The last of the giant, chain bookstores....sometimes I like to just come in and browse; the bargain books section is one to not pass up-so many different topics to read, even some arts and crafts kits. The Starbucks cafe is always a nice and quiet spot, the children's area is cute, overall the entire store has something for everyone. One last thing, get the membership-it is so worth it! read more

I went there today with my kids and the moment I walk in I ordered a Starbucks coffee and the bigger lady that works. There is always so rude almost like she is not happy working there. She made me feel very rushed and had a bad attitude I was patiently waiting for my drink and was observing the way she was taking orders, and I was in disbelief how she talks to customers I am surprised nobody has complained about her and wondering why she's still there. now moving to the book side of the store I asked for help and a older lady with gray hair tried helping me, but she seemed also very bothered and annoyed customer service. I was in on Wednesday and had asked one employee where to find certain books for kids and she was so rude about it. She said " The section is just over there" you can look for yourself. I had a great experience Christmas shopping here earlier this week. I arrived when they opened, and the employee opening the doors made a point of saying "Good morning" to everyone personally passing through, making eye contact...nice touch. Another employee was quick to help me find a manga series that was a gift and pulled out the volumes I wanted. Even though I have an e-reader I love browsing the aisles there, including the games and puzzles. I was looking for gifts, but of course I found an Asian cookbook for myself. If I could give no stars I would. Came in here with my family we're Hispanic. The people there are totally unwelcoming. The senior elder woman working the kid's section with short white hair made a comment to her co worker talking about my teen daughter like "I haven't seen her in a while" with the nastiest tone pretty much implying that she needed to be looked for. Mind you I'm only feet away, I can definitely hear her. Over all I've never felt discrimination in my 34 years of life up until that point and the saddest thing is neither had my children. If you're Hispanic or don't look white DO NOT come here. Take your money else where. Disappointed completely, you would think that as book store their staff would be more well educated and not as ignorant. Absolutely the worst customer service! We walked in with our masks on, and went directly to the kids section. We were not greeted what so ever. There were three women standing there chit chatting, and every single one of them looked at us with a nasty look, and didn't even say "welcome" or anything. My daughter is 2-years-old. I sat on the floor next to her while she was looking through the books and trying to decide which book she wanted. One of the ladies that gave us a nasty look when we walked in came up and said, "you can't sit down and read or anything in here!" With a horrible attitude. We put the books down. My daughter starts crying because she wanted a book. As we were leaving I said, "no honey. We aren't buying anything from here because you can't sit down to look at the books and decide which one you want". We were walking by the three women employees when I said this. Then all three started laughing. WOW!!! This type of behavior just lost our business FOREVER! I hope this book store goes out of business and every single one of these women lose their job! Completely ridiculous! You are in customer service! Be KIND! That's how you earn business! If we weren't approached so rudely there wouldn't have been an issue! We respect every store we go into during this pandemic. Not being greeted and then spoken to like trash is not going to earn our business or respect! Your books are also extremely over priced! I never had an issue with this place before because every time I come here, I buy a Starbucks drink, but today, I figured I'd wait a bit since I was still stuffed from lunch and figured I can just browse through some books at the table. Nope, within minutes, I was asked if I wanted to order anything and I said "no thanks". I saw it coming, the lady told me that I had to buy something from Starbucks in order to sit there. I moved my stack of books and went over to the bench by the magazines, which were overcrowded with teeny boppers talking. Finally, I just put back the 4 books I was going to buy and left. I went home and ordered those books through Amazon instead. Barnes and Noble just lost out on a $225 revenue from me. I'll come back here for story time for my daughter in the kids section in the back, but as far as coming back for my books, no more....sorry Barnes and Noble. Forcing your customers to buy $5 drink or snack from Starbucks just cost you hundreds...keep it up, you'll go out of business like Borders too. read more

I've never had a problem here. This is actually my new go to place when it comes to studying in a quiet environment. The ladies there were super nice. They helped me with every question I had. Which was a lot of them. They guided to me to find my specific needs. It felt like I was in a safe environment. I ended up getting the membership which is $25 for the year which is really good. First time I've ever had to do a return in 18 years of shopping at this location. Renee and Marlene could not have been more condescending and rude. I did not have a receipt for a Barnes and Noble exclusive item that was completely sealed with the Barnes & Noble sticker. This item was a gift and thought it wouldn't be a problem to get a store credit. Initially Marlene said she couldn't do anything without a receipt. I explained to her this was a gift and I did not get a receipt... She rudely said that she gives gifts receipts when she gives items as gifts. Her story kept changing as she first said it's not in their system and then she said it isn't sold in the store. The gift set was coming up in her system but she was not giving me an offer to do anything. I explained that this item was purchased from inside the store and not ordered online. She called the manager on duty (Renee), gave her her side of the explanation behind this and Renee said, I can give you 40 for it. OK so you randomly are saying $40 when you scanned the item and $79 popped up on the display... Then you changed it to $40 stating, "I haven't sold one of these in a year and it will just sit on my shelf." So basically it will still get to sit on the shelf and now probably sell for $79 when someone eventually buys this gift set. Anyways just so rude and disrespectful on their end, I'm ashamed of myself that I've been supporting Barnes and Nobles all of these years when I go in to do my first return and was treated like this. I preferred my drink expecting to wait a little bit, they were steadily busy. The barista asked if I still wanted whip cream on my latte as I stood watching her make it. I went to sit down and wait. Anyhow fifteen minutes later, and as I watched customer's after me being called I went to see where my coffee was. It turns out the barista who was making my latte left for her break, and left my $6 coffee unfinished on the counter. I will not ever come back here again. read more

I have never had a worse experience than I the one had today at the Temecula location in my entire time shopping with Barnes and Noble. I visited the bookstore after work as I have done many times. I do not drive and had a bag from the store I work at in the mall with me. This bookstore is across the street from the mall and countless patrons have bags and large purses as well. Upon entering the store an employee I believe by the name of Alice "greeted" me very rudely and kept looking at my bag. I told her I was fine and walked towards the books where another employee I believed named Tamara stepped in front of me asking if I needed help as well. I could tell the two were communicating via headset as she continuously looked at me and my bag and back towards the other employee. I assured her I was fine and continued to the book section I was looking for where I was followed by another employee. I blew it off, got a book to read in the cafe (as many do), and waited for my ride. I finished my drink, put the book at a nearby table, and went to sit outside. I decided last minute to purchase a journal and upon re entering the store Alice promptly gets on her headset and asks Tamara if she had checked the cameras like she had asked to her to. She asked via headset several times as I walked by . Tamara at that point comes back to where I'm standing and asks if I need anything AGAIN as she attempts to look inside my bag!!! Only after I was in line to purchase my items was I treated with respect by an employee. I have never felt so unwelcome and humiliated. I am a Barnes and noble member and buy books at least once a month. I am extremely disgusted by the behavior exhibited towards me today. This is unacceptable for a company that claims to be inclusive and welcoming to all. Needless to say I will be cancelling my membership immediately and reaching out to corporate in hopes of a resolution. No one should be treated this way!! read more

Hey this store isn't perfect but then no place or person really is! Why you ask do I make such a statement? Because I am so grateful that we still have a Barnes & Noble at this location! It is a very well kept store. I've always had a good experience here and when I have ordered a book they get it quite fast for me. Wish they had a nicer area in the cafe with more seating and a little less pushy about ordering from the cafe. I think a coffee is fine to get to sit in there. Aside from that I love this store. Yes they are higher than Amazon on some things but then you do pay shipping at Amazon and may save a few bucks but that is all. I want this store to stay so I will be a loyal supporter. Love the kids section too. It is great! The staff I think does a pretty good job as sometimes customers do not put books back where they belong. So I will cut them some slack. read more

Today I was here with my younger brother buying him a book he was interested in. I had a coupon for 15% off because we signed up to get coupons from the website. When we went to the register the older lady with grey short hair let an older customer cut us even though there was a small line waiting. Well, when we finally got to check out I asked her if I could use the coupon I received. It had a barcode and did not mention anywhere that it wasn't available to use in store. I mean, it had a BARCODE! Why couldn't I use it? I asked her if she could just try anyways and she refused. She said it won't work and that she can't scan it. I just don't understand why it would hurt to scan the barcode, if it worked then great, if not then what did she lose? Anyway, customer service was horrible. I am so mad. Super rude customer service! Lady in front wouldn't let me inside because of capacity (which I understand). I explained it was an emergency because I was starting to gave food poisoning and said I needed to use the restroom and would come back out before buying anything if there was still a wait. Cold and callous she said you can't. I pleaded that I wasn't going to make it anywhere else as it was bad seafood and I literally just needed water and the restroom and then would come back to wait in line (I planned on buying things). Flat out said go to the back of the line, forcing me to practically run to the gas station who could tell I was dehydrated. I'm sure it sounds dramatic but what's wrong with society when someone clearly needs some help and a break (it's not like I'm contagious it's food poisoning) and the woman just blankly stares as if she couldn't care less about any other human being. Came here to get a couple of books for my daughter and the place was pretty crowded. Luckily we were able to get the help we needed to find the books my daughter was looking for. What I don't like about coming to book stores is that some parents believe that it's a playground and allow their kids to run around and they are scared to discipline their kids !!!! Sigh. I love Barnes & Nobles. They are a bit pricy, but what's not to love. It's a nerds paradise and I fit right in. My kids love coming here and they love playing with the train table. We always leave with a ton of books and snacks from the Starbucks and spending wayyyy too much money. Just wish they had more staff on hand to actually help you and to guide you through the millions of books. But hey, it's a bookstore. I've got time to kill. We're regulars so we always going to go back no matter what. They also do story time on Friday nights and for the younger kids it's Saturday's before noon. Always liked this place, until today. Had some time to kill so planned to meet some friends at Barnes and Nobel and stock up on magazine and a few books for an upcoming trip. Grabbed a magazine and set at on of the tables in the "cafe", less than 2 minutes passes before I was asked by a man with a head set if he could get a drink started for me. I told him not yet, that I was waiting for sone friends and he told me " we really like to reserve these seats for cafe guest.". In other words, you gotta pay to sit here. I got up, called my friends and told them to meet me for lunch instead, put back my 6 books and stack of magazines (about $425) and left. Stack of books, leaned against the wall, backpack full of snacks and a water bottle. I don't play. So when I heard this gibberish fly out of some neanderthal's foaming mouth, I had to sneak a peek. I made one of those "I'm just twisting around to stretch my back and oops I made eye contact" kind of moves. You know the kind. I was....not surprised. In the 1.3 seconds I had to gauge the situation I sterilized, criticized,categorized, and capsized his very existence. Shirt- Enormous blue brand name on a pink tank top. Shorts-knee length, navy blue and pink plaid. Hat- Straight bill, turned slightly upwards; large pink logo emblazoned on the front. Fat "Motocross" brand sunglasses sat on his hairless, pink face, and rubbery, black thong sandals adorned his pasty feet. The Starbucks cup in hand and vape pen on the table really finished off the checklist. He was a walking advertisement for the reasons not to live here. I settled back into my book. "How to Stop Judging Everyone and Get on With Your Life". I was making progress. As the argument behind me continued, I read on. "Though it may be hard to accept people who have different viewpoints, understand that everyone has the right to do what it takes to make them happy." Aaah so true. My blood pressure returned to normal. Everything was fine. And then he said it. "The only good thing about the series was that she killed off Dumbledore before he could molest Harry" I tore my book in half. Sideways. Everyone has the right to do what it takes to make them happy. Except this guy. He really sh*t in my sundae with that one. I stood up, drawing my wand from it's sheath against my chest (of course I'm a wizard) and hit that mofo square in the face with a Confundus charm. It had no effect. He was already confused beyond belief. He let out a laugh like the last breath of a dream, and reached for his vape pen. Wait..that vape pen is...10.4 inches...firm yet-- Too late. He threw his mocha frappuccino at me, and before I could move out of the way, I heard him shout "Expulso!" There was caffeinated sugar everywhere. Guests in the cafe scattered like water droplets in a hot pan. People screaming, children crying, the managers meekly trying to shoo us from the place. Did someone pull the fire alarm, or was God itself crying at the battle that was about to ensue? Either way, It was raining. And we danced. Through every aisle in that place. Flashes of light popped, books grew and shrunk and exploded. The smell of my singed hair filled the place. Racks toppled over one another and flew through the air as we fought the fight of all fights that can be fought. With the flick of my wand, I tore ten thousand pages from their covers, turned them into swords, and sent them spinning towards my hungry opponent. He retaliated by turning all the water droplets in the air into icicles, hurling them through my paper swords and right for me. Time for the big boys to play. "Incendio!" I shouted. A fiery whip released itself from the tip of my wand, scorching through the tiny icicles. He tried to apparate, but I lasso'd his ankle, and was reeling him in, slowly but surely. Not to order a book - I could have done that from the chair I now occupy. Furthermore, if you want to compete with Amazon you'll have to differentiate yourself by being an ACTUAL book store, filled with books. A place where people can come, touch, skim, and purchase A BOOK. Not a place where you _must_ purchase a $5.00 Starbucks to gain the right to sit and read a book you perhaps just purchased, not a place from whence you remove all electrical outlets to run off WiFi users, not a place with seating for FOUR whole people outside of the coffee shop. Disappointed to say that I have found a Barnes and Noble bookstore that I just cannot stand. Well, I guess I could stand, because I was asked *not* to sit down on the floor to read a couple chapters of a book (after having already made a purchase); I was told to use the benches at the front of the store, that were already taken by the magazine-fanatics. This, coupled with a previous experience that I had in the cafe (it is a safety violation to bring your own food into the cafe, by the way! Learn something new every day), helped me to make the decision that I will likely not be going here anymore. It's not so much the guidelines, it's the staff's approach in handling things. Also, my custom drink that the girls in the cafe created for me (because I don't like the taste of coffee), tasted like *$!%! Lastly, if you need help from an associate at the "Information Center" in the middle of the store, you may be looking at a long wait; the associate was wandering around while a couple customers (including myself) were standing for assistance. I've never felt so restricted at any other Barnes and Noble. I'll probably be making the longer drive to the Riverside B & N (my favorite!) before coming here again. read more

Living in the Bay Area I became accustomed to having Borders Bookstores all around me, enough to throw up in the air even (does her Snagglepuss impersonation). Apparently the closest Borders location is in Rancho Cucamonga. Cuca what? I'm left with B&N, which should change it's name to BS. I had to come here because my school's bookstore failed to have some of the course materials (yeah you figure that one out). The girl at the counter who assisted me asked me if I wanted to spend $ 25 on a bullshit ass membership to save $ 2 on the book I was purchasing. Brick Top: "In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary... come again?" Very basic setup, but their magazine selection is pretty whack. 15 guitar magazines and not one title pertaining to keyboards or strings. I found their Christian fiction section and the teenagers with nothing better to do, laughing at a Kama-Pooptra book to be HI-larious. Also being approached by the Nook salespeople creeps me out. I mean who needs a Nook, when you have an iPad. The "Starbucks" at this location does serve Cheesecake Factory desserts and that's the only upside. A woman who was probably in her 40's was just rude. And not just to the customers, but to her coworkers as well. Maybe if she had a piece of cake she might lighten up a bit. Sheesh! I will go back to ordering my books online, spanks. read more

This review is for this particular location in Temecula: Came here last night with my daughter to pick up a book that I saw on Barnes and Noble's website. Was disappointed to see that the same book at the store was $10 MORE than the website. Keep in mind I would have gotten FREE shipping since the book was over $25 and even if the book didn't qualify for free shipping it only costs $3.99 to ship so I still would have saved by ordering online. I went to an employee who I was told was the manager, a female with glasses and red hair, and asked her if Barnes and Noble matched their online pricing. This is how the conversation with the manager went: Me: Hi do you guys match your website pricing? Manager: No, nobody does that, this is a retail store so you pay retail prices, online prices are wholesale prices so it's going to be cheaper. Me: A lot of retailers match their own online pricing Manager: No, nobody does that. Me: Walmart, Target, Best Buy... Manager: Well thats because they have overstock and thats what you're paying for. At that point I just walked away because the manager was clearly not going to give up her position and I wasn't going to pay $10 extra for attitude and long lines at the register. read more

This store is fun for gift buying and has some great books (particularly coffee table and cook books) on sale. I last visited the day after Christmas and although the line was very long, they had all the registers covered and were moving the line quickly. Much appreciated! I think quite a few of the reviews I've read on this bookstore are unreasonable. It's no wonder bookstores are going out of business when so many people think it's okay (or even vengeful) to buy a small drink and plop down at a table all day using the free internet connection. And others confuse a library with a bookstore, sitting for hours bending back the covers and reading books that are supposed to be for purchase, then complain that the couches are removed. (It's also sad that the mooches have ruined it for the people who want to sit and peruse for the purpose of purchasing). Do they think these people who are trying to run a business and make a living should provide them a free book, magazine, chair, and clean environment? Do they understand the expense of providing those things? I have an idea, buy the book and then sit and read it, then when staff approaches you, you can smile and say, "Oh, I bought it," holding out the receipt. Why are people becoming so entitled these days? I hope not to see the day that all of the bookstores have disappeared. BTW, my parents said this is one of the last remaining bookstores in the area. Grab a coffee or tea at the Starbucks inside and then browse around the book store. They have a great children's section here. So many great books and series for all ages of kids. It is well organized and laid out. My daughter loves it here. I went specifically to find one book. It did take me a few minutes longer than normal as there are so many and it is a bit crowded with so many choices of books. Honestly that is the only reason I am giving it 4 stars versus 5.
