Nikki-is an angel sent from heaven. After MANY phone calls and emails, she said YES. I cried. Why you ask? Due to IVDD, my 7 yr old disabled Newfoundland lost her ability to stand/walk. Nobody would groom/bathe her, not even our groomer. I am so impressed with her patience and kindness. Nikki laid on the floor with her, bathed her and then shaved and trimmed her. Our 8 month old lab puppy, Chester loves the daycare and so do we. His tail wags 90 beats per minute when we drop him off in the morning and 30 wags when we pick him up. I love bark Avenue! I drive from North Scottsdale to board my dog Bella, Bc of the care and love they have! The staff is amazing, and Nikki is the best groomer I've ever had. My dog is a rescue and can be quite a handful, (stress reactive and owner protective) so I appreciate everything they do and I trust that while I'm away bella is well taken care of. Their staff is well trained and help me bring bella in without incidents. If you have a reactive dog, just call when you get there to make sure the lobby is clear. We brought our two dogs (Molly and Kai) for 3 nights of boarding during the holiday season. Their prices were reasonable for the high quality service we received. Before deciding to board the dogs they toured us the large facility. Everything was clean, spacious, and surprisingly quiet. We didn't bring our cats for boarding, but their cat condos looked very luxurious. Some had "catios" (outdoor cat patios) or viewing windows. I will definitely be bringing my cats here for long stay next time. Anyways, dropping the dogs off was super easy. The staff was really nice and assured us on all our questions/requests. Bark Avenue had a very flexible pick up time, which was extremely useful for us because the holiday season caused some traffic on the way from California. We picked up our dogs around 6:30pm (close to closing time), but their staff was still super courteous during the whole process. I can't speak for my dogs, but I'm positive that they enjoyed their stay. They weren't as stir-crazy when picking them up and were just as happy as when we dropped them off. To know that our dogs were being cared for gave us the peace of mind to enjoy our holiday vacation. I am definitely coming back Bark Avenue for any future boardings! read more

The people here are very rude. I picked both of my dogs up and found them covered in urine. I was very upset, they didn't offer them a bath or anything, until I mentioned it to them in my upset voice. I repeat dog lovers, do not send your dogs here. My two labradoodles just stayed at Bark Avenue pet resort August 29-September 4, 2018. The puppy who is 7 months old came home with KENNEL COUGH. My 2 year old labradoodle has stayed with the resort numerous times and nothing has every happened. Today when I picked both dogs up nothing was said by the staff that anything was wrong at the resort. However tonight when I called to complain and speak to a manager. I was told that there was a response plan in place and that other people had called with the same illness- Kennel Cough. I spent over $600 for six days, I would expect my dogs to be taken care of and not come home sick. On their website it says that there are plans in place to keep all dogs healthy including vaccination requirements and sterilization of food bowls. The cough is so deep and so loud there is no way that none of the staff back there did not hear these dogs making a terrible sound. I would not board your dogs there until this problem is resolved. I waited on hold for a manager and then was sent to voicemail. I then called back and was told the manager had already gone home for the day and I told them I needed to speak to someone so I'm hoping the general manager will call me back. For a higher- end pet resort this is not acceptable. UPDATE: Jeff - GM called me back at 5:50pm and offered for our puppy to be seen by the Bark Avenue veterinary hospital at no charge. read more

Our dog Kylo has been a regular at Bark Ave for daycare for a while but we just started training with Ryan and I cannot sing his praises enough. We have a German shorthair pointer (a VERY high energy breed) and Ryan has been wonderful working with her. We get daily communications from him with videos outlining techniques that he is working on with her and reports on how her progress is going. If I could give them negative stars I would. The last time I took my dog to them for grooming she came home with multiple scrapes which I am assuming was from the shaver on her tummy and under her tail. She had at least 8 such scrapes on her. I was absolutely horrified! She's 10 years old and had been groomed here in the past without issue. She was so traumatized by this experience that the next day she threw up everything she ate or drank. I had to take her to her vet to the tune of over $200 in vet bills for medication to get her to be able to keep food down. Just an awful experience. read more

I took my Husky in for grooming. My first observation was they followed Covid precautions. They checked him in and when they called me to pick him up I went right away. I don't like for him to Wait for me. They brought him out and What struck me was his tail was wagging And he wasn't trying to get to me by dragging the Groomer to me. He was happy and glad to see me but he wasn't trying to get away from there. That Said a lot to me. He wasn't stressed and hadn't Been penned up. He was happy so I am happy! I was also assured there are a number of changes happening so that much of my concerns are being addressed. I will try them again and hope the old Bark Avenue reappears. Following is a letter I sent to Bark Avenue's owner. It has been over 2 weeks without any form of response so I am now leaving a Yelp review. October 19, 2019 Dear Bark Avenue, My husband and I moved to Arizona in 2011. After touring your facility we were thrilled that we had found a well-run business with knowledgeable and delightful staff. I was happy knowing we had a reliable boarding facility to use. You have cared for all our dogs since then. Recently, our three dogs were boarded for a few days while we were out of town. When making the reservation, the young woman I spoke with was having a great deal of difficulty figuring out how to make the appointment. I finally gave up and tried again on another day. I managed to get the boarding scheduled but found the same level of confusion when I dropped the dogs off. Many people unsure what they were doing. One of our dogs, Maya, is new to our household. I mentioned to the person taking her back to be a bit cautious as I was concerned Maya could be a fear biter. The person immediately took her face and kissed Maya on the muzzle. While I understand she was trying to be kind, placing your face to a dog's face under normal circumstances, let alone after just being warned, is poor judgement. She then also allowed Maya to pull her over to a customer who also reached out to pet her. Both of these actions made me question the common sense of the staff and made me uncomfortable to leave our dogs. I had further problems when calling from out of town to check in. The desk was unable to get a response from the back as to the condition of the dogs, they offered to return my call but did not and when I called back, there was confusion as to who my dogs even were. While any of these things alone could indicate a busy day, all put together over three days, makes me think there is a bigger issue. The greatest disappointment came though, in the new boarding insurance plan you offer. While I can understand the offer of the coverage for a medical event, the "coverage also includes" section disturbed me. I was shocked to learn that without coverage simple things such as enticing a nervous dog to eat would be considered an extra fee. This was even more troublesome after learning that you had switched to dry food only without canned being offered along with. Our dogs are thankfully good eaters but what about the frightened dog that needs some incentive? You also list that soiled toys, bedding and any dog spot cleaning would again be additional. With the late morning and early evening normal potty times you allow, I would imagine many dogs have difficulty holding their urine and stool. To think I might be dinged for every small thing that I would expect in the normal course of care, makes me wonder about whether the care of the animals, or additional income, is your highest priority. In the end we picked up our dogs and I thankfully asked for a breakdown of charges. My bill reflected several late night potty breaks past our pick up date. Again there was confusion when I called to get the bill corrected. My dogs are far too important to me to take the chance of them not being cared for properly which is how all these events portray your facility. I had to select a star but I would give it no star if I could. I was about 3 minutes late for my appointment, which is my bad, I'll own that. There was a customer at the desk but the receptionist, Hayley, didn't acknowledge me in any way and I waited about five minutes for the customer to leave. While trying to check in, Hayley proceeded to tell me they couldn't take my dog Tilly, I'd have to rebook because I was almost 10 minutes late. Now I'm not prone to impatience or anger but this seemed wrong to me. There was no attempt to accommodate me in any way. The way I see it, Tilly was booked for two hours with them so, on a scale, just common sense would tell you that my 3 minutes taken out of that two hours.....well.....ridiculous that they would not even consider taking her. So to the manager Jessica I would say, if your staff can treat me and my dog with this disrespect and lack of care, I don't think I want my little girl Tilly in your care, for even 3 minutes. read more

While my dogs survived and we did get them back heathy, they DO NOT communicate with the owners, they tell you what you want to hear, and do not follow through with the instructions you have for YOUR pet. The facility is clean and well maintained but their concern for the pet and/or the owners is non existent and their charges for basic care of an animal were ridiculous. I purchased a Groupon and they honored the first pet fee but not the second. When I asked why their food and water dispensers were not used she stated that there wasn't enough room. I paid for a larger "4x6 room" (aka cage) and my dogs weigh 25 lbs combined. My dogs toys were lost and their collars were placed in their water dispenser (full of water) that we provided. I only gave 2 stars because my pets survived. read more

Even worse, after asking girl at counter to walk dog out on leash because she is hard to carry when she squirms around and being assured she would be walked on leash dog gets carried out. Fortunately not dropped but next time who knows- yet there won't be a next time with our dog and I would caution you from placing your pet in their care as well- given what they did in front of me I am of the opinion that they must treat the animals horribly when not being watched. read more

I have four cats. When my boyfriend and I were going on vacation for a week, we knew we would have to board our one "special" cat who has mental issues. If we didn't, he would terrorize the other cats and pee on the floor while we were away. Also, he is on two medications for depression and anxiety that have to be administered as liquids because he won't take pills. So, we didn't give the staff at Bark Avenue the easiest assignment, but they took such good care of my special boy! They gave him his meds and kept me posted on how he was doing. I could tell they genuinely cared. Bark Avenue has several housing options for cats and we picked the highest-end option for our special boy but the pricing was still very reasonable. The whole staff is incredibly wonderful with her and they treat her with complete love and TLC, so much so that she often doesn't even want to leave when I pick her up. Like many others, I became very unhappy with Bark Ave after the management change. I tried to stick it out and had discussions with the daycare manager but I ended up removing my dog from daycare completely after some progressively concerning incidents and that manager's lack of response to my concerns. I reached out to higher management after pulling my dog out and they responded immediately and with obvious care about the issues I'd experienced. Change came quickly, including the old manager being let go and a new one brought in. Nichole has been nothing short of amazing, and in a very short time she's made great progress. New systems and procedures have been put in place to help eliminate the problems and communication issues. My dog was SO EXCITED when we brought her back for a trial day, and we have been very pleased with the changes and the care our dog has received since. She is excited to be there and comes home happy. If you've had issues in the last 6 months or so I would urge you to go in and talk with Nichole, and give Bark Ave another try. read more

I have used this place for years. I never had a problem until a management change. They wouldn't take my dog until she was updated on her bordetella vaccine (understandable). I have given my dogs their own vaccines for years so I had the vaccine shipped to me on ice, next day service. When I called for the appointment they asked if she had been updated. I said yes I vaccinated her myself. She made the appointment with me and as soon as I walked in they refused me because she wasn't vaccinated by a licensed vet. I am writing this review for those of us that vaccinate on our own. Many many people do. I was shown how to properly do this by a vet when I was a breeder. Many breeders vaccinate. If this is the policy it should be something they need to share with the client beforehand. BTW, Kennel Cough (Bordetella) is highly contagious and the vaccine should be administered at least one week before the appointment and every six months. I wonder what their policy is on that? I wouldn't know because they never mentioned this important information. Here is another fact, the vaccine isn't 100% effective. read more

I've been taking my rescue staffordshire bull terrier here for almost a year now, and this last trip really made me want to stay with them. My pup has aggression issues and they were very understanding and worked with me to get everything done with her. They even stayed late to make sure she was not worked up over being rushed.
