WOW!! This was such a fun experience to do with friends. I went with around 9 people and it was spacious enough to do some mini group games, but also split off to enjoy some pinball/individual games. I shared the pork tacos, grilled cheese w/ birria, and the chicken tenders with three friends (and we still had some more that were able to eat it). I personally loved the birria grilled cheese--- such a yummy bite! Service was okay. I asked an employee to help me because I put my tokens in a game and it didn't start. They told me I put it in the wrong slot (went to someone else's game because my machine was apparently out of order), so I expected them to come back or at least clarify what happens after. Instead, they just walked away. As that was the first game my group and I tried, I definitely felt a little dumbfounded but it's truly no biggie. Sunday afternoon munchies led me to Barcade from a search on the Inkind app. Parking is right out front and was available because it was Sunday morning. Can't speak for weekends. I was greeted right when I came through the door and asked for my identification. Please make sure you have your physical drivers license, identification and not a copy. They view it and scan it. They have a detailed sign at the door which is helpful to understand what is acceptable. Doesn't matter if you look underage or not they carded everyone coming in the door. Seems a bit much if you look over 40, but I get they are right in the midst of WSU. Bartender was very pleasant. I ordered Philly cheesesteak egg rolls to go. The order process was easy at the bar. The food took a little time to come out. I was told they were rolled fresh. They were worth the wait. The crunch was heard as soon as I bit it. The sauce was flavorful. At $14, I'm glad they were cooked really well. I don't know how you would enter in a wheelchair. I had to step up in order to enter and there was not a handrail if you need assistance walking stairs. There is a wall near the stairs that could be used as a supportive brace. A railing would be a suggestion even for that one steep step. The target audience seems to be a younger crowd. They have a happy hour during the week noted on the sign outside the door. There is a cute area outside of Barcade and building next door that is a neat place to sit. read more

My primary criteria for a good arcade is that the machines are in working order... At Barcade, in Midtown Detroit, the pinball tables are in fantastic condition, and, most of the video games are also in very good shape, too. The video games are, almost entirely, 25 cents per play. The pinball machines are either 75 cents per play, OR LESS. This is a bargain! I will say that if you MUST have the latest, greatest, BLEEDING EDGE selection of pinball tables, you won't find it here, at least not yet. 5 stars so far... As the astute among us can infer, this place is an also a bar. As such, the beer selection is excellent. Additionally, mixed drinks, including some fun, themed, craft cocktails, are available. I will say, that the beer was a little on the pricey side. But you know what? When you have a decent buzz, you don't seem to care though so much. Atmosphere: Cool and industrial. Clean, including the bathroom. Staff: Once again, cool (and friendly). Although this place doesn't have the same character of the old "Pop + Offworld," it's still pretty cool. I love this place. I have so much fun while I'm here... I can have a couple drinks, play one of my favorite pinball machines (Monster Bash; Medieval Madness), and be near from favorite restaurants. The prices for the machines are pretty reasonable, but they don't do the best job of keeping them in great shape. Many times I've lost a ball in there and it's hard to find someone to take care of it - but they always hand over a few tokens to make up for it. I wish they were open earlier during the week, as I tend to prefer being out and about during the day... but I know that I'm in the minority - so I get it. :( Regardless, I love this place! read more

I'm officially a fan of all Barcade establishments. I've been to the one in Philly, but the Detroit location was a little more intimate. The outdoor space was really nice, and the location allowed children in the early hours, which is a brilliant idea. I don't live in Detroit, so the bar staff was nice enough to give me recommendations for food in the area, even though they themselves serve light snacks. The prices are great, they have all the nostalgic arcade games from my childhood, and the drinks are STIFF. Next time I'm in Detroit, which is soon, I'll likely drop in again. read more

This is a super fun place to play vintage games such as pinball, Pac-Man, and many others. The food and drinks here are quite overly priced for a bar. And it costs .75 cents to play most games which seems very high considering these are very old games. The food came out in a timely manner. I ordered a burger and fries which tasted great and a Ceasar salad which was massive- the Ceasar wasn't bad but for $14 I would not get it again. The bartenders were nice and quick to make drinks. I wish there was a different variety of the cocktails on the menu overall - they were also not that's strong and quite expensive for a non high end bar. There is no cover to get in which is nice. The place has two levels - with all the pinball machine on the top level. It can get quite crowded on the weekends but overall people rotate through games pretty quick. read more

One word: EARTHSHAKER! More words: Bars have it rough here on Yelp. Always have. Always will. Spirits run high when there is alcohol involved. But I'm here to share my wonderful experience at Barcade Detroit. From the person working the door checking every ID, to the personable bartender, to the gracious fellow who was hard at work maintaining the collection of pinball machines, everyone was fantastic. The bouncer was able to answer my question about parking, direct me to one of the Barcade free lots instead, and gave me a quick orientation to the geography of the place in addition to how to order food. My interest was largely pinball. The food and beer offerings were merely a bonus. And the pinball, as you can see above, included one of my favorite classic machines, EARTHSHAKER!. It was in remarkably good condition. Games that were in less than perfect shape were being maintained, and when I ran into an issue with a machine there was a fellow who was able to help. He also pegged me pretty early as a pinballer, and told me about Monday night weekly tournaments. Those may be challenging to work into my schedule, but if an opening comes up, I'm going to give those a try. Eventually, I got a bit peckish and decided to check out the bar menu. It's kinda what you might expect. Lots of fried things. Burgers. Maybe there were wraps too. Not exactly the paragon of health. As all food is these days, it felt a bit more expensive than it should, but so it goes. Inflation is real. In my mind, the most healthful/delicious thing on the menu was going to be the fried chicken strips. Largely because it contained protein to balance out the fat, and didn't have the carbs of a big honking bun and potatoes to boot. I got it with Nashville Hot sauce and blue cheese. Four large planks of chicken, fried to a beautifully crispy texture, tender on the inside and spicy enough to make my head sweat, made me pretty darn happy. The blue cheese dressing was better than expected, but could be improved. My blue cheese standards are very very high. Plus I was able to find a lower ABV beer on the menu that blessedly was not a Hazy IPA. I got to try something new and it went beautifully with the spicy food. I should mention the bartender was both super patient with me, as it took me a very long time to make up my mind about food and drink. He was personable and shared the secret of one of his favorite campy TV shows available to watch for free online. My pinball scores improved after the break, and I was very happy with my progress on the Pulp Fiction machine. I also spied a sit down version of Crazy Taxi, which used to be one of my favorite things to play back in the day. But all of my tokens went to pinball. What can I say, I'm in a real pinball phase at the moment. On a Tuesday night, I had the place pretty much all to myself. Nothing to complain about. The bathroom was full of graffiti, but was generally clean. Only great things to say. If pushed I suppose I would have preferred paper towels in the bathroom instead of just the blower. Perhaps the music could have been turned down a bit over the pinball area? But those are all minor nits. This is a great place and well worth a visit. read more

I love me some vintage video games and pinball ain't too shabby either. Barcade has a mess of them both and, as the name might imply, a bar, too! I'm not a drinker myself but they do serve food as well. You can order at the bar and if you're not camped out there, you can take a number to one of their few tables. The food is pretty basic. I got a couple of decent fish tacos last time but the burger I had previously didn't make much of an impression on me. So you might want to eat at another local establishment before coming to Barcade for games galore. One of my personal faves, Dig Dug, is located right next to the front door, and i notched the high score on two successive trips, the better one being north of 52,000. Lots of old favorites and appealing also rans you might have forgotten about line the aisles. I played Moonwalker for the first time recently and found it to be a lot of fun even if I don't know about Michael "saving" kids. Frogger, Ms. Pac Man, Defender, Asteroids, X-Men, they're all here. I wish they had Paperboy even though it's hard af. I think I heard those trademark dirt bike handlebar controls tend to break down eventually and are expensive to fix. There's several driving games and most of the second level is pinball. I played Star Wars, Infinity War and Alice Cooper recently. The art on the Metallica pinball machine is a hoot. I thought it was Peter Bagge but I looked it up and it's a guy by the name of Donny Gillies. One thing I don't like is Barcade uses tokens and not quarters. I still have some I missed two visits ago in my change jar at home. That's how they get ya! Most games are still just 25 cents though, a bargain in 2023. Pinball is usually three tokens which burns through em quick if you're not all that great like me. Decor is basic black with some videogameesque graphics on the tables by the front door. The games are the star of the show. Lighting is just a bit dim as an arcade should be. I wouldn't mind it being a bit dimmer to be honest. The soundtrack is retro with lots of 80s and 90s metal and alternative. Not music for black people as one Yelper put it. Yeah, they could probably stand to mix it up some with a dash of classic hip hop, a sprinkling of The Gap Band and a touch of Morris Day and the motherfuckin Time! Volume is at a level to make you feel the place is live but not so loud you struggle to hear someone right next to you. The crowd in here can get pretty animated as they play, too. No skeeball, air hockey or those spinning guys soccer games and I'm cool with that. More room for classic video game consoles. Not quite five stars here but Barcade can be a blast. Parking is easy and there's a bike rack right outside. read more

The floors are a bit sticky and the drinks are slightly expensive for what they are, but not unreasonable. The arcade selection was good. Could not get waited on at the bar. Bartender looked my way multiple times and then just walked off and did something else. I get that there are other people up there, but not even an acknowledgment. After about 7 minutes I gave up and went and sat down at my table. Then my boyfriend goes up there and he comes down to wait on him. I asked him, did you see me? He says yeah, but I was making a mental note of who was here first. I said you looked my way multiple times and didn't even acknowledge me. He even came down to my end of the bar and somehow managed to keep his back to me while talking to the guy who was sitting right next to where I was standing. It was obvious I was waiting because I was standing at the bar with nothing in front of me, not sitting. What a great atmosphere! They have a very nice selection of Brew, as well as a decent menu for a bar. The whole premise is a bar with an adult arcade. However I did find out that once a month on a Sunday they have family day. So, if you prefer to go to the bar without children make sure you don't go on that particular day.
