a glass of beer and a glass of lemonade

Nice outdoor bar with ample seating behind the Mission Bay Resort. Fast and friendly service from our server. I had an IPA and my wife had a cadillac margarita -- all good. Live music with a super talented guy who is a one-man band. Great place to stop and take a break on our walk around the bay.

While our room was being prepared for us to check in at the Mission Bay Resort, we decided to have lunch near the pool. Both of us were quite hungry after the 2.5 hour drive from the desert. We cut through the busy pool area to the space in the rear, at the edge of the running/bike path. During the current Pandemic 20' crisis, drinks are served in plastic and our lunch was served in a black box. Despite the recyable aesthetics, our spirits remained high. The meal was delicious. I enjoyed two fresh fish tacos, encased in soft tortillas. My lunch companion happily enjoyed the Wagyu burger. The burger eater gave it a three thumbs up rating. I haven't been totally relaxed and stress-free since the beginning of the crisis more than six months ago. Pleasant ocean breezes, a beautiful city, two rounds of cold beer, and a tasty meal. What more could we ask for? Jonathan W. took our drinks and meal order at the counter. He also delivered our meal at the patio. Despite the exigencies and added health & safety procedures required during this strange pandemic era, Jonathan went out of his way to ensure that our drinks and meal were promptly delivered and correct. A big THANK YOU to Jonathan for his excellent customer service skills! He added to our awesome lunch experience. I can't wait to return before the end of year for another meal and a few drinks here.

This is a great little spot at the Hilton Mission Bay resort. They have a good bar menu and casual atmosphere. There is seating outside, near the fire pit, or other cozy areas. We ordered the potsticker app (gobbled down without a pic - delish) and a speck prosciutto pizza, adding basil. I also ordered a side of honey, to create my own concoction. The pizza came loaded with arugula and basil, along with gruyere cheese, with just traces of prosciutto. I drizzled honey over each slice...GENIUS! So good! I was pleasantly surprised with the arugula, as it wasn't listed as a topping. I ordered sparkling water with lime, and our waitress came by offering a refill and brought an additional bottle filled with sparkling water. That was a first and I was super impressed (like regular impressed, but with a cape). As there aren't a lot of walkable offsite dining options near the Hilton, this is definitely a gem and reasonably priced for a resort hotel.

    Improved martini

We often stay at the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa, so we stopped in at The Olive Bar for a quick drink before heading out to dinner one evening and sat at the bar. We came in on a Saturday evening after happy hour had ended, so fortunately it wasn't too crowded, and were tended to pretty quickly by a personable bartender. I ordered a specialty Improved martini from their extensive martini menu and my husband ordered a moscow mule. I enjoyed my strong drink while my husband was happy to see that his drink was served properly in a copper mug. The short but pleasant visit piqued our curiosity, so we will definitely be back. #28 / 100 Yelp 100 Review Challenge 2014

    Yellowfin tuna tartar $14
    Ariana K.

Decided to check out Olive Lounge because honestly I got hungry but didn't want to eat a lot because I knew I had a dinner. Morgan was extremely helpful, I asked for a recommendation that was light and not too big. She suggested the Yellowfin Tuna Tartar ($14). This dish was perfect and exactly what I was looking for.

    Slider & draft

I paid a quick visit to The Olive to check our their happy hour (4-6) on Monday. There's plenty of outdoor seating, which is nice to soak up the sun and view. It took about ten minutes to get service, even though the place was pretty much empty -- not sure where the staff were hiding. Their happy hour specials were not as extensive as expected. While they have an OK on tap selection, they only had one beer (an IPA) on their happy hour menu. I ordered that, and five minutes later the server told me unfortunately it was no longer available but they had a couple substitutes instead (but no IPA). I had a Grazias Cream Ale and a Jucundus Pale (Mike Hess Brewing) -- I preferred the former, with a slight coffee taste. The happy hour slider listed had blue cheese, bacon, and a sun-dried tomato. In fact the price ended up being the regular menu price -- huh? Anyway it arrived quickly and I scarfed the rather meager portion down. It was OK. So $6 each for the drafts and $5 for the slider -- not really much of a happy hour for this area. If you're staying at the Hilton, drop by but keep your expectations in check.

Tuna tar tar with my lovely lady.
    Brenan G.

Very nice! Everything we had was excellent and the service was 100% on point! We tried the pot stickers, tuna tar tar, the fries and champagne with elder flower. Champagne. Wow! Pot stickers. Very simple yet amazing. Tuna tar tar. Wow! Best tuna tar tar I've ever had. Fries. I don't even know what was in them but delicious. Almost like light weight garlic fries. Bomb!

    Elk Slider with Brie, $5.

PARKING: free, adjacent to hotel PRICE: mini sliders (and I mean MINI!) are $5. Full menu available at this bar, including pasta upwards of $22. (It was just 'ok,' nothing to right home about.)+ SERVICE: Rob took care of us, constantly refilling out water on this warm San Diego day (thanks, Rob!). When I asked him for recommendations, he was very knowledgable of the menu. It wasn't busy during the time we were there, so Rob was always available to help us if needed. LOCATION: this bar is at the edge of the hotel, right next to the pool. If after dinner/drinks, you can walk along the waterfront. Nearby is a bike/surrey rental kiosk that you can take advantage of without being a guest of the hotel. The LOCATION is probably the biggest selling point of this place.

    Garlic parmesan cheese fries
    Karina V.

I love how close I live to this place. Not too many things on the happy hour menu menu but a simple menu and prices are pretty fair. On most days service is good, but if you sit too far away from the entrance, you may be forgotten. You can't beat a nice bowl of fries wirh garlic and parmesan cheese. I crush it each time.

The restaurant itself is lovely, so classy. The ocean view was amazing. My waiter was very kind and attentive throughout the night. This place exceeded every one of them. Nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood, Wolf in the Woods feels like a hidden European café you'd stumble upon while traveling. Sitting outside beneath the umbrellas with a cocktail, watching the neighborhood stroll by. It felt like a little corner cafe in Paris. Then the food arrived. Every plate was beautifully presented, but the real magic was in the creativity of the flavors. The combinations were unexpected, yet every one worked. Every dish had me wondering how on earth someone came up with these pairings in the first place. The Sweet Corn & Piñon Soup deserves a standing ovation. We literally stopped talking after the first spoonful. Rich, savory, slightly sweet, comforting and completely unexpected all at the same time. Both of our eyes rolled back in our heads. The Beef Tataki completely surprised me. The outside had a delicate seared crust, the inside cut like butter, and the citrus pairing made me rethink what flavors belong together. And the mushroom and polenta dish? The mushrooms had an incredible texture--like savory little pieces of mushroom jerky. I would have happily bought a pound of them just to snack on. Every dish felt like it was taking me somewhere I'd never been before, yet somehow felt familiar at the same time. Wolf in the Woods creates an unforgettable experience.

With that said, let me start with my high hopes of Jimmy's based on Yelp reviews from fellow Elites. We came here with a large group to celebrate my son's birthday. Reservations were made in advance knowing we had a large party of 13 and this places seemed like a pretty popular spot. I chose this place to celebrate my son's 23r birthday for their burgers & location (right off the Marina). The hostess was cordial when accommodating my reservation. She even asked if I had other needs and just mentioned I have a dad with advanced Alzheimer's so they are aware of a guest need. Upon arriving, hostess was pleasant and expectant of our arrival. We sat down pretty promptly on the outdoor patio. Our waitress greeted us as we got settled. Mentioned all their food comes fresh. Proteins are not frozen and fish caught local. This got us all excited. She took our drink orders and soon after our meals. Things were good. Until it wasn't. Our reservation was at 6:30p. We still sat at our tables 7:51p with no food yet. Our waitress was very hard to find. My dad was getting very ansy. We had to flag down another waitress who was serving another table of 13 who arrived after us and was almost finished with their food. Food finally came out after 1.5 hours!! We were so disappointed by 1) getting our food in late 2) our food was cold!! My husbands mashed potatoes, cold. My son's gf short rib, cold, my fries, soggy, and my fish sandwich, hard. They offered to replace our food but after waiting that long, and with a dad who needs to get back home, we said no! The manager did offer her apologies and asked what we needed, I honestly couldn't give her an answer. The experience was just awful for all of us!! My brother had to ask 3 times for a box for his leftovers. The bus boy was seriously clueless. To top it off, there was a man in the women's bathroom when my sons' gfs were in there. What is going on here???? Why 2 stars, instead 0? because honestly the Manager, Danielle, tried to do her best to make our experience better. If it wasn't for her and me feeling bad for such an unbelievable disappointing experience. It honestly took me aback. Manager tried her best to make it up with comping desserts. I was told the Brookie was good. She took $100 off our bill and gave 2- $50 gift cards to come back. I honestly don't think I'll be using them. Caution, but you may have a better experience than our family.

It is always busy, so a reservation is best (I'd call vice using that @#$# open table app, I swear). Shout out about Johny - in fact, ask for him to be your waiter, he a star.
