Dude what happened ? I secretly used to love this restaurant now the best thing and only thing I'll buy from here is there Honey Mustard. Maybe they extended their menu to much in order to be all things to all people but in trying to do that they lost something. I once stayed in the hospital around the corner for a week or so and I only wanted to eat here. If that same thing happened today I'd rather eat hospital food. read more

I have eaten at Barnes since I was a little girl. It has always been one of my favorite restaurants. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had here. I will most likely not go back. I paid $78 for 4 meals and threw all of them in the trash. I did not include photos of my daughters burger that was so greasy her bread was soggy. I ordered the 30 piece shrinp for my son if was luke warm. My dinner is what you see simply disgusting and inedible. Truly disappointed. Haven't patronized Barnes in almost a year after a To Go employee finessed me out of $10 TWICE.... I let her have it after the 2nd time bc she obviously needed it more than I did to be that persistent. My 20 year love for their fried chicken salad encouraged me to go back once more, but when, yet again, I didn't receive what I paid for and subsequently emailed the manager yet received zero response, I cut my losses. I'm still slightly bitter about the cumulative poor treatment, but I rolled the dice and took my youngest to dine in last week. The server, Tarsha, was WONDERFUL!!! She was fast, efficient and very nice despite being the only server on that side of the restaurant. So the lesson to be had here is, on average People suck, but, if the food is good enough, give it another try and you may be pleasantly surprised. Barnes needs to give Tarsha a raise though since she's literally the only employee I've engaged with there that cares about the customer's experience read more

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this dining experience! We went based on a recommendation on a stranger at Candler hospital. I need to find va thank him. We were seated right away and ordered the broccoli cheese bites. They were like fried broccoli cheddar soup. So yummy! One of my friends ordered the ribs and loved them. Another ordered the fried pork chops and said it was very good. I had the shrimp, scallops, mac and cheese, fish and baked beans. Wow, huge portions! The scallops were so good! Perfectly cooked. The mac and cheese was so delicious. I wish I had enough room to try everything but I just couldn't. Service was attentive and fast. The decor was dated but in a kitschy sort of way. Definitely a place I would come back to. If you do go, bring your appetite! Its down home southern cooking at its best! Didn't give this 5 stars because they don't have alcohol. Stopped by on a Sunday; didn't seem too busy in the restaurant. Waitress was kind and polite. However, my friend and I went without refills the whole meal and finally after we both had finished our plates is when she came back around to check on us. Food was decent, but for the quality I feel it was overpriced. Mac N cheese was fairly dry, and my plate was brought out with the wrong sides anyway. However, the red rice I was brought by mistake was pretty good. Grouper fish fingers were ok, the batter didn't have much flavor. Hush puppies were good too. I wish I could recommend everywhere I go as a testament to my good restaurant-picking skills, but unfortunately I can't recommend Barnes restaurant on Waters Avenue. I rated a 2 for the politeness of the waitress but service wasn't great. Food wasn't great, but it wasn't bad. read more

Ordered from here for lunch...a group of nurses. I found hair in my food. We called back to get a credit and the MANAGER told me to bring the food back to the restaurant?? I'm sorry..after I've worked a whole 12 hour shift on an empty stomach bc I wasnt able to eat my food, you want me to bring the food back to the restaurant (that i tossed out bc there was hair in it) to prove there is a hair?? They have a mobile kitchen which is THE BEST. Your guests will enjoy super hot, fresh, delicious food throughout the whole event. Unlike a food truck where your crowd has to wait in line, Barnes Catering will set up the buffet for you and run the food ... so no one has to wait! I have also used Barnes Catering for 300+ people Oyster Roast and they did an outstanding job. They are always EARLY for the event ... they set up everything perfectly. They are well staffed with professional employees who have a great attitude. I cannot say enough good things about Barnes Catering. We were in Savannah for a funeral and the family decided to reserve the banquet room for the repass instead of at someone's home. We were seated immediately. The staff came in and started taking drink orders. Our waitress came in and started taking our orders and the food started coming out timely. I had a combo with fried shrimp, fried oyster, fried scallops and a crab cake. I didn't like the crab cake and they had no issues giving me more oysters to replace the crab cake. I had Mac n cheese & slaw as my sides and both were excellent. I ordered a kids chicken tender meal with Mac n cheese for my 18 month old and they were both a hit because she ate until she couldn't hold another bite. Our entire family was very satisfied with the food and service. I highly recommended this restaurant and will definitely be back the next time I'm in Savannah. read more

i came today with three of my friends. the waitress rushed us while taking our order and walked away before we even finished ordering and it took an hour for our food to come When there was four tables sitting down eating already. Our food came out cold and very greasy she gave me something I didn't even ask for a $17 burger it was raw on the inside. I will never be back to this restaurant the food and service sucks. My employer bought 100 hams last Christmas for the entire staff. I have to say, best ham in my 55 years on earth. Now I've tried all the high dollar hams that I will not mention in this review. This place has a huge menu! You can have something called a Redneck Reuben which is beef brisket, coleslaw and BBQ sauce on a hoagie bun. That may be my meal the next visit. Tonight I had a delicious hamburger steak. It was juicy and tasty which is not always the case. The meal came with bread, a side and a salad. Our server was so good. Funny and attentive without being too visible. The only issues I had with The restaurant was it was so cold I almost couldn't make it through my meal. Now I am a big boy and usually on the warm side. Today is his birthday and since he had to work late we decided I would pick up party portions of chopped pork, collard greens and Brunswick stew. I also picked up a chicken finger dinner for my daughter since she doesn't eat pork. I ordered over the phone and asked the lady to repeat the order back to me. I arrived and picked up my order which cost me a few pennies short of $70. I drove home placed it in the microwave to keep til my husband got home and made rice to go with our dinner. Once the rice was ready I opened up the containers to prepare our plates. Upon opening the "Brunswick Stew" I found baked beans. Gross. I tried to eat a few bites but since I was looking forward to Brunswick stew and I don't like baked beans it just didn't go well and I gave my plate to the dog. I tried to call and could not get an answer at Barnes at 7 pm. But rest assured, I will be going by Barnes tomorrow with my receipt to pick up my quart of Brunswick stew. Of course tonight's dinner is completely ruined because the employees are not diligent. My receipt clearly says Brunswick Stew. Thank you again for completely ruining the birthday dinner. I was visiting the hospital and Googled the nearest place for BBQ and Barnes was the closest, it was lunch rush on Sunday and it was packed the staff was friendly and the food didn't take long. However I will have to say I did not enjoy the Pulled pork or the fries, the sauce used for the BBQ was good but the meat and fries were flavorless, I would go back but not for the Pork, mostly everyone in the carry out line ordered fish so I suppose I should try the fish or seafood if I get the chance to go back read more

This place is great! I was skeptical at first bc they serve a lot of different things. I ended up getting the 1/4 rotisserie chicken w/ BAKED Mac & cheese and green beans. When we arrived the table was sticky. At first we thought it was just one of those weird laminate table top that always feels sticky but after a quick wipe down with a baby wipe, it wasn't sticky anymore.. so I guess it just wasn't cleaned good in the first place. The decor was odd. Just random signs in a plain font with Savannah Landmarks on them spread throughout the restaurant "Cotton Exchange", "Factorwalk", etc. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and my husband ordered a Brisket Philly. The pulled pork was huge hunks of pork, not pulled apart very well. Not awful, but definitely not in the running to be on my list of Top 20 pulled pork I've eaten (ok, that list really doesn't exist but if it did, this wouldn't be on it.). Three stars for the wait staff. We went to Barnes with a rather large group (it was for a rehearsal dinner) and the wait staff did an amazing job of keeping up with our party. My drink glass was always full and I think they got all of the orders right. Unfortunately, the staff was about the only good thing about my dining experience at Barnes. While I enjoyed the side dishes I had - the mac & cheese and baked beans - but my main dish was less than desirable. The pulled pork was dry and the sauce on top was more like condensed tomato soup than BBQ sauce. The pork was dry and just wasn't that great. The toast that they served with it looked just like buttered toast that I could make in my kitchen. It was not Texas toast in my opinion. When I think of Texas toast it is thick with a buttery garlic flavoring. The toast here was like wimpy white slices with a little butter. Meh. If I'm ever in Savannah again I think I will pass on Barnes but if I am forced to go I will try something else - maybe a salad or something. read more

I use Barnes catering for our all employee and customer meetings of 100+ people. They really do make some amazing food and no one is ever left hungry. They have a wide range of options and there is something for everyone... well, maybe not the super healthy folks other than the salad. One thing that is hard from the catering side is they lose connection on email and phone alot at their office. But in general, they are good at contacting back and organizing an event. I trust them to always be on time and to have more than enough food. I haven't eaten in house so I can only speak for the catering portion! Great food and service! read more

Did not eat in the restaurant but at a catered dinner after a funeral. So sorry to say that it was probably an embarrassment to the family...... First of all the Barnes catering van ARRIVED after the funeral was over and the guests were already in the church fellowship hall waiting for the food.... So starting out late is one thing, but when comments in the serving line are "what do you think it is" in reference to the two meat choices, probably that's not a good thing. Basically we think that one meat was boiled chicken breast, with virtually no seasoning, and the other probably some type of dried out pork steak, maybe???? The only reason I am not giving a one star review is that the red rice was decent, as were the green beans. Really a disappointment for an old time Savannah restaurant. I came on Tuesday, which is the day Barnes has meat loaf. Prior to our visit I called three times to make sure there was meat loaf (before it was advertised but there was none available) but there was no answer. We went anyway and before seating asked the hostess if there was any meat loaf. Upon hearing the answer that there was none, we left. The monthly special for Tuesday this month clearly states - meat loaf. The billboard outside in front of the restaurant states the special is meat loaf. There is NO meat loaf. Shame on you for false advertisement. We will NEVER eat at Barnes again! read more

I was not happy with the attitudes of the staff, I felt like I was interrupting the hostess at the front desk and problematic to be seated. The server was uneducated on the menu items and even provided a referral to B & D burgers "they have the best burgers." When visiting the restroom, UUGGGHHHHH, it was filthy overflowing trash can, unsanitary gel beads in the sink and a entire toilet paper roll in the toilet (un-flushed). I appeared the facilities had not been cleaned in hours. When ordering our meals the waitress told us we could not switch the cheese on my husband's sandwich. I am appalled with the service and the food was not something I would order again. This was my first experience with Barnes Restaurant and the last. I will not recommend this place and will reject any offers to eat at this establishment. read more

I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was ok. My daughter who is a vegetarian ate a salad, Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries. She said the best thing she ate were the fries. My husband and son had the chopped pork, fries and cole slaw. They both weren't impressed. I guess we should have eaten the chicken since that what we found out they were famous for! The food didn't seem fresh and the seafood is frozen then cooked. Not really what I expected. The bathroom must smell awful because there was bath beads in the sinks. This restaurant used to be great back its heyday. Now, it's mediocre at best. The chicken is no longer tender, there's way too much crust vs the thin flaky crust of old. A good thing to note is that they fry all of their fried foods together so this restaurant is not friendly for those with food allergies. I repeat, if you're allergic to shellfish, I would take utmost precaution eating here. I wouldn't recommend. read more
