I decided why not just go ahead & purchase it knowing the price was a little over $14 with tax. When I went to pay I was floored when she told me it was basically $19. ALMOST FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS MORE? I came outside thinking that had to be wrong & checked the app & its price & yup. They literally charged $4 more in store for this book. I wanna go back in there & return it & then order it online & come back & get it, but tbh I feel silly since it's my fault I didn't bother to look into how B&N prices stuff - but who would think they wouldn't price match their online stuff or make the brick & mortar prices so wildly more expensive. It's funny because on the way out I looked at Dune & knew it was $9.99 online but it was over $18 here in store. I was like Jesus Christ my memory must be terrible since I've been wrong on price twice now today. September 30, 2018 We got here at 9 am forgot they opened at 10 am. So we returned at 9:50 am go stand in front..now it is 10 am not opened...I go back my car sat there until 10:07am? We go in get our table with drinks at the Starbucks and only 4 orhers there sitting down. The next thing we know the blond who was behind the counter was so dam loud. Now customers were getting pissed as this was fliting with the guy I think he said his name Dominic. This girl questioned him like sge about to purpose and have his babies? The worst part was this guy seemed annoyed at all personal questions. We learned a lot of personal things about both. This was the most offensive talking in a work place I ever heard. We were asking each other wtf are they thinking that they are in a club or they are alone? Then the Manager comes and gets into it with personal crap.....we thought she was going to tell them to shut up and get to work. The best part was that they had just opened and all blondie was thinking about was when she taking her break....lol!!!!! We had about 7 books we were going to buy but since we could hear ourselves read we left. Now Amazon will get our order, due to all the yapping these 2 were doing. Then another worker comes in she had dark hair.... this girl was the only one who was working. I never seen any job tgat allows personal loud talking or visiting while on the clock. I worked in the Government and State employment we did not work with public but we knew not to visit or talk to others working, unless we were on a break in the break rooms. The Manager should be written up for not keeping the area quiet for tge students and customers. I love a good book store visit. My bf and I came on a rainy day and it was perfect. Always so nice and cozy inside.

Nothing but love for books and I'm glad B&N is still around for all my graphic novel and manga needs.

I'm glad they're still is Barnes & Nobles store fronts. Nothing beats the smell of walking into a book store and breathing in the scent of paper. I feel like I just get smarter by walking in. This B&N has a Starbucks but they don't honor any of there star rewards and you can't upload money to your card. So if your in the LB Towne Center, just go to the Starbucks near the food court. They also host a few events like kids story time, reading club in the summer & special interests events like Pokémon training. To see what's going on I would suggest walking in the store and talking with someone the website isn't always up to date on store specific events. read more

Came in to purchase a vinyl showing as available online. I had to ask for help since I couldn't find it myself. After a while the vinyl was finally located but I was told it was open but that I could still purchase it. If it were a book or something else I wouldn't have minded but vinyl can be delicate. They didn't even offer me a discounted option for offering me to purchase an open vinyl. I had to ask myself about a possible discount. After some more waiting I was told they could do twn percent but that's it. They then offered me an option to purchase it online and ship it to the store for me. Money not being the main issue I agreed immediately. Some more waiting later I was told they couldn't purchase it online because their warehouse didn't have it now. To top it all off I can actually purchase the item online but have to pay for shipping it! That's pretty ridiculous since it's a 4th of the vinyl price. To recap: they offer me a tiny discount for an open item (delicate item at that). They offer me an option to ship it to their store. They say they can't do that almost immediately after I agree. I can purchase the item but I have to pay for shipping if I want it because for some reason they'd love to charge me for shipping but they won't ship to their own store. Full disclosure: these days I mainly buy my books from Amazon.com. However, I do still enjoy going to brick and mortar bookstores...takes me back to the days pre e-commerce when stores like Barnes & Noble, Borders, Crown Books, and Waldenbooks (did I just date myself here?) are where the majority of people purchased their books. This particular Barnes & Noble is nestled inside the Long Beach Towne Center. If the parking layout wasn't so heinous (see my LBTC review), I'd probably come here more often. The store is clean and spacious with a nice, albeit small kids' section. There is also a Starbucks Cafe here so you can grab a cup of joe or a snack while you peruse their large selection of books. Staff has always been helpful and friendly when I've needed assistance. My semi-gripe with them is whenever checking out I'm bombarded with the cashiers asking me to sign up for their B & N membership card. I know the employees probably have to ask, but sometimes even after I politely say no they still pressure me. I no likey the hard sell. Sometimes I just want to shout, "go sell your sausage somewhere else!", but I won't because I'm a lady. Tip: be sure to check out their bargain section. I've found some nice finds here for a steal, and there are always good gifts to be found. read more

This place holds special memories for me as I am an avid book lover. From books to puzzles like sudoku, this bookstore has it all. It's laid out nicely, and help is available, if needed. They will reserve a book for you for pick up if it's highly in demand. Also it pays to be a member for their nice discounts. What else can I say? Did an online order for I store pick up on Saturday. On Saturday, I received a message order was ready for pick up, arrived 20 minutes later to find out store was already closed. Ok, not a big deal. When I called, Called I was told next day store would close at four. Next day, I rushed to make it to the store by 4. Arrived at 3:30 to a store where employees leaving. Three employees said store was closed and now it was only open to 3. Could care less I was there for a pick up. Two practically ran to their cars to leave. One of the three had the nerve to tell me they couldn't do anything anyway because they clocked out. One of the three was on their phone waiting outside for their ride. So I've been there two times, no order picked up. No posted hours and rude employees who could care less about customer service. read more

We live in a technology based society where it appears that books are increasingly becoming less important. Scary to think how similar our society is now to "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury (If you haven't read it yet, I suggest you do. Great classic!). With that said, I'm glad that Barnes and Nobles is still around to provide physical copies of books you can go look at and touch before you buy. Unfortunately I did have some complaints about this location. They had some limited copies of the books I wanted and many of these limited copies were bent, torn, and dirty (many books in the Fiction section). The staff here were also very unhelpful. Especially the older blonde woman. She was pretty rude considering that she is working a customer service job. I'm not going to give a specific name, but there is a toxic employee who works here. To be honest, I only buy books here every so often only because it is the only large bookstore near home. But this location does need to work on customer service and update their stock... otherwise I think customers like me will start looking more and more towards online sources like Amazon. They already do offer the same books at cheaper prices and in pristine conditions. read more

I don't understand the nitpicky reviews of this place. I've gone here so many times without any issues. The staff has always been helpful and very friendly. It's a bookstore. If you're coming to buy books everything is going to be ok. If you're coming to camp out at a table or nest in a chair I don't know what to tell you. All the chairs and tables might be taken. Thats no reason to leave a bad review. Giving a 1 star review because they open 5 minutes late or because all of the cafe tables are taken is silly and shows a lack of empathy and understanding. I've always liked Barnes n Noble. I come in and leave with books I never read just because I like the store so much. 5 stars. read more

Everytime I shop at Barnes & Noble I think of the movie You've Got Mail and how the big chain book stores shut down all the independent book stores. I always feel so guilty when I do purchase something here. I happened to stop in this last time as I was waiting for some of the other stores to open while Christmas shopping. I walked around browsing through the various sections and decided on getting some books for my nieces. The kids section is quite large, filled with books and games. I ended up requesting assistance from customer service to find the books my nieces wanted since we didn't know the name or the author. They helped me find them quickly and I sat down and looked through them so I could choose the one I liked. I also grabbed a couple other gifts for some of my clients. On my quest to find Funko Pop! toys, this place has a decent selection. They've got hiding places near the cashier, in the middle of the store by Customer Service, and a wall of them in the music department. If you are a Funko Pop! collector, B&N offers exclusive ones just for them, and if you go to a collectible store, they'll bump the prices for the B&N version because you can only get them there. B&N also puts a good selection of these Pop! in the clearance section. Most of the boxes have seen better days, but if you're looking for a toy to play out of the box, that's a good way to save money. Overall, a good stop for Funko Pop! toys. read more

Horrible service . Buyer beware. Bought a toy item , last one of its kind on the shelf . The box was torn and beat up but didn't think anything of it. Cashier rang us up with no issues. Took it home and realized how beat up the actual item was. Stickers torn off , a lot of dust, buttons not working. Went to take it back and was told we can only get store credit. The manager stated their refund policy clearly stated store credit for damaged items. They sold us a damaged item just fine but refused to take it back. Awful customer service. read more

The whole idea of something being virtual on the internet makes sense. On amazon.com, we can all purchase books and tangibles for much cheaper. But, with most of the competition surviving online, I'm somewhat afraid that bookstores like Barnes & Noble might someday become irrelevant. We saw this happen to Borders and Crown Books in the past. Since, I'm all about the touchable and visual aspect of documents and publications, I like most of the Barnes & Noble locations. I'm all about saving trees, but us moving to a paperless environment with soft copies doesn't always seem so appealing to me. That's why I'll always enjoy a good library or bookstore, even though my visits are far and wide. This one is located at the Long Beach Towne Center and there's not a lot of action going on here. The stores and services here are somewhat limited and less popular, but that might work to your advantage. Less attraction, can mean less congestion. This building is only one story, but they've got FREE Wi-Fi, a sufficient coffee shop that serves Starbucks coffee, and generous hours from 9am to 11pm everyday. The workers here are helpful and they don't give you any attitude from what I recall. My sole issue here are the prices. In this day and age, we're all about saving money and every bit counts. So unless I'm in a dire need to get it real time, I'd rather just order it online for a bargain. They want you to spend time here - reading books, looking at magazines, and taking a break from your busy day. It's an ideal place to shop, since the Barnes & Noble business plan is hell bent on selling more than just reading material - movies, music, toys, games, collectibles, home & gifts, and their ever popular NOOK (their version of the e-book reader). With so many items to engage in, my last visit consumed about an hour at the bookstore - just rummaging around, touching this, examining that. My niece really loves it here. My nephew is at the age when he's starting to read well, so I want to take full advantage of that. Similar, to how my parents grounded me each weekend at the public library when I was younger. Definitely pays off, since I'm the epitome of a model citizen. I nearly fell over my chair laughing when I wrote that last line. read more

While waiting for a friend of mine, I came in here to kill some time. I've come here to study during my undergrad years, so I know it's a nice and chill environment. I ordered a latte form the Starbucks location, and went to peruse books. The Starbucks area has plenty of seating, and there are usually students studying away here. They have a good selection of things to buy, and have recently added some sandwiches to their menu. I wasn't hungry at the time, but I will come back to try them out. The store is clean, quiet, and well-organized. I love picking up a book on a random topic and reading away. They have genres to appeal to just about any demographic. And it's great to read on topics that are different than what I study in my graduate program. Variety is awesome. read more

I rarely make it to the bookstore. There just isn't anything that really draws me to one anymore. I had a nice cashier, which would bring this to a 3.5 stars. -0.5 stars for the graffiti bathroom stall with urine on the toilet seats. It's like someone doesn't know that it goes in the bowl! This is not really B&N's problem, but it should be clean enough for patrons to use. The rest of the store was in good order, so a solid 3 stars for this book store giant. read more

Besides having an issue yesterday, the curbside service was great. I got there early because I wasn't sure exactly what time they closed and gave them a call. The gentleman asked what my order number is and what car I was in. He then asked me to pull up to the curb and brought out my books wearing disposable gloves. It was fast and convenient. I love taking my kids here! It's the closest bookstore for us in the area, and it's a plus that its located in a popular shopping center. Should we ever get tired of browsing around in Barnes and Noble, then there's a funky home decor store and pet store close by to pique our interests. I love shopping the bargain section here, and there are more then plenty selections to choose from! From cook books, to kids books, to DIY fitness/self help/sketch/learn a musical instrument books, you're pretty much covered! I like giving books as gifts, so the bargain section is perfect because I can load up on the books and not go overboard as far as spending is concerned. It's a win-win for both gifter and giftee! For the most part, if my kiddos want something from this store, I more than likely won't say no. If there's a book that they're interested in, if there's something new they want to read about, if they want to finish the last book in a series, who am I to say no to their education? This is the perfect place for parents and kids to shop together! My experience with Customer Service has always been great here! I'm usually asking about info on the Nook, and whoever is helping me has always been nice, informative, and helpful! The dude with the lobster shirt from Old Navy clearance, Mr. Eric... He's awesome! He made my most recent purchase there a great one! Single level store, restrooms are off to the left middle-ish of the store near the grade school education and drawing/artwork section, Starbucks Cafe off to the way left of the store as you enter, a great Children's section (with additional bargain selections) to the very back, and great bargain selections in the front. No parking problems, place is open late, and even though its busy most times you can find a quiet nook to read a few pages of your favorite book! read more

Long ago, there was a cool Borders store near my old place at Cerritos on Artesia Blvd near the 91 freeway. Ever since they moved and took in the new residence at Cerritos Towne Center with funky layout and reduction in store size, I always had been looking out a brand new bookstore. My search took an urgency when the Barnes & Nobles at the Cerritos Mall closed down. So it really left me with limited options other than Amazon's website which I tend to hate. As you can see, I was ecstatic to see this particular Barnes & Nobles when I popped in to the Long Beach's Towne Center. To see such a big store and wide spaces was enough, but to see mountains of different selections of all the categories with new and older selections of book sort of bring tears to my eyes (not literally, but figuratively speaking). The store also had their own media section where the DVDs and music CDs are island off to their own section of the room away from the books. They have ample amount of listening station all over the CDs area where you get to listen to the music of your particular music category. The Star*ucks inside the store provide an area where you can just and relax while taking some *cough*...samples of the reading of the books you are interested in purchasing. Although sometimes I wished people don't treat this like a Library and bring stacks of books and magazines and just lounge there to read all day. I couldn't do it as it just looked so wrong to take that kind of advantage. The place is huge with so much space to walk around. I probably would have spend all day here if I have more free time just by spending times with the books. You can really kill a lot of time here and just absorbs all the readings of their new arrivals. The only big fuss I have with them is that they need to speed the check out line to pay for the items because it can boggled down if there is a line forming. Be patient as it won't be in and out of this place if you need to make a purchase. read more

My problem with this B&N is the same problem I have with all B&Ns. Back when they were still around, I used to do all my book shopping at Borders for one reason: the ability to use computers throughout the store to find what I am shopping for. I hate that B&N only has 1 customer service center with 1 (maybe 2 if you're lucky) employees there to help you locate something. I am always standing around just waiting and waiting for someone to help me when I could've been in and out in half the time if I was given the ability to look up locations on my own. But at least the employees at this desk are very friendly. Maybe they're just trying to make up for me having to stand around waiting. I don't know. If that's the case, I appreciate it. I just wish I could do my own searching. I also don't like how the cost of items you see on their website is always less than the prices in store. They say it's because the store has overhead, but come on. If that's the case, then on the website list online AND store price. I hate going in expecting a price to be one thing only to find out it's a buck or two more in store. read more

This B&N is bigger than the one we have in Santa Clarita, and it appears their selections are more "meaty" as well. I'm sad our B&N seems to be withering away, losing more and more stock each time I go in. THIS B&N doesn't seem to have the same problem. Lots of sections, seemingly lots of selection. BUT, we went in here for a quick bite to tide us over, so I never really had a chance to wander around. It is clean and inviting though, with lots of comfy seating scattered amongst the rows of books, so it has that. As for the little cafe section... I like it! It is a large area, and the food/drink selections are varied. I like choice! The tables are mostly regularly cleaned off, but I have to say the table area is not completely 'tidy.' Once again rumors swirl that a significant number of Barnes and Noble bookstores will soon close their doors. Today I asked an employee if the Long Beach location is on the cutting block. As of today they're expected to remain open. Been a long time since I've been inside a bookstore, and I come from a legacy of library/bookstore visitors. Amazon and Kindle has been such a GREAT tool, thus I'm more apt to buy digital than hard copy. I know I'm just adding fuel to the demise of the brick and mortar bookstores, but when I want to read Pride and Prejudice at 2am because it's the 200 anniversary of the publishing of that book I don't have to wait, simply download and start to read. Instant gratification. Anyway it was wonderful browsing the shelves, especially the classics section . . . Tale of Two Cities, Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice. And the non-fiction section for Cissy Houston's new biography of her daughter, Whitney Houston on the one year anniversary of the singer's death. The magazine rack is massive. What fun to scan the titillating titles about the Kardashians, Milly Cyrus, Taylor Swift, etc etc . . . The gift section is always fun. Today Valentine's Day was the theme - cards, books, book markers, cups filled with candy and toys. Sweets for a sweetheart. Nice size CD/DVD section, though I wonder who buys hard copy music anymore. And the coffee bar looked like a great place to spend a Friday or Saturday evening when there's nothing on television. Barnes and Noble is a beautiful bookstore. Hope they'll be serving south/west Los Angeles/Long Beach for many years to come. read more

Located in the Long Beach Town Center, this Barnes and Noble has a Starbucks inside which I used for studying with fellow yelper Irene V. The peanut butter cookie with Reese's peanut butter cups was delicious especially since I had the barista warm it up. The restrooms were clean and you don't need a key to use them. The magazine section is good because there are benches and chairs which I love to use as I absorb the celebrity gossip from my favorite magazines--People and US Weekly. By the way, I purchased a book stand for under $10 which is an item that Borders does not carry in stock...good one Barnes and to you too Noble! read more
