Hands down the best seafood boil I've had, and I've eaten plenty in New Orleans. We went this evening for a birthday and got the family dinner. Two lobster tails, a pound of shrimp, king crab leg, snow crab leg, and mussels as well as corn, eggs, potatoes and sausage for two hundred bucks. Honestly, felt like a good deal and easily fed a family of five. But the quality? Well, like I said, best crab boil I've ever had. You can pick different spice options. We did the crab boil mild and it had just enough spice for a good kick of flavor without overpowering the crab. The shrimp were delicious. The mussels were enormous and flavorful. Oh and the raw oysters? Humongous. Not super briny and if you don't like that taste you'll love these. These were seriously some of the biggest oysters I've ever seen. And the crab was just perfect. This was easily a hundred times better than the upscale bougie seafood place across the river in Louisville. Our server was super nice. Everyone is always so friendly and I feel like the wait for the food was never long. The food is fantastic. I tried the raw oysters on my first visit and that was when I realized how much I loved raw oysters. The portions were really big so I felt like we got our money's worth. The seafood boils are what they are famous for. Each bag I've ordered has been great. Again, portions are huge so you may want to share with a group of people. The main items tasted as good as you can get inland (crawfish, dungeness, scallops, & shrimp), and didn't get overcooked to the point of being rubbery. Wife, granddaughter Cali and I arrived around 3:40 and saw a few parties already here. Adrianna was our friendly server. We started with a cheesy kind of toasted bread. I liked it, but wife didn't and Cali didn't want to try it. We ordered a #6 which included 1# snow crab, 1# shrimp, a little bit of sausage, 2 half corn on cob and 2 or 3 small red potatoes. We started with some fried calamari which we all enjoyed. It was small rings and came with tartar sauce, cocktail sauce and another sauce. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder. It was okay to me, but wife didn't care for it. We had the #6 dinner seasoned with garlic and Old Bay which was tasty for all of us. No one ate potatoes, wife and Cali ate corn. I ate most of the shrimp. Wife and Cali ate most of the crab. We all had a couple slices of sausage. Crackers and a plastic tool are provided to open the crab legs, but nothing small enough to push through which is just one way to attack it. Another way which worked was cut through the leg shell with plastic tool and extract it that way. Bring some scissors which could help cutting lengthways down the leg shell. About half of the legs are more work than they are worth dealing with. Cali was enjoying herself so we had a great time and all got FULL. It's a messy meal, but they supply plenty of napkins, a bucket, plastic gloves and throw away aprons. Adrianna helped our experience to be wonderful by providing everything we needed without us ever needing to request anything. She is definitely an asset to the team. Listen, I get it. A five star review for a seafood place in Indiana? My daughter had been craving crab, and this is one of the few places in town that seem to fit the bill for the whole family. They had seafood and chicken strips. So my whole family was on board. We went with the family platter, which included two lobster tails, a bunch of mussels, crab legs, shrimp, sausage, corn, and boiled eggs. Was it the best bucket of seafood I've ever had? No, but I've lived on both coast where fresh seafood is readily available. It was enormous amount of food for market price and we enjoyed it for two days. This is gonna sound crazy, but the star of the show for us was the clam strip appetizer. They were just breaded nicely and the cocktail sauce had a good kick without being overpowering. I'm usually pretty anti-chain restaurants but this one came out swinging. Our waiter was a nice guy who was good at his job and helped us navigate the pretty extensive menu. The decor in the restaurant was interesting to say the least and I would gladly go back. It's kind of expensive but you get what you pay for. Being a newly at one of these types of restaurants that have popped up around the area, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I love seafood and am glad I went. First, the garlic seafood bread is WOW! I really could have just eaten that and been happy. Then, after a short tutorial from our personable server, we ordered the Special "K" which consists of 1/2 lb of snow crab, 1/2 lb headless shrimp, potato and corn. No heat, old bay seasoning, and garlic butter. The fried menu was so tempting we got the fried scallops with lemon pepper fries (as an appetizer). Why not? Everything...I mean..everyrhibg was so tasty. You get plastic gloves, and bibs and tools to dig out your crab. Good thing because it got messy! It's worth the hosing down I felt I could use by the end. The entire bill with sodas was only $75. Two people and more food than we could eat at one sitting. Dang, Storming Crab is awesome. You would never guess that you were in the bloody cold of Southern Indiana while you're dining in here. With it's awesome decor, you'd think you were hanging out on the sunny beaches of Florida. One thing Kentuckiana lacks are places to get a big ol' seafood broil. Thankfully, Storming Crab has brought that to the table. And it's not messing around - you get the bib, the gloves, the utensils...it's legit. There were 4 of us who split the D option, which came with crab, crawfish, shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn. It's pretty cool how you can personalize it, as you have some other options to choose from, and you can also choose what type of sauce to go with it. We got the mild cajun with a side of hot, and it was a great choice. Your meal also comes with free seafood bread, which I had never heard of before but it's amazing! We love a good boil and we excited to try and perhaps learn from a reputable eatery. Storming crab blew our minds. We had their seafood bread to start and it was a cheesy and crispy start with a crab flavor. The main event, the boil. We tried the half pound combo with Dungeness Crab, shrimp and green 1/2 lb sausage added with potato and corn. I tried medium heat and Cajun 3 ( old bay and garlic butter). The boils comes out in a bag and poured into a tray. They provide bibs, gloves, claw crackers and wet naps. Sooooo the sauce is a garlicky, buttery spice explosion. The crab were sweet and just so delicious. The shrimp and sausage were great and took the garlic, spicy , butter sauce. The corn was sweet and my favorite. I'm not a huge potato person but I ate half of one. Everything was delicious with huge portions. It's a relaxed atmosphere that's a bit rousing with signatures on almost every surface. Over the past few years, I've started eating seafood more. I've always liked seafood but it's not something I choose when I go out to eat unless it's oysters, mussels, lobster, or salmon. There are many reasons to love this restaurant with a couple of things that could be better. The menu has many things but I think there's a specific purpose to visit here(I'll talk about this in a few minutes). They have various appetizers but most of them are fried things. You can also order all of their seafood by the pound. Back to the specific purpose. Grab a group of three or four and go order a dinner/lunch combo. Our group of three decided to go with Combo D(choose your boil flavor and heat-Old Bay Butter and Hot heat), fried okra, and crab cakes. Combo D: Snow Crab Legs. Crawfish. Shrimp. Sausage. Potatoes. Corn. Snow Crab Legs - I had only had crab/crab legs two other times in my life before this visit. One of those times I couldn't get into them because the dipping sauce was melted butter. The other time it was crab and not snow crab legs. This time around I had them with a sauce that came with the Fried Okra. They were delicious. I think snow crab legs are a must here. Crawfish - A new experience! My girlfriend could take or leave crawfish but her friend(Sunny) loves crawfish. It was my first time. They taste like lobster! I love lobster so why hasn't anyone ever made me try crawfish?! Shame on all of you! Sunny mentioned that they weren't fresh but we still ate them. At that time, those were my first crawfish and I could taste how they weren't that fresh. Since then, Sunny and my girlfriend went fishing for crawfish in a lake. I tried them and I could definitely taste how much fresher they were. Results may vary depending on how you like your crawfish. Shrimp - Shrimp is shrimp is shrimp. I actually liked this shrimp. I'm not sure if it was from the Old Bay Butter or what, but that shrimp had a great flavor. I don't think I've had shrimp that tasted so good. Sausage/Red Potatoes/Corn - The sausage = Great! The potatoes = Great! The corn? Eh. It was edible but I doubt I'll ever eat corn from here again. It didn't have much flavor. Fried okra - Like fried pickles, I love fried okra. If you want an app, order the okra. Crab Cakes - We were told to order the crab cakes. They were much better than expected. Nine bucks for two of them. Order this appetizer too. One thing that I don't like about this place would be the combos. I like the combos but they're suited more for a group of three or four people. What if you want to bring a date or one of your parents? The combos are priced by market prices so I think our combo was somewhere in the 45-55 dollar range. There should be a combo suited for two people where you can have a smaller assortment of everything. Maybe charge us a 30 or 35 dollar flat fee and let us choose a half-pound of two or three things(with potatoes and sausage of course). I'm sure there's a way that it could be priced as a date special(Party must only have two people). One other thing to note would be the heat level. They have mild, medium, hot, very hot, super hot, and Sam's special. We decided to go with hot. Everyone in the group is a spicy lover. The hot level wasn't spicy at all. I'm curious how spicy the very hot and super hot are. Overall, I enjoyed this place. If someone suggested it I'd go back immediately. read more

Recently went for a friend's birthday. So my caveat is that it's not a place I would have chosen. However, it was a fun place for a group and the food was good - although the wait was long. Keep reading... The good stuff: the seafood bread they served the table. I may have lost one of my coronaries then and there but it was worth it. My guess is French bread slathered with garlic butter and Old Bay and drowned in cheese. One slice a piece was complementary so we ordered another batch. It haunts me still. We arrived without our party being complete and placed our drink order. My husband ordered a mixed drink that took about forty minutes to arrive. I think a intro from the waitstaff would have quieted some of our party members that grew weary of waiting. Those who arrived late ordered fried food received their food in fairly quick order. Those who ordered the market price seafood and boil combos were about an hour to service. My husband and I weren't very hungry so decided to share a combo (NOTE: prices aren't on the menu as it's based on market price. This wasn't made clear and we had a surprise at the time of the check. Ask or look at the chalkboard). We planned on sharing a 1-person meal and mentioned it to the server. Imagine our surprise when a 3-person sized meal arrived! We did our best because I it was tasty! The food was classic Louisiana boil - they provide a plastic bib and gloves and proper utensils. My husband and I are not into expending this much energy to eat, but tucked in and gorged ourselves on crab, oysters, shrimp, sausage, potatoes and corn. We selected our mix of seafood and the classic butter/garlic//old bay and no heat (all adjustable). The martini finally arrived and was sweet and tropical enough that several others at the table ordered it. I wish there were a few options as I didn't feel like a full on butter-laden dinner. A salad, sandwich or baked fish would be nice. Keep it in mind if you are dining with vegetarians or those eating healthily - probably not much for them here. The atmosphere is casual - wood planks and nautical accessories Apparently they've encouraged everyone to sign everything so there are tons of sketches and signatures. Cali transplant here and I can confirm this place is legit to what I miss back home. Flavors and quality are pretty spot on to what Boiling Crab or Kicking Crab are. Appititoes are really good too, don't skip out on the seafood bread either -- If you ever had baked mussels at a Japanese restaurant, this was that but on buttery soft bread. While in the area going to a car dealership, I was getting hungry on the way home, got on yelp and found the Storming Crab. I showed up with my Best Friend and my son for dinner on a Saturday around 3:30. We were told 40 minutes for a seat, but we were hungry and I wanted to try this place. We sat down outside and talked, it wasn't 10 -15 minutes and someone walked out to say our table was ready. Our little seat reminder unit hadn't even flashed or made a noise, so obviously they paid attention to where we sat. We got seated in the back of the restaurant and Megan came out to help us. She took our drink order and brought us some very yummy garlic cheese bread. She then explained how the menu worked and let us look for a minutes. When she came back with our drinks. I asked Megan if the larger meals would feed 3 hungry men and she said it should. Well she was very much right on point. Our food came out and not only was everything tasty we ate everything. Megan came our several times to make sure we had plenty to drink and we were good with not only the meal, but didn't need anything else. I not only would highly recommend the Storming Crab, I highly recommend having Megan as your waitress, she did an amazing job. Service can be hit or miss Details: First time eating here for my birthday and had read excellent things on Yelp and also saw can get very busy so my party of 3 arrived about 5:15 on a Sat and were told it would be about a 15-20 min wait. I was given a pager and said we could wait inside the double doors or outside. As I returned from the bathroom, I noticed that all of the stools at the hidden bar area were unoccupied - about ten in total!) so I asked if we could sit there and have a drink while we waited. Hostess said sure, not sure why this wasn't presented as an option (the "lobby" area was packed). The bartender was busy restocking so by the time he was ready to take our order the pager went off (no complaints there as it was only about ten minutes). After we were seated the server asked if we had been there before (one of our party had but I said I have not and it was my birthday). Surprisingly, that was the last mention of my birthday and it was barely acknowledged. I convinced my party to order the raw oysters and we were glad they did as they were very large and delicious, only thing missing was horseradish. We also ordered a side of crab cakes/fries and decided on the King Crab boil with medium Cajun heat, and subbed the scallops for crawfish. As others have noted, they are conservative on the spice level so don't be afraid to go a little higher than you normally would (I like it spicy but one of my party did not and she loved the sauce). The main event arrived in a bucket along with bibs, gloves, and flatware (including forks and crab crackers but no small crab forks). The black mussels, scallops, shrimp and king crab were excellent. The sauce was delicious! Others have complained about price but this was enough for 3 people and it was $60. Curiously though, the King Crab legs (while tasty) had very pliable shells which could not be "cracked". Were they overcooked? IDK they tasted great but difficult to get out. The reason for a 4 vs 5 star review was the service. I know in these Covid times it's difficult to maintain adequately trained staff. She checked in once after our food arrived, but Coke and water were not refilled, we had to ask for the complimentary bread, no happy birthday offered, and we had to ask for a Sharpie to sign the wall to commemorate our event but she never brought one. My friend actually observed her after this request go straight into the kitchen area and start playing on her phone. All in all a great value with delicious seafood. We recently visited the Crab , and upon first notice we thought "what's all this graffiti for??" but then realized that's part of the schtick there, and your server will gladly offer you a Sharpie to leave your mark (space pending). He made us feel like wanted guests, and not a nuisance as some other restaurants do. He explained everything to us thoroughly, was there when we needed him and didn't linger when we didn't. A+ server The food. Yummmmmmm. As we had not been there before, Matt brought us a couple of samples of their cheesebread, which was hot and delicious. If we weren't getting oysters, we would have ordered this bread. The oysters (1 dozen-$18 at the time-market price) were as big as the biggest oysters we have had down in Nola, very impressed. All their seafood is flown in from the Atlantic, and these did not disappoint. We shared a boil, with King Crab, Shrimp and Clams. It also came w three pieces of corn, potatoes and sausage. We chose the Cajun medium seasoning and it was just right. A little spice but not to much to overpower the fresh seafood. Crab was moist, tender and tasty. Shrimps were firm and delish, and clams probably soaked up most of the space and even I enjoyed them (normally not a clam fan). No room for desert and we ended up taking 1/3 of the boil home (we split the boil amongst two people). If we're looking for good sized, fresh oysters...we're definitely coming here...and the rest of the seafood was top notch as well! If you haven't been and love seafood...go now!! I think the prices for the food is crazy for certain things, but I understand the demand of seafood during COVID must be tough on the business. I came in here the other night because I was craving some seafood. I LOVE creole food and shellfish. I ordered the black mussels and two sides of corn on the cob. The mussels were still completely in their shell, and there was no real utensil to open them up to get the meat out. The sauce was was tasty, but I could get fact that they didn't bother parting the shells for accessibility. The corn was buttered and seasoned, but somehow dry. Both ears, that seems like an accomplishment, I don't know that can be done, but they did it. Buttered dry corn. Y'all. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, but get to the Storming Crab immediately! Having been to quite a few seafood boil restaurants, I was very eager to try the Storming Crab. We rode past the sign for months anticipating the opening, and we were not disappointed when it finally opened. We went during opening week, so I expected a few growing pains. The wait was long and our party of 6 received our meals at different times, which was a bit frustrating, hence my reasoning for knocking off a star. As the staff gets their bearings about themselves, my hope is that this will improve. We had the seafood bread as an appetizer and it was absolutely delicious!! The calamari was also good and not I've overcooked/chewy which I hate! Everything was market price, as to be expected. The seafood was fresh and so flavorful! I highly recommend getting the cajun and garlic flavors combined. I did the lowest spice level and it was still a bit spicy for me, but I'm a wimp when it comes to spice. Our waiter was super friendly. He explained the menu well, because it was a bit confusing. We settled on one of the big bowls of seafood. It had potatoes, corn, shrimp, crabs, and some other sea creature my husband likes. We chose a spicy Cajun butter flavor. In the meantime, our waiter brought us out some complimentary seafood garlic bread. It was the bomb dot com! I seriously loved it. Our food came pretty quickly. Prepare to get messy, because it is a full body experience eating this food. It comes in a bag that they empty into a big bowl. They also give you various tools. The food itself was so good. It was dripping in a buttery sauce that was very flavorful (and spicy). After you're down there is a nice wash station outside of the restroom which was very handy. I 100% recommend this restaurant. I was visiting Louisville for the weekend and a friend recommended that we go here. We were having a late dinner and came in an hour before closing. They were pretty much empty but were more than happy to serve the 6 of us! Before we go any further, you MUST order the seafood bread. It is to die for! Think cheesy garlic bread but with seafood on top. It was my favorite thing we ordered. The great thing about this place when compared to similar restaurants I've been to in other cities is that they offer different combinations of seafood together with corn, potatoes, and sausage - don't like the combinations they offer? You can switch out different seafoods for what you want and they will just adjust for the price difference. Our table ordered pretty much ordered every single fresh item they had on their menu. Make sure you pay attention to the market prices that are written on chalkboards on the restaurant. Someone at my table didn't look at the market prices and ended up spending a hefty penny for one meal! Everything comes out in a bag and you are given bibs and plastic gloves to try to contain the mess. Be warned, that is almost impossible but totally worth the experience. As for the seasoning of the seafood, you can choose your choice of seasoning and heat. Medium was the sweet spot for everyone at my table and we all got Cajun seasoning. The the seasoning was not as good as I've had at other Cajun seafood spots in Chicago and Los Angeles but I enjoyed it nonetheless. This place is really good. Seeing that we are in Kentucky/Indiana area, the seafood was reasonably priced the portion is easily enough for two to three people and it was delicious! I ordered the #4 with crab legs, sausage, potatoes, corn and shrimp with extra shrimp instead of crawfish. Everything tasted fresh. I ate on it for two days and put the third portion on the freezer to enjoy later when I am craving seafood. I will be back! read more
