Stopped in for a cup of coffee last Saturday prior to a workshop that I was attending. The customer service was quick, efficient & upbeat -- and I received my hot cup of coffee and was on my way. I later discovered that I didn't have my designer sunglasses with me and called the café to see if they may have found them. Anthony, one of their front-of-house staff (who originally served me the coffee), assured me that they found my shades on the counter on the newspaper and would place them into safekeeping for me. When I stopped by to pick them up several hours later after the workshop concluded, another pleasant front-of-house staff member found them and handed them over to me. Stopped by this gem in adorable Fairfax after a brisk hike with the boyfriend. Very cute little restaurant off the main road in the city. It wasn't quite dinner time when we stumbled in, so the restaurant was very empty. The TAB (turkey, avocado, and bacon) sandwich was absolutely stellar. Highly recommend if you're looking for something a little more than your standard BLT. Thick cut bacon fried to a nice crunch will always make my heart beat faster. The cornbread is absolutely to DIE for. The minestrone was okay. A little bland for my tastes, but not terrible. It was a good side for the sandwich, but I won't go out of my way to order it in the future. Be forewarned that you will be getting the breakfast and lunch menu in the wee minutes before 5PM, which was kind of a bummer. The dinner menu looked so delicious. read more

Good food and if you get Susie as your server - it is great service. We were regulars for quite a while at Barefoot Cafe. The food is creatively prepared and always tastes great. We just became tired of the price we had to spend for breakfast, which ended up being about $10 more (for 2 people) than other comparable breakfast spots in Southern Marin. The service is great if you get Susie. We have had other servers and were very disappointed. One woman who served us at dinner one night was actually nearly non-communicative and did not smile. We came most regularly for breakfast, though did have three lunches and one dinner there. The owner, Tony, has always been super friendly and is welcoming to all of his customers - which is a great sign that I respect from proprietors. We will continue to come back, just not quite as often as we had been in the past (used to be weekly at one time). read more

Barefoot Cafe was a "stumble" to say the least. My husband and I were supposed to eat at The Hummingbird Cafe, which is across the road from Barefoot Cafe, but we forgot our Groupon for it and decided we'd rather try another place and come back another time to use our Groupon. So, we happened upon Barefoot Cafe, and let me tell you...it was a GLORIOUS accident! I was really impressed with the open room and inviting atmosphere, plus, at 11:45am, they were still packed from the breakfast/brunch crowd. We were seated within a few minutes and happily on our way to devouring the menu. THERE ARE SO MANY ITEMS! It was almost excruciating trying to pick out a dish to try, but I ended up settling for the Crab Benedict, while the husband opted for the Corn Beef Hash Benedict (both items were from their special daily menu.) It took awhile for our food to arrive; we were also a little peeved when we saw the table next to us receive their food before us, even though they ordered after we did. But alas...the food arrived and it was AMAZING. Honestly, the Crab Benedict was one of the best benedicts I've ever eaten and I was smitten with their country home-style fries (potatoes.) The hollandaise...WOW. It was thick, creamy, and had a dash of lemon-y-ness. It was just simply delectable. This was a great dinner spot on the Friday night my wife and I arrived in Fairfax for the first time. It had all the qualities we were looking for, a great dinner menu, indoors seating, full bar, and a location right in the downtown area. The service was outstanding, with Tyrone taking care to make sure we were happy and well fed, and was very informative and knowledgable of the menu and the specials. The food was top notch, the salmon special was perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful, the Crab Cakes were exquisite, and the meatballs were tender and delicious. The Beet Salad could have used some more beets and less greenery, but it was also a great dish. Would definitely come back again next time we are in the area! read more

Dinner last evening again reaffirms my opinion​ that Tony and the team at Barefoot deserve many accolades for top service and excellent food. The crab cakes made with fresh crab were out-of-this-world-good and the fresh seafood risotto​ (always a favorite) was better than ever (how does he get such favorable​ scallops?) and packed with seafood (not rice), and the arugula​ and shredded chicken salad was better than I had remembered--the chicken is so moist and tender (usually, I'm not a fan of chicken, but Tony's is fantastic!). The wine list is reasonably priced, the beer list is perfectly preened. My husband loves the bread, but he wandered over to the cornbread. Sold! Before I gave up carbs, I devoured the entire basket of cornbread--now, he knows why! read more

This is our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE place to come! Over the last 15 years it became our family tradition to come here for family breakfasts and it is always out of this world. The owner makes you feel like family and the staff are always wonderfully welcoming and warm too. We love the spaciousness and airy interior and the acoustics are such that you can always have a conversation without having to shout which can be an issue in some other places. In meeting with friends from Berkeley for lunch, we found a midway point in Fairfax (coming from Santa Rosa) for a weekend brunch. There were 10 of us for 11:00 but we were seated almost immediately. Enormous menu with some creative items. We pretty much ordered the gamut (omelettes, benedict, waffles), etc. The portions were very large and fairly priced. My lox benedict was very good. The only downside was the service was a bit slow once served, I think they got overwhelmed as the line grew outside. But it was a very good experience and worth visiting from around the Bay if you are looking for a new brunch experience. read more

So happy we tried this place. My wife and I were more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of food from this local gem. We are new to Fairfax and believe we have found a new favorite place. I had bookmarked this place for breakfast in San Rafael and we decided to go before we got on the road. Very empty when we walked in. We were greeted quickly. Good breakfast menu. They had black teas on there but were out so that was disappointing. I had eggs with sour dough and bacon. The food was good. I prefer my home friea cooked some more. My husband enjoyed his dish and they did have a kids menu whichbwas great. Certainly a place we would come back to if we were in the area again. read more

Really tasty food! We had breakfast, so this is oriented towards there breakfast service. Nice environment, they do a good job making everyone fit. My Wife and I went there for Thanksgiving. The service was slow and the food(although yummy) was extremely overpriced even on a holiday when other restaurants with comparable menu's were half the price. Food (although organic) was bland and cornbread was unheated as the owner is "very old school"and doesn't even use a microwave thus my desert (which was Pecan pie was cold, not very tasty and heavy. I have paid more that this before for dinners around the bay area however with that payment goes the expectation on much better preparation and service. We had to ask for water 2-3 times along with containers to box up food we were unable to consume. read more

Salads (about $17) poured from a restaurant supply produce bag, garnished with some undistinguished protein (tuna salad, chicken salad, whatever) from yet another restaurant supply container, accented with - get this - Velveeta. Frozen onion rings. Lattes with warm brown water smelling faintly of coffee. An absolutely huge menu, none of which is particularly good. Very pleasant staff, so there's that. read more

I lived in Fairfax for a few years and ate at Barefoot all the time. I hadn't been back in 2 years and had brunch there recently. I tried something I never had before from their specials (but had seen it there a few times) - the Banana Coconut Pancakes....OMG. I've tried all their Benedicts, Huevos Rancheros, French Toast, good ol' eggs and bacon, as well as some of their lunch and dinner food. Every meal has always been solid. Service is great as well. They tend to get a little busy for mid morning brunch, but the wait is well worth it. read more

This place is the shining jewel of the fairfax restaurant scene! I'm so glad that I decided to come here. This Christmas Eve I was unable to travel home to my family, so I decided that I would treat myself and my sister to something special! I had anticipated the worst, because it's one of the few places open on such a big holiday... but I was pleasantly surprised by the charming service I received! We arrived at 7:30, there were a few parties waiting outside but they seated us right away. The place was very crowded, every table was filled, and yet the waiters seemed to go out of their way to make sure that my sister and I had everything our hearts desired- they even brought us dessert on the house! If the lovely staff weren't enough, the food was just incredible. I will admit that I had a hard time choosing from the extensive menu, but was ultimately satisfied with the prime rib, which was superb. We finished with a perfectly made affogado (my favorite!) There is something here for everyone to enjoy, and if you are looking for a special night, you will not be disappointed! read more

Usually after eating French toast eggs and bacon I feel a little over full, sluggish and in a food coma. But Tony cooked his dishes so fresh and so well I couldn't help but indulge and eat more, and I felt energized and ready for the day. Not sluggish and over full. The orange juice is fresh squeezed. The eggs are amazing The service is superb I will probably end up eating here every single morning for breakfast, I haven't tried their other meals but I am sure that they are equally as amazing. I met with 5 friends for dinner and we all loved this place! This quaint restaurant is on a street full of cute shops. There's a parking lot across the street with plenty of parking even on a Sat evening. Our group shared 2 orders of calamari & 2 caprese salads. We had a charming waiter who convinced me to try the boneless rainbow trout with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was outstanding! We then shared their famous panna cotta for dessert - it was phenomenal!! Their coffee and outstanding service was what made me give this restaurant an extra star. The ambience was good with all the local folks in good mood and white noise chatter but the food was a little bland and didnt get what I wanted because for whatever reason, that dish was "out". What irked me was the order of 6 piece onion rings that they charged $7. There was nothing special about those onion rings. Other dishes were reasonably priced. I had breakfast the day prior at The Hummingbird across the street and while my mind was saying yes to chicken and waffles, my body was telling me no.
