The pizza was tasty. Selections were somewhat limited, especially for vegetarians, unless you build your own. The restaurant is casual with a serve-yourself alcohol tap system. My big complaint is the alcohol payment system. Customers can either cash out at the till, or drop their cards in one of three boxes (15, 20, 25% tips). We had 3 drinks: mixed, wine, and beer, and I dropped our cards in the 15% box. I saw later that we were charged $60 for those drinks. That's outrageously overpriced, or an employee was dishonest. I have little recourse, since I was visiting from out of town and didn't notice until days later. Were I to eat there again, I would absolutely cash out at the register. But given my experience, I'm not sure I'd give Barchetta a second chance. read more

If you go here you have to tip 25%+ or they will sabotage your food. They got pissed at us for not overtipping and ruined our food as a result. I don't know what kind of restaurant does this to people but I will never be back and will recommend to anyone and everyone to avoid it This is an order at the counter place. However the cashier was aggressive and directly asking when ordering to tip well since they "come around to refill waters and deserve tipping". She stared us down when paying and selecting the tip We still tipped 15% even though we were not being waited on but I don't think she liked that. Walked in and hit a triple take after seeing a one piece shirt and i knew it was meant to be. Instantly the ambiance of the japanese city pop and good smells put me into a geeklbob mood and locked me in. Got a chill pep piz and bee thousand and it was just as i would have hoped in my most precious dreams. When picked up the thin pizza it was a little foppy but it's light and balanced and the tasted very fresh. Staff was nice, pizzas are big, but a bit pricy. We were excited to try Barchetta after a long workday and ordered a pizza for pickup. When we got it, the pizza was badly burnt--most of the crust and toppings were blackened. The covered outside area and the inside tables looked liked they were for dine in table service so we went out to the back where no one was sitting and the tables were pushed together out of the way. Since there was plenty of space available inside and outside, and given that we were exhausted from a long work day and hungry, we went to that back table area away from everyone else to figure out what to do with a burnt black pizza. We were so hungry we were debating, "do we eat it as it is or let them know and wait another 25 minutes for a pizza?" Before we could make a decision, we noticed the manager coming to the table and we thought that he was going to offer a new pizza since ours was burnt black. It didn't go that way at all. Without any warmth or concern about the food or our experience, he just said, "you need to leave, the owner does not allow customers to sit at the restaurant if they order pick up." We pointed to the pizza and he could see that it was burnt. We said, "no worries, we can just get a refund and be on our way." To the manager's credit, he refunded us, and made clear that the owner of Barchetta is rigid and thinks people are ordering online to cheat, skip the line or something. We said thanks for the refund and left. We debated whether or not to write a review given how hard it is to run a small business; we know, we own one. The interaction lacked awareness, came off as cold and rigid, and we left disappointed. I don't blame the manager, he was doing his job as the owner directed him to do it. But, with so many good pizza spots in Boulder, we won't be returning. If I could offer one piece of feedback to owner: a little hospitality goes a long way, especially when something isn't quite right. We were visibly trying to figure out what to do with a burnt pizza and the restaurant wasn't crowded. Rather than approach us with a reprimand for a policy we were completely unaware of and demanding we leave, perhaps you could have told us the policy and given us one free pass while offering to prepare a pizza that wasn't burnt black. I'm not a rocket scientist so I'm not sure if that's the smartest thing for a business owner to do, but it seems logical. A more welcoming approach might have been to make us aware, acknowledge the burnt pizza, offer to remake a new pizza, and let us know that while the space is generally reserved for dine-in, it's not a big deal this time since no one is in the restaurant. And, we were now aware of the policy. That kind of understanding turns a frustrating moment into a positive one--and often into a loyal customer. Instead, we're back to the tried and true, Audrey Janes Pizza Garage, where we've had guaranteed joy since October 2015. Sorry, Barchetta, we tried. On a mission to find the best gluten free pizza in Boulder. Documenting it or else I'd forget. Atmosphere: 9/10 Very retro and has a 90s vibes with Cartoon Network drawings all over the walls. A great place to eat with family, friends or alone (as I did). Crust: 8/10 It was good. Grateful it wasn't burned as I find a lot of pizzas I come into contact with nowadays. Had a gooey yet grainy inside which I have never experienced before but overall it was pretty tasty. I am always on the hunt for great pizza. Therefore, I judge it harshly. Enter Barchetta. For the boring details, I came on a Monday at 1:30 and it was empty. I ordered a Margherita pizza and a Diet Coke (can.) $30. Ouch. Now, for the actual pizza....very good. The crust is soft but has a nice crisp on the ends. If you got any pizza with more toppings than the Margherita, it will probably be too soft and turn soggy. Be warned. For this one, it worked. The sauce and cheese and fresh basil was absolutely on point. One of the best pizzas I have had in a while. I give it an 8/10 due to the crust being borderline... Just a few steps off the Pearl Street Mall, delightful outdoor seating and amazing pizza - what a combo. And our dogs (who is always with us) was as welcomed as we were! He's basically a pizza expert, and the concept behind barchetta is to serve his blend of styles -- and let me tell you, that means great pizza. Pizza was great, but pizza is pizza, and it's not always what you want. That's cool. Jesse gets that. Cucumber & Candy salad was a blend of flavors and textures I've never had before. Crunchy fresh cucumbers in sesame oil but with goat cheese but also with brown butter sage brittle? You're kidding. It's unassuming and easy to miss, but the cucumber and candy salad really was a star of our meal. We also had the corn ribs. Parmesanas and Calabrian chili (and other magic) on corn quarters. I could have munched on dozens. Lil Bella salad was also really good, though I am not the biggest fan of purple cabbage. Nevertheless, the salad was crunchy, earthy, and a great balance to our pizza. We got the queen pizza and it was their take on the classic marg, though it also had provolone and garlic on top. The dough was great, and the pie overall had awesome flavor. No leftovers, that's how you know a pizza was good. Barchetta is a must in Boulder, and is a great escape from the busier crowd. My husband and I have been here so many times and it's always delicious! Our go-to order is usually a Bella salad and a queen or regular. They switch their pies up seasonally and trust the Chef Jesse when it comes to odd concoctions - he wouldn't make it if it wouldn't taste good. They had a pesto pizza that had potatoes on it, I know that sounds weird but it was so good. Last night, my husband decided to try something new - we ordered the Ruby and WOW! It was different than anything I've had before with almost pockets of sauce. My husband said it's his new favorite pizza there. We also had the wings - they were also good (not surprising), there were 8 in the order. They have a tap wall (pour your own) which is a fun addition, I know of a few bars/restaurants in Denver with these but none others in Boulder. Right now there's a raspberry cider on tap that's really good! But one of the most surprising things about this place is their dessert is phenomenal - save room for dessert. The chocolate mousse is top notch! And their ice creams are homemade with such unique flavors -- their ice cream rivals some of the best ice cream spots in town. They're all small batch ice creams and sorbets so change regularly. Recently, they've been on a jolly rancher kick - last night they had green apple + heath bar ice cream, sour grape sorbet and I think it was caramel? A few weeks ago they had blue razzberry and it was like eating a blue jolly rancher. Some of the negative reviews have mentioned price. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but it's because you're getting a really high quality product. Also the team that works there is always in such a good mood which adds to the experience. We ordered two large pizzas to go and wanted to sit down to have a slice before heading home. The restaurant was empty, but we were told by Annika it was "disrespectful" and that we needed to leave because people supposedly do that to cut the line. It felt unnecessary considering no one was in the restaurant and the woman working was extremely rude. Unfortunately both were kinda mid. The pizza had a good crust but it didn't really taste like the hot honey pizzas I'm used to (maybe it's not supposed to be a hot honey pizza).
