Barnaby's is a fun, friendly place to eat with great food. The decor is fun with painted dogs on the walls and ceilings, which matches with their dog friendly patio policy. Came here right before closing and they were very accommodating to us. We ordered only the flat iron steak with steamed spinach and tuna salad sandwich with homemade potato chips. Both were excellent imo. Steak was perfectly cooked and there was only one bite where I noticed the steak had a bit too much salt, otherwise I couldn't have asked for a more perfectly cooked flat iron. The restaurant interior and menu is very inviting and just begs you to order more, to try out several items, but that will have to be for next time. I didn't see a patio for the dogs here at this location, compared to the Shepherd one, and the actual seating space seems pretty small. read more

What can I say, other than I just love this place. The food is always fresh, they give you the option of regular or waffle fries (Waffle fries please!). They serve their cokes in the 20 oz bottle with at least one free refill ( depends on who your server is) & they have Coke Zero. Their chocolate chip cookies (ask for it heated) are amazing! Their other desserts are pretty delicious too. My favorites are the Lebanese chicken Fattoush salad, the guacamole burger, and the pork chop. Their portions are huge, so if you do get a salad know that there is a smaller size. The one weird thing is there is a 6 ft nutcracker in the men's bathroom. The wait can be long during prime time and the waiting area is not the biggest. If it is raining, be aware the one lot in the back gets flooded and so does the dirt lot next to it. read more

Hey so most of the food is great, pork chops especially, but they don't wash the mushrooms at all So I wouldn't recommend any salads, because if they don't wash dirt off mushrooms what else are they not washing? Mushrooms literally grow in manure, and they don't wash them it's gross yuck Anyway, the lemonade is great. French fries as well, the cheese and spinach lasagna was 'very good and filling as well as delicious ' according to mom. Flat iron steak was great too. We eat at Barnaby's WG once or twice a week and generally have no issues, that is, unless we are dealing with HOLLY. Seems like our total check amount always comes up as a surprise when we deal with Holly. For example, the other night I picked up an avocado cheeseburger and substituted my fries for a salad. Holly decided to up charge me $4 for that substitution, citing the price of the side salad on the appetizer menu. That brings the total cost for the burger and salad to $18.00!!! I couldn't help but wonder how that even makes sense as the salad on the appetizer menu doesn't cost $4.00 more than the fries on the appetizer menu. On top of that, my burger was RAW. I tried to speak with Holly about the ticket price but as per usual, her condescending and rude attitude was that: 1) I thought you understood without me telling you it would cost you $4.00 for this substitution (so it's your fault customer); 2) It's because of the price of the small salad on the appetizer menu. Other than dealing with Holly we enjoy our local Barnaby's and generally have no issues. read more

Our go too spot for comfort food and the portions are huge perfect for hubby and I because we are into sharing plates and the food never disappoints.our favs here are the Asian wings and burgers! Tonight's order we tried the apricot mustard wings. These were pretty good, loved the apricot mustard sauce and the wings are a dry rub had tons of flavor. Order if your a huge mustard fan. If you prefer sweet then stick to the Asian spicy Wings. We also ordered the Guacamole cheese burger with the sweet potato fries. IMO they have some of the best sweet potato fries around. read more

So I have had the breakfast (Sunday brunch) and was amazingly impressed. But most recently I had the guacamole burger!!!! Oh my gosh it was so amazing. If you are a over of guacamole it is heaven because they do not skimp on it. Further you can tell its fresh. I tend to like my guacamole a little zestier but this was still great! Not to chunky and very fresh. I also had the sweet potato fries which were well worth the upcharge! They are delicious. I will be going back here again soon. I still reiterate my early one negative from a previous review is that I really wish they had bust boys! Wait staff is everywhere trying to serve and bust tables at the same time. It's a pretty solid choice for burgers when you are craving them. They have quite a selection for burgers, and most of the options are on the healthier side rather than heart clogging. They don't pile on the sauces, and they keep the taste pretty simple with just the natural flavoring of the ingredients. The Spinach and Feta burger ($10.95) I got was a good example of that. There were no sauces, just raw baby spinach, crumbled feta, and burger patty. You could get a good taste of the burger patty that was pretty lean yet juicy, so you don't end up with a plate of grease. I think the use of fresh ingredients really accentuated the simplicity of the burger, or vice versa. A major bonus was that they were willing to let me swap out the side of fries for a variety of choices. I picked broccoli, thinking I would just get a small dish of florets. Instead I got a whole crown, with the stems and all, just simply steamed - awesome! I have also had the Free Range Grass-fed Buffalo burger ($11.95). It was just a simple burger but with the buffalo patty instead - very lean and flavorful. Again, instead of the fries, I was able to swap them out for sweet potato fries. The waiter gave us his special bull's eye sauce - barbecue sauce with honey mustard. Good call, don't know why I never thought of it! I would compare their burgers more to the level and style of the Hobbit Café rather than Lankford or Hubcap. They both serve simple fresh burgers of pretty large sizes. As good as it is I just don't find myself craving their burgers often though. I have been there a few times, and I feel as if I have already tried almost everything I would want from the menu. Perhaps when I crave a burger, I also crave the grease and beef juice that go along with it... Barnaby's is definitely a solid 3.5 stars though, and a good place to go without feeling guilty, and it's got something for everyone. Side note: Compared to the Fairview location, the location on W Gray is a lot more spacious on the inside so your chairs don't knock against the people behind you. They also have a lot more parking both in the front and back of the restaurant as well as along the street, so you don't have to keep circling around. It does kind of feel more commercialized and loses a bit of that neighborhood joint feel from the Fairview location though. read more

My Order (To-go): Dr. Gale's Meatloaf (meal) with a strawberry lemonade. I didn't have the opportunity to sit and dine at Barnaby's to observe/experience their level of service. Instead, I called my order in to-go. It was ready on time, although the woman/hostess taking my payment was not very attentive during the transaction. But, the food was okay. I received a very hefty portion.This meatloaf was just average. It was sort of soft/mushy, and I prefer more of a regular ground beef texture. It's also covered in stewed tomatoes, and I just prefer tomato sauce. The mashed potatoes were good and the asparagus was huge, fresh and delicious. My strawberry lemonade was very good and fresh. I will visit Barnaby's again, but I won't be getting meatloaf. Next time, I'll try and sit to have a full course meal. Seems like a great place to get some home-style meals. read more

Barnaby's is a favorite of mine. The servers are usually friendly, and I like the colorful Barnaby's on the ceiling. Every single item we've ordered has been good, and it comes in huge portions. We always have leftovers, which makes the food a great value. I used to order the turkey with cranberry mayo every time. It's such a great sandwich, and they would let me switch out the fries for any other side. I also really like the cobb salad, which comes with gigantic portions of all the toppings. My latest favorite is a veggie burger with guac, cheese and onion. They let you swap out a veggie patty or boca burger for any of their specialty burgers - and give you two veggie burgers instead of just one. Parking can sometimes be an issue here, but they have a lot in front and in back, and there is plenty of street parking in the area. read more

I haven't yet tried all the exotic ones but have never been disappointed with any of my choice. When I want to eat healthy, I go for sausalito chicken salad. Hmm, it is very flavorful yet satisfying. They "use humanely raised chicken and beef. All natural, vegetarian fed, no antibiotics, or added growth hormone." I think that it shows in the taste. I love this place. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite breakfast places in the Heights! I had the chicken fried steak, eggs, and potatoes. The batter they use is thinner, and super crispy. Visiting Houston for the first time, I sought places popular with the locals. A friend who lives in the Montrose area brought me here for lunch; it's one of his faves. What a delightful spot! Perhaps because the staff recognized my friend as a regular, they treated us royally. The pesto chicken salad sandwich with artichoke hearts was a savory mixture piled high on whole wheat bread with lettuce and a slice of red onion. But its consistency was too spread-like; I wish it contained bigger chunks of meat and artichoke. Comparing Barnaby's to its kind, the food here is very good Barnaby's but not exactly the best place for brunch. They don't offer pancakes, or waffles, or anything of that sort. They specialize on burgers, sandwiches, and salads. After jumping from place to place trying to find where to eat, Barnaby's was able to accommodate us immediately. We were a group of 6. FOOD As I said, they specialize in burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The food is very good for what it is. I need to admit my expectations where not too high, but the food here definitely exceeded them. Their sweet potato fries are incredible. The perfect crunchy, and the seasoning was on point. They have a picture menu which is AWESOME! It makes the choosing what to eat a lot easier. SERVICE The service is average. Not bad, but not great. I'd say it is just the typical service as any other diner. PARKING They have a parking lot. So it should be fairly easy to get a spot. The thing about Barnaby's is that it is absolutely consistent in the quality of the food. It's all comfort food. Why would you change anything? We went to Barnaby's on a weekday and it was pretty nice. They have a decent happy hour with a handful of beers for $2 and other drinks for a little more. We tried the waffle fries with blue cheese and it was amazing!! Usually I think blue cheese is too pungent and strong, but their sauce was mild and really creamy. Plus they topped it off with generous chunks, yes chunks, not itty bitty bits, of bacon! YUM!! This is the dish I'll order every time I go there. Barnaby's menu includes salads, cold/hot sandwiches, burgers, and among other protein dishes. I ordered a cold turkey sandwich with cranberry mayo, which seemed pricey at $8.50 for a basic sandwich on wheat with a bag of chips, but the sandwich was loaded with turkey and the mayo was sweet and delicious. Good service, huge portions, lots of flavor, decent price. I got the guacamole and cheese burger, cooked medium, and it was excellent, as were the sweet potato fries that I substituted in. It lost a star only because of how loud it was... my friends and I could barely hear each other. This place needs some noise dampening. Or you can try getting a table to the left across from the kitchen, which seemed way less noisy when I walked through to the restroom. Overall, great place and I will go back. read more

Love this place. They have quite a bit of food options. I stick mostly to the burgers which are always cooked perfectly, juicy. Portions are big and well worth the price, if you order a burger you get a huge portion of delicious fries. Service is always friendly and pretty attentive. Ordered take out tonight from Barnaby's and was extremely disappointed. We ordered the chicken tostados, falafel burger, guacamole. The tostados were soggy and the chicken was extremely dry. The falafel burger was dry. I get that tostados wouldn't stay crunchy if not fresh so why don't they pick them separately esp in times like these when most people order take out. Guacamole was just ok nothing spectacular but I can't complain about that. It was fresh. Definitely will not eat here again. read more

I came here on my lunch break one day with my friend and the place was PACKED. The parking lot looked like a construction site And a small construction site at that. however, when I walked inside, I was seated immediately with a paper menu that can be used as a place mat as well! There is so much to choose from. I went with the waffle fries with blue cheese fondue and the chicken fattoush salad. The price is a bit much, but the portion is HUGE. I did not even finish my salad and had to take half of it home with me. They did put a bit too much blue cheese fondue on the fries and it was way too salty for my taste. The chicken on the fattoush salad was a bit dry but I should have expected as much. The decor inside was very roomy, but very dark. The seating was comfortable and it was not as cramped as I would have thought. The service was phenomenal for a full house. Granted the waiters were not the greatest when it came to refilling cups, but I imagine I would not be either if I was waiting ten other tables. UNSAFE! Do not go here unless you take an uber. In broad light my car was broken into with several items stolen including my laptop. When I reported it to the staff I was told that it happens 4-5 times a week AND THEY DO NOTHING TO PREVENT IT. The owner refuses to install cameras or provide security staff costing their customers thousands of dollars on a weekly basis. This irresponsible, negligence and complete lack of concern almost certainly impacts other parts of the business. I now wonder if they have the same lack of concern about food safety. Formerly a regular customer. I suggest going to a different location, as my car and the one along side were both broken into. No cameras and poor lighting in the parking lot allows for this type of thing to be a regular occurrence from what I've been told.
