I came here on Sunday to watch the World Cup, and the atmosphere was incredible. The place was absolutely packed, but it never felt like you'd miss any of the action. They have TVs everywhere, so no matter where you're sitting, you have a great view of the game. They also have a nice outdoor patio, and it's dog-friendly, which is always a bonus. Even with a full house, the servers did an amazing job. They were constantly checking on tables, taking orders, and keeping drinks flowing. The service was fast and attentive the entire time. They also have a great selection of craft beers to choose from. I ordered the burrito and split it with a friend. It was absolutely delicious. NorthSide tavern on Bacon street. Stopped in today while on a walk to grab a beer and watch the USA men's soccer team play. The bar was empty and then about 5 minutes in, it was packed. And I mean packed. Drink prices for happy hour were mediocre at best. There is way better value around than this spot for happy hour, just saying. The nacho fries with carne asada were spot on delicious. Crispy fries, loaded with meat and cheese, absolutely delicious. Service was great, beer was cold and good was delicious. Bar itself is a bit divey, and that's what brought us in. Good beer selection on tap, not may have Sam Adams anymore, this place does. Great crowd of USA supporters and only one drunk idiot spouting off nonsense. Overall a fun bar, I could do without all the dogs everywhere however. Dogs on the tables is a bit of a health code issue for me. read more

This place was fantastic. All the staff are super friendly and definitely get to know their local clientele and friends of local clientele. My buddy lives just a few blocks from here and I was happy that we got to walk over here pretty much every day, which was really nice. They've got great food and good specials. Definitely the kind of place that you want in your neighborhood as your neighborhood hotspot. Was happy to come check it out. Place is large but kept clean and maintained very well. Excited to find pool tables and randomly running into our new neighbors, this spot became a really fun Perfect Chill New Year's Eve 5. I guess sometimes they have live music which I'll definitely come back to experience. Pool was free to play that night, but is also free every wednesday! The service is very fast and nice. One of the 2 niners bars that I go to in San Diego. They have game day deals and pass out Jell-O shots whenever the niners get a touchdown. The establishment has patio dining that is dog friendly so I'll usually sit there during the niner game with my hubby and doggo. The food is tasty- your usual bar/pub items and the servers are always friendly. Decent amount of seating inside and out with a ton of TVs for game day. I went to Northside Tavern for Monday Night Football with my boyfriend who is a huge 49ers fan, and it ended up being the perfect spot. If you're a Niners fan, this place is for you since it's a full on 49ers bar. Even though it was packed, our server was incredible. She was handling every table on her own and never missed a beat. I ordered the Ahi tuna poke and it was outstanding. Way better than I expected. I also got the chicken Parm sandwich, but I didn't realize it came with provolone cheese. I'm not a provolone person at all so it threw the whole thing off for me. My boyfriend loves provolone and ended up eating it and said I would probably like it with a different cheese. He got the loaded Carne Asada fries and the portion was huge. He barely got through a quarter of it so I'd suggest a half order if there are only two of you. The entire staff was super friendly and impressively fast given the holiday crowd. Working our way to Mike Hess and City Tacos in OB, we stopped for a pitstop at Northside Tavern. Super chill, dog-friendly bar. A few pool tables, tons of TVs and a great patio. The last couple of times we've been to Northside they've seemed to be understaffed. On this Saturday afternoon there was one bartender working. She was bartender, table busser, food runner and server all at once. We patiently waited at the bar to order drinks while she ran around taking care of business. Just one and done. I loved Mothers and try to love this place. First, its at 49ers bar, for better or worse. It has a much, much older crowd and seems to have a grip of old men that hang out there. I think it's safe to say the bartenders definitely want to make sure you know your an outsider. They will clearly ignore you and when forced to serve you, they aren't happy about it. The food is pretty good. Its bar food, not trying to be healthy, or fusion or any bullshit and I appreciate that. There is a smoking patio. I don't smoke, but I used to, and smoking while drinking is pretty cool. There are not many places at bars to smoke and drink any more. This is a dive bar, so cocktails are basic, which I like. Again, they have an older crowd, so give'em what they want. There are about 30 taps, mostly big beer or pseudo craft. Nothing you couldn't find at most dive bars pretending to have craft. Given the amount of taps, I'd like to think they could do better and get more creative. All in all, never my first choice in OB, but not the worst either. read more

Northside Tavern is a sleeper for great food in OB! The ahi salad is so fresh, and the wasabi dressing on it has the perfect combination of tangy and creamy. Wings are hot and crispy and served with plenty of ranch. The chips with salsa & queso hits the spot. The bar was lively, and there are high tops and booths as well as a huge patio. Sports are on TV and there is pool to be played as well. Service is great - friendly and fantastic. My water glass was never empty during the entire meal and we were checked on several times to be sure we had everything we needed. Go for a beer and stay for a meal! read more

After a long day at dog beach the gang was hungry and this was the closest open spot. First time here and we didn't know the servers don't come to your table. PSA: you put in your order at the bar and it will be brought to you. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and I was gagged when I saw how big the meal was. And good thing bc I was starved. The food keeps everything smelling good throughout the bar. Security and bar tenders are always down to chat and recognize regular faces.
