This is the third time we have eaten here, and we will not return. Where to start..... The food was mediocre, but the price was higher than most expensive hotels! I ordered the cinnamon walnut french toast, and my daughter ordered the fish and chips. I ordered a cappuccino and my daughter ordered a macha latte. The french toast was limp and flavorless. There was no noticable walnuts, and the cinnamon taste was almost not there. I wondered if they gave me their plain cinnamon toast. I asked my daughter to taste it, and she said she could detect a small taste of it. I took most of it home, and today it went in the trash. The fish and chips appeared to be from a manufactured box. They were small pieces and tasted ok, but but they looked very different than most restaurant fish and chips. A thin coating of some breading that was unrecognizable. Only two pieces arrived. The waiter might have overheard my comment ("wow, this was $25.00 dollars?") and he returned with another piece of fish saying "I forgot this piece". Frankly, I have never had that happen in a restuarant, and I reviewed restaurants in a previous career. But what really got me was the prices. My Cap was $7.95, and the latte was $9.95. The French toast I believe was $18.00 0r $19.99 and the fish was $25.00. Our bill in totall was $66.00 and change, not including tip. I compared prices of other breakfast places nearby. They were nowhere near as high, especially for the drinks. Even Comforts (a much more high end cafe) was less. I had a memory that I brought an intern of mine here last year, and they offered fruit with her meal. They did not mention the up charge. We were annoyed then. I understand the need to keep up with prices. But the food better be excellent, and this wasn't. I will go to the other close by breakfast houses like Lundy's, Theresa and Johnneys, or Comforts. We had lunch at this restaurant. I had the roast chicken salad and my friend had the beet salad. The chicken salad had arugula and raisins. It was nicely dressed. My friend thought the beet salad was skimpy on beets. Service was adequate. The male service did not have his shirt tucked in. We ate outside on picnic benches which were a bit hard. read more

We had such an exceptional dinner on Saturday night. The food was superb--excellent caprese salad--and our entrees included chicken, lamb, and scallops--all prepared with such artistry and great flavor. Every time I drive past Barefoot Cafe these days I think "I need to go there again soon". With the doors thrown open for summer (and covid) and the ample al fresco seating constructed on the low-traffic side-street, the place is looking quite inviting and finally prompted a post-hike visit when I declared that I was starving. Major props to Barefoot Cafe for being one of the few covid-era businesses I've gone to who seems to be acing the service game. I know it's awkward and difficult to find workers these days let alone those who do their job in a way that makes one feel welcome and Barefoot is doing it. Right there? That sparked joy. What else? Well, the menu is huge, with breakfast-y omelets and pancakes available each day until 3 p.m. But that's just a small part. There are salads, sandwiches, burgers, and much more. I opted for the Roast Chicken Salad ($16.95) which included golden raisins, grilled onions, and arugula in a very light dressing. The salad was good but I did wish for a greater variety of ingredients. Pumpkin seeds, blue cheese (or feta) crumbles, and cucumber slices would make this salad shine. My dining partner opted for a Greek Omelet ($14.95) and I was happy to observe that her plate was amply stocked as well. We both left well-satisfied. Barefoot Cafe sort of reminded me of the way restaurants once were: Big menus, full plates, and good service. I know I leave a lot of not so great reviews. The current state of dining out necessitates this as I want others to understand which places are generally terrible. My review of the Barefoot Cafe will be positive for once! It's rare that I'm entirely impressed with a restaurant these days. The Barefoot Cafe just did NOT disappoint on ANY level. The decor, location, food, and service checked all of my boxes. The menu was also magnificent. I immediately wanted to make return visit to experience their breakfast, and the rest of the dinner menu... The service was what I seek from high end dining, and still find lacking much of the time. The gentleman assigned to our table gave us the perfect amount of attention. One of the owners even came out to chat briefly. Remember: this was a late afternoon on a no-nothing day. It wasn't a Saturday night at peak foot traffic. I think the one thing that stood out over everything else was the portion size of our meals. Goodness gracious! I ate half of my salad and that was challenging. There was plenty to bring home for the next day. I wish this place the best of luck. It's a true gem and needs to be appreciated! read more

The chef was just as pleasant! The dinner menu is the Jam! I hear they have a wonderful breakfast, but I didn't have time this visit. But the pasta is authentically delicious! Like muahhhh! I had a great breakfast on my first visit here, a late Wed morning, as I was headed back home from a weekend away. Casual congenial ambiance but attentive to the food experience. Waffles are hard to come by. The banana and pecan waffle here was solid. Not crispy on the outside like some, but very delicious. The scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked (not underdone or brown and not greasy). They served pico de gallo and a green sauce as house condiments, a nice touch. The bacon that I asked to be well done was actually well done and that doesn't always happen at many places in my experience. The grapefruit juice was nice and fresh. The person taking orders was friendly and did a great job. Would definitely return any time of day next time I am in the area. Only things I can say stuck out as potential negatives were the exterior bathroom door that could use TLC (something I notice is very common unfortunately) and the old school tinny ceiling speakers that don't do justice to the upbeat music they were playing (could use an upgrade to something more pleasing than just mid and upper range). 10 years later and I still love Barefoot. Barefoot Cafe is one of our regular date night locations and we never have complaints. Service is great, the food is always exceptional, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Some nights they have local musicians play and that is always a fun surprise. The best part of Barefoot Cafe- the cannolis! As a native San Franciscan, I grew up on cannolis and they seem hard to find in Marin. Well, thank you Barefoot Cafe for making sure I get my regular fix of amazing cannolis! Just last night I walked down to Barefoot and placed an order for two to go. The filling was plentiful and done perfectly. If you are in the neighborhood, you need to stop in to Barefoot and have a drink, a great meal, or my all-time favorite, one or two cannolis! read more

I had high hopes for this place as their rating was way above average, with a good quantity of reviews. Came in for a weekday breakfast on my way home from a camping trip. I cannot share the same enthusiasm as many of the other reviews. The place is very quaint and cute. Love these small town restos. Almost had a European flair, nice plates and silverware, and Italian old timey music on. The service was friendly with just one server and I think the owner on the floor. It wasn't that busy but I bet this place can get packed on a weekend. I wanted something basic as coming from a camping trip, I just wanted something comforting. I was just gonna get a bacon n eggs plate, maybe with a side of pancake. But was sold on a 'homemade' version of corned beef hash on verbal special. Corned Beef Hash ($20/2.5*) First off not really a true 'hash' dish. Usually for this dish, the corned beef is fried til crisp WITH the potato, so it is essentially one. Here it was separated, corned beef on one side and potatoes on the other. Not a huge deal breaker as the potatoes were indeed crisp and nice. But the corned beef was super strange, never, ever tasted anything like it. It was real and crumbled corned beef and not anything canned, which was legit. But it had this strong sour/tart taste to it, like it was cooked with a good dose of vinegar, or that vinegar was sprinkled onto the meat. Totally threw me for a loop. I ate most of it, cuz I was pretty hungry, but just so weird. Instead of toast, I saw on the menu, you could actually get a cranberry scone with a side of lemon curd. You don't see that too often, so I was all over it. Nice sized scone. But darn it, it was kinda dry. Like the exterior was almost resembling a biscotti cookie, and you know how dry those are, amirite. The lemon curd was good, and I had to use all of it to relieve the dryish scone. Got a cup of coffee with breakfast and it came in a nice thick cup with a nice side of half n half. But it wasn't any better than any other diner coffee, so the presentation exceeded the taste. And the one server never checked to refill it. Even though I wasn't loving the coffee, I still needed more to get through the scone. And at over $4 per order, ya just kinda expect a refill. I got one but had to flag someone down to get it, while I saw another table get refilled. Maybe regulars get another level of attention. So kinda pricey and too many curveballs for me. I think my rating is justified for this particular experience. And even though not great, I would still give this place another chance if passing through, maybe going with my original plan of order. read more

First time here, and had a great experience! I was with my monthly book club, and the owner graciously let us have the meeting in his restaurant. He gave friendly service, and even treated us to the most amazing panna cotta dessert. The cornbread, Cesar salads, and pasta with meatballs were all delicious! I had a vanilla Italian soda, and it was yummy! I'm so glad that I found out about this restaurant, and look forward to coming back without the book club and trying more of the food and drinks! Cute location Good food Great service After dropping off our kids at Girl Scout camp down the street, us parents decided to grab breakfast. We stumbled upon this place (thanks to the help of Yelp), and couldn't have been more happy with our choice. First of all, Fairfax is the cutest little town with lots of charm. Imagine Gilmore Girls vibes. There were a total of 11 of us, so we we worried restaurants in the town could not accommodate us. But, as soon as we walked in, we were greeted with kindness. For a small place, they had quite a selection including Chilaquiles, Benedict's and pear almond pancakes. I was debating on the dungennes crab benedict and corned beef benedict. Luckily, they serve a surf and turf version that has one of each! Since there were a lot of us, everyone pitched in from the wait staff to the chef. Our food came out quickly and was just as delicious as it was beautiful. Instead of your typical crab cake Benedict's you see, this one consisted of actual Dungeness crab pieces. The corned beef was tender with just the right amount of peppers and onions to add flavor. Their breakfast potatoes were tender with a little bit of crispiness on the edges. And to top it off, they also serve mimosas, both regular and mango! This place has it together and you can tell. The place is clean and you can see right into the kitchen area. Even in that chaotic of an area, I noticed their pans above the stove were neatly stacked. The total cost for the 11 of us was $400 which included tax and gratuity. That is $36 a person after tax and tip which is not bad at all considering most of us ordered the surf and turf Benedict and many of us ordered drinks including mimosas. You can tell it is a popular place because by the time we left, people were waiting for a table. This is a definitely a little gem that I want to visit again, maybe for lunch. read more

I went here on a weekend where the neighborhood gets busy, so parking is hard to find here. It has a quaint feel to it with lots of mom and pop shops/ eateries. They're is the option of indoor and outdoor seating here. It wasn't too crowded indoors or outdoors, even though we had gotten there around 11 AM. The waiter was very nice, and the food was fresh and delicious (got the pesto omelet). They recommended pumpkin flavored pancakes, which were very good too. Food is a bit pricey, but it's normal for many of the places around the North Bay. read more

The wait time to get my order was extremely long. Also, the servers never tells you that some ingredients on the menu are missing. Last time I ordered a dish with scallops and were missing, I asked the server and they said they were out which is fine but they supposed to tell you in the beginning so I can order something else. A very expensive okay restaurant. Not much to write home about here. Pretty standard brunch/diner fare with nothing remarkable to note. The pancakes were good, but not fully cooked... so they had a soggy mushy texture. The bacon was good quality, but not crisp... so it was soggy and left dripping grease on the plate. The eggs were okay. It was good to see the eggs benedict be well done, with a soft runny yolk. That's the reason for 3 vs 2 stars. The service was okay. They were a little shorthanded so we waited ~5min to get water. Also the first set of cutlery I got were still dirty, with a couple of stuck on boogers on the knife and napkin. We had to get a replacement set, and the waiter seemed confused. Our food hadn't arrived, so I think he must have used them somehow... I just wanted a clean knife. The biggest issue is the price. Everything is $18+ here. You want 2 pancakes? $18. You want a Denver omlette? $22. Crazy prices for slow service and just okay food. TL;DR: very expensive and not very good. read more

The strategy to have pumpkin AND cinnamon coffee cake pancakes as an appetizer worked well to get a little taste of these delicacies and take the edge off our hunger so we could more easily pace ourselves through the huge breakfast portions. Wow! We stopped by about 20 minutes before closing as we were getting married the next day and had been running around all day sorting out last minute bits. SO GLAD WE DID!!! The waiter was incredibly kind. Offered our party recommendations and explanations with no hesitation, despite the close-to-closing time. The owner was the chef and despite being very busy filling orders, he took time to welcome us. They gave us cornbread to start. Delicious soft and fluffy. Yummy. I had the NY steak with garlic butter, fresh green beans and fingerling potatoes. It was superb. My partner had a rocket salad that made him very happy. And our guest enjoyed the herbed chicken. We had asked for a couple of substitutions which were not an issue at all. We were not rushed. We were treated like family. At the end of the night, I noticed the owner gave a man who was down-on-his-luck a couple of to go boxes filled with food. How lovely. Such love and compassion I rarely see. To top it off, the owner gave us a celebratory panna cotta. This heavenly cloud was sat upon a raspberry reduction which accentuated its creaminess. The perfect pairing. The room is open aired with large gorgeous windows and tables that allowed us to sit comfortably. The decor is tasteful and not over done. Given it sits so close to the street, I was pleasantly surprised at the negation of noise. The chef is at the top center of the room, conducting his magic for all to see. What a joyful experience this was. We want to thank Barefoot Cafe for adding a page to our love story.
