There were 2 servers that were assisting with the table. Both very nice and got our orders correct. I had to split the bill in a weird way and they followed instructions well. The restaurant is always nice and clean including the restroom. The restaurant has a lunch option for 2 items for $25. What a steal! I got the wedge salad because I love the smothered blue cheese dressing. I got the mahi mahi tacos. Tacos were a good lighter choice. I didn't realize that it came with fries. Food: all the food had great flavor except the jalapeño redfish and there was a foreign object in my food... -caesar salad: very nice, not too much dressing, fresh lettuce -parmesan pork tenderloin: great flavor and portion, crust was nice, sauce on it was good as well -watermelon salad: nice as well, was not expecting the bed of lettuce underneath but it wasn't bad, good basil flavor to compliment the salad -jalapeño redfish: cooked slightly hard (it's already a meaty fish, so this made some bites on the chewy/tough side); same sauce as the tenderloin -smoke bacon mac and cheese: delish! no notes lol -garlic knots: the chimichurri was spicy, but tasty, did not need the marinara at all (the two flavors don't go together well for me) -snickers pie: tasted like a snickers bar and a reese's cup mixed together; I didn't love it, but my friend did. Service: not great, we had a manager start off as our server but she was awkward in a "not socially aware" way (ex. she kept saying our server had to use the bathroom, even when our server came to the the table and looked so embarrassed; she also told me my non-alcoholic drink order would not taste good without knowing it's what I drink at home), rushed us (every time she said she would give us a moment she'd come RIGHT back to the table within seconds) Our actual server started off rocky as well, perhaps wasn't having a good day and she was visibly annoyed with the manager. She was short and blank with us until she realized we're very nice lol and by the end, her tone and energy had completely shifted for the better. The foreign object: about 2/3 of the way through the meal, I bit into a small piece of blue plastic. Did not know if it was in the fish or the mac and cheese, but I was devastated because I was almost finished eating but couldn't due to paranoia. Still a big fan of Jonathan's The Rub (East End). This is our go-to spot for dinner in the neighborhood (that's not Tex-Mex, Vietnamese, Thai, or Italian). Think JT's is the only of it's kind in the area (aside from City Cellar). I normally get the wedge or greek salad or some sort of fish. We did try the crab cakes this time, and DO NOT recommend. They are more like hush puppies or fritters... very cornmeal (or bread?) heavy and hardly any crab to be called a "crab cake." I think another review mentioned that, and even our server told us (after the fact) that patrons don't like their crab cakes. I've been gluten-free for six months and kinda bummed I broke my streak on this dish. Thankfully they took it off our bill (at $44 for four, and we couldn't even finish one.) read more

Stopped in on a Thursday for steak night and sat at the bar. 4.5 stars, edging down to 4. Steak night itself is a really good deal, and everything we had delivered. The steak was cooked perfectly. It comes sliced with a sauce that's sort of like a nicer version of Heinz 57 -- very good. The smashed potatoes were better than you'd expect, especially if you can get a side of the onion ring sauce to put on them; it sets them off really nicely. The green beans were also very good. We added a small order of onion rings as an extra side, and they were some of the best i have had in a while. They came with some kind of ranch-type sauce that was absolutely phenomenal. I ended up dipping everything in it -- the steak, the potatoes, all of it. I also had their "steak night" old fashioned, which was a solid drink. The steak night plate is a great value. My wife and I actually split it -- it's a larger portion than you'd think, and you can add on shrimp if you want a little more. side note: The croutons on the Caesar salad deserve a mention of their own some of the best I've ever had. I don't know what they do to them, but they're exceptional. As for the spot itself: super nice location, very clean. The bar has a nice feel, with large windows where you can sit and look out to the street. All the food we had was top notch -- I'd give it a full five stars for taste and value. The one thing that knocks it down a little is the service. We sat at the bar, and there were two bartenders. It wasn't especially busy, but it still took a while to get drinks. The bigger hang-up was that I asked two or three small questions about the menu and the bartenders had no idea it was a lot of "I don't know" or "let me check on that," and then they never really got back to me. The patio visit was probably my better visit as the waitress was accommodating. This particular visit started off on the down slope. There were a lot of people behind the bar doing nothing but chatting and not serving. One young lady continued to look at us while she ran her mouth and polished the drink ware. Finally after 20 min of sitting there, my guest grabbed one of the bar tenders and asked for assistance and then we began rolling. The food has always been "ok". This time we ordered the "Jessie's Salad" and the "Redfish" with a side of steamed Pork dumplings. The salad is huge and filling, the better of the three dishes. The Redfish was overcooked and dry. It also didn't taste like it was fresh fish. The dumplings were decent, nothing to wow you..... I got the classic Gibson and it was also just "ok". The balance was a little off. Got treated to a surprise dinner and Jonathan's The Rub won me over. Ambiance: 5/5 Reservations were made so that we didn't have any issues with seating. This was a Thursday evening and the parking area is shared with other businesses, but fortunately there was no issue in parking. They have an outdoor patio area to dine at but we were seated inside. The place is nice and clean and tables are spaced well enough to allow room to move about. I've been here a few times and the food and service is usually pretty good. This last visit was on their Thursday steak night. Place was packed with a 45 min wait time for a table. I decided to sit at the bar instead of waiting. The Thursday night steak special goes for $35 and you get a small salad, 14oz New York strip, potatoes, and green beans. The presentation is amazing! The steak was cook to order and the J1 sauce complements it very well. The potatoes are cooked perfectly and seasoned very generously. The greens beans came off a little bland and the salad was just a regular salad. You definitely get a great amount of food for the price. The service was a bit slow, especially for sitting at the bar. It took several minutes before the bartender acknowledged me and took my order. Took even longer to get my drink. Then we ordered the main entrees, I ordered the Jessie Salad and my friend got the Ribeye, my salad was ok, nothing extraordinary, but the ribeye was definitely not good, not tender at all, rubbery-hard meat. I will say that the Brussels sprouts are good and the tuna is good as well. And for dessert tres leches for the bday boy, we all tried it and it was good. Every dish I have had has been fantastic, and they have a solid variety of light bites all the way up fancy steaks and salads. You can get whatever you're looking for here. I think so far the ribeye and mashed potatoes has been my favorite meal, but I've also tried dumplings, cajun pasta, burgers, salads, and seafood and have enjoyed each meal. The service was good but nobody went over the specials with me like they did a group of ladies who came in after me. My bartender was nice, made small talk with me about music. We both ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. Sheri's was good, but mine was tough and gristly. The gravy tasted fine, although there wasn't much of it on the plate to begin with. The Sweet Chili Shrimp appetizer was the highlight of the meal and easily the best thing we ordered. I also tried the Soup de Julio. The flavor was excellent, but the bowl was mostly rice with very little else in it. Our friends ordered a salad and a burger, and both seemed pleased with their meals. I do want to give credit where it's due. Our waitress, **Sheila**, was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service throughout the meal. She was not responsible for what happened next. The total bill for our table was **over $200 including tip**. After spending that kind of money, we asked for a little extra gravy to take home with leftover chicken fried steak because the original serving was light. We weren't asking for a bowl--just a small ramekin. We were told there would be a **$2 charge plus tax**. That may not sound like much, but after spending more than $200, charging a customer extra for a tiny container of gravy felt incredibly petty. It's not the amount of money; it's the message it sends. Good restaurants build loyalty through hospitality, and this felt more like nickel-and-diming customers. The food ranged from average to good, Sheila's service was excellent, but the decision to charge for a small ramekin of gravy overshadowed the entire experience. We ordered the ceviche as our app and it sadly was the least favorite item we ordered. It was extremely spicy even though there were no jalapeños in it. I think they went overboard on the cayenne pepper even though it wasn't necessary. Favorite dish of the night was the Denver roast! It fell apart and with the gravy and mashed potatoes-chefs kiss! I booked a reservation online for a table of four a few days in advance for Father's Day. I told my family to arrive at the restaurant early, as I would be showing up late, to ensure we could secure our table. When I arrived, I was a bit surprised to see that they were still waiting. My family informed me that the staff was still preparing our table as they were already waiting for 20 minutes. I decided to give it about 10 more minutes before walking up to the host and asking to be seated for our reservation. Surprisingly, we were seated immediately. At first, we tried to be understanding, especially since the front half of the restaurant looked packed. But once we walked past the barricade, we noticed the restaurant was practically empty. Oddly, we were seated at a small corner table next to the bathroom and a large party table -- we would've been completely squished! We later realized there were other available tables, and when we asked to move, the staff accommodated our request without issue. Isn't it strange that we were originally seated in such an inconvenient spot? I understand they may have been preparing for a large party in advance, but I found it frustrating that, even with a reservation, walk-in guests were seated before us. (I overheard them asking for a table without mentioning a reservation.) However, there was a mixed review of the dishes. -Baked Brie in honey glazed pastry wrap with fruits and nuts- 9/10. The sweet flaky crust complimented the warm brie perfectly. She said taste was average. -Jalapeños Redfish- 7.5/10 large portion and decent tasting. - Chicken Fried Chicken- 9/10. Perfect cutlet fried lightly over a beautiful garlic mash potatoes topped with a luxurious bacon gravy. I wished there was more gravy though! - Burger with added fresh chopped serranos and fries- 10/10. My husband throughly enjoyed his burger. Baked to perfection, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside, beautiful garlic flavor like a confit not overpowering at all. Marinara was good too. - Grilled Salmon- 8/10 my friend said it was seasoned and cooked well. *Service- 10/10. Our server was attentive, honest, knew details about different menu items, and hospitable overall. *Ambiance- this place is a little eclectic and has an older-modern feel. There were Christmas trees and decorations throughout. The bathroom was adequate but needed cleaning as the night went on. For a Saturday evening they weren't bustling so we were grateful for that as it was easy and efficient to handle our group of 10. *Likelihood of returning- very high. Jonathan's the rub is back at it again with a new location right by the original Ninfas on Navigation. Their Thursday steak night special might be the best in town. $10.00 Martini and $30.00 14 oz ribeye with green beans and potatoes. It was stellar. My one critique would be to order it a lower temp then you actually want (medium rare, order rare). Also a ten dollar cigar is included in the steak night. Perfect night out for the boys. I went to the Bridgeland location and it was great so I selected the East End location for my daughter's birthday. Horrible experience. The appetizers were good but the other food was too salty. However, the biggest disappointment was when, because there was nine people in our party, they cut an entire large birthday cake into nine huge hunking pieces. Stupid. Really cute place, out waitress was prompt and nice. The passion fruit mimosas were ok - the juice tasted like Goya. I got the pork belly eggs Benedict and it was ok - the pork was a bit dry but the potatoes on the side were perfect. My husband ordered the steak and eggs which were good - probably the best dish ordered in our group. The food isn't the best but isn't the worst by no means. It was a pretty ok brunch. Just an excellent restaurant. Food, value, service. Diverse menu. Garlic knots a great starter. The pictured scampi was yummy, so was the mango salmon my hubby had. If you like coconut, their cream pie is better than the other 437 (LOL) I have tasted. Perfect flaky crust! The nutella cheesecake also outstanding. We were there on Father's Day. Had reservations wasn't crowded at all 3ish. Food was good, service OK. They didn't tell us they were charging a 20% holiday fee? It was Father's Day? Also for a table of 5, a 20% automatic gratuity. That I don't mind as we would've done anyway. I have never heard of a holiday fee. read more
