heard good things as well. For a restaurant with a trendy reputation, it was pretty casual. We had an outdoor table. They have really powerful fans overhead, which were maybe a little too strong but good for a hot summer day. The waiters were very attentive to us and we had excellent service throughout the night. We told them we were celebrating a birthday. The fare is Mediterranean/ Middle eastern and are meant to be shared family style. They have a lot of bread options. We had the frena bread, which was everyone's favorite and we also had pita with hummus and labneh. Next time, I'd like to try the bourek too (I live halloumi). For veggies, we had zucchini, cucumbers and the shukette cherries. The cherries were the wildcard for me which I surprisingly ended up liking. They're savory cherries and were seasoned almost like a ceviche with a nice lime taste. I really enjoyed those. For me meats we had the chicken wings, the beef and lamb kofta and fish in a cage. Of the three I thought the kofta were probably the most flavorful followed by the chicken but none was particularly a standout. The fish was a little bland and the sauce leaned a little spicy. For sides we had the rice (I didn't try this) and the fries. I really liked the fries and they were probably my favorite thing on the main menu (not sure if that's good or bad). They were well seasoned and very crispy. Great crunch. Finally, just before we wrapped up the night, we sampled their tahini soft serve and blueberry sorbet, which are their two desserts. Both were great. The tahini is nutty and especially good if you like halva. Overall, it was a good night. It didn't wow me the way I was expecting or hoping but it's a nice place to come with a group. read more
