They easily rate five stars for bending over backwards to accommodate our group of about 30 on a Sunday evening, at the end of our convention week. This is an annual informal gathering of friends who stay over an extra day after our convention to have one more dinner before we disperse around the world. We had a verbal commitment from a nearby restaurant to seat our group, together, at a certain time. When we all showed up by exactly that time, and some of our group a few minutes earlier, we learned they had given our seats away, and that it would be 30 to 45 minutes, at least, before we could be seated. And even then, we would probably not all be seated together. One of our members set off down the street in search of another nearby place that could accommodate us. After checking out another couple places, he walked to Barley House, explained our predicament, and they told him that they only had one person in the kitchen, one person behind the bar, and a manager, but if we were patient and didn't mind waiting, they would be happy to have us. When we got there, they immediately started serving us drinks, and told us that we had the whole patio at our disposal. It was a good weather night, by now about 6:30 PM, and most of us gladly headed out there to relax and chat. No loud music, no crowd, just all of us together on the patio. It was glorious. We all honored their request to order at the counter and wait patiently for our food and drinks, and all went extremely smoothly. They were super nice and accommodating, the food was good, the drinks were even better, and we had a wonderful evening. I had a Jack and Coke while we waited for everyone to get their first drinks, then later I had a couple Shark Bites, which were delicious and very fun, each with a gummy shark speared on a toothpick on top. I also had chicken tenders and tots. The chicken tenders were substantial, all breast meat, and were quite tasty. The tots were crispy and flavorful. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food, too. The patio was large, and with ample seating. They also brought out a bunch of glasses and carafes of ice water, and small plates in case we wanted to share food. In short, they went above and beyond in accommodating us, especially given how short-staffed they were on what for them would otherwise be a very quiet Sunday night. I really can't say enough good things about them and how much we appreciated them salvaging our gathering that night! It's the second time we booked a VIP table here for a birthday, and both times were disappointing. We paid twice for the $500 package, which is supposed to include two bottles and a champagne for birthdays ; but we never received the champagne . We also asked several times for more soft drinks and never got any. On top of that, they advertise the package as $500, but after taxes it comes to about $650, and with tips it ends up around $750. For that price, the service and the quality of the bottles are really not worth it. I don't recommend it ; very poor service and not a good value for the money. read more

This was my first stop upon arriving in Cleveland. It's the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat or something to drink before a football game, as it is close to the stadium. There was a DJ and the vibe was so fun. Service was quick considering we went on a game day and it was busy. I ordered a local beer and got the grilled Chick Fil A sandwich with sweet potato fries. Today I came into Barley House for happy hour around 4pm and I will say it's a great bar/ restaurant. It is right near the Browns stadium. The food and atmosphere were great! I had the chicken club sandwich, and the bread was buttery and soft, and the chicken was very juicy. I was surprised that there were not many patrons in, but the bartender Abby said they turn into a night club after 10PM! I will definitely be back, and I'm thrilled I found this hidden gem. read more

I had a negative experience at this establishment. My friends and I were permitted to enter the club and immediately thrown out because one of us had an ice cream. Bouncers screamed "go learn some English." I called the club multiple times to share my experience, but the manager refused to talk to me. It is disturbing that this behavior is permitted at a venue in a culturally diverse city. If you speak with an accent, I do not recommend visiting this venue, you will feel unwelcome here. This place is a staple of the warehouse district. We stopped in for a drink since the hockey game was postponed. If live DJ's, loud music, and college aged people that are drinking themselves to oblivion are your thing, this place is right up your alley. Won't be coming to this place ever again. I Was having a great time until I wasn't . Left the bar around 12:55am to go and get something from my car. I come back 10 minutes later to be denied entry back in because I'm wearing athletic wear (dress pants and a hoodie ) which is exactly what I wearing before. Upon my arrival, it was promptly brought to my attention that every bar and restaurant would be closed indefinitely at 9pm. I figured I'd stroll to Barley House for one last romp with a normalcy. I wasn't surprised how good the food was. My buddy I was there with told me I'd be impressed, and the Thai Peanut Rice Bowl and Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers I got as an appetizer we're both very impressive. I wasn't surprised how pretty the bartenders were, having same buddy describe them to me beforehand. I couldn't of cared any less- I'm a firm believer that dolled-up, pretty barmaids do nothing more than make dummies drool and screw over guys like me that didn't care for them 15 years ago and don't take the bait. And still, this place was different. The staff here was super friendly, and not at all in a fake, just hoping to get a better tip from you kind of friendly. Before the premature closing time, two of the workers here we had befriended had ideas of other places to hang out at and invited us to come with them. Most of all, I was impressed at the positivity and patience they had demonstrated, facing an indefinite closure and loss of wages at the hands of the dreaded Wuhan Flu pandemic. I'm pretty stingy with my business, especially to chain restaurants, but I can't imagine another work trip to Cleveland without stopping by Barley House again, and neither should you. I've never ordered from Barley House before. I gave them a big opportunity seeing as how this particular meal is gonna be the last thing I chew for a few months. I'm having the rest of my teeth pulled tomorrow, and dentures installed. You know, because it seems like the thing to do... but I digress, I ordered the corn beef pizza, it was very unique, I actually really liked it corn beef, thousand Island pickle slices shredded sweet cabbage, the door was light and airy. Very different taste but just what I was after unique. I also ordered the bang bang shrimp, which is a crispy coated shrimp in a super delicious sauce, the sauce is so good I just wanna inject it into my body. But I have issues. Delicious. Delicious. Delicious Since this is my last meal I also ordered the fish tacos. Portion was good, the sauce on the fish tacos is delicious more of the sweet cabbage on those gives it some extra crunch, high-quality pub food. The thing I might be most pleased with is they were actually advertising for yelp, challenging one to go there and write a review on their experience. We were looking for a sports bar close to the waterfront/Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and our Uber driver suggested this place because of their TVs and burgers. I saw it on yelp, but only had 3 stars so I was looking elsewhere. Glad we took our drivers advice... it was excellent. Lunchtime, got a booth, had drinks, nice selection of wine for a sports bar, and lots of tvs! This is the perfect place to go if you want to hang and drink beer with your buddies. Good music, older style bar, opening seating and airy. There are 2 tables that have kegs taps attached at the table. Plenty of tvs to watch sporting events. Now for the food, it was ok and defiantly not my top choice. We were able to host a really great fundraiser here on a weekend night. We sold wristbands at the door for $25 and people could get unlimited draft beer, well drinks, house wine, and a selection of 3 appetizers for a 2 hour time period. We were able to keep half of the ticket price for our charity, and the staff were nice enough to also donate their tip to charity! Thank you!!!! They had a good selection of draft beers, with rotating selections from different breweries. I was also surprised at how good their appetizers were. The pizza has a super crispy bottom of the crust, which I really enjoyed. Chicken tenders were also crispy and moist. Didn't really like the cheese pretzel balls, but that's how I expected all the food to be, so I was definitely pleasantly surprised! Overall, barley house did a great job at handling our fundraiser. I would definitely recommend them for that! After the fundraiser was over, it did start to get super crowded, and turned into a bit of dancing (well, they had a DJ, but not many people were actually dancing), it was hard to get a drink since there were so many people. Overall, I'd give their fundraiser event 4 stars, but the rest of the night 2 stars. Not really someplace I'd recommend, but I would definitely have no hesitations about tagging along if my friends wanted to go! read more

Half an hour after we sat down, bouncer told us we have to move because an MBA player wants to sit where we were sitting so they moved us to a small table that barely fits 4 people. That corner was so crowded, shoulder to shoulder and bunch of people walking back and forth. I had a great time here on a Saturday night. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no cover charge and we were there just before 11 pm. The crowd was diverse in age & ethnicity, and the DJ played some great music. I didn't try the food, but the drinks were pretty good and easonably priced. I would suggest that if you're 30 and up to get there early because after midnight the crowd seemed to get younger and younger. It also became very crowded. Seating is very limited as well with no bar seats. After reading a few reviews about rudeness, I can see how that can be the case at this establishment. First upon entering there were three guys in front of us who were turned away, I'm not sure why but we were able to get in without even having an ID check. As they were closing security went around and were very rude in tone and pushing you out of the door. You could barely gather your belongings! They were not busy at all, which concerned us at first but then we realized why. The service was horrible. We waited almost 30-40 minutes to get our check after asking multiple different staff members who all acted completely clueless. I've never personally had a problem at Barley House, but I can see all the hate for it. It's a place to see and be seen, but it's also a place that attracts the attention seekers and drama-starters. I can't say that the experience for Barley House is the same across the board for everyone - Yelper reviews seem to confirm that. I typically go earlier in the night, between the dinner-goers and when the rowdy ones show up. I'm a craft beer kind of gal. The late nighters are more of a cash tip in exchange for a shot of grey goose poured directly into your mouth from a scantily dressed bartender on the counter crowd. (I am not kidding.) There's been one or two professional Cleveland athlete sightings here, if that gives you any idea of where the drink prices are at. Barley House isn't my scene, but I've never had a bad experience here. It's definitely THE place for the early twenties Instagram loving millennial that I cannot emulate. I have been to the Barley House in Akron and really loved it. The food and service was great and I have been there for lunch and late night. However, the Cleveland location has disappointed me quite a bit with the service. First we were seated outside on the patio, which was fine with me, but at one of the lounge seat arrangements where the table was maybe 2-3 feet from the ground. So it was very uncomfortable to eat. The service was very slow and hardly paid any attention to our table. And when she was there she didn't seem like she cared that much. I understand if you're busy, but at least apologize for the lack of service. Other than the service and the uncomfortable seating, the food was really good and the décor and atmosphere was nice.
