Beautiful views and good service made this a 3.5 stars. Oddly, I wish I had ordered the $27 burger and fries. The Catamaran has two restaurants, Oceana and Moray's. As I understand it, Moray's is the outside/patio dining portion, while Oceana is the indoor fine-dining situation. I believe they pretty much have very similar menus, with Oceana having some additional high-end offerings. Came out to Moray's to visit my cousin who was in town for work. Since my cousin now has her most adorable infant, she wanted to keep it simple and dine at the hotel restaurant, which was fine by me. While I waited for them to come down from their room, I got us a patio table and ordered a delicious $10 draft. Mixed drinks were all hovering around $19 each. The server was friendly, welcoming, and helpful, which I greatly appreciated. I went with the reasonably priced Steak Frites, $36, which was to stated to come with Muenster cheese and caramelized onions on top, and served with a side chimichurri. While the steak was wonderfully cooked to a solid med. rare as requested, it seemingly had very little flavor. Perhaps had it not been covered with a wealth of some DEEPLY caramelized onions and an abundance of Muenster cheese, I might have been able to taste the seasonings and/or the beef. While I love some deeply caramelized onions on a salt-laden burger, the extent to which these were caramelized left them seeming soggy and too sweet for the steak pairing. Add in the several slices of melted Muenster cheese on top, and flavourwise I could hardly tell I was eating a steak. Ultimately, the abundance of toppings overwhelmed the steak. The accompanying chimichurri was also a little strange. While I appreciate that it was diced and not blended, it was very heavy on the oil, while very light on the herbs. The frites were nicely salted and good on their own, however a decent amount became soggy from being under the steak. The burger on the other hand looked excellent. My cousin devoured his in what seemed like a split second. I could have went for the burger, however at $27 I perceived the $36 steak frites to be of a better value. Again, shout out to our server. Ate here once during our stay at the catamaran resort. We managed to get pretty good seats with ocean views, and the resort had a Polynesian show at one point, which was nice and we had good seats to enjoy. Service was ok. Our server was polite and provided decent service, but wasn't very personable. I ordered the pork sliders appetizer as an entree, which were ok, I didn't love them but didn't hate them either. It came with a side of mac salad which was also just ok. I'd give this place 3.5 stars overall, but added 1/2 a star for the views. read more

Decent, casual spot to eat at the Catamaran resort and spa. It wasn't crowded, so I was able to get a table outside as close to the water as I wanted. The outdoor area feels very tropical with greenery, copy pond, waterfalls and then having the sand and bay in front of you. Service: Service was a bit slow, but my server was great otherwise. Food: I ordered the summer bowl and added island marinated steak. The steak was cooked perfectly to my liking. I felt the bowl itself was a little odd and wished some of the vegetables were cooked / heated instead. The cold spinach and tomatoes didn't pair well with the warm steak for me. The best part of it was the steak add-on for me. I figure the summer bowl was meant to be cold and refreshing for a hot summer day, but I would've preferred the vegetables be at least grilled and cold. Otherwise, food was presented nicely and I think it is a nice spot to have a casual lunch on the bay. read more

The drinks here are probably not the type of liquids they had in mind when I was advised to drink liquids after having the massage at the place next door, but, it was a clear liquid and that counts, right? I mean it looked like water with lime. I don't know if I should say fortunately or unfortunately, but the drink was OK and fairly close to water. It didn't really taste like much of anything. The lime was good though. So there is that. The bartenders (at least two of them) engaged with the customers in taking orders but they weren't much for small talk, and that's okay with me. I did like the beachy decor. It was kind of fun -- like walking into a cabana right off the beach, which is pretty much what it is. So, there was that as a plus. We recently met friends on a Sunday at Moray's, which is at the Catamaran Resort, having drinks and food .... and enjoying views of Mission Bay from our outdoor table. Service was good, and our server was friendly. Drinks were very good. I had an Old Fashioned (4/5), and my wife had a glass of Piper Sonoma Brut (5/5). Others had different specialty drinks. Drink prices overall were in the high teens to mid twenties. On the food side, I wasn't impressed. I ordered the Togarashi Seared Tuna Roll (3/5 $23), which was supposed to be "seared tuna, tempura shrimp, crab, spicy garlic ponzu." The tuna laid on top of the roll wasn't seared and kept falling off. The "tempura shrimp" consisted of a tempura shrimp tail section at each end of the roll. I'm still looking for the ponzu. I also tried two items that were shared -- again so so. On-site parking at the Resort is expensive, but there was off-site street parking available when we were here. read more

Great little spot to the right of the lobby water off if your back is towards the street main entrance. The onion soup is great and the Caesar salad was delicious. The bartenders were attentive but not overbearing even though we were in within an hour of closing but needed a bite after a long travel day to the hotel. Totally forgot to take pics (happens when you're hungry lol). We sat at the bar and the staff were super friendly. We got the curry mussels and pad Thai. The mussels had a good sauce, and while the pad Thai was good I thought it would've been more unique or different than regular pad Thai (it had macadamia nuts instead of peanuts, but flavor wise was similar). I love it here. The ambiance is so calming and peaceful, with the food and drinks being divineee. My out of town sister & her boyfriend were visiting for one night & out of all the places we decided to go here! Absolutely the right decision. We stayed for probably over 2 hours and talked, while we kept ordering more food and drinks. Our waitress was attentive. One of the things we had ordered was a tomato mozzarella flatbread, but they had accidentally brought out a tomato bisque. As soon as they set it down we noticed it wasn't what we had ordered, but the guy was so kind and apologized (unnecessarily; it wasn't a big deal at all, sweet of him though) and gave it to us on the house. I don't feel rushed at all here. I'll definitely be back & be bringing more family members. read more

I wish I could give them five stars instead of four but so many things were lacking, as I do like this place and it might have just been an off night. But I went there for dinner on Saturday and service was majorly lacking. After sitting at a table in the morays inside area for close to 10 minutes and no one coming over to help us yet with five people behind the bar. My friend finally went up and asked if we have to order from the bar or if we have a server and of course they're like oh no we'll come to you. But yet no one did the previous 10 minutes. And then as soon as the server came to our table and put down our menus she asked us would you like to order. She literally just handed us our menus. Like give us a few minutes please. The food is good though. I got the fish sandwich with fries and it was a very good size and so good. My friend got the wings and a side of fries and she really liked hers as well. As far as drinks go there on the pricey side. I got one can of nutro-seltzer and it was $13. Service throughout our meal was lacking as our water only got refilled once near the end when we were finished our meal. When we got our bill my friend and I were going to split it but the bill was not itemized so we did not know who spent what. All bills should come itemized. Also to make sure that we can check it and make sure that everything on there is what we ordered. I'm a local and go here Often for happy hour or just a drink To sit on the lawn with. I don't think dinner's here will be a regular for me however. The location though is absolutely fantastic with the view of the bay. So if you haven't been I do recommend checking it out. read more

While the location and the bay views were great, the food really fell short of expectations. I got a ceasar salad with chicken-- it was incredibly bland and I worried that the chicken was undercooked. My family members also didn't enjoy the plates they ordered (ranging from sushi to flatbreads). Another thing: the dishes came out at staggered times, so we didn't even get to eat together. Good: The location to either the bay or beach is perfect. The venue opens up to views of the water/bay with live music (mostly weekends) and fire tables for evening hours. Not So Good: We ordered the Pita starter and was a great portion of spreads, Pita Chips not so much ($16.50). Additional Pita Chips are a up charge and never came from either the server or manager after repeated requests. The manager even brought regular chips as a apology, but never brought the pita chips back. Also were charged for another round of Pita Chips. I ordered the burger ($19.50) and would have expected a bit more for the cost, at least hand cut fresh fries, and not frozen bagged from Sysco. The last entree we ordered was The Seared Tuna Salad (less cost then the burger), but again this came about 1 hour after we ordered, without repeated asking of the staff it may have never come. Seems like they have plenty of staff, host, food and beverage runners, at the time two (2) front of the house managers. Even with a POS system, we were asked 5x if this was our food. Indoor/outdoor lounge and bar in Catamaran Hotel. If you lucky (gets super busy here) grab a seat outside and enjoy beautiful bay views. Outdoor patio also has a few fire pits, which is great since it gets a bit chilly in the evenings. I usually come here for HH - 3-6 pm daily. There are lots of specials on wine, beer and well drinks. Their indoor bar area definitely needs a makeover, looks very outdated, dark, and no ambiance. The only highlight is the giant fish tank decorating the bar wall. Bartenders area lacking enthusiasms and barely cracking a smile. On the plus side, they are pretty generous with wine pours. Check it out if you are around Mission bay read more

Horrible! Was staying at the Catamaran resort and decided to get a quick bite and a drink at this bar. Our bartender Denyse was a total B*, she had major bad attitude and ignored us for 15 mins, then when she finally acknowledged out presence, she told us to wait, while she continue to stack glasses. Really? stacking glasses is more important than serving your customers? Then she finally takes our order and was extremely mean to us. The other bartenders were all alot nicer than her, she eventually left and Sean took over and he was a sweetheart, wish we had him first. read more

I've been to many bars, and have to say that the staff and drink selection at Moray's is outstanding! I normally dont order to many drinks off the menu when I go to bars. Like most people I have a particular drink I like to stick with. However Moray's drink selection always suprises me. They a drink selection for every type of drinker. From a tropical rum flavored speaks to the refreshing summer vodka drinks. But what really makes this place special is the staff. I always like to experiment in making new variations of drinks. Some bartenders will not be far kind and patient when it comes to me playing mad scientist with a drink. But the staff here has no problems and even plays along with my concoctions. One such Bartender is Joanna. Not only is she knowledgeable about the drinks she was even kind enough to work with me on the drink that I intended to have for the majority of my stay. Not only did she not complain or get annoyed with me deciding on different ingredients, she gave me advice on what might taste better. All in all Moray's is a great experience for any bar goer. read more

She is super friendly and really makes an awesome effort to be informative & makes sure you have everything you need. I love it when I go there and she's taking care of our table. She's engaging & quick on her feet. I am a business professional who has waited tables in the past so I am very aware of the challenges that servers come across. She does a fantastic job & deserves a shout out!!! As for food the Seabass Ceviche dish is my absolute favorite, it's very flavorful with a citrus lime marinate & the tortilla chips are served warm and fresh, quite yummy!!! My only complaint is the dessert menu is lacking else I would give a 5 stars review. I tried their warm skillet chocolate brownie served with ice cream & it was awful! After our wonderful boat ride on the Bahia we ended up parking it at the bar for one last drink and some food before we called it a night and headed home. We ordered a mini chicken quesadilla, fried calamari (all for the BF, I can't eat it I'm allergic. *sad face*), and chips & salsa... The pico de gallo was so fresh & tasty!!! Quesadilla was wonderful too and my BF said he really liked the calamari. We both had a glass of the Lodi Zin & since the first glass the bartender had turned he was great enough to give us a small discount on the check (which I thought was cool of him, since it wasn't a big deal really..) Everyone was in a great mood and didn't seem to mind to be working on Christmas. Very friendly and good service, and they do have a great fish tank behind the bar which is nice to enjoy over your food and wine. (Oh yeah, and happy hour! I came here with my mom today after a wedding at the Catamaran, big smiles on our faces and ready to chill with a margarita and relax on some yummy food. But the prices and general idea the menu portrays is not at all matched by the service quality, and CERTAINLY not by the food. We ordered a few things to share, one of which was the crab louie salad ($20). It came out and was just a sad layer of wilty iceberg lettuce with a mayo-y dressing, topped with very off-tasting shredded crab. A laughably sad salad for a pretentiously high price. And the service left much to be desired as well. When you see your server just leisurely walking around and chatting with coworkers while you're waiting to place a food order, or have already asked for a refill, it gets pretty annoying. What could have been a communal, fun, patio/beach spot and cool interaction with a server felt like pulling teeth to get acknowledgment from someone who clearly couldn't give 2 shits about serving you your overpriced meal. There's some major dissonance with this place. You have to either be a chill spot that employs untrained 19 year old servers and has fried cheap food, or train the staff better and step up the food game to follow through with those high prices. It was all just...lame. read more
