Barda is just all that and more! What I really admire about the restaurant is the pride that the owner takes in it. You'll always see him there and he is very hands-on. The best steak in town I don't care what anyone says, and fantastic sides to go along with it. Service is great and they really take their time explaining everything to you. It's small so you'll definitely need a reservation or you can sit at the bar. One of my favorite places to dine!

I rounded down to three stars, sorry Barda! I wanted to love it but it was just okay. I thoroughly read reviews and ordered dishes that seemed popular and good however, I wouldn't say anything tasted outstanding. All our dishes were fine though, I guess that is why I feel a bit disappointed. Free street parking is great! And when we arrived at 5pm (opening time), all spots were basically full so I took that as a great sign. We entered the restaurant (fun vibe, red lights, music is loud) and were welcomed in right away. I was excited! So the cocktails are great but I would say nothing like overly unique but loved the Margarita (Earth, Wind & Fire), the El Cuco was pretty good, very ginger forward which I like but not spicy at all. The Old Fashioned (why no single ice cube??) was good also. Next, the appetizers: Beets (presentation is excellent) however this dish just tastes like beets (simple and fine), the sauce adds a nice touch but other than that, it was just like okay, nothing special (I wouldn't order again for that price). Next was the Carne y Hueso which we liked. The sourdough bread is not too sourdough-y (good for me since I don't actually like sourdough) and we asked about the best way to eat it which is to spread some bone marrow first then top with the steak tartare. I would say this had a very rich and meaty taste (I haven't had marrow much) which is expected. We liked it. Main: Black Rice with scallops (several small scallops hidden underneath). The black rice was chewy and tasted pretty good/flavorful. My hubby said the dish smelled a little like truffles?? but didn't taste that way (good because he doesn't care for truffles), I didn't think it did (I love truffles). The scallops had a very mild flavor. I would say if you love scallops you may be disappointed but this was fine for me since I don't. Bife- the steak was cooked to our desired level (medium rare) but seemed to lack flavor. I liked the chimibutter and we enjoyed the grilled onion that came with this dish. Overall, I would say the Bife was fine. The kitchen is open so you can see the flames of the fire for the grilling area & the fire pit outside seemed great (on a less cold/snowy night). Note, I think there are 2 separate single bathrooms (one in separate corners of the restaurant) but I didn't realize that until after I waited in a line to use it. Well, I like trying new places, some are hits and some aren't. Thank you for a nice evening Barda.

BARDA would be my first stop in Detroit hands down. All of the food is on point, presentation is top notch and the service is excellent. I love how the decor is not stuffy and it feels spacious. When I first came here, we shared a bunch of plates so I got to try a good variety of their dishes. All of which were perfectly executed.

I recently dined at Barda after hearing many great recommendations. The service stood out right away -- our waiter was very nice, attentive, and always made sure our waters were filled. The interior of the restaurant reminded me a lot of Puma - the red lights and it was very sleek and unique. There was only one restroom which people ended up waiting on line for. We started with the burnt zucchini ceviche appetizer, which was very fresh and flavorful -- definitely a highlight. For mains, I ordered the filet, but unfortunately it came out dry and not medium rare as I requested. The carrots I ordered on the side had good flavor but were undercooked and too hard for my taste. My table also ordered the potatoes, which I didn't try myself, but everyone else raved about how delicious they were. My boyfriend had the NY strip, and that ended up being my favorite dish of the night -- especially paired with the charred onion, which was fantastic. Overall, while some parts of the meal were enjoyable, I felt the experience didn't live up to the hype, especially considering the price point. For me, it was a bit underwhelming given how highly it's been recommended.

Dined here again recently and had a wonderful time with bar seating! The bartenders were incredibly friendly and made it a great time. We started with the scallop ceviche which was quite sour but we enjoyed, and the beautifully presented beets with a cream sauce. For mains, we split the scallop and black rice, short rib, and chicken chimchurri. I don't usually enjoy bone in chicken but this is a favorite - tender and incredibly flavorful! Of course it isn't a trip to BARDA without our favorite Burnt Alaska - perfect every time!

I'll start by saying I absolutely love the design and vibe of BARDA. The colorful but low lights sets a mood that I love. The bartender was amazing with drink recommendations and knowledge of the menu. The best way I can explain the food experience is not bad, but different. Small plates with options you will truly find nowhere else lol. I tried the Glazed Beets, Roasted Cauliflower (all decent) and the Charred Caesar which was actually really flavorful and good. Great place for a date night and drink.

Barda was definitely a fun vibe for a night out! I tried the beef tartar with bone marrow, the blackened rice with scallops, and the beef short rib. The beef dishes were exceptional, and the scallops were perfectly cooked and tender. It is on the pricey side and the menu is limited and they rotate their dishes frequently. The only thing I probably wouldn't get again was the burnt Alaska dessert. The service was fast and attentive and we were able to get our food quite fast, despite the restaurant being packed.

I am not cool enough to be in here. The vibes were too immaculate, the people too chic, a lot of SEE glasses, mustaches, and open shirts. Ok I'm being facetious. But damn this place is cool AF. Blue tiles, red lights, and open flames. It's a living, breathing, sexy organism. But wait there's more. I came for the happy hour burger and it was for sure happy. But first let me tell you about the most tastiest little Caesar salad you ever put in your mouth. Fire-kissed gem lettuce. A complex dressing with a couple anchovies swimming in it. And cheese, cheese, and more cheese with crispy breadcrumbs splayed on top of it all. Damn thing stole the show! The Barda burger? Unctuously meaty and cheesy, juicy, and beefy. It dissolves in your mouth just as easy as ya like. And now I'm drooling.

I don't know if it's an exaggeration to say that Barda's Bife dish is the best steak I've ever had. The first time my husband and I dined here we split an order alongside several other plates and we were so floored by how good the steak was. Right then and there we both declared that even though we didn't mind sharing this time, in the future we would definitely be each getting our own plate. And so we have the next few times we've visited. Other standouts for us include their beets (which are as beautifully plated as they are delicious), the Peruvian potatoes and the scallop ceviche. For dessert, we split the baked Alaska and declared that to also be one we would prefer not to share upon a future visit. No matter how full we are we still each get our own! The space is very cool, with a huge bar in the center and a great view of the open air kitchen and all the flames they cook with. Staff has always been great as well. Reservations are recommended but I have been lucky enough to get a spot at the bar on the whim right as they were opening. But if you can, save yourself the stress and plan ahead. Once you get a whiff of that delicious woodfire kitchen you're not going to want to stand around and wait for a table!

BARDA really said: trust your instincts... and your fork. This restaurant is dimly lit with red lighting. I could barely see my food and company, and this uncomfortable red lighting unfortunately extended into the bathroom. Like why? Dinner felt less like a meal and more like developing film in a photo lab. The restaurant leaned hard into red lighting, which meant everything on the plate looked either dramatic or mildly concerning, with no in-between. I really wanted to love BARDA but was greatly disappointed by my experience here. We ordered the steak, potatoes, fennel, and almendrado (vanilla ice cream-based dessert). The steak was good but underwhelming. There wasn't really anything special about it. You can get the same quality elsewhere at a lower price point. The charred onion made for an interesting presentation, but only 25% of the interior was actually edible. It just tasted like unseasoned onion mush. The fennel was unbalanced and had way too much acidity - I started to develop heartburn from this during our meal. Our server, Amy, was cold and rude. We did not feel welcomed by Amy - most if not all her responses were short and cold anytime we asked questions about the menu. She never asked about my food allergies. When I did bring them up, she responded with 'kay' and immediately sauntered off. No follow-up. I did have allergies to foods listed on the menu, but we did not order dishes with them. I usually carry my epi pen and Zyrtec with me because you just never know. When the food came (dropped off by another kitchen staff member), I started to take pictures of the food for my review. While I was in the middle of taking photos (which was obvious as my phone was literally on top of the food), Amy grabbed our personal spoons from their napkins and jostled them around in our dishes. I could no longer take photos of my food and their plating as presented. Just really strange and rude behavior. The only redeeming part of this dining experience was the vanilla ice cream dessert...but you really can't screw up vanilla ice cream. One star for that I guess. The parking space was also poorly organized and difficult to find a space even with the directions given on their website. We will not be back to BARDA in the future.

Went to BARDA to use my Chase Sapphire credit which made the bill a little easier to swallow. Of course it's pricey but the food was really good and came out way quicker than I ever would have imagined on a Saturday night with a packed house. They even had a fire pit outside that was well feed to hang out at after! We'll be back to try the chicken and strip steak that looked very good as well.

Gosh, everything about BARDA was incredible. The ambiance, the vibes, the music, the decor. You walk in and are instantly transported into an experience. Sitting at the bar was SO COOL. We loved all the staff members; everyone was so kind, attentive, considerate and friendly. We could not have asked for a better evening, and we can't wait to come back!

Went for the Thursday prefix, $100 for 2. Pleasantly surprised with the entrees and service. Started with oysters, fresh and tasty. The salad came with 3 portions which my partner was thrilled. The steak was done to perfection. Choice of dessert( we had the chocolate baked Alaska) yum! Fun atmosphere outside bond fire available.
