Pizzata is our top choice in Center City for artisanal, neighborhood pizza. While we occasionally order from chains, this is easily our favorite local takeout option. Their plain pies strike a great balance between thin crust and traditional hand-tossed pizza. My wife prefers thinner pizza, while I lean toward something with a bit more structure, and somehow this lands perfectly in the middle. The large plain pie is also very fairly priced for Center City these days, especially considering the quality. A large plain pie with no toppings generally feeds about three people, depending on appetite size, maybe four if people are eating lightly. The garlic knots are excellent, pickup times are reliable, and the place always feels lively. They've clearly built a loyal neighborhood following. I look forward to trying more specialty pies, especially the Brooklyn Upside Down. What I appreciate most is that it feels like a real neighborhood pizza spot, not overly polished or trendy, just consistently very good. The pizza also feels a bit different from a classic New York-style pie in a way that's hard to describe but really works. We've ordered it in for friends and family visiting from out of town, and people are always impressed. Pizzata sets up tables in good weather for casual dinners with kids. Pizzata, your round pie crust shines (cracker thin, crispy, crawnchy, no flop) but the rest.... Definitely room for improvement. While I can't speak for a bulk of their menu, I can say that I was left wishing I had ordered their pizza al' tagglio instead of the classic, "Queen Margherita." We arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday night, not realizing they close at 9, and were among the last customers to order. So, a little PSA!!! Get there earlier if you're out and about on the weekend. The cashier's energy made it pretty clear the staff was ready to wrap up for the night, and unfortunately, that seemed to carry over into the overall experience. Our order took about 20 minutes to come out, and while the crust was addictive, the pizza as a whole felt lackluster. The sauce was your rather basic crushed whole peeled tomatoes that seemed hand crushed and spread thinly over the perfectly crisp crust. And I do mean perfect folks. The blobs of half melted mozzarella were randomly scattered atop like a Dalmatian's spots and despite the menu stating parmesan was supposed to be there, I saw no trace. Same goes for the EVOO. Once fresh basil leaves were scattered atop but lost their vibrancy since the had obviously been added to the pie before putting it in the oven. Rating: 7/10 (the crust is the savior here) All in all, I would absolutely give Pizzata another go. The Roman-style pizza gets a lot of love, and after seeing photos of some of their other pies, they've still got me salivating so I am not writing them off just yet. We heard this was a popular place as they won some best roman style pizza and we were really curious about their unique way of slowly fermenting their dough for easier digestion. Their Salsiccia slice is spectacular--a perfect blend of savory sausage, rich tomato sauce, and gooey (and beautiful) mozzarella atop a crisp but airy crust that is found to be beautiful as well as delicious. I usually prefer thick crust, but this thin crust was authentic and savory. They also offer sandwiches and salads. I went at noon on a weekday and found the service to be quick and attentive While the store itself is on the smaller side, its charm and character add to the experience. The quality of the food more than compensates for the cozy setting, making it clear why this spot has received such glowing reviews. The dough had a sourdough kind of flavor (not sure what they use exactly) which I enjoyed but might not be everyone's favorite. Wonderful experience, we sat outside and still had wonderful service. Our son has a severe peanut allergy and the owner himself came out to speak with us numerous times about different foods we wanted to order and even double checked ingredients to be positive. We ordered cheese steak egg rolls, a white pizza with ricotta and a regular red pizza. All three items were delicuous. Finally decided to try this neighborhood pizza place for a simple mid-week dinner at home. We had heard good things about the food so tonight was the night. We went through the menu online and chose a (relatively) basic pie for our first attempt. I made the short walk and found the hole-in-the-wall spot easily and got in line. The half-storefront was skinny and there was storage filling in the spots where the two small tables at the front were not occupying. This is not a place to eat in, unless you like the ambiance of a small table on the sidewalk on busy 22nd street or a cramped spot inside. There were three people in front of me, but the woman at the register was confounded by some element of the order, so it took some time. I spent the wait time reading the rave reviews framed on the walls from Thrillist, Eater, Best of Philly, and others. It sure smelled good while I was waiting. The burrata pizza was ready quickly - in fact, it was waiting when I arrived, so it was not hot when I walked home but we wamed it up before serving. Delicious. Crust was thin and sooooo good. Since pizzata is in my neighborhood, I decided to give this place a try given they sell some of their pizzas per slice. The space to eat inside was limited but luckily there was enough outdoor seating (and it was a great day to eat outside). The pizza slice came out quickly. The whole slice looked like it had freshly came out of the oven with its char all over the pepperoni. The bottom of the pizza also had charred points all over. The pepperoni tasted delicious on the pizza and I loved how crispy the slice was. The crust was definitely very much thin sliced. We tried multiple pizzas from Pizzata today and they were all so good! We had the cheese, pepperoni, and arugula with prosciutto. The flavor of the sauce was extremely tasty and all of the toppings were extremely fresh! The crust was also perfectly crunchy and held all of the toppings well. Enter Pizzata, a spot that prides itself on quality ingredients and naturally leavened dough. The pies at this newly opened pizza joint are flying off the shelves -- Pizzata is only open each night until they run out of ingredients. I ordered my pie at 3:30PM on a Sunday to beat the Eagles game day rush and had no trouble. The pickup was a piece of cake (slice of pie?). A short line had formed outside the door, but with a five-minute wait, I signed the receipt in return for my hefty takeout box. I opted for a Plain red pie with double pepperoni. The pie was a little wonky, and the toppings were somewhat unevenly distributed. Moreover, the "double" pepperoni felt closer to 1.5x (which obviously still trumps 1x pepperoni, but was nonetheless mildly upsetting), but the depth of flavor in each heavenly ring almost made up for that. Yet, just opening the box, my nose was hit with a delicious aroma. Each slice was mouth-wateringly rich, without being overwhelming greasy. The sauce was mildly tangy, complemented by the pleasantly thin, sourdough-esque crust. The crust, while thin, remained crispy without ever feeling flimsy. The basil is a knockout punch, bringing together a solid list of ingredients. The pizzas will run you about $20 -- a tad expensive for a 16" pie, even with the intention to split. While this isn't my absolute favorite pizza in Philly, it's pretty darn good for reasonable walking distance within Rittenhouse. This will certainly be my go-to pickup spot in the future. read more

This is a super friendly local pizza place and Pizzata's crust-loving chefs do not disappoint! We tried Pizzata for take out on a Sunday because they had sold out by 5pm on their soft opening the day prior! They are open for pick up and currently have 2 indoor tables and a small interior. We tried the plain pie - delicious and flavorful - as well as the burrata (on which of course the burrata was the star!). The "naturally leavened dough" creates a crust on this pizza is fabulous. It's crispy with great integrity as well as chewy and soft. All pizzas are finished with EVOO and parmesan (which i honestly could have done without). The service was great and we will be back soon. The crust is thin and crunchy, the texture is similar to the crust of sourdough bread. So if you are expecting a stretchy kind of dough this isn't for you. Because it's thin, the pizza is very light. For anyone wondering why their toppings are skimped it's because there is a spanish dude churning out pies as fast as humanly possibly in the back. He can't take the time to gingerly lay toppings on each pie when he's making 100's a night. After all the hype, I admit to being pretty underwhelmed. Nothing about this pizza really stands out. On the Salsiccia, the sauce doesn't have a lot of flavor and there isn't much on the pie. The crust is too doughy. The cheese was just there. Pepperoni was OK but not great. Stingy with the sausage and it was just so-so. The Mr. Potato was really a disappointment. Thin, dried out chewy slices of potato and not much else except about 2 inches of undercooked dough. That's not how you make a potato pizza at all. My first visit for a cheese Pizza. The shop was clean and cute. But the person taking orders was not a happy camper, not a smile, hello or can I help you. We were the only ones in pizza shop, so we waited and waited . I then said , hello can we order menu was tossed at us. I watch our box sit on the counter for 10 minutes!! At this point we waited to see if she would tell us it was ready .
