Found this spot near our hotel with good food options and with another bar full and couldn't accommodate us. I made reservations here. Super chill spot to watch the soccer games. We watched the Argentina vs Cape Verde game here at a high top table in the bar area. This place had a chill World Cup vibes if you don't want a loud crowd like the previous bar we were at. We enjoyed our beers. With their sunset happy hour appz. So yummy and our waiter was great! Super friendly staff. Super accommodating. And the biscuits are delicious! With a planned night of drinking in front of us we ordered the cheeseburger eggrolls! Oh wow. So so good. Perfect thing to split. We also split the truffle fries! Another wow! Best filet mignon I've had in awhile. The service here at Federal downtown is always great. We sat at the bar and ordered sunset happy hour strawberry lemon drops. They were delicious. Back to the steak. I am very particular about my filets I prefer it medium Pittsburgh style. The chef here got it perfectly! It was so tender on the inside and crispy one outside, I devoured it. For sides I ordered truffle mash potato and Mac & cheese. I couldn't find a truffle in my mash tasted very regular. Besides that I enjoyed my meal. Federal American Grill ended up being the PERFECT pivot for our night. We sat at the bar and were greeted immediately--service was on point from start to finish (shoutout to Freddie!). The real win here is social hour. $10 appetizers that are normally closer to $18? Say less. We ordered a few things to share: Cheeseburger egg rolls (slightly overcooked on the outside, but still good flavor) Cheeseburger sliders (simple, but my partner enjoyed them) Meatballs over mashed potatoes (THIS was a surprise--it's basically a full meal and very good) Bang bang shrimp (probably my favorite--great flavor and presentation) Drinks were also well done and consistent. This place was amazing! I forgot to take a picture of the appetizers, we got the Kung Pao Calamari and Spinach dip. Both were delicious. The calamari was very fresh and the homemade dipping sauce was off the chart. The Spinach dip was creamy and always our favorite. We were in Houston for the Astros game and the town was filled with visitors from all over for the FIFA World Cup games. The atmosphere was beautiful and elegant but at the same so welcoming and friendly. The service was fantastic. I ate the Truffle Stuffed Chicken and it made my mouth water if a mouthgasum was a thing! My husband got the meatloaf, I of course had a few bites. It was a little spicy but still scrumptious. Located in downtown, this is a newer branch of the chain that has multiple locations in the city. This is a downtown power lunch spot and it's fairly busy during lunch service. The interior almost looked like a mix of a sports bar but with sit down service. The food came out extremely slow, which was very annoying especially if you don't have all day to grab lunch. The food quality was okay; it's a step above fast food but not quite a finer dining level. The apps consisted of the fried shrimp and the ribs; both were alright (3.5/5). The smoked pork belly was so chewy that it was inedible (1/5). I got the snapper with fries for my main; the fish was fairly overcooked and everything else on the plate as expected. Our main dishes took over 45 minutes to get brought out, it was fairly awkward in terms of how long it took. Um my friends and I visited this place on a Wednesday and let me tell you. The staff in there were fighting for their lives. To start the place was a mess. Service was slow andddd the food was not good. Who would have thought that a Wednesday night would provide slow service. Apparently a conference was happening near by so they were not prepare allegedly. But yeah....I had ordered a ceasar salad ot wasn't great but alas I was hungry. I also ordered calamari which was generally not good at all. It was tart and soggy. They had brought over biscuits and I liked those the most out of everything and they were included. I met some friends before A Rockets game. We had a couple of quick drinks and ordered off of their happy hour menu. Everything was delicious. The sticky ribs and bang bang shrimp are fantastic. Also, don't skip the oysters Rockefeller. The bar area is spacious and very inviting. Our server was quick to get a drink order. We had to press a couple times to get our food order, put in and to pay our bill so that we can get to the game. I don't think the server was aware that we were in as much of a hurry as we were even though they knew we were going to the game. But we made it in time and only missed tip off by a few minutes. We came with a group of ten coworkers after a round at Puttshack. It was around 5:30 PM and was pretty dead. The service was good, but the food was mediocre. The ribeye wasn't high quality steak. It was a bit on the tough side. I'm not expecting Wagyu , but just a better grade of beef for the price. It's conveniently located near Daikon Park and walking distance from the Puttshack. I've been to other Federal Grill locations and they're all the same. It's not one of my top choices, but it was nice to take the team here to enjoy drinks and the company. read more

The decor was simple and elegant giving the above average whiskey bar feel. Our server was also great. She ensured they'd we had everything they that we needed. We decided to give this place a try while passing through Houston and it did not disappoint. Service was excellent. Food came out fast, waitress was attentive, and everything was amazing overall. We started with the fried green tomatoes which was topped with crab and had a delicious sauce. For lunch I had the lemon salmon bowl & my husband had the cheeseburger egg rolls. This is the best experience I've had in a long time in a restaurant. We were going to a show with the Toyota Center and walked around and found this jewel. It was happy hour where you could get martinis for six dollars and drinks for seven dollars. I had a great list of appetizers for 10 bucks. We tried the raspberry martini, the strawberry martini, a Cobb salad,short ribs, and meatballs. Customer service is at 10 of 10 . If you're waiter is busy one of the management will take your order as well. They use technology to get the orders in fast and they get the food and drinks to you in a blink of an eye . The shortribs we're sweet and tangy with an Asian influence very good. The meatballs were on top of mashed potatoes, and although I don't care for Swedish meatballs that much I recognize that they were tender, juicy and delicious. My favorite was the Cobb salad, which I split with my partner and it was plenty big. The champagne vinaigrette was amazing with the blue cheese. I can't wait to come back to this location. I have been to another location before a while back, but not this location, it has great reviews. We had made a resy, but upon arrival really did not need one. The place has lots of seating, and looked only 25% full at the time. Too bad for them on a Friday night, where ate the people? We were told the place is a scratch kitchen restaurant, all the food is house made. Service - was great. Rayna was sweet, and friendly and tried to stay on top of everything so the effort was there for me. She even provided a complimentary dessert for our first time in, which is why I gave 4 stars. And a manager stopped by to check on us, which I appreciated. Food- I was not too hungry, so I ordered the tomatoe basil soup, and it was wonderful. Perfect for the cold night out. The burger bowl salad looked great that my friend got. The Philly sandwich my other friend had looked like like too much bread versus meat to me. But I will let her review and give her own opinion, as I did not taste it. Drinks- mine was lackluster. I ordered the Happily Ever After, and it was not great, kinda tasted liked a watered down spiked Shirly Temple, would not recommend it. My friend got the espresso tini, and later found out its batched cocktail not fresh made, as it came to the table only minutes after being ordered. Overall the service won me over. First and foremost, our server, Lawrence, was terrific- so kind and attentive. And everything we ate was amazing! Started with the cheeseburger egg rolls- that freakin sauce was delicious! I had the Sea-bass with creamed spinach- just absolutely perfect. My husband had the "four-get about it" grilled cheese with tomato soup and he really enjoyed it. Finished dinner with the butter cake...again, so good! I didn't even think about taking pictures, but once we were half-way through dessert I felt the need to review this place. My wife and I celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary here this past Friday. I did give advanced notification that we were celebrating our anniversary and they had a really nice table waiting for us. The service was top notch as was the food. The bang bang shrimp is delicious. I had the ribeye which was a nice size and good flavor and sear to it. My wife had the scallops and she really enjoyed them. They were so big, she had to share. This Cesar Salad dressing was missing so many ingredients that it was unworthy of the name. We had the Mother's Day prefix at Federal Grill, and for $45 a person it was mostly worth it. There were numerous selections for first and second course, which I appreciated. The mini crab cake most of us ordered was definitely mini, and could have been more flavorful and served hotter. The shrimp cocktail was three shrimp. I'd think all the appetizers were mini, but my wife's parfait came in a huge bowl she didn't even finish. My dad and I were divided on the shrimp and grits. I thought the Thai chili based sauce made for a unique take on a tasty dish, but it wasn't his favorite. The breakfast plate seemed to go for quantity rather than quality to make it worthwhile, with heaps of potatoes and eggs with a single slice of French Toast. And while the butter cake got mixed reviews among us (I liked it), it was odd not to have choices for dessert. On average across five people, the food was okay. Portions were just all over the place. Service was fantastic though. I'd be curious about trying FG for happy hour, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go there. A weird nitpick, but ambiance is everything, especially on Mother's Day: the music choice was so off for such a classy vibe. It was like throwback Bro Rock playlist...Sublime, Third Eye Blind, that kind of thing. I don't think I heard a single woman on that whole playlist. I get it was an Astro's game that morning, but there were far more people in their Sunday finest with their moms than in jerseys. Some nice jazz or an acoustic cover playlist could have done a lot to set a better mood. read more

I went in for an early dinner. The bar area was closed for a private function (weird) and being a bit windy outside I thought inside would be better. The host wanted to seat me at a table for two which was basically adding me to a table of four men already there. I asked if I could go outside instead of sitting with strangers. Her look was incredulous, as if I just asked for something impossible. After a very visible eye roll I was seated outside on the patio, which was pretty much empty. About ten minutes passed before I was tended to with a menu and a glass of water. I ordered a drink, which took at least another ten minutes to arrive. When it did I ordered a wedge salad app, and then a Reuben sandwich. The salad was great with huge chunks of bleu cheese, but the sandwich was mediocre at best. My biggest beef is the service. Had an impromptu lunch date with my mom! We picked this restaurant to try out for Restaurant Weeks as it was conveniently located downtown. Great place to grab a bite if you've been dismissed from jury duty! I've been to Federal American Grill many times but not this location. The downtown location is HUGE! Lots of seating and even some private room options. Seems like a great spot for a holiday party. We parked on the street and used the meter. We were warmly greeted and Jonathan was our server! He was kind, professional, and provided amazing service. We utilized the restaurant week menu and I had the tuna poke and the freedom burger. Both were delicious but the burger was the standout for me! Also, the freedom burger donates a dollar to support our veterans--absolutely love that! Needed a venue for business lunch in downtown and Federal American Grill accommodated our needs quite nicely. We had 15 in our group and they had a glass room towards the back of the restaurant with a huge table. The space I'd say could hold around 20 ppl comfortably. The room also had a tv so if you needed to present something I'd say you would be able to. Service was great and attentive, drinks never reached the bottom before refillings. With large group and shareables they made platters for the items.
