There's also a min spend per person separate from the tickets for the musicians. Food here is mostly traditional American with some Italian and Latin influences. The last time I was here I had a burger and fries which were solid. Roasted salmon was tasty and the quesadillas they used to offer were decent too, and they have an extensive wine and liquor selection. We were smartly near the front of the line so we got my favorite spot, right on the bar rail near the stage. The drinks were good and strong, the service was quick and succinct. The jam was incredible. I didn't know all the guys but the guy on drums is a legend named muppet. He held back on his solos on the first 2 songs. On the third, when the baton was passed to him, he ripped off an impressive solo that would be amazing for anyone, and he is 93. They said they could and booked me in for 9pm at the bar. I also noticed a bunch of reservations had appeared on Resy again so not sure what was going on with that. When I arrived, I was surprised to see several empty tables considering the event was "sold out", in their words. I sat at the bar, and had the cheese plate and Match Made in Heaven drink. The cheese plate had great cheese but was lacking in accoutrements - almonds and breadsticks were provided but there was no spread given or even honey, which is typically a must in a cheese plate. The Match Made in Heaven drink was a rum forward drink served with a piece of chocolate candy. It was a good drink but nothing out of this world. Jazz music had been playing when I arrived but then ended around 9:15 and they then started blasting regular music in the bar, which was too loud. The service at the bar was not very attentive and I had to flag down a server multiple times for water and also to inquire about the check. I noticed the server was more attentive with the larger parties. The Handshake team seemed nice though they did not serve and just prepared the drinks. Pricing was standard for a NY bar. The bar is located in the lobby of the NH Hotel and the entrance is accessible. I did not use the restroom so I can't comment on them. Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed with the experience at MAD Bar for the pop up. I wonder if visiting the real Handshake bar would be a better experience.

I ordered a diet coke and medium-rare steak frites during lunch service on a very quiet Friday where I was the only lunch customer. (the breakfast crowd had trickled out by the time I got my food). The server dropped me a not-diet coke and vanished for quite awhile, leaving me with empty water and a sugar bomb. The second I asked, "are you sure this is a diet coke?" I saw the look on her face and a "oops, I poured a normal one" then fixed it quickly. This is after having ordered my drink twice, having to correct her repeat-back to diet coke both times. When my steak came out quite a while later, she said "medium steak frites" when dropping it off. I said I definitely ordered medium-rare as I never get any cut cooked harder and she offered a remake- I declined given it would probably take another 20 minutes and it was at least a proper medium cook. The food was done well, nothing special of course but it seems that the kitchen can execute albeit very slowly for a completely empty place. I made a request for the f&b manager to drop by so I could let him know and he handled it very well. I still have ~$70 of dining credits to use during my stay, so maybe I will see how they handle dinner service.

What followed was one of the most thoughtful and memorable hospitality experiences I've ever had. Ramon set the tone with a sense of mystery and genuine engagement. At one point, he casually asked me which dessert I thought was the best on the menu. I assumed it was friendly conversation, not realizing he was quietly planning something special. When he returned with a chocolate mousse, accompanied by Karina, they surprised me by singing happy birthday, soon joined by much of the dining room. It was equal parts embarrassing and incredibly fun, and it created a moment I won't forget. The brunch itself was fantastic, steak, eggs, home fries, and drinks were all excellent. Just when we thought the experience couldn't get better, Ramon returned again with two glasses of champagne for my friend and me. It was such a generous and thoughtful gesture that truly elevated the entire experience. Feeling genuinely grateful, I tried to discreetly tip Ramon $50 as a thank-you. He immediately handed it back without even looking at it and said that since it was my birthday, he couldn't accept it. That moment spoke volumes about his character and the culture of hospitality you've clearly built at The Ivy Room. Anonsa and I decided to spend the evening at the penthouse afterwards and the service was equally amazing throughout the evening. I wanted to take the time to recognize Ramon, Karina, Roberto and the two John's for delivering hospitality at its absolute best. I kid you not, Ramon had patrons wishing me a happy birthday well into the evening. Experiences like this are rare, and they turn guests into lifelong supporters.
