Love this place! This place is great, the burgers are awesome and the service is actually good. Good service in PB, go figure! I've been here twice and both times it was packed and the waiter and waitress on each visit were busy and still provided fast and friendly service. Anyone who's eaten in a restaurant in PB knows this is like spotting a sasquatch. This place specializes in burgers and they are awesome! You can tell the meat is fresh and it's also organic so that's a plus too. All kinds of different choices as far as burgers go from plain to exotic. Still giving this place 5 stars but I guess if there's a downside the burgers are a bit pricey. That being said their prices are about what I've paid for non organic burgers that were not nearly as good at other places in PB. Also you can usually go into one of the hotels and get a buy one burger get one free coupon. So that's one way to save some scratch. Another thing I don't like is that they charge for fries ($3.50 for a small). That's a little much and if the burgers weren't so good I'd take a star away. Charging for fries at a restaurant just rubs me the wrong way, so I wish they would change this. Charge everyone an extra dollar for the burger if you have to. Finally the last thing that I don't agree with is that they have these huge beer glass scooners (32 ounces I think) and if you go there on Wed they are like $4 which is great. But if you go there any other day they are like $13. Maybe you could find a happy medium here or do a happy hour special. I'd pay $7 or $8 no problem and I think most people would too. Bottom line - overall the place is great. Could use some tweaking but it's definitely worth a visit! read more

Best burger in town, been to this place so many times! Maui Waui with blue cheese rules!

I returned here in May during another visit to San Diego with my best friend from Jersey. We had a blast. The food was great, the bartender was super nice and helpful (I wish I could remember his name, I think he was getting married soon?) Went here this weekend and got the burger of the month - so delicious! My friend got the lamb burger which was also very tasty. We also got their sweet potato fries, which were yummy. A bit pricey, it doesn't come with a side, just a couple pieces of chips. You have to order fries separately. First of the service was excellent. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. I wasn't impressed by the beer on tap, ok, if you like bud or IPA's but nothing even remotely dark. I got the lamb burger. It was OK, not the best I have ever had, not bad. I would say my biggest complaint was that it was served luke warm, and after paying $12 for the burger alone, I figured it would be better. The fries were good, and the wasabi mayo was amazing. Came here with a friend one morning as she was into the beat the clock mimosas. (starts at 50 cents per at 10am and increases by 50 cents every half hour). The place filled up quickly around noon but there is outdoor seating and is perfect if the weather is nice. They also have mules here. They are kind off pricey but worth a try if you've never had one. Bonus- they are serviced up in this cool tin cup. The service here was exceptional. Even though we sat outside the waitress would check on us regularly and be right over as soon as she saw our drinking getting low. This is a definitely a place to check out if you're just looking for some good bbq or having a few drinks close to the beach. read more

I like this place, been a couple times, my last time was last Saturday. I came here with a buddy, the food was pretty decent. It did take us a minute to get service, but on their behalf it was busy. I liked the helms IPA I ordered. I have been pretty happy with the food, not sending me home craving for more, but it's not bad. When I'm in the area I visit, especially if friends want to go. I just wouldn't say that this is my favorite spot to go. It's good for what it is, a chill place to kick it on the beach. I would recommend atleast checking it out if you are in the area. I did and no major regrets. One last thing I feel like prices could be dropped to compete with other like minded bar/ grills in the area. I'll probably be back. read more

This place is so good i went twice in the two days i spent in san diego. I just dig it in all ways. The food is great, they are super accomodating without making you feel like a weirdo (no bun! no cheese!) and they have awesome sweet potato fries so its pretty perfect. couple of tvs that arent loud or obnoxious at all. good music and an open air to the whole place. plus on the second day my server was from my homeland (montco pa ) which was just a pleasant surprise so many miles away. pretty good prices and specials on beer and food alike. if you like burgers and being happy- go here! read more

The Jalapeno and Pineapple style burgers are awesome! I don't remember the names of the burgers, but the jalapeño burger sneaks up on you and bites those tastes buds. Seriously BEST BURGERS!! I grew up in Queenstown, New Zealand - the place the owners got their inspiration from, and this exceeded my expectations. Walking through downtown PB I almost fell over when I saw the little kiwi symbol on the side of the building and virtually forced my friends to go in. I have had fergburger in Queenstown and this was so comparable but without the 13hour flight and 1 hour wait that the now insanely popular fergburger has. Gah. I am so happy right now. I had the lamb burger with the blue cheese, aioli, mint jelly and beetroot!! I have never seen beetroot on an American burger let alone HEAVENLY MINT JELLY. Love this place! I have been here several times and it never disappoints. Their burgers are definitely some of the best in the San Diego area! All of the wait staff are super friendly and even when it is busy we don't have to wait long for our food. Awesome burgers! I had the Queenstown Fave and my boyfriend had the Average Joe. Although I ordered my burger medium well it came out medium - not a huge deal. We were able to split regular side order 50/50 tater tots and sweet potato fries. I am pretty sure they were the best tots I've ever had. Took away a star only because service wasn't very good, our server initially messed up the side order and did little to check on us. This place is amazing, hands down. The only downside and reason it got 4 starts is because it doesn't have the two sauces like the downtown location! Come on! The service is usually always good, the last time I went in for lunch, I think the waiter was new, so I understand him being a bit out of sorts. The burgers/fries/beer all taste great, and they have a lunch deal for a beer and burger/fries for $10.99. They always seem to cook my burger perfectly, and the fries taste bomb with the seasoning they use! I guess I will start with my one gripe about this place...it was hard to find a place to park. Okay, having said that, I will say that I have only been here once and they have the best french fries ever! Simply the best! The hamburger was very good also. I can't remember what it was called, but it must have had bacon on it because if there is a burger with bacon that's the one I get. I just remember being really hungry when we went there and being extremely satisfied when we left. Oh, did I say that they have the best fries! So I've been to Bare Back many times in the past five years and I've always thought their food was tasty (big fan of the lamb burger). Last summer was the last time I ate there and I hadn't been for a while so I ordered my beloved lamb burger...but what was on it? Green mint jelly!?! The horror. Ok, it tasted fine with the jelly...added an interesting texture and touch of sweet...but overall I'm not into it. I was there a few weeks ago with a group of friends just getting late night drinks and I have to say that the bartenders were really great. I was kind of hungry so I ordered a bloody mary and the bartender felt really bad that the kitchen was closed and he couldn't get me all the fixings that go in it, so he made me The Biggest Most AMAZING Bloody Mary Ever. It was in a giant beer mug. The grandmother of all marys. For that, I cannot help but still love Bare Back, despite the toxic-looking green jelly situation. Other great burger places to try in San Diego: Rocky's, The Burger Lounge, Hodadies, Fat Burger...and those are only the tip of the iceberg. read more

This place is great!!! We've been going for Mimosas on the weekends (50 cents starting at 11:00 am and the price increases 50 cents every half hour). The sweet potatoes fries are amazing, always hot and the gorgonzola cheese on top makes them even better. My favorite part about Bare Back Grill is the variety of cheeses they allow you to put on your burger, from the simple cheddar and swiss to bleu cheese, they even have brie... BRIE ON A BURGER!!!! Never thought it would happen, but it was quite delicious. To top it all off, their BBG sauce is one of the best sauces I've ever had, very original and absolutely delicious! Service is good, they are friendly and have a homie feel, although at times it's hard to get their attention, but overall I would suggest Bare Back Grill to all my meat-loving friends. read more

I would give this place 5 stars if their customer service was not so poor. What a shame because the food is great and I love their Mules. I was so excited when I bought the San Diego entertainment book and they offered one complimentary LUNCH OR DINNER ENTREE when a second LUNCH OR DINNER ENTREE of equal or greater value is purchased - Up to $9 Maximum Discount. My fiancé and I read the coupon carefully to make sure there would be no issues. We ordered two drinks, I presented my coupon to the waitress, I wanted to double check to make sure I could use the coupon. She stated I could not use the coupon because it was happy hour. Interesting because their food is not on happy hour, simply the drinks. We were going to stay for more drinks but it made no sense on why we could not have used the coupon. If I was to come and just order the burgers and water could I then use the coupon? I mentioned the issue to a girl I work with who was planning to use the coupon later in the week as a heads up. She went for happy hour and then waited to order her food after happy hour knowing what had happened to me. She came to work the next day telling me the waitress was not happy about her using the coupon but since she presented it at the end of the meal the waitress said she would just honor it. I went to dinner well after happy hour, had drinks and ordered 2 regular meals off their menu. When the waitress gave us our bill, I put the coupon in with our credit cards. When the waitress brought our checks over, she was not happy. Told me that she was not suppose to take our coupon because of the "specials" we ordered and that next time we have to show our coupon when we first got there. She quickly left our table before I could ask, what specials??? I'm thinking you have to show it when you get there so they can tell you that you can't use it right away. Perhaps the waitress is concerned she would have received a tip based on the discounted check, how tacky. Again, what a shame I've been here several times but this experience has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I really hope Bareback reads this review and can explain to other people who have purchased the San Diego entertainment book when they use their coupon. I have used several coupons from the book here in PB and have not had one issue. read more
