We were with friends on their boat and motored right up to the dock in front of the Covewood restaurant. Just behind Covewood is Plaza Del Sol. Plaza Del Sol boasts a beautiful patio with a great outdoor bar. There was a guitarist/singer playing music contributing to the great atmosphere. We ordered a couple of drinks and each couple ordered a pizza to go to take back to the boat. Becky and I chose the only pizza on the menu that had a protein. The Smoked Duck $22 orange teriyaki, smoked pecorino, ginger oil, charred scallion, macadamia gremolata It was phenomenal! The crust was perfectly well-done as requested. It had just enough char from the wood fired oven. The duck was other worldly. It was smokey and full bursting with flavor and a hint of teriyaki. Duck in nearly every bite! Easily one of the best craft pizzas I've ever had. Our friends ordered the Blanco $21 crema di pecorino, smoked mozzarella, grilled artichoke, wild arugula, preserved lemon They're regulars at Plaza Del Sol and the Blanco is in their rotation. They love it every time. They had never tried the smoked duck. When they did, the immediately added it to their rotation. Service at the bar was great. Becky and I did receive the wrong beers initially. We received an apology, the correct beers and the mis-pours were on the house. One of which I offered to the musician, who happily accepted it. Not bad for a hotel restaurant but not great either. They don't have proper seating but they make it work. It would be nice if they had more umbrellas for shade. They also sometimes have live music to help with the vibe. Food wise the prices are higher as expected. I thought the burger and truffled fries were pretty good. The portion for the kids menu is absolutely enormous. The pizza is very large and dense, but I didn't really like the duck flavor as it was too smoked/salty although I liked the idea. read more

While our room was being prepared for us to check in at the Mission Bay Resort, we decided to have lunch near the pool. Both of us were quite hungry after the 2.5 hour drive from the desert. We cut through the busy pool area to the space in the rear, at the edge of the running/bike path. During the current Pandemic 20' crisis, drinks are served in plastic and our lunch was served in a black box. Despite the recyable aesthetics, our spirits remained high. The meal was delicious. I enjoyed two fresh fish tacos, encased in soft tortillas. My lunch companion happily enjoyed the Wagyu burger. The burger eater gave it a three thumbs up rating. I haven't been totally relaxed and stress-free since the beginning of the crisis more than six months ago. Pleasant ocean breezes, a beautiful city, two rounds of cold beer, and a tasty meal. What more could we ask for? Jonathan W. took our drinks and meal order at the counter. He also delivered our meal at the patio. Despite the exigencies and added health & safety procedures required during this strange pandemic era, Jonathan went out of his way to ensure that our drinks and meal were promptly delivered and correct. This is a great little spot at the Hilton Mission Bay resort. They have a good bar menu and casual atmosphere. There is seating outside, near the fire pit, or other cozy areas. We ordered the potsticker app (gobbled down without a pic - delish) and a speck prosciutto pizza, adding basil. I also ordered a side of honey, to create my own concoction. The pizza came loaded with arugula and basil, along with gruyere cheese, with just traces of prosciutto. I drizzled honey over each slice...GENIUS! So good! I was pleasantly surprised with the arugula, as it wasn't listed as a topping. I ordered sparkling water with lime, and our waitress came by offering a refill and brought an additional bottle filled with sparkling water. That was a first and I was super impressed (like regular impressed, but with a cape). As there aren't a lot of walkable offsite dining options near the Hilton, this is definitely a gem and reasonably priced for a resort hotel. read more

We often stay at the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa, so we stopped in at The Olive Bar for a quick drink before heading out to dinner one evening and sat at the bar. We came in on a Saturday evening after happy hour had ended, so fortunately it wasn't too crowded, and were tended to pretty quickly by a personable bartender. I ordered a specialty Improved martini from their extensive martini menu and my husband ordered a moscow mule. I enjoyed my strong drink while my husband was happy to see that his drink was served properly in a copper mug. I paid a quick visit to The Olive to check our their happy hour (4-6) on Monday. There's plenty of outdoor seating, which is nice to soak up the sun and view. It took about ten minutes to get service, even though the place was pretty much empty -- not sure where the staff were hiding. Their happy hour specials were not as extensive as expected. While they have an OK on tap selection, they only had one beer (an IPA) on their happy hour menu. I ordered that, and five minutes later the server told me unfortunately it was no longer available but they had a couple substitutes instead (but no IPA). I had a Grazias Cream Ale and a Jucundus Pale (Mike Hess Brewing) -- I preferred the former, with a slight coffee taste. The happy hour slider listed had blue cheese, bacon, and a sun-dried tomato. In fact the price ended up being the regular menu price -- huh? Anyway it arrived quickly and I scarfed the rather meager portion down. It was OK. So $6 each for the drafts and $5 for the slider -- not really much of a happy hour for this area. If you're staying at the Hilton, drop by but keep your expectations in check. read more

I ordered my Maker's Mark on the rocks and before I could finish my order a woman walked up and asked him a question about the free slider that comes with the order of a beer. I continue to order an additional beer and food. He pours the beers and gives her hers first. My Makers Mark was poured with a measured jigger shot. $9.75 for that. $9.75 for a draft local heff. The complimentary slider was decent and the oysters on the half shell at $3 was a steal. Very fresh. I ordered a crab cake to go and it was not seasoned. There was hardly any crab in it and mostly filler. $14 for one. Ultimately I was unimpressed and the bartender needs to learn how to be more attentive to his patrons. As a fellow bartender I was livid. I wasnt ordering drinks at a club. His disheveled appearance and food stains on his clothing was appalling. What kind of four star resort is this?! read more

When I asked him for recommendations, he was very knowledgable of the menu. It wasn't busy during the time we were there, so Rob was always available to help us if needed. LOCATION: this bar is at the edge of the hotel, right next to the pool. If after dinner/drinks, you can walk along the waterfront. Nearby is a bike/surrey rental kiosk that you can take advantage of without being a guest of the hotel. The LOCATION is probably the biggest selling point of this place. read more

You can also get $5 kobe beef sliders (tasty, but pretty tiny), parmesan thyme potato chips, and truffle & garlic pomme frites (very generous portion, and SO tasty; definitely share w/ friends). Fairly limited menu, but they also have some specialty pizzas, tartars (the tuna one is quite good), seafood (crab akes, scallops, pot of claims), potstickers and eggrolls - much cheaper than Acqua next door - mostly $13-16. Nice selection of cocktails and martinis, too. read more

I didn't have my phone on me so I went back to the hotel to tell my friend about the happy hour; also did not want to sit at bar by my lonesome and look alcoholic. Turns out he went out and found the bar too since he was holed up in his room most of the time watching football... guys right? VIBE/PLACE: +happy hour 4-6 pm +is a restaurant/bar +/-Friend ended up watching the two football games on two screens anyways... +there was a couple, one woman drinking a cucumber margarita by herself outside in the very comfortable looking seats, group of friends (older). I was definitely the youngest.. FOOD/SERVICE: +they have a happy hour menu and I quickly ordered TRUFFLE & GARLIC POMME FRITES. YUMMMM. they were really goood +nice bartenders who are attentive. Told me I should order more drinks before it hit 6pm ahaha +$4 stone pale ales on tap woo hoo VERDICT: For such a nice resort hotel I was surprised they had such a great happy hour! I was anxiously awaiting a return here for drinks and nibbles since they had been closed for remodeling the last few times I stopped by. Sadly, the experience was not as it used to be. First of all, they no longer have happy hour, even during the week. No drink specials of any kind. They also do not accept cash ..but no one advises you of this until they bring you the bill. The food and drinks are ridiculously overpriced. We had one beer (on tap), one glass of wine (nothing fancy) and one order of truffle fries to share .. our bill before tip was over $39 just for those 3 very basic items. Our group of 30 business professionals stayed at the resort and were enjoying a nice gathering ( on a Saturday) when the extremely rude wait staff locked the doors on us at 11 pm.. It seems absurd of a resort establishment to lock the doors with 30 customers present. Very disappointing and extremely rude . This place gets 5 stars for one thing... Lindzee. This waitress, dancing partner when I was in her way... was the greatest thing about this place. I stayed at this Hilton resort for 5 days and was in The Olive Bar at least once a day while I stayed there. I had two different bartenders during my stay and both were uneventful and slow as mud, the drink selection was sparse, and the happy hour was kind of blah, but Lindsey the waitress made it all okay. This super woman could serve the whole place and the outside patio without breaking a stride, and yet she was the sweetest, most attentive server I have ever come across. This place is high priced, average overall as a bar, but has one of the hardest working ladies in the business making sure you're taken care of. read more

Only 4 people in The Olive Lounge. 2 bartenders. 1 male, 1 female. 1 cocktail server. 1 what appeared to be busser(?) watching tv standing at the end of the bar. We ordered an IPA and a lemonade. Almost 20 min later the cocktail server asked if we wanted to order food. I said I was still waiting for the beer. She said sorry, that they were busy. Including us, there was 6 people total and 2 bartenders. Two. 20 min for a draft beer? Or maybe it was a bottle beer, which is even worse? No thanx. We walked out. I stay at the mission bay hilton pretty frequently and have been to the olive bar for happy hour a few times. I am really big on happy hours because I love drink specials and the small bites. They have great deals here from 4pm-6pm. The service is really good, even when they're busy and they have a great environment. I definitely recommend the lobster/ crab slider. It was delicious!! But it was a huge portion... I would suggest getting a few sliders if you're looking for a filling meal. read more

We wanted to order take out but there was no one to help us at the takeout window, the other employees looked at us as they passed but just went on their ways and did not come over to ask if we were okay or wanted something. After waiting 10+ minutes with no help, I had to walk over to an employee chatting with another employee but he said that the guy who worked at the window would help us. The food was very good, the service attentive. Room for improvement would be in accessibility: we saw only one handicapped space; for a venue this size, that's not enough. One or two more spaces, or even valet parking, would be good. Additionally, people with limited mobility find it expedient to wait in front of the restaurant to be picked up, rather than try to walk to a distant parking space. But every place to sit was so stylishly low as to make getting up almost impossible. The swings, while clever, are kind of a deathtrap for people with limited mobility. The solution would be simple and inexpensive: three or four hard-backed wooden chairs with arm-rests and fairly high seats, placed at strategic locations near the entrance. Came here last night because we were staying in hotel and since it was the fourth the road was closed to get out of hotel. We decided to just eat here. What a mistake. we waited over 1 1/2 hours for our food and then it came staggered over an hour. It was an hour from when we got our first meal to our last. The worst was we had 4 kids and only 2 got their meal first. I had purchased a hotel room where you could see the fireworks. We missed them all because we were stuck at dinner for 2 and 1/2 hours. I would like to edit this and give them an extra 2 stars because of Ronald the manager . He really worked hard to fix any issues I had. My understanding is she is new to this bar, however she acts like she's bored and 'put out' to do anything. My wife and I are at the Hilton for a wedding. We decided to pop in for a quick drink and a bite to eat. The drinks came very quickly. But I had ordered food: a goat cheese platter, and asked 3 times in 45 minutes whether it was coming. What was alarming was when other patrons who arrived after the two of us got both their drinks and their food, and paid, and left ... and there were the two of us sitting and waiting. After I asked whether they were milking the cow in order to get the cheese, one of the bar tenders went back to check on the order. There was no real explanation for the delay, but he DID remove the change and comped one of the drinks. OK, fine. But note to management: when someone orders food, please actually put the order in, and then periodically check to see why it's delayed, especially when the customer has had to ask a few times. read more
