I really wanted to love this place. I'd give it a 3.5 if that were an option. The location is perfect. The open atmosphere was perfect. Bathrooms were nice and clean. But let's talk about food. My friend ordered the Peruvian tacos and they were seasoned and delicious. I ordered the Buffalo chicken tacos and they just weren't good at all. This is the second time i've been to Barcocina and i'm so glad I came back! I came with a group of 10 including me to celebrate my fiancé's birthday. For our appetizer we ordered the spicy crab guacamole, although it was not a spicy AT ALL it was delicious. Everyone at the table had bottomless mimosas which were $15, you could choose between orange juice or grapefruit AND bloody mary's or bloody maria's which uses tequila instead of vodka. My fiancé and I ordered the mahi mahi tacos which were good but we wouldn't order them again. We also shared the to die for carne asada; potatoes, scrambled eggs with cheese and steak. I came here for brunch with friends and it was really nice. The place is very open with a lot of windows so you can get that good natural light and see the beautiful Bmore harbor!!! Of course i got the bottomless mimosa/bloody mary deal. Just a note on the menu is says $13 for the bottomless....HOWEVER thats only if you are sticking with one flavor. If you want to switch between both drinks it will cost you $18. Our serve was really good because she mentioned that in the beginning...it still didn't sound right but hey I like drinks so I got it..The Bloody Mary was tasty they could rim it with old bay but that just my personal MD fetish:) The food was just as tasty...I order the corn & crab omelet with greens and a side of Maple Peper Bacon....ooowweee it was sooo good!!! The crab quacamole was delicious but it could use more crab. We also tried the Barcocina Dip which was quacamole with a healthy drizzle of Balsamic glaze (I think) this too was quite yummy. After walking by Barcocina time and time again, I finally pulled the trigger and checked it out once I started working in Harbor Point. Walking in at 5:30 reveals a bar rushed by happy hour goers and an overall pleasant atmosphere. During the warmer weather, the outdoor and patio seating is really nice-- the waterfront views are impeccable. My biggest qualm with Barcocina was that it was difficult to get attention from a server or bartender-- the bar seemed awfully understaffed and placing an order took more time than it should have. Still, the bartenders were perfectly pleasant and made great drinks. Overall, the food was good but it wasn't extraordinary-- you can find better tacos in Baltimore and drinks as well. A major gripe I had was a strange piece of plastic I discovered upon biting into one of my tacos. At first I thought it was a stray bone from the meat; however, there was a long piece of clear plastic in my taco (it looked like a prong from a clear, plastic fork). This should not have made its way into my food in any way. Still, I understand that mishaps occur and let it go. Things I Liked: Blackberry Sangria - This is absolutely amazing. It's a light, refreshing drink that goes down easily (it's a sangria, after all). Kung Pao Chicken Tacos - These were really good - the chicken was cooked well and had tons of flavor, the peanuts really came through. However, the red pepper and citrus teriyaki really struggled to provide any flavor. Again, there was a hard piece of plastic in my tacos which was extremely deterring. Salsas- The salsas are great and I definitely recommend trying them out. (go for a spicier one). Guacamole - The guacamole is refreshingly simple and creamy. Things I Disliked: Buffalo Chicken Flautas- These just tasted off. The consistency was way off and the cheese simply didn't vibe with the buffalo flavor. I wasn't able to finish this dish. Overall, Barcocina is a trendy Mex spot set by the beautiful waterfront. It's got a happening happy hour and decent service paired with great drinks. The wait time for a walk in like us was 30 mins for outdoor seating but were seated quickly however the service for water , drinks and food was very slow . A lot of the items were sold out on the menu . They almost had no vegetarian options . Over all I still love the atmosphere and seating but needs work on service and quality . While apartment hunting in the Fells Point area, stopped into Barcocina at 1629 Thames Street. First of all what a location! Right on the pier, spectacular views, huge horseshoe bar with plenty of room and many tables. I can't wait to see this place in the summer with doors and windows up. Kieran was our waitress and she did a great job, friendly, knowledgeable and great recommendations. The food was awesome. Had guacamole dip along with the bean and cheese dip they were outstanding. I went here during covid measures. There are signs that say masks are required for entry and your temperature is taken when you go up to the host desk. There don't seem to be paper menus, and to get the menu, you scan a bar code on the table to pull up a digital version of it, though you still order via a waitress. I ordered Brussel Sprouts, Calamari, and Korean Beef Tacos. The Brussel Sprouts were a super generous portion. The taste wasn't too great, but was still filling. The Calamari had a fine consistency, but had some pretty weak tabasco sauce already drizzled on it that impacted the taste. The Korean Beef Tacos actually were quite good and filling though. It took over 15 minutes to get water and 20 minutes for a waitress to come take our orders. So the starting service is pretty slow, though the food came out pretty quick. The wait staff did mix up every single one of our table's orders though, so maybe a more efficient system is needed, or just more training. Overall, this place was sorta middling in terms of food and service, but the prices themselves aren't too much of a dealbreaker, and you could have a nice view for your meal if you're seated near the water. Overall, I probably wouldn't recommend this place, especially when there are many other options available at Fell's Point. read more

The best thing about Barcocina is that IF you can get a table outside (and not outside in the "breezeway). The views of the water are great, and if you're lucky there will be a breeze. But because everyone wants to sit outside with water views, you might end up sitting in the breezeway like we did the last time I was there. The food is sort of Mexican/ fusion? They have tacos, but the tacos are all over the place: cheeseburger tacos, Korean beef tacos, Buffalo chicken tacos, Kung Pao shrimp tacos, etc. (The tacos reminded me of tacos at Bartaco; if you like that place, Barcocina might be your jam.) They also have some more traditional dishes: guacamole, elotes, duck arepas, shrimp quesadilla, charred steak, etc. I'm not a big fan of menus like this, but I found the Korean beef tacos much better than I was expecting. I also had a couple of their Lil' Caliente Piña cocktails (tequila, jalapeño, lemon, and pineapple juice), which I liked as well. The service was scattered when we were there (we had two different servers as there was confusion about whose section we were in), but they had a huge private party inside that I think was making things a bit hectic. Overall, the food and drinks were pretty good - better than I was expecting considering I don't tend to like restaurants with menus this all over the place (maybe I'm a little bit of a taco traditionalist). But if you're looking for a place with a water view, this is a good option (assuming you can get it that water view). read more

Barcocina has one of the worst weekend brunches I've attended. The service is slow, the food is only OK, and mimosas are $6 ea. during brunch and it's mostly ice. We ordered "Salsa" for the table and it was just a bowl of pico de gallo. I ordered the pulled pork hash, it was good, but honestly nothing to write home about. I didn't finish it. If you want to be out in Fells and appreciate water views, it's good for that, but so are other places. I used to really enjoy this place, but post-COVID I've been back a handful of times and it hasn't been as good. I'm pretty disappointed overall tbh. read more

In town visiting friends for a short weekend and they made reservations here. The atmosphere was my favorite part - cool lighting, modern feel with two bars and lots of space on the Baltimore harbor. The menu looked like it was exciting and unique, however I was unexcited by the flavors in my spicy pork tacos. While they were quite spicy, the shredded pork was on the dry side. We had ordered a guacamole appetizer the Oaxaca style (traditional) and it was a generous, delicious portion. Downfall: we asked for more chips 3 times (not joking) and never received them. We each ordered cocktails and then opted for a pitcher of margaritas as our second round. This costs us a steep $55. I expected more marg/tequila and less ice which was disappointingly untrue. I honestly expect a buzz when paying a $100 beverage bill and that was not at all the case. I really liked the atmosphere so I am giving 3 stars. read more

The restaurant sits right on the water and has a very open feel so even if dining inside, you can get the feeling that you're outside (when the weather is nice of course). Recently I visited Barcocina (1629 Thames Street, Fells Point), a Mexican-inspired restaurant with a unique food sharing concept. On this particular Sunday, my best friend and I decided to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Barcocina is in a prime location in Fells Point. It's on the water with views of the harbor, tourists and all the weekend aquatic activities. Looking over the menu I noticed the different options for the Mexican-inspired items. There were six guacamole options, three salsa options and eight taco options. Some were very unique because I would never think to mix the ingredients. There was an "Eggs and Bacon" guacamole, and a "Reuben" taco that caught my eye, but I had a taste for the traditional American breakfast items. The traditional breakfast items also had a Mexican-inspired flair We ordered the Breakfast Quesadillas, Huevos Rancheros, Butternut Squash Enchiladas and the Maple Pancake Sliders. The breakfast quesadillas were delicious. They were made with smoked cheddar eggs and crumbled pepper bacon and topped with sweet corn salsa and a sour cream drizzle. The huevos rancheros was good, my best friend liked them but my only suggestion would be to add more of the citrus sour cream. My favorite were the Maple Sausage Pancake Sliders, it was prepared like a McDonald's McGriddle but better. The Butternut Squash Enchilada was flavorful with fresh ingredients. I really enjoyed my visit here! It's identity is very clearly modern/trendy Mexican. Came for brunch on Sunday around 1pm and had no problem grabbing a table, but the restaurant was still lively. They have wrap around outdoor seating along the water, and on nice days, the doors are open so even tables inside are "on the water." They have a limited but creative brunch menu - including hash brown tacos, breakfast quesadilla, etc. along with brunch drinks. They also serve their normal food menu as well - so tacos, full drink menu, etc. I'm surprised by the lower ratings here - would definitely expect more like a 4 star average, so rounding my rating up for good measure. I found the service to be good, the food tasty, the ambiance fun and inviting, and overall a good value as portions were large. For example, guac and chips is $8 but it was more than enough for 2 people - 4 could share and be content. Would likely return if in the area! read more

I ordered.the maple sausage sliders (see pic) and my friend ordered the crab and corn omelette. We divided our food because these were the two items we both wanted to try. The food was superb. I especially loved my slider. The sausage is a bit spicy but great flavor. I asked for the hollandaise sauce on the side cause I'm weird. Even the sauce was great for dipping. I didn't get any alcohol because a recent assessment of my life showed that my drinking was no longer social. LOL. So I'm on a break, but I will definitely be back to Barcocina. Recently went here to celebrate my graduation and truly only had a subpar experience. Barcocina is a great place to go in Fells because it's right on the water and has amazing views, however the food and service has a bit to be desired. I ordered a pineapple mojito and it just tasted bland. There was no real strong taste of pineapple, mint, or rum.... super strange for a drink made of those three ingredients. The $15 3 course lunch special is a great way to get the most for your money, however the quality of food has seemed to slip since the first few times I've visited. For some reason the guacamole has this balsamic vinegar poured all over the top (maybe this is normal, or a try at being "different", but I thought it totally ruined the taste of the guac.) Additionally the salad was so small I finished it in about 5 bites (and I'm a very slow eater who takes extremely small bites.) Finally, I had the rockfish tacos. They were...interesting. Not bad, but I wouldn't say the best fish tacos I've ever had. If you're looking for killer tacos, maybe try Clavel. This finally brings me to the service... big yikes. Our server (after greeting us about 5 minutes after being seated), took our orders and literally did not return again until we were finished all 3 courses of our meal. As a former server, I always try to give servers the benefit of the doubt and take into consideration how many tables they're managing as well as how busy the restaurant is. However, with bussers and food runners literally doing half of your job, it should not be hard to take orders and check in on tables. There's no reason we had to wait our entire meal to have waters refilled or be checked on--especially if something was wrong with our order or if we wanted to order something else! For a not entirely busy day, the service was quite disappointing--especially since I chose to dine here expecting great service for my family that was visiting for my graduation celebration. read more
