I recently saw Dr. Michael Scanameo and I was so completely impressed with the entire experience. I was having an issue with my right eye and called to make an appointment. I was a new patient. The woman who answered and scheduled the appointment for me listened patiently while I explained my problem and was able to get me in the next day. I showed up from my appointment 15 The front office staff were smiling, kind and courteous. The office is clean, warm and inviting. Not at all sterile. The assistant that took me back and did the initial exam before I was seen by the doctor was fantastic. Dr. Michael was extremely professional, answered all of my questions and took his time visiting with me. I didn't feel rushed or feel like a number. I also think it's worth mentioning that Desiree is a credit to the office. She is polite, professional and friendly. I would absolutely recommend desert Vista eye specialists to anyone. read more

when my ophthalmologist retired i had the good fortune of contacting the office of Desert vista eye specialists and had good fortune of meeting Dr,Lance Stutz who is very pleasant and extremely well trained in providing advanced eye care, I had to have two cataracts removed and replaced with lenses which normally requires pre and post operative eye drops for upto 2 weeks, Whereas he had performed Dropless cataract surgery which does not require any eye drops either before or after surgery. I came in to have a consult for an eye mass. I had several questions on non surgical treatment. I first came in and was not told the staff were behind. I understand it can happen, and certain appointments are seen before others but I waited an hour and twenty minutes with no update. The tech was nice and listened to me and repeated my questions and concerns back. I met with Dr. Scanameo and he was very abrasive and did not give me a moment to talk or ask any questions. He just told me I should've been wearing UV sunglasses living here and with my condition. No eye doctor ever told me about how to care for the eye masses and hence why I wanted a specialist. He was very direct but felt patronizing when I tried asking more questions. He said the surgery is horrible and not the best and the risks aren't worth it. I appreciate that knowledge but when I wanted to talk more of other options and questions on eye meds, he said I need to be more accountable for my eyes. The front was not super knowledgeable as when I booked the appointment I asked if they took care credit. On the phone they said they did but when I checked in one receptionist didn't even know what I was referring too. Then when I presented my information the staff seemed very frustrated as then they wouldn't run the care credit without an expiration date on it, which care credit has non expiring cards. I told them I use it at my work and told them how to run it other ways and they still were frustrated with me. I called care credit and they too explained they don't need that and the care credit rep gave me a random date and then it worked. But again the office didn't need the information they were questioning me on to run the care credit for the $195 consult. I also advise to discuss the medications they are recommending so you can check the costs with and without insurance. And ask for some options as the prescription they prescribed for me is a $500 steroid drop. read more

I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but I want to warn others about coming to this office. This was my first time in, I had a 2:40pm appointment and waited almost 1.5 hours with no update to be brought back to see Dr. Scanameo. He looked at my eyes and confirmed the lesion I was getting checked out, but he stated they didn't have the equipment there to really look at the spot. Dr. Scanameo was kind but didn't seem to care enough about me to even give me a referral to an office that does have the equipment needed. He wasn't making much sense and pretty much told me to call around and find an optometry school. I waited 1.5 hours for a 10 minute appointment and they still charged me $80 for the exam. I came here to have Dr. Khan do emergency laser surgery after an eye exam/checkup for pink eye symptoms by my optometrist, Dr. Lewis, turned up showing my right eye had 60% angular blockage due to glaucoma! Dr. Khan's assistant Yessica took very good care of me, as did his staff at his regular office in Gilbert. I was prepped & ready to go when Dr. Khan arrived and the procedure didn't take more than 30 minutes tops, if that. On Monday, I had a visit with a ophthalmologist, and I don't know how to pronounce his last name, but his last name starts with a S. I don't know how to describe his attitude, but it was terrible. I know I have problems with my eyes, but I couldn't get a straight answer from him other than he said that if I didn't like my other glasses then I wouldn't like his prescription. It was a waste of time because the employee did all the vision testing. He walked in & said what can I do? He told me I had laser & I told him the 2 surgeries but a 3rd on my right eye. None of these were laser & when asked why he would say that he said because i see it. He did not offer to do anything & I asked if I was done & he said yes. WOW. Not willing to offer anything. Life has a funny way of creeping up on you, all I know is that one morning when I woke up and went to wash my face, I looked up and there was some old guy looking back at me. The first thing that crossed my mind was "thank god I'm wearing pants". The thing about getting older is that some things start happening subtly over time, aches and pains that you never had before, slowly losing range of motion, slower reflexes, blurred vision, etc.. For me, it was a cataract in my left eye. My primary care physician referred me to Dr. Kahn here at Desert Vista Eye Specialists. I have to give Doc Kahn and his staff a standing ovation for giving me untrammeled vision with the multifocal lens. I never realized how much I was missing until they gave me back what aging took away. I highly recommend Desert Vista Eye Specialists, this was my first procedure and I was made to feel comfortable from the moment I walked in and sat down, and just as important, after meeting Doc Kahn, I had confidence that I was in good hands for pre-op and post-op follow through. Now for the pros and cons. Pro: The multifocal lens is fantastic. I don't need my glasses any more. Pro: The actual procedure was done at the Scottsdale Eye Surgery Center. Great facility with another outstanding staff. Pro: The procedure took less than a half hour. Con: The multifocal lens is an option and was not covered by my insurance company because it's classified as cosmetic. Go figure...god only knows we wouldn't want people to have 20/20 vision. It's worth the investment in my opinion. Con: The multifocal lens works so well that now I can see how many grey hairs I have, and I recognize the old guy I see in the morning (I'm still grateful I'm wearing pants). If you need work done with your vision, this would be the facility and staff to help you out. read more

I made an appointment for an eye examine because I wasn't seeing as well as I should be. So I asked price and it seemed reasonable for ophthalmologist. When I got there they gave me a paper to sign for a refraction which no one explained I thought I was getting a real eye examine. Well no dilation of eyes no glaucoma test so I asked the doctor well aren't you checking for glaucoma or dilating my eyes? Oh no that is a different test $150.00 more I don't have insurance, so I paid $60.00 to look into a machine for eye test and never got a full test I could have went anywhere for that I purposely when there thinking I was getting a full examine. I was recommended to Dr. Eason by my opthamologist. I found them very professional. Easy to get an appointment. I had cataract surgery done on both eyes (separate times for each eye) and have been very pleased! It was done very quickly and I was seeing great after the patch came off the next morning. I won't lie, I was apprehensive about the surgery before I had it done, but it was so totally painless! No pain at all and the surgery was very easy to me and all done so fast! I had monovision with my contact before and now have a lens in my reading eye and don't have to wear glasses or contacts any more. I love waking up and being able to see! Everything is so clear now. I had some idea of how poorly I was seeing as we left for our summer vacation. I noticed, as I was pulling our 30' trailer, I couldn't see the signs on the freeway until we were almost upon them, not good! When we got home, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Kahn to have cataracts removed from both eyes. Dr. Kahn and his staff were highly professional and put the anxiety I felt over operating on my eyes to rest. The procedure was much easier than I thought and my eyesight is now fantastic. I would highly recommend both this surgeon, his practice, and the out-patient facility in Scottsdale. It was all excellent. I should have had it done years ago. Worst customer service ever!! I was checked in at the front office. My husband was not allowed in due to COVID. He left and waited in the car for me in 115 degree weather, even though there was no one else in the waiting room. I was put in a little room where I was asked a few questions by the technician. She said the doctor would be with me in a few minutes. I waited and waited and waited. The little room was sweltering. No one came in to explain why the doctor was late or even acknowledged I was there. After an hour I had enough and a walked out the door. The office staff didn't even notice I left. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Your time is not important and the patient is left for hours with no explantation. I was not impressed to say the least. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I felt compelled to write about my complete dissatisfaction with Desert Vista Eye Specialist. I went there to have TWO chalazions removed from my right eye. The annoyance of a chlazion is borderline continued madness and I specifically requested that BOTH of these be removed when I was in for the surgery. However, only one of them was removed, which is not what I requested. I was told 2 days later that the other one was merely lanced with instructions of applying heat to shrink it. I followed these instructions and it did not worked. When there, the doctor didn't even want to do the procedure as they made me wait nearly 2 hours as they were behind and everyone had left for lunch. How incredibly lazy and un-professional! I insisted about the procedure being done and the doctor literally "rolled his eyes" and said "Alright then" in an incredibly sarcastic way. What an awful setting and feeling when your about to have eye surgery by a so called professional. I also specifically mentioned that this was the ONLY opportunity that I would have to have this procedure done as I am limited to only three total doctor visits per year and that this visit would reach that limit. And this guy doesn't want to perform the surgery I'm there for it because he's late for his lunch, and that's not an exaggeration as I overheard them discussing that fact. During the procedure he extracts one chlazion and then begins on the other and I'm obviously showing discomfort as the Novocain is insufficient in this location. The nurse alarmingly says, "Dr should you administer another injection," in which he returns, "No, I'm done here." So instead of stopping what he's doing, giving me another injection, and finishing the job correctly and removing the 2nd chlazion, he just stops and leaves the other mass in my eye lid, takes his gloves off, and goes to lunch. Now I'm under the impression that both masses in my eye are extractred, only to my horrer to find out three days later after the swelling subsides that there's still one in there. I called to ask why and was told just to put a hot compress on it. Now I'm left in the exact same predicament of this mass in my eyelid, that I was in when visiting this office, and that was over two months ago. Moreover, I have no further insurance to have this issue corrected properly by someone else who is more competent and not so hungry. I found the entire situation very disconcerting and very agitated. My eyes are so important to me! I had RK over 20 yrs ago and my vision has been getting worse and worse. After visiting this office, I have wonderful glasses. I can see so well now. I also learned a lot about my floaters. The receptionists are so friendly. I was checked in right away. I had to wait a bit for the Dr but I didn't mind. His nurses were knowledgeable and made me feel comfortable. Dr Kahn is charming and reassuring. My Mom had cataract surgery by Dr Eason. Her vision is fantastic. If I could give 1 star then I would. Dr. Kahn has terrible manners. I was a new patient that was referred to figure out why I wasnt passed the visual field test in my left eye. So dr. Kahn dialated my eye to look at it and then realized he should of made me do the visual eye field test first. So he made me come back a second time. Come to find out because he made a mistake I have to pay additional money for it...to come back on the same problem. Then he leaves me a message that I need an MRI since my results are inconclusive. I call him back to understand and had to leave a message. Then he calls me back and acts like he never left me a message and what was I calling about but sends me to an MRI anyways. I called my own eye doc to ask if this guy is even reputable because he keeps making mistakes and his manners in person are terrible. Plus he makes mistakes that I have to pay for? Turns out the MRI brought back nothing and all he said was come back in 6 months to see if it went away. Why? So you can charge me more money to tell me nothing? My left eye still has blind spots that no one knows what is going on or has the time to explain it. But yet I paid hundreds of dollars for nothing. I'll never go back. read more

In my mid 60's now, I've worn corrective lenses for 60 years, glasses or contacts. 3 years ago already suspect sight quality was beginning to falter due cataract development. I could not have asked for nor gotten better service than was provided by Dr. Kahn and his staff both at the exam office and the surgery center. In two days, 3 weeks apart my own fogged lenses were replaced with multifocal lenses to amazing results. corrective lenses are no longer necessary for near or far distances, 20/20 vision was achieved in both eyes and i can view and read the smallest of fine print without other external lenses. The procedures were quick and only minor discomfort was realized for a short 6 hour post procedure period. Follow up calls that night by Dr, Kahn were received but, in my case not necessary, and other follow up calls were received over the following days to assure the success I was already realizing. There is a difference treating cataracts versus a vision-robbing disease like glaucoma. There are a variety of reviews praising this office for various conditions but did not see mention of glaucoma or macular degeneration. If you are in danger of losing your eyesight, please do not wait, see another ophthalmologist and get a second opinion about treatment. No one can give you back the sight you are losing. Dr. Kahn has been my opthalmologist since 2009. He completed cataract surgery with multi- focal lenses in both of my eyes. Since that time I have had regular check ups and I am still seeing well.
