I was downtown on a Friday evening and was looking for a happy hour and came across this restaurant, which was unique in its style starting from the outside Terrace to the inside seat. It may be considered small, but it had very unique features the food that they have for happy hour was very tasty bites. I recommend going to this restaurant. The food was very good although I purchased off the happy hour that was enough for me. They do have a dinner menu with more items available.

Baru is a fun, Instagrammable spot downtown. Nate and I were looking for a place to grab an early dinner before heading to a show so we were able to get a table right away (around 5 pm). Our server was really helpful with recommendations so we ordered the empanadas, a side of Brussels sprouts, fish tacos, and a slider. We got the empanadas first and they were awesome--super flaky pastry with tender chicken and a delicious dipping sauce. I would order these every time! The fish tacos were just okay--the fish itself was cooked nicely but not crispy (kind of damp) and the tortillas were a bit tough and not very flavorful. The Brussels sprouts were listed on the menu as being "crispy" but they were pretty mushy. They had good flavor, though, and it was a large portion for a $7 side. Finally, the slider was very tasty and it came with a side of fries, which was nice. We didn't get any cocktails or desserts, but those all sounded pretty good. Overall it was a good experience, but for the price I was expecting the food to hit a bit better.

Tasty dinner & cocktails on a cold Saturday night Braised Oxtail was FANTASTIC, Tres Leches Bread Pudding was so good....Caribbean Rose & Bourbon Sage cocktails Fun music, nice decor, area parking was pricey but close by. Service was just okay (lots of delay between visits, missed items, wrong cocktail) very sweet/personable, just didn't have it totally together and it impacted the experience . Maybe newer server. I will give them another try, for sure, because the food outweighed that part of the experience

Service was okay. Food was good as well. The plantains were excellent and had the perfect cook. Oxtail was the best entree served at our table.

Came here to Baru for happy hour on a Friday -- happy hour runs until 7 PM, which is great. They have an awesome selection with $12 cocktails and $8 apps. I really enjoyed my drink. I ordered the empanadas; they were okay, but not my favorite. I absolutely loved the décor and atmosphere -- super cute. The wait staff was great, too. Overall, I'd definitely come back!

Tried this fairly new eatery (kiddie corner to Fixins') w my mom on a Sunday afternoon. Perfect weather to sit outside with a slight breeze. I can appreciate the fairly spread out arrangement of chairs, couches, and tables. The patio is lower with lots of things to look at all-around. I don't drink, so I can't speak for that, but I did try the chicken empanadas, guacamole, and sliders. They serve brunch till 3PM and were out of the avocado toast - good sign. Food did not take long, with surprisingly filling portions that seemed small at first. Everything was hot and crisp. I like that there were trees surrounding the patio as this helps with sun beating down on the tables without umbrellas. Service was awesome and he recommended a few things, no physical menu just yet, but staff are obviously working out the kinks of recently opening. I would definitely return here on a nice afternoon/evening for a few shareable places and ambiance! I can't wait to see what their lunch is like and how they manage with more of a crowd. The music was nice, too!

My wife and I came here for Valentines Day and it was a really cool space. We ordered the oysters and yellowtail crudo as starters, both of which were incredible. I ordered the short rib as my main and my wife ordered the grilled whole seabass. I really enjoyed the short rib and loved that they came with plantains and brussel sprouts. The seabass was also packed with flavor. We finished with the tres leches bread pudding, and it definitely delivered. The service was great, especially on a busy night. Definitely recommend for a date night and there's a cool speakeasy underneath as well!

Baru was really nice!! From the amazing variety of cocktails to the delicious starters and entrees, my friends and I enjoyed ourselves from start to finish. Service was awesome and the waitress did a good job explaining all of the ingredients and portion sizes. The ambiance was really nice and inspired by the islands. I look forward to going back!

A group of about 15 of us gathered for brunch here on Super Bowl Sunday. My friend whose birthday it was spoke to the owner or manager before we came in so we were expecting a great experience. Almost everyone got a bottomless drink and they kept refilling the same cup. After so many refills we would have to request new cups. We were not aware of the charge for condiments for the tacos that were very bland. Most of the table complained about the food and left still hungry. We were given the wrong food or it just wasn't made right. They should go back to the drawing board for brunch and really train the staff for it. I would say that maybe brunch isn't their strong suit but they are a great place for lunch or dinner.

My son n I was here today for their Mother's Day Brunch which was GREAT!!! The atmosphere was beautiful, they not only had music playing but also had a violinist playing along with the songs playing LOVED IT! Our server was excellent, can't remember her name but she didn't miss a beat with checking on us!! We decided to order our entire meal at once cuz it did take a few minutes to even have someone get our order!! We ordered Bottomless Mimosas, my son had the regular n I had Strawberry which were good BUT be careful cuz they add like $5 for the flavors! Then we ordered appetizers, chicken empanadas which was really good with had pickled red onions n an aoli , we also ordered a Watermelon Salad (very very good) BUT it showed up AFTER my sons entree was at the table, once we mentioned it to a waiter we received it but we was ready to say never mind but they took it off the bill but onto the the entree's my son had the Birria Enchiladas OMG DELICIOUS especially with the fried eggs on top n just a lil heat to the sauce!! I had the Dulce de Leche French Toast (it DIDNT HAVE A CHANCE) !! Overall, I would definitely go back but the kitchen has to do better!!! They also had a gentleman there taking pictures n posting on Instagram!! GREAT vibe

Great evening, beautiful decor, wonderful service all accompanied by a delish meal from start to finish! My hottest homie and I split the chef's empanadas, Ahi nachos, short ribs and the bread pudding. Also enjoyed a few cocktails: The Pink Lady & Baru Heat. A perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. Highly recommend.

We took a day trip to Detroit for a concert and gave Baru a try based on their instagram. It did not disappoint. The ambiance was great. The color choices and decorations appealed to me. The bathroom area decor will give you backgrounds to post on your own Instagram. The guava butter cake I had as dessert was delicious, the guava sauce, mixed with the lemon sorbet The blackened salmon was moist and full of flavor. The Crispy red snapper was definitely crispy but the pickled veggies added a nice tang, making the overall dish good. The service was polite and I was able to order the Caribbean rose cocktail as a mocktail. I will definitely be returning the next time I'm I. Detroit.

My tacos sadly were a 6/7

Baru is beautiful! The attention to detail is very impressive. No expense was spared to create a great space! I wasn't the biggest fan of my fare. The salsa wasn't winning,, my shrimp taco was a 6/7 but my husband says his short ribs were amazing.

Here is the lay of the land: Check in at the little red table in the center of the outdoor courtyard if you want "full service". - which means eating and drinking at a table with wait staff. It is not seat yourself at the outdoor tables, like we originally thought. There is a nice sized bar indoors and seating at the bar is first come first served. We ordered several of the small plate "snacks" and I can tell you that the hummus is not to be missed. It is served with (homemade?) tortilla chips that are absolutely addictive. They have lots of choices for wine, beer, and cocktails. Towards the back entrance of the property, there is a drink truck where you can also order "walkaway" food and drinks. Not entirely sure where you sit with the food/drinks you order, as most of the seating seemed reserved for full service. Additionally, there is a photo booth for pics (long line) and Warda Patisserie is right next door and accessible through a garden walkway.

If you want to sit outside, all you have to do is order at the bar and they'll serve your drinks in plastic cups for you to take outside. The rhubarb pie punch was so delicious I had to order it twice! Probably one of my favorite cocktails I've ever had. I also ordered the maurixio cattelan, which tasted like ginger ale. For a snack before dinner, we chose to get the burrata and it was so refreshing. The service was great and our bartender was super friendly! The logo with the little lamb is adorable. I bought one of their wine glasses with their logo on it too for just $10.

The theme was "Yes, Chef: An exploration of culinary icons through a cocktail lens." Each drink was inspired by or dedicated to a famous culinary icon, and you can read about each one in the index. We each ordered one drink from each section. From the Opening, I chose the Diaspora Club, which was so refreshing and delicious. Then from the Principals, I chose the Chingona, which was a little bit spicy and savory but still so refreshing. To Finish, I chose the Chocolatier Cosmo, which came with a tiny house-made salted dark chocolate. I loved all three cocktails I ordered, especially the chocolatier cosmo because it was perfectly sweet and went so well with the small piece of chocolate. For food, we started off with the crispy pork belly milk bread. For my entree, I ordered the miso butter gnocchi. It was kind of on the salty side but I still really liked it. The apple sofrito added a bit of sweetness to it. For dessert, we had to get the rhubarb coffee cake, which came with strawberry ice cream. Omg one of the best desserts I've ever had!! I never thought of combining cinnamon coffee cake with rhubarb or strawberry but it's perfect, and I might have to make something like that soon. Service was great and we were seated right away at 8pm on a Saturday despite not having a reservation. Food and drinks came out promptly and timed perfectly. We spent about 1.5 hours here and we never felt rushed.

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.
