My husband and I love this restaurant. It's both casual and classy. The owner is delightful, makes you feel well cared for. And the food is just great. My husband had a salmon salad that was superb. The fish was more fresh than what I've experienced in other local pricier restaurants. It was cooked to perfection. I had a fresh, well-composed salad and great french fries. What I like about this place is you can get an exquisite dinner or a reliably good salad or burger. We come here over and over for a night on the town. Everything we have had at Barefoot is super tasty with quality ingredients. The crab cake salad is sooo delicious as well as their sweet potato fries. I would recommend this place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If I have any complaint at all it would be that they serve you to much food. Way more than we could ever eat. Had a late lunch there yesterday....really good. The waitress was exceptional, as was the soup of the day, creamed spinach...also,patty melt and fish and chips. This place started out slow but really shines now. They feature a wide-ranging menu of delicious food, kind service and a mellow atmosphere. No problems with slow service when you go at off-peak hours. We stopped here on our way through Fairfax on way home from a hike, just a random choice. Let me start by saying the Raisin Walnut French Toast was excellent. My partner said the Apple Sausage scramble was OK. BUT...the service made me give it 3 stars. Here's' why; it took 3 asks for more coffee. I paid $4 for 4 very lame pieces of Apple Sausage Bacon. Waitress asked for our choice of toast, then returned with our plates, and said toast not included. We said we would like to order it anyway, was charged for it, and finally got it just before we finished our meals. My partner said his meal was almost cold. The waitress had the best intentions, but didn't cut it. Slow service. We eat out all the time, but will be hard pressed to return. $30 dollar breakfast, not worth it. Edits: I have returned here twice since my review, and the food is still great.. The service is still sketchy though. But I relaxed more and gave this place an extra star. read more

The Barefoot Cafe is absolutely wonderful. The staff is very accomodating and friendly. When you sit down you get both italian bread and cornbread that is delicious! The owner Tony is a very gracious host that always says hello and sometimes throws in complimentary items to show his appreciation. My boyfriend and I have eaten here about 6 times and never been dissapointed. The clams and mussels appetizer we get every time; we have also had the salmon, salads, oyster stew, ny strip and the special, last time was a hanger steak. It was amazing! The prices are very reasonable for the quality and portions. We think of the barefoot every time we are going out to eat! read more

Tony and his staff have done the town proud. This is a friendly and delicious place to eat. The food is consistently fantastic. My favorite is the homemade granola for breakfast, never tasted anything so good. Lunches are huge salads or sandwiches with all of the special tastes like sundered tomatoes or aioli. We've been dining at Barefoot Cafe five or six times a year (maybe more) for the past 2 1/2 years now and have yet to have a bad experience. I have been there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and enjoyed every meal. The wait staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and owner Tony treats you like you are a guest in his home. Last night we shared the scallops, a special, as an appetizer, and they were hands-down the best scallops I've ever head. A few weeks ago I had lunch there with my daughter and grandson and ordered the chicken salad sandwich with Caesar salad. The portions were huge, and I brought most of the meal home. This quant lovely neighborhood restaurant consistently delivers delicious comfort food in a welcoming warm environment. I've been coming for years with my family and have ALWAYS had terrific food and great friendly service. Whether we are dining as a family (5 kids total ranging from 8 to 22) or date night, it's a "go to" for us. Of note are the generous portions and the seasonal ingredients. This place might have the best prime rib roast consistently of any place I've been. Used to be one of my favorite places for weekend brunch. It was 45 minutes away at the time, but worth it. Always bustling, but the (owner?) was always friendly and greeted us with a smile. Last time I was there, the waiter was definitely disgruntled about something. They were out of all the specials (pretty much everything we tried to order) including the crab benedict, which is all I'd been dreaming about. I even asked for alternatives, he said he didn't have any and tapped his foot impatiently. We ended up with plain eggs and plain coffee, standard fair at an expensive price. Waiter never once smiled, offered any hospitality, and slammed our dishes down like he hated us and his job. We were rushed out of table. Ruined it for me. Really, really disappointing. Sooo disappointing. They get 2 stars because the home fries were good. My husband's hamburger was tasteless, and fries were from frozen (expected more for $16). My eggs benedict Florentine came with barely any home fries, and no tomatoes. Wah waaaa. Dad's corned beef hash was NOT Corned Beef HASH. It was just chunks of corned beef, with home fries on the side. When I mentioned it to the waiter, he was like, no, that's corned beef hash. Well, google it. Just because you call a dish corned beef hash doesn't make it so. It's supposed to be ground up small, with potatoes and onions cooked into it. Dad just took home his food to put on a sandwich later. He shared mom's dish, the breakfast quesadilla which was the best of the bunch. Place is also packed in pretty tight and they bump your chairs over and over to get by with the plates. Remember it being better last time, but it's been ages. Oh well, will go elsewhere next time. read more

I was excited to have had discovered an "organic" non-gmo restaurant down the street from me. I tried their cornbread and thought I was ingesting fresh corn made with healthy oils, which would be butter, lard, or olive oil. I got some the other day to have a nourishing snack while I've been healing from an intense cold. I noticed that the cornbread was making me feel off and the oil in it didn't taste familiar. I called and asked what kind of butter they use and the owner said that they use "Mazola Corn Oil." This oil is gmo, full of pesticides, and is highly processed. It has no nutritional benefit, clogs arteries, and creates toxicity in the body. He said that everything else is made with olive oil. I'm not sure what to believe and wonder what else they are being dishonest about. I'm confused as to how a restaurant can market themselves as sustainable, organic when they also use pesticide and gmo products. read more

This review is long overdue, as I have wanted to write it after every meal I eat at Barefoot Cafe. We discovered this little gem on a whim, and so glad we did. Tony really knows how to provide old world charm with his customer service. Dinners are delightful and fresh(Tony goes to SF fish market on Fridays, so Fri and Sat night the fish is awesome) . Make a reservation on the weekend because the word is out and this place fills up quickly. Killer caesar salad if you are a garlic lover, don't miss it. We started going for breakfast and discovered the same great experience doesn't limit only to evenings. Super great lattes, apple cured bacon and omelets that are excellent . The atmosphere is quaint and tidy, with service to match. Tony is ready to celebrate a ten year anniversary here, we congratulate him on a great job! read more

Have had breakfast here several times, dinner a couple of times, and lunch maybe a dozen times. They offer a side of cole slaw that is better than any I've ever had. Get it with one of their many sandwiches, which tend to be enormous. In fact, the only reservation I have about the Barefoot is that their portions are too big, even for someone with a hearty appetite. The owner is very friendly, as is the wait staff, and they're very flexible if you want to add a little something or remove a little something from the menu items. Good, honest food. read more

I ordered the roast chicken and was surprised ... it was the best I ever had, My companion enjoyed his calamari steak. Bread and dessert were also outstanding.
