Barefoot Cafe was such a pleasant surprise. It has old world mannerisms and charm and yet the food was modern five star cooking and quality. The servings were overly generous. Our table had seafood risotto that was fresh and plentiful. It included scallops, mussels, large shrimp and clams. Also at the table was the chicken and spinach. Excellent!! The Panna Cotta with plum sauce for dessert is a must try as is the cornbread for starters. The fresh flowers in vases with ribbons lended to the ambience and to top it of was the helpful and unassuming service. Thank you for making our evening memorable. read more

We ordered the banana walnut pancakes- they really drew us in when picking a breakfast place. They were not sweet and bready. Disappointing. My friend got the eggs Benedict, I didn't try them but she said they were 5/10. I tried her potatoes and liked them. Then, craziest of all, I got a lox bagel. For $22. And it came DISASSEMBLED. Bagel, salmon, tomato, block of cream cheese, raw red onion, and capers, sitting on my plate. So I had to sit there spreading the cream cheese, getting swipes of it on my hands. And for $22, this was the most basic lox bagel ever. Not even pickled red onions? No micro greens? What the helly. For these enormous prices, I wanted to be wowed. The food wasn't terrible, just fine. But for these prices, fine isn't acceptable. read more

I really enjoyed my meal and overall experience at Barefoot Cafe. There is a very warm and friendly vibe. My family members felt the same. One family member had the lamb, two had the fish and chips, and I had the spinach ravioli. They were all excellent. We also had coconut shrimp and calamari for appetizers, along with the corn bread they provided when we sat down. I found the appetizers to be perfectly prepared. We went there for a special occasion, and at the end of our meal, we were given panna cotta courtesy of the chef. It was so generous and friendly. When we left, the chef, sous chef, and owner all waved goodbye. In short, we loved this place. read more

Solid 3.5 Star Review. We were a party of five and randomly stumbled across this cafe. The outdoor patio area looked really cute and cozy but we were seated indoors for the warmth. The chair my friend sat on was really dusty which lead us to all to double check our seats. Interior design and ambiance definitely felt like a local community vibe spot. It was a tough debate between omelet and a burger since the pictures looked really good. I opted in for the California Burger at medium rare with French fries and the burger was massive. The burger was huge but it wasn't really flavorful. 2 of our friends ordered the Healthful Tuna and one came with missing ingredients. The food was not bad; however, could use a little attention to detail. Service was good, the person that took our order was hospitable and knowledgeable. We just had a fabulous meal here. Our dinner started with some complimentary basket of corn bread -- they were so good that we saved a piece for desert. The Caesar salad was excellent, perfectly dressed with some of the best dressing I have ever had. Flavorful with a kick. My partner had clams & mussels. It came with two generous pieces of garlic bread. They were perfectly cooked in a flavorful broth. I had the Bucatini with meatballs. The tomato sauce had a stew like consistency to it with a variety of different kinds fresh tomatoes in it. The meatballs were large and tasted great. We would not hesitate to recommend this place! Had an early dinner at the Barefoot Cafe tonight with a friend and her daughter. I've eaten here numerous times for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and consider this establishment to be a local gem. We shared a beet salad (ample for 3 to share). Our entrees were the gemilini pasta, ricotta ravioli, and meatloaf with mashed potatoes and spinach. All the entrees were delicious with ample portions. So much, we passed on dessert. However, the owner sent over a com;limentary panna cotta with raspberry reduction - OMG, it was spectacular!!! Service was perfect.. I'll be back again! PS: I thin they recetly painted the inside... it looks a bit brighter and streamlined. I like the new look. read more

We have dined at the Barefoot Café many times. A couple of observations: Yes, the owner can be grouchy at times, but once he gets to know you, he can be quite friendly. He's a quirky kind of person, I wouldn't give it much attention. The other staff at the restaurant and both friendly and courteous. The restaurant is a pleasant, neighborly kind of place. More important, the food here is consistently good. And I mean, consistently. The ingredients are of good quality, including fresh fish, and organic vegetables. Further, the portions are very generous. And I mean, very. I don't know how they do it. The menu is very extensive, and you would expect some dip in quality across a rather large range of dishes. I do not eat meat, and cannot speak to those dishes. As for a number of dishes including fish, chicken, pastas, and salads, I say again, the food has been consistently good - both tasty, and wholesome. Considering the size of portions and quality of ingredients, I'd say that the prices are quite reasonable. Most dishes are served with warm corn bread. I did not expect restaurant in eccentric Fairfax to be this good, but there you have it. And any evening, when cooking at home is a burden, we pick up dinners from the Café, and.....problem solved. Nb I wrote this very favorable review because the restaurant merits the praise. For the reader who might be understandably skeptical: I do not have a personal relationship with the owner or the staff, and no immediate financial interest in the establishment. read more

Fun atmosphere in a very cool town. Locals were having a wedding reception inside so we sat on the side patio. Delightful! We were looking forward to a delicious brunch Sunday at 10:00am. Unfortunately we were so disappointed. Details are: we entered- there were 5-6 workers (2 chefs), 3-4 waiters, 1-2 workers of unknown functions-- we waited 5 mins at our table- trying to flag down someone/anyone who could give us a menu- but all workers seemed disinterested in helping us (!!!). We then "learned" that the waiters don't help each other- ie act as a team to help the customer. We heard a lot of "i told "Your" Waiter that you want something (!!!) Then i ordered a surf and turf benedict- which was sloppy and tasteless- i mentioned this to our waiter and his response was to shrug his shoulders. At a Price of $29.99- i expected more service/action to an almost inedible entree(!!) Besides this- since the kitchen is in the same room with the patrons- the noise from the banging of the spatulas cleaning the grille, the deafening clatter of plates being Stacked, workers speaking so loudly TO EACH OTHER (!!)... the atmosphere was horrible- we were yelling across our small table to even hear each other. The pricing also is about 25-30% higher than other Marin County eating establishments--i am very puzzled about why this place has the ratings i had read before i had selected it to try. read more

Our waiter, Tye (sp?), came to the table and I knew at once that we'd be having a great meal and an enjoyable time. The menu is vast and many items looked delicious. We both chose the Chinese Chicken Salad. Plentiful and very tasty. I had a lemonade which was a bit too sweet for me but was still enjoyable. I prefer a more bitter lemon taste so no fault of the restaurant. Tye provided us with some flavor of the town and filled us in on the happenings that were to occur the next day, Halloween.
